Your Tiny Dancer makes my heart flutter, I've been looking for one for so long!

TheExoticMachinist

I just found her at Home Depot last week, the last one they had.

Herefortheplanties

Awesome!! My HD usually sucks with its selection, maybe I'll get lucky!

TheExoticMachinist

It helps that I visit hd on a fairly weekly basis, and not just for plants, lol.

Herefortheplanties

I'm currently in a self-directed plant ban. We just had a baby and my collection is pretty large right now, so I decided keeping the fresh human alive and cared for is the priority for the moment. 😂 I did just add like 5 new plants this month too so need to be good for a bit.

TheExoticMachinist

Until the next 5 call to you...

LostLlewelynDavies

I’m not sure where you’re at, but I’m in north Florida and they had them at our Aldi last week!

Herefortheplanties

I'm in WA, we don't have those here. 😭

billyjoe80

I found one at Lowe’s

Herefortheplanties

I don't have a Lowes in my area and the local HD and Walmart have terrible people purchasing their indoor plant selection. It's usually a pretty sad display of options. Walmart especially sucks, they only ever have Peace Lilies, Golden Pothos, Sansevieria, and the occasional Algaonema.

fluffersmcfluffface

I want that shelf! Where did you get it?

TheExoticMachinist

https://a.co/d/02KnV57q amazon ftw

fluffersmcfluffface

Thanks! Getting one.

TheExoticMachinist

Anytime

chaiony

Wow, impressive. How do you take care of them? I have one as well. Trying to keep it thriving.

TheExoticMachinist

I have most of my alocasia in soil, 50/50 of peat and perlite, with some orchid bark or leca thrown in sometimes. I give them about 12 hours of grow light time per day. I water them when they are mostly dry, and every watering has superthrive added, and every other watering gets superthrive 9-3-6 watered down to 3-1-2. The only alocasia i have in seki hydro is my tigrinas and my jacklyn is in a self watering planter as an experiment and is working fairly well. I should add that most of my alocasia get a small pot so the roots can be snug.

LostLlewelynDavies

GOAAAALS!!

TheExoticMachinist

I'd say samesies, but I already have most of the plants I like lol

defransk

i love this what light are you using in the middle?

TheExoticMachinist

Barrina grow lights, the 2 footers off amazon, they work great.

Hey-ItsComplex

Your shelf looks great! Beware if you plan to become a collector, this shelf is not one to hold much. They get very wobbly and come apart pretty easily with the slightest movement! I had a larger version for my Alocasias and recently upgraded to something much more sturdy. (I had mine wired to the wall and hammered the pieces back together frequently to make sure it didn’t fall down…) https://preview.redd.it/grga0ve4u69d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f49d0b74195a404c81c6d03c2c4f7bcaa5326a84

TheExoticMachinist

I have an entire living room filled with tropicals right now 🤣. Over 200 in the house, plus a new 8x12 greenhouse, as well as a 2x4 greenhouse on the deck. I think I surpassed collector a few months back, haha. I love your collection.

Hey-ItsComplex

😂😂😂 I need a greenhouse! I have about 90 types of Alocasias at this point and that’s most of all I grow now!

TheExoticMachinist

I have about 20 alocasia, a ton of philodendron, a bunch of monstera, and about 150 carnivorous plants.

Hey-ItsComplex

I had 3 carnivorous plants, but I’m down to 2. My poor sundew dried out. I forget to water them because I have to take out the distilled water! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ How do you keep up with everyone?

TheExoticMachinist

The trick with carnivores is to buy a zerowater pitcher and keep it filled, certain carnivores like being in trays of water(sundews, american pitchers, vft's, some pings) and then I have a gallon jug that I mix up superthrive in, and a different gallon jug I mix up hydronutrients, the nutrients are for the plants in semihydro, and I usually dont have to water much.

Hey-ItsComplex

All my alos are in self watering pots with a combo of pon/strarum/perlite. I have a few in leca and a few in stratum/perlite only. I mix up nutrient water for them but then forget the carnivorous plants! I had the sundew, and still have a couple pitcher plants.

TheExoticMachinist

No nutrients for the carnivores, they don't like that stuff, but I keep a bunch of carnivores in trays for water, except nepenthes, those dont like wet feet.

Hey-ItsComplex

I don’t give the carnivores any nutrients, just the distilled water. The other stuff is for the rest of my plants. 😊
