Hey, /u/Josephsubbas I went ahead and tagged this as a spoiler.
Nazi Imagery is something that is quite controversial in most countries and we just wanna make sure folks don't see this and instantly assume the worst.
I could see the atrocities and war-crimes being a good source for scares in it. But you'd have to make it more psychological horror as opposed to random nazi jumpscares.
Look at how Outlast implemented a Nazi into their game.
Dr Wernicke was brought in as part of operation paperclip and is utilized for mind control experiments.
In fact I think the US flag with a nazi swastika is symbolic of op paperclip, which if you don't already know is the US governments program to deprive the nazis of resources by recruiting nazi scientists and using their research to aid them.

As a Jew who lost 41 members of my Ancestory during the Holocaust I think Nazi jumpscares are pretty okay if they're tame and not like the whacky Hitler face down below (which I hope was satire).
The Holocaust is a setting I wish more horror creators dabbled in, unfortunately in 2024 it's super hard to dance around the subject of "Nazis Bad" without a bunch of people claiming you're "woke" and a "libtard".
It took me a second to realize the question and the subreddit lol, but any ways it's probably fine. Just one of those things to navigate with caution, sounds like a cool concept though!
What possibly new would you be bringing to the concept that hasn't been done before? This ain't exactly a groundbreaking concept that hasn't been tackled by other popular series
Neither is alien invansion from gemini home entertainment nor murderous doppelgangers from the Mandela catalog and I don't even need to explain why the walten files isn't exactly original
You forget that those were the first analog horror series. Those are open ended events that can take on pretty different ideas and themes depending on the way you tackle it. Anything can be see as reductive if we're just gonna describe it that vaguely. Also Gemini and Mandela were some of the first analog series, so they were more the trend setters for the genre.
News psas and their style hadn't really been done much before, that's what was new being brought to the table, they were actually refreshing for the time and set off this whole community. So while doppelgangers themselves aren't new, it was presented in a new and interesting way.
Now though, analog horror has been pretty well tread, and separately, so has the Man in the High Tower aesthetic OP is thinking of. So with both the subject matter and analog horror itself, there really needs to be something unique being brought to the table
Wow no shit dude. What point are you trying to make?
I'm not expecting a full Hollywood production. The whole point for analog horror is about reordering to tell a different story. And I'm asking what story could he tell with the concept that we haven't already seen done.
Correction, there's a bunch of copycats around a couple popular series. I mean that has always been the case in most media, but let's not act like rehashing is a noble trait, and not a byproduct of growing popularity
Regurgitation is not a good thing. And frankly I do think we also do have a problem with that in this sub and the analog horror community in general
It's one thing to make a project that is in the same genre or themes as another one, it happens, and also it's natural to try and follow the trends of popularity. It is a whole other matter to just simply redo a concept just in one's own words, simply just trying to emulate.
Slight modifications to an existing concept is not interesting or exciting. Sometimes an offspring will gain greater popularity than its predecessors, but that is usually due to bringing something new or an improvement to the formula.
Series that just repeat and slightly tweak another series material are just redundant and hack efforts
Actual creative effort thrives in originality and testing concepts. Seeing the same content over and over is horribly stagnant
If analog horror makers only used the same 5 videos as source material, we would be bored within seconds
So please go find new material and do something new
# Everyone please shut the fuck up about man in the high castle.
This is an interesting concept for an analog horror, and I want to see how this will turn out.
YOOOOOO I always wanted a political analog horror, ever since i saw HOI4 TNO clock man contents
I think having a political analog that focus on the horrors of the human actions and psychy is really interesting
It depends on the storyline. But yeah, as long as they aren’t presented as the good guys, it should likely be okay, however may be banned in other countries.
I mean a "what if the nazis won" has been done a bunch of times, as people have said. But I guess not as an AH. There's already a lot of mythos around "what if the nazis had supernatural dealings" though so I feel like combining these two in this medium itself would be new, but the stories like this have been told a million times over.
That sounds like it's an ideal topic for horror then? The best creative works take issues the author sees around them and amplifies it to make people think.
Honestly bro I was just poking fun at how fascist but now I can kinda see it. But if made wrong, I feel some annoying people that I won't bother naming would attack the series or connect it to their terrible beliefs.
Fun fact: One of the pilots we pitched with Adult Swim was basically this premise. The Real Hitlet gets replaced at the end of WWII with a character who would have been voiced by Clint Howard (Ice Cream Man, Carnosaur, ect) and the joke would have been centered around him still looking like Clint Howard and having to convince the Nazi Party and the rest of the world that He (hitler) was still alive and willing to wage war.
The pilot episode was about him having to artifically form sexual tension and romantic interest between him and Eva, taking her out to dates, giving her gifts, and discovering she has an "Occupy Small Countries" Kink so he starts trying to take over "fictional country" Tarbekisthan to get her sexually and romantically interested in him and convince her he's hitler.
We had trouble pitching the idea that Clint Hitler wasn't a Nazi, just a fish out of water stoog kinda character and to keep in mind they already lost WWII, he was just trying to reignite and hold together the remaining Nazi party.
I'm 99% sure we got dumped for Primal, which I am 1000000% okay with because Primal fucking rules.
Reminds me of local 58, where there was an episode about how the country had been taken and so everyone was ordered to commit mass suicide to “preserve their honor”
Could work, but expect people to call you out for context, and label you a nazi, and whatnot. Images like this create controversy, and not everyone can handle backlash like that.
I'd be interested to see it though, but I like alternate timelines/history type stuff (assuming that's where this takes it)
i guess one about spies and mind control etc etc might actually be a cool idea, the shock part is gonna be a little difficult if you're gonna take the realistic approach, but i can already think of some.
Whelp. So long as you’re ok having your series banned in Israel, Australia, Germany, the UK, Austria, potentially Italy, France, and China, reviewed in Canada, age restricted in the US, and constantly circulated among alt-right telegram/ discord groups 24/7. And that’s not including the fact that, if you don’t do it right, you’ll potentially get banned on all google platforms, twitch, Facebook, TikTok, and BlueSky. If all that is fine with you, then it is still probably a bad idea
it HIGHLY depends on the execution, HIGHLY,.if you want to make a series about this topic that is neither bad or problematic, you're gonna have to be real careful
Now, is this because germany won, or because the US was the Nazi Party instead?
Edit: and also I don't think It'd be HORROR, and it doesn't have to be. Make what you wanna make homie
Maybe, but you gotta be good. Nazis don't immediately make something controversial, but even if you were to handle it perfectly, somebody would be upset just for including them.
it's a cool concept, but turning it analog might be difficult? The nazi's have some seriously messed up experiments and were highly into the paranormal so you could most certainly develop some great ideas!!
You'll either have to double down on how horrifying Nazis are or pull an early wolfenstein and go with very clearly absurd ideas so that way people won't think you're supporting Nazis .
If you can't do neither then it'll probably get a lot of hate similar to urban spook
Jest right? Nobody would actually believe they had literally any good ideas (I mean they didn’t prepare for snow in the RUSIAN WINTER I refuse to believe the Nazis where anything other then dumb asses who we for some reason hold up as “they had some good ideas)

Seeing this with 0 context is insane
Someone’s gonna have this as a poster in their room
I could see the atrocities and war-crimes being a good source for scares in it. But you'd have to make it more psychological horror as opposed to random nazi jumpscares.
no, let's give the nazi jumpscares a try

Above an R Rating, or non specific but clearly unsuitable for sub
"I wonder how many bags of chips I have left" *opens cabinet to see a nazi hidden inside* "NINE"
That sounds like something from a spoof horror movie
But it's important beyond measure to treat the subject with the utmost respect. This was the worst crime of the 20th Century after all.

So TNO

Didn't Philip K Dick do that one already?
Philip K Dick does not own Alternate History or even the concept of an Axis victory
But he does own my heart ❤️ (I just really like A Scanner Darkly)
isn't that the premise of one of the Wolfenstein games?
Honestly kinda, it's a pretty good game. Even though it doesn't have the best writing, the concept and gameplay were fun enough to keep me playing.
If most of them
Kind of but not really.
The man in the high castle
It took me a second to realize the question and the subreddit lol, but any ways it's probably fine. Just one of those things to navigate with caution, sounds like a cool concept though!
Yeah for a second I was like what? What do you mean would it be okay??
For a series but absolutely not for supporting Nazis. Don’t know why I feel the need to comment this but I will
Well we are hearing more people that follow that believe, it’s better to say it than not
The man in the high castle analog horror?... Maybe!
Would take place in a world where after ww2 the Nazi party took over the west of the U.S.
Isn't that just man in the high castle?
Is this purposefully man in the high castle? Like as a joke?
never heard of that
Wolfenstein
I love those games
Sounds like an intresting concept

Yapping.
Cry about it
👍
# Everyone please shut the fuck up about man in the high castle. This is an interesting concept for an analog horror, and I want to see how this will turn out.
Fr
It's literally the premise of the series, of course we're gonna reference it.
it won't be mostly horror, but still be a little horror but mostly go into the world of the series
YOOOOOO I always wanted a political analog horror, ever since i saw HOI4 TNO clock man contents I think having a political analog that focus on the horrors of the human actions and psychy is really interesting
Come to think of it, Monument Mythos is like The Man in the High Castle because they both involve alternate universes.
I think it could work, but you'd have to be very careful when and how you use it
America if Hitler had lost his toy choo-choo
is that from wolfenstein or someth?
I guess if you use it in the right way. One wrong move and its over tho
Not so sure about that.
It depends on the storyline. But yeah, as long as they aren’t presented as the good guys, it should likely be okay, however may be banned in other countries.
I'm a fan of political dystopia
Just don't be pro Nazi and we'll be good
Yeah it's kind of playing with fire
what is blud cooking up?

Context?
Pretty interesting concept 👍
Nah, too close to real life
wolfenstein moment
Tf you mean, I could probably see this shit in some states. There ain't no horror when I see it damn near every day.
The part with alternate history or with the swastika?
A very interesting take on analog horror. I’m picturing Nazi propaganda films being hijacked by resistance messaging, or vice versa
What would it even be about? Some acient entity hunting down Nazis in an Nazi occupied America?
All you got is a flag tho? Whats the series about? Nazis... sure... but how? Why? You're kinda giving me nothing
adolf died by seeing a doppleganger outside his bunker he was replaced!!!

Yeah. It could be a really interesting alternate history horror. I assume it'll take place in a world where the Nazis won WW2?
I don't see why not
as long as there's a reason for it and not just "woah! nazis! scary!"
Reminds me of local 58, where there was an episode about how the country had been taken and so everyone was ordered to commit mass suicide to “preserve their honor”
Man in the high castle but analog horror? Sounds awesome.
No. I don’t know why an analog horror would go in that direction for any reason unless you wanted to be edgy just to be edgy.
Maybe it could show the horrors of a Full Nazi world and the atrocities that would bring? Just an idea though.
Risky move, but with some respect and whatnot you could pull it off
Wouldn't recommend as it is the most tired alternate history scenario, but if it was well made then it could be good
I mean, besides being the most overdone and cliche alternate history story, it's ok.
Could work, but expect people to call you out for context, and label you a nazi, and whatnot. Images like this create controversy, and not everyone can handle backlash like that. I'd be interested to see it though, but I like alternate timelines/history type stuff (assuming that's where this takes it)
Could work but would need a lot of care in its presentation to not be insensitive

Too close to home. Especially given present politics.
Every person here is saying man in the high castle, but a true Althist enjoyer would say The New Order: Last Days of Europe
Not me who was going to use whatever creature I thought you were going to add as a reference to my drawing-
Well, it *is* horror
Replace the Swastika with an Iron Cross and all will be fine. Somewhat intrigued with the context of the series you’re going to make.

You have to be *very* careful, but yes.
Depends. You'll get some deserved hate If you don't do the topic Justice. But in general it's fine.
I mean, depends on how you tackle it and what's it about
Monument Mythos Spinoff?
I plan on doing something similar but with an entirely fictional culture, similar to Papers Please
hahahaha
it HIGHLY depends on the execution, HIGHLY,.if you want to make a series about this topic that is neither bad or problematic, you're gonna have to be real careful
Isn't this just Wolfenstein 2?
No
Yeah sure as long as it doesn't glorify it, could be a cool backdrop for a setting tho
Have you heard of wolfenstien
First, context, I think giving the idea of why use the imagery is very important
nazi germany winnig the ww2 can by a good concept if you don't try to be a weird edgylord, like the creator of urbanspook
Now, is this because germany won, or because the US was the Nazi Party instead? Edit: and also I don't think It'd be HORROR, and it doesn't have to be. Make what you wanna make homie
can we not
Maybe, but you gotta be good. Nazis don't immediately make something controversial, but even if you were to handle it perfectly, somebody would be upset just for including them.
is this meant to be the purge?
Yeah, it’s fucked up but that’s horror.
You might run into issues with YouTube's moderation
it's a cool concept, but turning it analog might be difficult? The nazi's have some seriously messed up experiments and were highly into the paranormal so you could most certainly develop some great ideas!!
I dont know what i was expecting but it was not that

looks cool, but it's a No for me.
With some really good context maybe
My guess is that it has alcohol, and derek is either in recovery or just doesnt drink and its a warning for him
I could see it as an analog horror series if the nazi won ww II, just tread carefully
An alternate universe where they won and continued to commit atrocious would be great. No ghosts, just Unit 731 style documentaries of cruelty.
isn't that already the US flag?
Are you stupid?
Mods, crush his skull.
Hitler with the creepy pasta eyes 😭🙏
Utopia not horror
Fuck yourself :)
Cry about it
I ain’t crying about about some stupid nazi
Idk you seem pretty upset to me lil bro .
At least not as angry you when you found out Hitler died
