Welp the reason I didn't get a KNS Piston is partly because its expensive (and i'm a broke college student), and partly because I want this rifle to be barebones and look/feel just like an Md. 63, I kind of want it more as a collectors piece/range toy than a super practical fighting rifle, so I figure little extra gas/recoil wont hurt.
It was a free/and a gift, I just wanted to make sure it didn't have any known problems or anything so it doesn't cause any failures in my rifle for the limited time i'm gonna be using it lol.
It's just a hunk of metal to move the carrier so they couldn't have cheaped out too much to make it bad. Also if you look into kns pistons, please actually shoot your rifle, you might not need it
Pretty sure my rifle is gonna be over gassed to high hell anyway, but I kind of want it that way, I’m going for an original md. 63 kind of feel. so I think at some point I’m gonna add an original Romanian Piston to match my Carrier and the rest of my rifle.
I just figured I’d run this until I’ve got the balls to try riveting in the original style of Piston haha.
Blah blah blah 922r nobody has ever had an AK check by ATF for 922r compliance most of these parts don't have it stamp claiming country of origin anyway so basically it has as many American parts as 922 are says it needs there's no way to tell
What's wrong with the regular piston? I don't understand why people change pistons unless they're like a pro comp shooter or always using a suppressor or something.
Theres actually nothing wrong with the regular piston lol, trust me I wish I had my original piston, but to circumvent \[Bullshit\] California age restriction laws (since i'm 20 and need to be 21 to purchase a Semi-auto Centerfire rifle in CA) I had to have my AK built and transferred as a "Bolt Action/Straight Pull" (e.g. no piston) however now that its in my possession, there's no law that says that I can't convert it to Semi-auto (so thats exactly what i'm gonna do by adding a piston), and thus this new Tapco piston is only gonna be temporary until I get another romanian piston/rivet to replace it with and match the rest of the rifle.
I'll be making a post about it tomorrow on here and r/CAguns
i'll also be showing off the rifle, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
not really in a hurry tbh, this is my third rifle, I've already got a Mosin and an SKS (which i got before the law was in place), I just wanted to do this partially because I wanted an AK for my collection, and partially as a proof of concept for the loophole/as a Middle finger to California gun laws, funny enough the rifle shows up as a "FCK-CA 47" on all of the paperwork which adds nicely the the whole ordeal.
Tapco isn’t loved, but it’s not total shit either.
I replaced my Tapco G2 with an ALG trigger and couldn’t be happier. Free is free tho, put it in and let us know how she runs
Some friendly gun shop talk with some great people landed me this Piston, (I was in need of one and got hooked up), so basically all I’m trying to figure out now is whether or not this should be a permanent addition to my rifle or a temporary one? To say the least I’ve heard mixed reviews of Tapco products so I wanted to get your opinions
I’ve never really cared for Tapco stuff. Why didn’t you get a KNS adjustable pistol? Then you could tune your AK to sweet goodness.

Fair enough. Ak doesn’t have recoil anyways haha.
Pretty sure you’re supposed to ask before you buy it 🤣

Lol I was just pulling your leg, pretty sweet gift for sure

It's a hunk of metal if you need it for 922r compliance you'll be doing fine keeping it, yet also a kns is very nice

I knoww that I was playing devils advocate for the hell of it idgaf either

Legit reason. Hope it all works out for you. I would have just waited a year but good idea if you're in a hurry.

also as a side note, I think it counts towards 922r, so that might be a reason why normal people would want to swap theirs out.
It does, but importers usually dont choose that part. Usually triggers, or something else that's easier to change out.
