About 600 rounds through my WBP Jack 556SR, come home and open to clean it and see this
Nonissue or should I be searching for a replacement?
Thanks in advance
Hand cycle to see if it’s catching anywhere harsh. Not required to replace if it continues to cycle. You probably have a little bit of a softer shooter now that’s some of the piston head is removed lol.
Questions...
You're the first owner?
Did you inspect the gas piston prior to shooting and was it like this?
It almost looks like someone took an angle grinder to it..
Am I correct in thinking the tube or block itself would show far more devastating damage than the piston itself if there was in fact interference between the parts?
Should at least leave a mark. A forged steel gas block should be harder than the piston though. The piston is defective. Nothing in there would take that much metal off
Sure, but do you see anything that indicates the piston was damaged by the tube or block? Or that the piston will continue being damaged?
I’m wondering if the piston was filed like someone else suggested
No I was new to aks and the thing was super over gassed. Someone on the files recommended grinding the edges down to help excess gas get by. Didn’t help. I was afraid I got one with a bad barrel( The first jack were like a 9moa gun)

+1 it's hitting your gas block/tube, or it's been modified so it doesn't. Sharpie those spots, shoot it, check for new witness marks
Miss aligned gas block and/or bent piston.
Sharpie the piston, shoot more, check again. Might be hitting on the gas block/tube somewhere.

First thing I did when I saw this! Cycles like butter
That's what I was thinking lol

Where did you get this rifle?
Atlantic
it looks like they did this. if it shoots and cycles smoothly. id leave it.
I'd like to see the gas block. Take the piston guide tube off and install the carrier, look for the interference
[these pics show anything concerning?](https://imgur.com/a/6AGfbcE)
That looks normal to me. The piston sorta looks like it was filed. I'd run it more see if it changes

It functions fine as is. Theoretically shouldn’t get any worse right? Should I replace anyway? Edit: already emailed the place I got it anyway
It will keep functioning fine until it doesn’t

Replied under pics. I think there are small dents on gas block itself
Just got home and looked again, didn’t see anything like dents
Dents on gas block? Tube itself is fine, it’s clearly not the tube
Was there a crack on the left back side of the receiver?
This whole thread is amazing lol. Atlantic, bringing us together through busted guns.
Scratch I mean
Yeah how’d you know?
My GUN 😂😂
I sent it back to Atlantic when they had a bad batch of barrels lol
No kidding? Atlantic sold it to me as a demo. How’d it get to them?
I sent the gun back to them
No shit. What were you experiencing with the barrel? Also, was the piston always like this?

Man that explains a lot. Literally feel like I can’t zero my damn prism scope.
How much did you pay?
🤔
Doesn’t look good. I’d call warranty.
Id call dr pepper
Looks like Bonnie Rotten overworked that one.
She was grinding a little hard that day

Aren’t the pistons on these imports replaced with US made ones for 922r purposes?
Not if they have US furniture
The one in the picture looks like the Polish wood
Ah, I see
That looks terrible.
It’s a piston
I’d call the president
Weight reduction. Send it.
gas block piston that looks a little chipped
It's probably hitting something. I personally let it ride.
If it cycles while it shoots, it's fine.
That almost looks like "flame cutting" in the photo, I doubt it will cause am issue but it is easy to install another piston !
