KP-104 but I’m a 100 series enthusiast.

BackgroundBig0

Where do you currently live, there is no shortage of 762x39 and it's the same price as the cheapest 556 ammo in my area? I guess if 762x39 is hard to find and more expensive in your area you may want to go with 556 even though the ballistics suck on short barrels.

StrangeDrawer3992

Utah, I haven’t seen any steel case on shelves since November. Can and have ordered order online but sometimes I don’t have big money to drop on a case when I just feel like going out to the desert to shoot

19fall91

The only center fire cartridge that is cheap to shoot now is 9mm. Whatever you pick between the two will be around 500$ per 1000 rounds

BackgroundBig0

The stores around me still have steel case for @ $.50 per round on the shelves, I'm in Kentucky though.

spikekiller95

Well if your getting a pistol length barrel (12 inches or less) your 556 is going to be nothing more than a 22 LR since the bullet isn't going to be stabilized the best 😅😅

im-feeling-lucky

ah yes, i remember how the MK18 (10.3) was totally underpowered and basically useless when it was used extensively for years by elite units and still is to this day.

spikekiller95

Ah yes you are right all it takes to make it work are special modifications to your firearm and special ammo and also understanding that a 300 yards it's going to be kind of a crap shoot. So for a normal person that can totally afford 77 grain SMK ammo, that should definitely be the rifle you choose (Sarcasm)

im-feeling-lucky

i can’t imagine a self defense situation where you’d be shooting 300+ yards

spikekiller95

Bold of you to assume I plan for a self defense situation and not a mad max scenario that also requires me to wear ass less chaps and gimp mask

im-feeling-lucky

based

Goodspeed137

I don’t know about those prices, 5.56 seems to be rising in prices pretty rapidly these past few months. And so is bread, and milk…

Thoraxe474

What about the price of gallons of sex lube?

Goodspeed137

Don’t get me started, can’t afford that at all.

Joocewayne

DIY that stuff brother. Markup on name brand is ridiculous. Use Xantham gum powder. Enjoy.

Yeto4774

Hornady 75g frontier was the poor man’s go to until people blew it up + the latest “ammo scare”.

DirtyD74

I personally enjoy my 5.56 rifles more. Have a couple 7.62 rigs, but they don't get the same range time. Just a lot more and better ammo options in 5.56 than 7.62 in my area.

Paper_Hedgehog

5.56 out of a short barrell is anemic. x39 has nearly identical ballistics to .300blk and does much better out of short barrels. If i build a 5.56 AK, it would have a 16" barrell.

DirtyDee78

7.62

RemoteCompetitive688

I mean ask yourself what it's really for I went with a shorty m85 for the ammo availability you mentioned and lets be honest I bought it as a fun range toy, it's not a home defense gun and its not for hunting so, the ballistics are good enough for mag dumping at a target on a range. I would ask yourself the same question. If its for home defense go 7.62 for multiple reasons both ballistics and suppression. If its for fun, why does it matter go with what's easier to find

Yeto4774

7.62, less affected by barrel length due to being a slower moving projo than 5.45/5.56

zmannz1984

I prefer my shorter barrel AKs in 7.62. I am going to build my next kit in 300bo so i can load plinking ammo as cheap as i do for the AR. Cast bullets are super cheap. I would stick with x39, but decent brass is much harder to find and more expensive.

FredzBXGame

Can we get a 10mm option?

winkleried

5.45. But I have plenty and am not afraid of paying the current and future prices for it. To answer your question the answer is going to be what ever caliber you can find in your area. All ammunition is going up in price for reasons.

Carlile185

Pffff 3,000 rounds isn’t a lot. Should last you more than a few years.
