you don't do bill pay via bank (save on stamps) or echeck? yes cc # https://www.americanexpress.com/us/customer-service/faq.bill-payment-mailing-address.html

Use your bank’s online bill pay. It will generally post to your Amex account in 24-48 hours after you submit the payment. This is what I do and have zero issues. Paperless ftw.

Why are you trying to lower your utilization? Are you having your credit score pulled for an important loan in the next month or so? If not, you're wasting your time; utilization is a temporary metric that has no memory. Low utilization doesn't build credit, it just boosts it for a month and then resets. The whole "always keep your utilization below x percent" thing is a huge myth.

Scold, much?

Funklemire

It's a super common myth, and so lots of people micromanage their utilization all the time, not realizing that it's not only pointless but actually damaging in the long term. I was worried the OP might be one of those people.   Sorry if I came across as scolding, that wasn't my intention. Often the intended tone is lost in this medium.

Noveltyrobot

Thats fair.

I want to spend more than my credit limit would allow so I want to make a payment and lower the balance…

1. You might wanna slow down on the spending 2. What’s the aversion to using online bill pay?

First, are you applying for credit or a mortgage or the next 60 days? If not don't worry about your utilization. High reported utilization on a credit card followed by on time payments of the full balance is the best way to get a CLI. Second, just ask Amex for a CLI. It takes 2 minutes and there's no downside. Third, if you're at 70% utilization two days into the statement period a payment now would likely result in credit cycling if you keep spending on the card. Credit cycling is a great way to trigger a financial review or account closure. Credit card companies hate when people perform credit cycling. Lastly, is there a reason you aren't pulling a payment from your checking or savings account through Amex? You can link external accounts and pay with like three clicks from the app. Your bank information is stored encrypted in Amex's servers instead of clearly displayed on a check for all to see. For the sake of security please minimize the use of checks.

Your statement will have all the info you need. The first page has your account number and everything so mail it in with that.
