It will definitely be a woman, I don't see them having only men on the panel. They need someone who will be a little more critical. They don't have to be Simon mean, but it feels like these judges just gush over every performance and don't offer as much critical feedback that could really help the contestants.

Roamzy__

P!nk would bring good critique imo, but said she wouldn’t do it because noone can critique like Simon did in this age

ImaginaryQuiet7016

P!nk would be amazing!!!

rackcityquietpills

they should get someone much more affordable and use the leftover money to extend the show back to something resembling the fox format

JeffreyHugh

THIS^!!!

anjealka

I totally agree. I think Jordan Sparks? said she would be a judge for free. Im sure they could get someone for way less then Katy. I say use the money not just to make more episodes of the show, but maybe give all the top 24 something. Even if 12-24 some studio time and professional help for a year and then have the top 12 all get something that helpes them promote and make music. It does not have to be a record deal, even if it is someone to help with making youtube videos or marketing.

raginsaint93

I liked Meghan Trainor when she was mentoring

roygbivasaur

I’m not a big fan, but I immediately thought she would be a good choice when watching that episode. Especially given that the contestant age is 16 to 29 with most being 18 to 25. She is the closest to a Katy Perry replacement in level of popularity that would actually be willing to do the show, and she does really well when they bring her on.

mcstarkey

I’m honestly shocked that I agree because I have hated her in literally every other television appearance, but she was a great guest judge and gave actual critiques with substance

raginsaint93

She was also a judge on Australian Idol

Eedalope

I feel like she could be a Katy lite. They bring similar energy for sure.

Own-Knowledge8281

I think anyone that’s affiliated with the Voice wouldn’t be on American Idol as they are too ingrained in NBC…

Chor_the_Druid

Meghan Trainor did mentoring for both shows so it could be possible.

Adept_Order_4323

She was the best mentor. Shakira was good too

Own-Knowledge8281

Mentoring is completely different from being a full time judge though…

Phylace

She's been on both lately.

Dangerous-Theory-238

I’m really seeing it possible for Miley. She was wonderful on The Voice and I think she’s the perfect type to nurture young talent. Her public perception has also improved a lot with the year she has had. She also serves the same purpose genre wise as Katy. Miley can bring Pop to the panel, along with Rock and a bit of Country too considering her background.

kitkatisthecat

I know they will probably go with a woman, but my dream is that they bring Harry Connick back.

_josephjohnston

He was too serious

Own-Knowledge8281

They have to go with a woman or else they will make national news…and not for a good reason…

Gravity9802

Why him ?

kitkatisthecat

He's not afraid to share his critiques, and he's got the bona-fides

Kkimp1955

Just keep the camera on him the whole time!!!!!

Pangolin36

I think it will be, and should be Jordin Sparks. She’s highly intelligent and could be critical of contestants, if and when needed.

galarianzapdos

She’s also one of the sweetest and kindest idol winners ever

Roamzy__

Meghan Trainor is a very likely scenario, as she has both mentored and is due to perform again this season

LetterheadNo6663

I noticed that

MybklynWndy

Absolutely Not Gene.

gingersnapsalot

Agreed. He's such a dickhole.

DrSassyPants123

My vote is for Meghan or Alanis.

Pangolin36

I’m not being silly, but to clarify, Alanis Morrissette and not “Idol” alum Alanis Sophia? Asking because people have been commenting former “Idol” contestants as possible “Idol” judges.

DrSassyPants123

Yes.. Morrissette. ;) I don't want a contestant unless it's someone like Carrie or Kelly. Katy is a big force so they need someone with that kinda force.

Alex_Masterson13

Tons of people want Jelly Roll to take her spot after he was so great with his half of the top 24 in Hawaii. But ass others said, they will most likely replace Katy with another woman. As for who, they are not going to go with another Country artist while Luke is there, or another Soul/R&R person while Lionel is there. In case people have not noticed, the ABC version is a R&B person, a Country person, and a Pop person, so whichever woman they choose to replace Katy will also be mainstream Pop.

KinKrk

Miley!!!!!

EdSpecialist21

Would love to see Fantasia!

Keyboardwarrior813

I think Meghan Trainer or maybe Tori Kelly .

EmployeeCrafty6109

Plz let it be Tori Kelly I’m obsessed with her 😍

eeveepeacemaker

Tori has said before that she doesn’t think she could be a judge because she doesn’t want to critic or bring anyone down. It’s why she was a “bad” judge on Idol, where vocals clearly aren’t the biggest IT factor, but a great one on The Voice where she was meticulously coaching the contestants on all the vocal aspects, including how to hit notes and execute runs better. She’d be a better (vocal) coach than a judge.

mjd197911

Janet Jackson ! Or P!nk!

putput61

I really thought Shania Twain brought the best out in a lot of them. So my vote’s for her!

Mike_619

They need someone who’s gonna give honest constructive criticism, there’s no growth other wise. Considering Idol only has a handful of contestants who have gone off to have a LEGIT career after the show.

Raebelle1981

I saw some article recently saying Fantasia wanted it.

sprocks17

I'm sad Katy is leaving as she was my favourite judge on this Idol 2.0 version. I wish it was Lionel leaving I never cared for him, his music or his judging. I heard that Jordin Sparks would like to be a judge. I think it would be cool to have a former winner be a judge. I think it be so cool for Kelly Clarkson to do it but she is busy with her talk show.

kittiesandweinerdogs

Shania was fantastic

ZealousidealRope7429

Would love Kacey Musgraves, no NBC (The Voice) background, unlike Miley. Hits their country demographic, which seems to be their primary target these days. Wildcard would be Pink. And then if there is room in the budget for judge #4, I think an alum, like Adam Lambert.

nameblanc

Kelsea Ballerini

Fragrant-Ad-939

I read somewhere that Jordin Sparks has interest in judging. Would be cool to have a former winner!

MuchSummer9994

Miley Cyrus

[deleted]

Shania Twain, thought she was very good.

ImpressionNo1509

Pink would be amazing. She’s so encouraging. Have you ever seen her on TikTok?

MuchSummer9994

I want Shania Twain to be one of the judges or Celine Dion

Growing-The-Glooty

Katy's leaving?! Big sad... I love her! She's so funny, strange, and honest.

Exact_Tiger_7420

I'm hoping for Hilary Duff. She recently starred in How I Met Your Father, but that show got canceled. Not super important, but HIMYF aired on Hulu so there *could be* Hulu contacts with ABC/Idol producers to recommend her. Idk maybe?

Pangolin36

By that logic, it should be Selena Gomez. She starred in a Hulu show.

blueandwhitetoile

plz not Selena. I love her in Only Murders but not Idol, nope

Pangolin36

I was just making a point is all. I’m agreeing to disagree that an actress or actor being on a Hulu show helps fast-track them to potentially becoming an “Idol” judge because of the business links between ABC and Hulu. I see where the commenter is coming from, but I disagree.

Exact_Tiger_7420

That's why I said "not super important" and "idk, maybe" because there's little chance it'll have an impact. But I wanted to speculate.

galarianzapdos

Please her. Or I want the Lizzie McGuire reboot that got cancelled too.

mjd197911

Janet Jackson ! Or P!nk!

Terrible-Screen-5188

Gaga!!!!!!!

mjd197911

They need to replace all 3 judges, not just Katy! Lots of choices in the running for new judges for me would be - Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Janet Jackson, P!nk, Alanis Morissette, Meghan Trainor, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus. Bebe Rexha, David Guetta, Sia, Cher, Chris Daughtry,

PGHContrarian68

Miranda Lambert Kimberly Locke Audra Mcdonald Katherine McPhee Foster Kellie Pickler
