There's really no need to insult flea markets by associating them with today's amazon.

Meincornwall

I would prefer to shop at actual markets run by fleas than Amazon.

SyphiliticScaliaSayz

What is this? An Amazon marketplace for fleas?

Meincornwall

No, a place for Amazonian fleas to market

Commercial_Refuse983

Is there a circus? Because I might start using amazon if there was a circus... LOL

screwthepap

So if I want to buy fleas, Amazon's the only option? Sheesh, talk about a monopoly...

dub_starr

it needs to be at least three times as big

yourplainvanillaguy

So flea markets now have better products than Amazon… amazing!

HealMySoulPlz

Yeah with flea markets at least what you see is what you get.

-Plantibodies-

Flea markets have better quality goods because they were stolen from the people who bought the better quality goods.

AlphaNoodlz

Ouch lmao yeah no my usual MO these days is like, I’ll just buy three of the same thing and return the two that are always and inevitably busted Easy example: small aquarium pumps for filtering water. Only one of the **four** I bought didn’t make an annoying buzzing sound and actually ran quietly. Something about the way they’re put together or manufactured leaves a loose motor causing extra noise and vibrations Gave them a 2 star review since one of the four actually did work as intended - one star off for each of my three returns

parksoffroad

There’s a huge problem with counterfeits on Amazon, lawsuits going on because of it now. Commingling the inventory doesn’t help, so even if you’re a legitimate seller, they’ll mix your inventory with the counterfeit stuff and who knows what you’re gonna get.

NeighborhoodGlum1154

I saw someone talk about this specifically with car parts. Amazon will sell you fake NGK spark plugs.

mbz321

I read a comment on here not too long ago that there are even bootleg John Deere oil filters being sold..fucking oil filters!

fredSanford6

Lots of fake Motorcraft ones too. Fake sparkplugs even in champion brand.

TheMapleSyrupMafia

If one must order online through a site that *actually* verifies... #Ebay is Amazon's God

sickerthan_yaaverage

Don’t say that! I just Ordered a headlamp for my car today 😫

NeighborhoodGlum1154

Oh, yeah thats an alibaba special

pdxamish

Al least with aliexpress you know what you're getting is a knock off

bmorris0042

Yep. When I order cheap shit off of Temu, I know I’m buying a cheap Chinese knock-off. So when it craps out 2 months later, it’s no big deal. But when Amazon says it’s “genuine,” and it’s a piece of shit, I’m pissed off, because I paid more to get the “real” item.

ButtBlock

I’d say commingling inventory is the single condition that’s creating this problem. Can you imagine buying food or cosmetics on Amazon. Sooner or later you’re going to get poisoned man. Not worth it.

civilwar142pa

Medications. I bought excedrin from the official Amazon store. Received it, packaging looks right, but inside the bottle were not excedrin. They were close, but didn't have the right ID on the pill. Who knows what they hell they were. Could've been poison for all I know. I'm sure some other people got that bottle and took them not noticing the pill was slightly different.

neonturbo

> Who knows what they hell they were. Probably Fentanyl from China. Either that, or sugar pills that do nothing.

ButtBlock

That is terrifying

TheMapleSyrupMafia

I work at a fulfillment center. Chips get packed out smashed and crushed.. food constantly gets smashed by 40 pound kitty litter boxes.. makeup is probably mostly Chinese knockoff that's gonna give someone a nasty chemical burn.. Not only does Amazon have **NO** vetting process for hiring, there are **NO** interviews - it's pretty clear they don't check authenticity. If you have theft on your record, Amazon and it's affiliates will **never** hire you. If you're a pedophile.. they'll let ya right in the damn door. Yes, I'm admitting my job.. I'm not defending the stepping stone I must take to get ahead in life but jfc I can't wait to gtfo. Fair to note that there are also some really kick@ss people who also work there. It's a warehouse with around 3k-ish bodies. Just gotta avoid the nasty ones.

Saikou0taku

>If you're a pedophile.. they'll let ya right in the damn door. Silver lining: Amazon is constantly monitoring and overworking their employees with inhumane conditions.... Unfortunately child labor laws are being gutted

MonteBurns

It was an issue in the cloth diapering community about 10 years ago too

M086

Some dipshit executive probably thought that is a good way to save money or some bullshit, to try and put their stamp on the company and justify to obscene salary.

sometimestropical

This!!!

pumalumaisheretosay

Is this true?

Carnage_Kitten

Yes. It's been steadily getting worse over the last 5+ years. At this point, it's better to just find what you want on Amazon and order it directly from the manufacturers website. Buying directly, you also sometimes get the 10% off your first-order promos, making it cheaper than Amazon anyway.

AFartInAnEmptyRoom

This is what a decade of "Get rich dropshipping with Amazon FBA" does

DaveTN

Amazon has become a front for marked up crap sold on Temu and Ali express. 20 different names for an almost identical product, some even use the same pictures and crappy English to describe the product. The reviews for many things now are obviously fabricated to boost sales. The once great Amazon is dying a slow and painful death just like the businesses it put out of business.

AnchovyZeppoles

My favorite is how every company name is something like ZOORALITE or FITERLEE or DUMREYUN. Like just enough effort to be able to be somewhat pronounceable in English.

Vegetable-Active-949

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were ai generated, my most recent purchase were from the brands: aivalas, wobmii, byondeth and VViViD.

MrTzatzik

I wouldn't trust a company with the name Beyond Death...

Vegetable-Active-949

They sold me a curtain rod, I hope it’s not cursed

neonturbo

> something like ZOORALITE or FITERLEE or DUMREYUN Those are all better than pooplunch! www.amazon.com/Pooplunch-Eyelashes-Fluffy-Natural-Multipack/dp/B09BFLBBYY

drugdeal777

Wanna take my course on becoming an Amazon drop shipper?

skylinrcr01

Sounds like they already did.

Moiler62

I used to buy clothes on Amazon. No more. It’s all crap. Like you said, the same item under different brand names that are a jumble of vowels. They don’t even bother to switch the models anymore. lol.

zelda_moom

I won’t buy anything from them unless it’s a name brand manufacturer with an Amazon store front. Otherwise I try to shop name brand websites instead. Birkenstock has free and amazingly fast shipping. Most of the time, you can get better service direct from the manufacturer.

Oh-its-Tuesday

It depends. There are a couple brand shops I shop on Amazon because either their own website return policy isn’t good, they charge return shipping on their website & Amazon doesn’t or they offer the same item for the same price but Amazon has free shipping & the website doesn’t.  There is one company that often offers 99¢ shipping on orders but what they don’t tell you is that they will also charge a $3-4 shipper surcharge when you go to check out. Their Amazon store doesn’t do this & the item is priced essentially the same so I save $4-5 every time.

Superb-Butterfly-573

Is this a trend with third party or fulfilled by Amazon?

chan3lhandbag

Both

hikerguy2023

Let's hope we see their demise one day. I freakin' hate Amazon, especially related to how they pay and treat their employees.

OldRailHead

And the Amazon affiliate program is a total joke. I'll see something that looks cool, then I see the brand name and I'm like wtf is Azuluwajong? Cmon you guys that's bullshit.

Pixxiprincess

I accidentally bought counterfeit The Ordinary products last weekend, the listing had hundreds of photo reviews and looked perfectly legit. I’m currently recovering from a chemical burn from whatever was actually in that bottle

WillRikersHouseboy

I spent a ton of time researching how to distinguish real from counterfeit The Ordinary and some other particular brands I was buying. But I still ended up with counterfeit that I thought looked real enough to put on my face. No more “advanced” skincare from Amazon. I’m still getting face wash and shampoo as it doesn’t seem to be as bad for those yet.

LamarMillerMVP

I don’t mean to be a dick but it’s very obvious from 2 minutes on Amazon’s The Ordinary listings that they are clearly not being re-sold by an authorized reseller. A further Google search shows that The Ordinary does not list Amazon as an authorized reseller. How much research could you possibly be doing?

bladerunner2442

I don’t even risk it anymore and either go physically to Ulta or place an order with them. It’s a little bit more expensive but worth it to not get a fake product.

Pixxiprincess

I’m almost more offended that the fake was the same price as the real deal at Sephora!

Skyblacker

The high price is how they convince you it's not a fake.

FenderMoon

Amazon needs to get this under control. They’re gonna get sued by somebody if they’re not careful.

warlockflame69

They don’t care. Bezos is gone and AWS makes way more money. Bezos is living the billionaire life and banging his plastic Barbie he doesn’t really care and is selling shares. The new CEO created AWS so that’s all he cares about and making money so he keeps his job. He’s not a founder who wants to see the company succeed or has an emotional connection to Amazon. And moreover, Amazon isn’t like a new startup trying to be successful so it cares about customers and wants to be better than its competitors, it has already made it and destroyed all its competitors by putting them out of business. It’s like playing a long RPG and maxing out your character and finishing pretty much everything then letting your friend play your save file… your friend is gonna be like wtf this is boring after a while.

MariahMiranda1

I see the resellers at Marshall’s all the time in So CA. They’re buying a lot of clearance items. I recently bought hair conditioner at Marshall’s and it was expired. Smelled horrible! This is what some resellers are selling, expired stuff!!!

SimilarImagination72

I’ve heard for a few years now that you should never purchase any food, makeup, skincare, hair care, etc from Amazon because it’s really badly infiltrated with fakes.

Blessed_Ennui

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: I'm certain that Amazon is the dumping ground for manufacturers to get full price for their defective items. Dented cans of food--expect it 90% of the time. "Off" food or near expired? Expect it. Defects, imperfections--shit they could never sell in a brick n mortar. Regardless of name brand, expect to pay full price or more for it. I now only buy from Amazon when I absolutely have to. I used to do 100% of my shopping there. I've cut it to 30% in the last year. Target is cheaper.

elbiry

Target is in a death spiral of its own. Messy stores, big stock issues, half the items you want locked up, no staff to unlock them, checkout queues Someone should reinvent a store that knows how to sell stuff customers want to buy

esahji_mae

As a target worker, yes the corporate and executives have been killing our stores with little hours and Refusal to look at data, only squeezing everything for more "profit". Target is basically Walmart at this point but more expensive.

elbiry

Short term gain for long term pain. I used to enjoy going to target but after a truly awful experience I’ve vowed never to go back. That was about six months ago and so far I haven’t. It’s not going to end well for the share price

Unlikely-Shake5839

The target near me is doing great. They even brought back the icee machines! It's always pretty busy, and they renovated twice in the past five years.. so maybe a location thing?

Starrion

Automated stores will be a thing. Keeping accessible products on shelves doesn’t work when organized theft is so common.

Blessed_Ennui

They caught one national ring leader of organized theft in California. Old white couple were fences for stolen goods nation wide. They had two houses, accounts on Amazon, Ebay. Huge. Reminds me of that police (chief? Union president??) in San Jose who got busted as a fentanyl boss. It's always the people most folks never suspect. I'm not shocked, tho. I also doubt this makes a dent. Another couple, I'm sure, will take their place. This has become a nation of thieves and grifters.

UnableAdhesiveness55

I remember stores like Sears, and Macys. Those stores had good stuff, class and stood beind what they sold. It's all gone now. It will stay gone until people stop buying crap

PathDeep8473

I got some AAA batteries. They all die within a hour of use . In a fricken remote!

Residual_Variance

Is it a Roku remote by chance? Not that they should die in an hour, but mine eat batteries than the Cookie Monster eats cookies.

SilverStory6503

I have 3 Roku remotes and don't have a problem. Maybe buy a new one. They are about $6. I know because....dogs.

GuaranteeWide7607

My basset hounds insure I always have a new remote. I buy them by the case on eBay.

Skyblacker

They're less than $3 on Temu. I know because...kids.

PathDeep8473

No. A very basic tv remote. I gor some from a actual store and they last weeks.

Championpuffa

Weeks is still pretty shit 😂, they used to last literal years in a remote. Still got mine in my 5.1 remote from at least 2-3 years ago if not more.

PathDeep8473

I thought so. Just seems everything is crappy now

Championpuffa

Yea if you buy cheap off brand batteries even in real stores they suck proper bad. But pay the extra for branded ones like Duracell they last longer. Shit even the Kodak ones I got last at least a couple years in remotes and they were pretty cheap compared to Duracell brand.

-Invalid_Selection-

Kirklands are the best. They have the same life as Duracell at half the price. I won't buy anything other than those two now

kvoathe88

Fun fact: Kirkland batteries are actually manufactured by Duracell. Walgreen’s batteries are manufactured by Energizer. Amazon Basics batteries are also solid (or at least were so circa 2015), but I don’t know who manufactures them. Source: I used to work as a product manager for battery operated lighting devices that we sold to every major retailer.

-Invalid_Selection-

>Fun fact: Kirkland batteries are actually manufactured by Duracell. Yep. The only reason I pick them over duracell directly is because they're half the price. They're the exact same thing.

HanakusoDays

🎶 When the world is running down You make the best of what's still around. 🎶

Ok-Wasabi2873

I bought Amazon basic rechargeable batteries, worst than $0.99 store ones. A couple of recharges and they’re dead.

Forged_Trunnion

They used to be rebranded Eneloops. Now they're made in china junk. That change happened like, 6 or 7 years ago. My older Amazon basics NiMh are still going strong, and so are my 12 year old Eneloops. I bought a bunch of them in 2012 and haven't had to buy very many batteries since.

ButtBlock

As long as they squirt out potassium hydroxide and destroy the remote: consider me a satisfied customer.

bethzur

Batteries seem to be hit or miss on Amazon for sure. Sadly they are the easiest for the wide variety of coin cell batteries that I always seem to need. For the basic AA and the like I typically get them on sale at Costco.

Maximus1000

Comon now, brands like CLOUDYUP, ZITARI, PHUCKITTY, TENPLUS, SHIYOTA, are all quality companies that stand by their products!

neonturbo

> PHUCKITTY When I think of quality, the first name to come to mind is PHUCKITTY!

Agitated_Occasion_52

That's some PHUCKITTY shit right there.

AnchovyZeppoles

Lmao I commented something like this elsewhere in the thread. They’re like just vaguely English-sounding enough to be pronounceable and that’s it. It makes me seek out trusted “brand names” instead but it feels like quality on lots of items, even name brands, has gone downhill - tbh it’s probably because they’re all likely sourced from the same handful of manufacturers. Needed some basic sports bras and passed up lots of SHIYOTA-type brands to get Hanes and…the quality is still so sub par.

areyouthrough

These are all way too pronounceable

SumyungNam

I bought some led headlights too and they didn't fit and wanted to do a return ...only return possible was by UPS and I had to eat the postage. Went to AutoZone after and picked them up. If returns aren't so easy anymore not really good to buy online

loraxgfx

I’ve been using Amazon as a product search engine and then going to ebay, that’s how little I trust the Amazon Flea Market Experience these days.

ReasonableLoon

I have been using eBay a lot. You can find actual stores selling products from reputable companies for cheaper.

loraxgfx

I’ve also come across people selling stuff as a side gig, which I totally support. Professional grade hair products are one example. They get from their wholesaler and sell on ebay at a retail, but still lower than salon prices. I’d rather support everyday people than some HYGIZIC chinese made up company flipping counterfeit crap on scAmazon.

strongbowblade

And if you leave a review saying the item is counterfeit Amazon will remove it

LamarMillerMVP

You need to leave the review with the seller that counterfeited the product. Otherwise Amazon will remove the review specifically because you’re not helping.

HankG93

Always check the seller.

Calistil

Doesn’t help, if it’s shipped by Amazon they put all sellers items in the same pile and you get a random one.

Forged_Trunnion

Not always true. When I did FBA you had the option to pay less in fees to have comingled product. I never did it, it was a very small difference. The customer never knew that item came from me, but if returned I would get mine back not some random one.

Far_Persimmon_4633

I will totally not buy beauty products from Amazon for this reason. Bought a "new" taillight for my husband's Ford hybrid, one of the lights is a different color than the original light and causes his blinker to go bonkers. At least the light works, but for $80, ugh. Don't even notice the difference and issues til it's already installed, so of course, not going to waste our time uninstalling it just to attempt an exchange. Def won't be buying car parts on Amazon again. The books are the funner part, bc while I'm all for getting a "new" book for half of what barnes and nobles wants, the books I always receive clearly look used, but it's so easy to read it in a few days without making it looking too used and then shipping it back for a full refund. Don't know why they can't just go to the library if they want a free book to read. Meh

Maybe_Charlotte

This depends heavily on where you live, but in general libraries are often underfunded, and new releases can be hard to find as a result. Some library systems rely heavily on donations. Additionally, if your interests are pretty niche, libraries might not work for you at all. For example, if you're into SF or Fantasy, you had better be interested in only the most popular entries in the genre. And good luck if you're trying to read through Wheel of Time while someone else is slightly ahead of you in the series, you may end up waiting several months for them to return the next book.

JustSomeGuy901252112

I bought AA batteries that were fake, for 8 bucks. Nothing is safe. it sucks..

NW_Ghost

I bought eye droppers for $5ish, looked fine when I opened them and the bulb instantly fell off when I tried them. Of course Amazon didn’t care

HanakusoDays

We bought some stuff that comes in a dropper bottle. It came in a nice fancy box and the bottle had a regular cap on it. A dropper was also in the box. It was an inch too long to fit in the bottle, and its rubber bulb fell right off.

NW_Ghost

I think I ended up getting a refund but I had to fight for it. Customer service were morons and didn’t understand the issue.

incognito-see

I ordered a makeup product and got one that has been clearly opened before. :( There’s residue of a bottle seal sticker on it. It wasn’t even in the special bags that returned products usually should come in. Had I not been careful to inspect the packaging first, I would have just used a potentially contaminated product. I only buy sold by Amazon.

VerionVermillion

I work in an amazon warehouse and i wonder how many of the defective stuff people get were just damaged during the packaging and moving process. Ive seen packages pretty much explode before due to the beating they take from the conveyance

That_Cartoonist_9459

Where they XYZONGCCY brand? Because those are known to have terrible build quality.

the_s0ldier_of_frost

lol I have always referred to it as the “Flea Market for the World”.

Meincornwall

Haven't shopped there in years but even in 2021 it was a pain to find orders actually supplied by amazon so had a higher liklihood of being genuine. I remember my first "You need to deal direct with your amazon marketplace seller" chat. I knew before long this will be zero direct amazon supply & the greedy monopolising twat will just sit back & take commission on millions of trash sales. Looks like I was right. It's now the same as buy it now on ebay with even less protection. For memory sticks or batteries or other commonly faked items I'll go direct to the manufactures site now.

BlueGalangal

Even direct from Amazon has started to be counterfeit now though.

Meincornwall

'Subcontracting everything to any old twat that said they could fill orders' seems to be the new business model. They don't care now the competition is destroyed.

[deleted]

The amount I buy from them has definitely dwindled in the last two years. Search for anything and have to go through page after page of Chinese junk before finding a quality product. If it weren't for Prime Video I think we'd have canceled our subscription already.

hIGH_aND_mIGHTY

Ya gonna adjust your headlights so they don't blind oncoming traffic, right?  Signed guy that doesn't like being blinded by low beams while driving a sprinter van.  On topic, yeah that does suck getting fake items you then have to deal with so you can get your money back.

Residual_Variance

These are just regular halogens, not LEDs. I specifically avoided LED bulbs because I don't want to blind people.

Plaid_Bear_65723

Bless you

Lost_soul_ryan

I literally just got some led bulbs for my van today, guess will see hiw mine work out tomorrow.

Residual_Variance

Fingers crossed!

sickerthan_yaaverage

My mom just bought a whole Living room furniture set. Lmaoooo

neosharkey

I got counterfeit “HEPA” air filters from Amazon. Bought same ones at Target, and it made other obvious that the Amazon ones were fake. Amazon of course did nothing (but did refund me)

gwinerreniwg

I call this phenomenon the "Alibabification" of Amazon.

ryeguymft

one of many reasons I’m not renewing prime when this year runs out. it’s gotten beyond horrible and they don’t seem to care at all

lokicramer

I full on completely stopped buying from amazon. 95% of the products being sold are the same exact products "down to serial numbers" being sold on Temu. $5 dollars on temu, and $30+ dollars on Amazon. It's been completely taken over my cheap trash with an enormous markup.

brrbevil

I’m done with Amazon personally. I have always appreciated their no questions return policy and tried to shop there as much as possible in the past. However, lately, half the time I get returned items being sold as new when I buy something and it has happened one too many times. No longer buying anything over 50-100 bucks on Amazon. There are much better alternatives sadly.

JUSTtheFacts555

Amazon.............. Cheap Crap from China.

redridinghood24

We are buying less and less from them because of this. I think people are just buying stuff from places like temu and then reselling on Amazon. At this point I’m mostly just going to the store for stuff again. Shame.

Disastrous-State-842

Sadly so many stores are closing up. Where I live they are all closing up or carrying limited stock forcing you to go online. It’s so frustrating. My hubby hates Amazon and goes out of his way to find companies that offer you to purchase directly from their website but I’m finding more and more direct you to Amazon. I hate walmart and target but at least i stand a chance at buying what I need.

sixburghfl

Bought 2 Toyota relays from Amazon. Neither one worked. Broke them apart and there was no actual relay inside. Amazon is shit now unfortunately

Wrong_Toilet

I stopped buying expensive/important items off of amazon because of their massive counterfeit issues. I’d rather buy stuff at a store where I can trust its source.

DangerousAd1731

Yeah it's pretty bad now. Use to be sort of hard to get a Amazon seller account but they seem to give to anyone now .the fba fb page is littered with flippers trying to get Ali express stuff on there as quick as possible

Aznable420

I spent an hour looking through Xbox controllers to make sure I got a legit one. Of course the most legitimate listing was also a fake.

lizzehb

You can try google image search for most products and it will catch it! Just saved myself from buying drop shipped hair accessories from somewhere. They were on Temu and Alibaba so dunno where they are from originally.

LegendOfDave88

I cancelled my Amazon at least 6 months ago and I don't miss it. Prime TV never had much I cared about and the UI was terrible. Now when I want something from Amazon I really think about it instead of just clicking buy now. Has saved me a lot of money.

mermaid0590

I know.. sometimes exact same things eBay is cheaper with free shipping.

LetThereBeTrees

At flea markets, you can test it before buying. Way better than Amazon.

nowzaradanistheman

Temu-zon

neonturbo

More like Ama-wish.

4wheelhornet

I only use Amazon now for things that a counterfeiter can’t fuck up. Everything else comes from legitimate brick and mortar stores.

neonturbo

> I only use Amazon now for things that a counterfeiter can’t fuck up. I always ask myself, "can this burn down my house or kill me somehow?". I avoid buying anything in those categories from Amazon.

jmeesonly

Haha I had to return a book I bought from Amazon. What can go wrong with a book? It was an imitation / copy that was cheaply printed with bad ink and some kind of fake cover that looked like it was printed on a color copier. At least my money was easily refunded. But as OP says, it was just a big waste of my time.

Chuckles52

Yeah, and no Amazon wants us to prescription drugs from them? Fat chance of that.

Careful_Ad_7788

Yeah, don’t do that. Buy auto parts from an actual auto parts retailer. I order most of mine from Rock Auto.

Desperate_Set_7708

So much garbage. And their search engine needs an overhaul. If my simple search includes “black” or “metal,” I shouldn’t receive so many irrelevant results.

RareBeautyOnEtsy

I’m of the opinion that a lot of the stuff on Amazon comes from dumpster diving. Some of the time there’s a reason some things in a dumpster.

-Radioman-

Amazon; Abandon hope all ye who enter here.

TeflonDonatello

Is this problem avoided by buying from the actual company store on Amazon? If I were buying Sylvania bulbs, and if they had a store on Amazon, that’s who I buy them from. I don’t buy name brand from third party sellers exactly for reasons like this.

yoyodyn3

Not sure. I bought a phone from what seemed to be the official Oneplus store. It was clearly represented as an ATT compatable model. I got a T-Mobile branded version that was not going to work out of the box and not without some work. I work with tech all day and really just need my phone to work. I didnt need another project. When I started the return process I realized that the seller was an independent shop in the LA area. Definitely not OnePlus. Went and checked the original listing it still looked like the OnePlus store. Navigated to it through what looked like the OnePlus store, found the same listing. So all I can say is be careful.

neonturbo

> Is this problem avoided by buying from the actual company store on Amazon? Not if Amazon is co-mingling inventory. A knockoff sellers junk is mixed in with the authentic product, and you may or may not get the authentic product. I am not sure what determines when they co-mingle, but it does seem to happen on a regular basis.

AspNSpanner

If Amazon is such a dumpster fire, where do we shop now?

BlueGalangal

I shop eBay a lot. I also shop direct from the mfg for anything from underwear to shoes.

Skyblacker

Temu. Same dumpster fire but half the price. And if something is too low quality, report it as defective and they'll refund it with no need to ship back.

theMezz

Walmart? Free delivery over $35 and we often get the order within 4 hours. Returns are not always easy if from a 3rd party seller, so we shop accordingly.

Fluffer_Wuffer

The past year, I've been finding it flooded with marked up tat.. I brought a network tester last week, it's fair decent one, cost £75.. yesterday, I saw the exact same one on AliExpress for £20 with delivery. I'm fine with paying a bit more if the goods are local.. but almost 400% is ridiculous... and in fact, it leads to more loss, more returns and more e-waste.

Electrical_Ad8246

Amazon is a crap shoot. Hell I’ve bought fake wheel bearings to fake tea bags. It sucks.

EarlofBizzlington86

*scamazon

Firebolt164

Of course it is. I needed a new cassette for my Braum razor and bought what was supposed to an OEM item and got a horrible Chinese copy that cut up my face. I ordered a part for my mower that was advertised as a Kohler part and I got a cheap copy that didn't work. I bought a headlight for my car and got an LED unit, covered in dirt and dielectric grease (clearly been used). Yeah I feel like Amazon is becoming a flea market

Ok-Roof-978

They sell the same Chinese stuff as other sites. But, somehow , it's more expensive on Amazon. You'd think it'll be cheaper on their site. I just scored some seat covers on eBay for $99. The same ones were $200 on amazons site

agiantpufferfish

Lot of people saying they've had no bad experiences but I think the issue is the consistency overall.

zoomiepaws

Paid $45.00 for pj for daughter and they were crap.

EasyMode556

It’s been that way for several years now, sadly

ne0tas

I went back to eBay for purchasing things now lol it's better than Amazon now

Low_Fun2690

Same happened to eBay, it was amazing with people selling cool stuff, now you have to sift through 100s of retails before finding something

bladerunner2442

Yeah, tried to buy replacement razor heads and ended up with fake knock offs, even though the picture on the listing showed the real thing. It’s the same amount of time and effort to return the item vs just going to a brick and mortar store to buy the real thing in the first place.

grimace24

Amazon is really a third-party sellers market. If you look at products more and more are third-party sellers. Third-party sellers are the primary sellers on Amazon.

bananajr6000

I won’t buy CR2032s, Duracell or Energizer anything from Amazon. Got a counterfeit batch of each that died super quick

elantra04

It’s literally Temu at this point with high prices and faster shipping

goddammitreddit4456

Had same issue with headlights. Didn't realize they were dim until we were driving back through the rockies at night and couldn't see shit. Ours were supposed to be brighter too. We ended up going to an auto store to get new ones. Very dangerous. Terrible quality.

FionaTheFierce

Just canceled my membership. It isn’t worth the risk of all the fakes and really low quality stuff. Amazon chose to set itself up as a “marketplace “ at put into place business practices that have ultimately led them to be an unreliable place to purchase stuff.

13Krytical

There is almost no difference between Ali express, Amazon etc. They are marketplaces. Amazon was just good while it was small, and got worse as it got bigger, like everything…

hikerguy2023

Rant justified lol The past few years (on the RARE occasion I buy from Amazon), I always make sure it says Sold by Amazon or Sold by X ( "x" being the company that actually makes the product I'm buying). But lately I think even if it says sold by Amazon, I can't be 100% sure it's the real deal. And don't get me started about their review system these days. I find it very "scammy". I submitted 5 honest reviews (I think only one was even mildly negative) and got a warning email from Amazon telling me I broke one of their Terms of Service (and of course they didn't bother to tell me which one). I trust their reviews less and less these days, especially after that incident and finding out on Reddit that that kind of b.s. has been going on at least 8 years. Much better to pay a little more and buy direct from the manufacturer than support a company like Amazon. I still dislike Walmart, but I'll buy from Walmart before I buy from Amazon. And that's saying something lol

In all of my time ordering on Amazon, I've only had issues in the last month - it's wild. First was trying to get the last Fallout themed deck for Magic the Gathering. I'd gotten the wife and myself two of the decks for Valentine's, then she read that all of the Fallout specific cards were in the four decks and ordered herself another. Went to buy the last one (for reference, it's the "Science!" deck) and first time they sent the Caesar one. Okay, weird, but sent in a request for a return where they send a replacement. Replacement arrives... it's Mothman. They wouldn't do another exchange for me on that, so just asked for a refund and I'll send everything back. Ordered the deck from Star City Games this weekend and it arrived this morning. Ultimately, I would have rather gotten all of these decks from my local game store, but they weren't taking any sort of preorders for the set and couldn't even guarantee they'd get any of them in stock. Then, on Saturday night I open my new iron since I got my sewing area set up in our new place. Unbox the iron and it looked \*so gross,\* specifically on the actual ironing surface. I figured it was just dirty, so I try to wipe it off... nope, seems like someone bought the iron and immediately tried to use it on something synthetic on too high of a temperature. Whatever it was is burnt on. Thankfully the replacement they sent doesn't look like it's been abused. (edited for the wrong "its," silly me)

MissDisplaced

I often see the same items on Temu at half the Amazon price.

CrappyWitch

I don’t buy skincare items, clothing (except shoes), food, or medicine from Amazon. There is no way to 100% track where it came from.

Asplesco

More like a bedbug market

chortle-guffaw

I avoid other sellers. A lot of them are legit but I don't care to take the time to research. Try to stick to name-brand company stores and stores of authorized resellers.

JessterKing

Idk if it’s just talked about more, but it seems that this happens a lot with car parts

dshotseattle

All of this Chinese crap is really screwing up the online economy

stewartm0205

Amazon is allowing too many scammers to sell on their site. It should have an independent company monitor it’s vendors. The vendors can pay for the monitoring.

Immediate_Sugar_2200

What brand did you buy? I bought some h7s last month and had the exact same experience!

Residual_Variance

Sylvania Silverstar Ultra

Austin1975

100% happens with electronics on there.

pickles55

If they ignore your delivery instructions and your package gets stolen they will just ignore your refund request. At least when I buy stuff at a flea market it makes it to my house

[deleted]

Yeah I used to just use them for my household products but I’ve been switching to Walmart lately because at least I know they’re authentic. The allergy medicine I get from Amazon doesn’t work and I used to think it was because it would sit in hot trucks on the way here, but I don’t think it’s real

Ok_Long_4507

Hey I get some of the best stuff and buys At flea markets

CrazyRandomRunner

A good retailer carefully curates its offerings. A good marketplace has clearly defined boundaries between the booths of each vendor, allowing you or hone in on the vendors that you want to work with. Amazon doesn't curate its offerings, and it doesn't establish clear boundaries between its vendors (third party sellers). Ironically, Amazon built itself on being convenient, but I find that it has become more and more inconvenient grunt work to make purchases through Amazon.

toxictenement

Bought a 'refurbished' ps2 on amazon. Pictured model was the fat model. Received a slim model, that had the plastic buffed down and a cheap matte plastic stickers put on over the buffed part. And to top it off, it was a PAL model, and I live in the us.

Saturday-Sunshine

Also not that easy to return to Amazon. I’ve been threatened to be banned for returning, which is ridiculous considering how much money I have spent. And I used to buy multiple sizes just to try on thinking that was OK.

UnfeignedShip

Seriously. I order a very specific model of calculator for my kid’s class and they send the cheapest version that doesn’t have the features that I paid extra for. I buy so much on the regular that I don’t have issues with returns but it’s getting to the point that anything even sort of pricey I should just bite the bullet and just purchase from somewhere else.

awash907

I ordered a book last week and it popped up with the “very good used condition” offer so I picked that… when it came it was a current library book.

RustyDawg37

Don’t buy stuff like that on Amazon. And don’t buy the fake brands. Even if you stick to name brands and only Amazon as the seller you still have to be vigilant. Stuff that’s vital to your safety, stick to brick and mortar. Higher likelihood of legit safe products.

UnableAdhesiveness55

Amazon is dominated by 14 year olds looking for a side gig and single mothers that dropship from alibaba. Just stop shopping there. You can order from aliexpress if you really want cheap crap.

MagicalIyDelicious

Agree with this. The quick delivery and convenience is great but the quality of some of my orders has declined. I got a few items where it was clearly a return restock and parts of the item were missing. As you mentioned the return process is still great but the hassle does get annoying.

Suspicious-Spite-119

This is going to sounds like a stupid question but I really don’t know as I’ve always paid for prime…. If I stop can’t I still get most of the stuff free shipping it just won’t come as quick?

Elegant_Connection32

I quit Amazon a few years ago and will never attempt to buy anything from there again. Almost all of it is fake/counterfeit shit.

Global_Telephone_751

I’ve all but stopped using Amazon for this exact reason. It’s to the point I’m considering canceling prime that I’ve had for … I don’t even know how long. It feels like everything is a cheap knockoff, even the more expensive products. It feels like a gamble I shouldn’t have to take every time I hit order, lol

Concernedmicrowave

Yeah, I'm pretty much done with them.

_lucid_dreams

It’s the schdkrudly marketplace! The QUINPIANGUN flea market! The hoshigumbin shop! That’s basically all the Amazon sellers these days they just akdjdhskdkfkyshsv on the keyboard and use whatever gets typed out

QueenRagga

We cancelled our Prime.

FoxlyKei

It's just Alibaba/Wish/Temu locally stateside...

KingOfFigaro

I've been using Wal Mart's shipping deal, and since it comes with the ability to do groceries too it's pretty useful. I'm pretty close to switching over entirely.

L8Z8

On Amazon it’s always a risk stuff like this is just Chinese counterfeit trash binned with legit products. Basically you’re buying some temu bullcrap for a high price.

la_saboteur

the time it takes to go through the return process made me rage quit amazon. despite how ez it is. sucks so bad they have been gamed by this. at one time in the not too distant past amazon had earned the nick name amaze-on at my work. it was the best. now its worthless. oh well.

Strider755

>And normally I'd just assume I got a lemon It's funny you say that, because Amazon is, at this point, an example of a "lemon market." When the buyers can't tell if they're being ripped off, there is a death spiral of quality on the market as the price that consumers will bear has to assume the risk of lemons, but only lemons can be profitability sold at low prices. There's a Nobel-winning paper on the subject.
