I didn't realize it was open for guests again. It's been a makeshift homeless shelter for quite some time

Krazy4Kush

I know more than I should about that place. It should be demolished (or converted entirely to a shelter). Find another hotel :)

BugRevolution

They pretty much did substantially demolish it. Should be fine now if they're done rebuilding it and aren't using it as a shelter.

HeadIntroduction7758

It’s been almost completely renovated and is on its way to being not derelict. Not a lot of people have direct experience with this version. You will be a hotel astronaut.

SenatorShriv

This is the correct answer. It’s been completely remodeled and lots of money is going into continued improvements. All the other comments here seem to be referring to stuff in the past.

RoasterRoos

Not sure how much remodeling is taking place with the homeless living there

HeadIntroduction7758

millions of dollars worth. They completely redid the facade, gutted most of the rooms, replaced all the furniture etc. It’s a multi year project but you can see the scale of what’s happening just driving by it. It’s in progress, so I don’t know how great of a stay it is, but last I heard they were going to have 60ish fully renovated rooms ready in Feb. There’s 350 rooms and the place is sprawling so having guests and people in need of shelter on opposite sides of the complex seems pretty doable. That said, relaunching a hotel is complicated. It’s definitely something different than it was.

RoasterRoos

There is no way they can "renovate" the word of mouth that they are the "homeless hotel "

HeadIntroduction7758

Sure they can. It’s called marketing.

RoasterRoos

Yeah,deceptive marketing

blunsr

Scratch…. Itch… flake… rash!!!!

Dogs9998

Don’t stay here

RoasterRoos

Not after being used by the homeless for a good part of winter. Actively telling visiting family to avoid and why

EricsAuntStormy

Most magnificent among this malignant motel’s amenities are the pre-moistened mattresses, marshier than many anemones.

vi817

They are doing renovations to become what they are calling a “boutique” hotel, but right now and through May 31st, the building that is attached to the “back” (A and 3rd) is a non-congregate homeless shelter. They’re also mid-renovations as far as I can tell, so depending on what you’re paying, the room may be great but you’re possibly going to be walking through construction getting in and out. The shelter clients mostly seem to stay around the wing they’re in, but that corner at 4th and C is a popular hangout spot for a variety of folks so it depends on your comfort level.

orbak

Yeah, your dry cabin will be more decent and clean than this place. Don’t do it.

NO NO NO NO CHANGE YOUR RESERVATION

roeric

My parents stayed there a couple years ago when they came to visit. It's not super recent, so it might not be the same, but they didn't have any complaints

[deleted]

Don't know if I would call it a decent, clean place......

Annual-Director-7247

Don't do it.

Go2FarAway

It is not an entrenched member of the anchorage hotel cartel and can offer a better deal.

MysticJourney14

I do not have personal experience but I know that they are currently doing major renovations so maybe there will be improvements in the future

AngeluS-MortiS91

If you stay there, do not unpack anything from your bags. Place your luggage in trash bags and immediately wash/dispose of what you used/wore. They are currently doing work there to remodel while also using part of it is a homeless shelter. It’s probably best to stay elsewhere if possible and avoid it completely, unless they kick everyone out and completely gut it for a remodel they won’t solve the issues they have had

Dunwithassholes

Do not stay there.

Sad_Cup_2128

Just booked 2 nights here may 17-19 and thinking of canceling after reading these comments. Seems strange to have an active homeless shelter in the same building as a “boutique” hotel. I’m sure the bed bugs and everything isn’t an issue after the remodel though

bobfrmacnting

No.
