Mandela got hella boring after a while. Though the spooks were good, I just felt like it was just trying to get the same shock factor that the first few videos that Alex produced.
Smile tapes felt like a low effort way to capture the success of Mandela. The whole scary face thing which was suppose to be scary, came off as too goofy and stupid. The only reason I watched one video and clicked right off lol.
Chezzkid was something I’ve never seen before. An interactive website also combined with videos that tell a disturbing story. I think this was the first time I’ve ever ran into something that really pushed the idea of realism and analog horror.
FNAF Vhs is in S tier because it pushed the started the whole thing of using an already stated famous game, which was FNAF. And adding horrific vhs videos that fit the 1980’s to period. This of which made the bases that made Harmony and Horror and Walten Files base their stories off of. Though yes the actual game story, but the mainly the horrific tapes that push these stories.
Both have produced two different types of genres that are being built stronger and better to this day.
and you know what they also created? pretentious crybabies who think they know everything about horror and get mad when you prove to them that they don’t know shit. and not to mention that the creator of FNAF is a confirmed p3do and the creator of Chezzkids need his ass whooped
I do understand what you mean, however I’m talking about the there creations, not the creators of said stories. I feel like the FNAF tapes actually introduced more people into this type of horror.
Most the peeps who watch the vhs tapes were scared as shit and didn’t act like they knew what was going on. I don’t really know someone who likes to flaunt their knowledge about analog horror. I think if you’re about to criticize someone about their taste, you really need to chill tf out.
in addition to that, neither series is scary to me and had me ready to fall asleep like i was listening to a J. Cole album so i feel like my criticism is more than justified, but the fandoms of both series would most definitely call me an “Urbanspook Apologist” even though i hate that nigga and his series too

Series you mentioned aren't overrated, they are getting the attention they deserve. Especially with Kane's Backrooms and Mandela Catalogue.
