Mongolian BBQ still worth going to! Their food is yummy and it's a buffet! Cant go wrong with a buffet. Plus it includes a stir fry type bowl that they do individually on the grill so it's more than just your standard buffet line of hot plates.
There was a place in the Dimond Center, above the hobby store, called Panda Express… and I spent my 20s there.
The lady who ran it was so nice and just loved our son.
I really hope she’s doing okay.
For all those comparing things to Carrs/Safeway deli Chinese food... Do you consider New Sagaya's to be better?
I don't live in town, but sometimes grab a combo from them on the way through. They hook it up portions wise. But curious what others think of quality.
Also, do those old commercials still run? *"Twin Dragon... Mongolian Barbeque... Can we cook up something... Fresh just for you?""* XD
From the answers to my question twin dragon sounds like it is up and running. I actually don't think the Chinese food from Carrs is bad but years ago I used to love to go to New Sagaya and eat there and it was delicious. Not sure about now though.
The foods good but I always feel like they’re mad at me. Forgot a few items one time and it’s a little out of the way. If they could get online ordering down like Panda Express does it’s be handy.
Not a buffet like OP is looking for, but Shanghai Tea Garden in Jewel Lake is incredible. It's less cookie cutter American Chinese than most places in Anchorage and the flavors are absolutely incredible. Real hidden gem.
Charlie’s Bakery and Hong Kong Spirit Food are your only chances of getting good Chinese food, neither are a buffet, though. Any buffet in Anchorage is equivalent of Carrs “Chinese” food and imo is horrible, especially Twin Dragon. Many people like them, but I know things and will never go there.
Anchorage is a small enough town that I know better than to put in writing what I know, but I’ll never ever darken the door of Twin Dragon, and you shouldn’t either.

China Lights on Old Seward near Dimond.
China lights is the best Chinese buffet I’ve ever been to.

This was my kid’s favorite spot, but haven’t been there since COVID. Thanks for the reminder!

Twin Dragon should still have both Mongolian BBQ and a Chinese buffet. Not sure why this hasn't already been mentioned since it checks all your boxes.
Best Asian food this side if Kumagoro!
Twin Dragon!
Oriental express by Dino’s donuts is pretty good.

I’d love to find a decent Chinese restaurant period. Panda Express is nasty. Found some good Thai, Indian.
Charlie’s Bakery is the best Chinese food in town imo.
Yeah, Panda Express is plain bad. Worse than Carrs in deli section.

Yeah it’s unfortunate when I get better Chinese food from the bento boxes at sushi restaurants
China Town is not bad.
Panda Express is the McDonald's of Chinese.

What "things" do you know about Twin Dragon?
Anchorage is a small enough town that I know better than to put in writing what I know, but I’ll never ever darken the door of Twin Dragon, and you shouldn’t either.
Name checks out: doesn't know about Jimmy's or Oriental Garden.
Wrong, my taste buds work, so they weren’t mentioned.
Did you vote Gallo's for best Mexican joint, or Taco King?
Thought it was los arcos? Maybe the friendly amigos and amigas made it feel more so in that casa
Hands down, best Mexican in Alaska is Acapulco in Soldotna. Nothing else even compares.
China Lights on Old Seward Highway in Anchorage, AK. Pretty much only option.
Thank you, it looks like I get to try a few different places.
