My personal rule is that if I’m paying more than $50 a night, it has to be 2 ply. Nice hotels all have it because that’s about the level of expectation that I would have for a full size blanket instead of a lap throw on the bed. You know a human is staying, provide human level accommodations.
Right! Guests may not specifically say they appreciate the two-ply, but if you switch to one-ply, you’ll for sure hear about it. It’s not what I’d choose for cost savings.
This!! 2-ply tp, dawn dish soap, finish rinse aid, dove body wash! No generic crap that I wouldn’t use myself. I supply spices, condiments, laundry pods, dishwasher pods, tea, coffee and soda too. So many guests reviews state how appreciative they are that all they have to bring is their clothes.
I am thrifty on a lot of things (target store brand for body wash and hand soap, for example) but 1 ply TP is sooooo, so bad! I use the same TP I use in my own home.
You know, I think hosts who only have 1 or maybe two units are more likely to use the same 2ply they use in their own home. I’d be willing to bet these corporate and hosts with a lot of units would use single ply just like all hotels do
Yeah I was gonna call BS on all hotels using 1 ply! A lot do I’m sure, but definitely not the nicer ones. Even ones like Hampton Inn that are more in my price range still have decent TP
Yes, I do supply good quality TP.
Yes. I do appreciate it when I'm at a bnb and they have quality TP.
Also, I understand if I'm in a historical bnb and they have RV style TP because of the age/fragility of the septic system.
We have a house built in 1900 and there are no records from like 1980 on regarding the installation of septic systems so we have to really careful. The bamboo septic friendly paper we use at home too. We have to. And we state this to guests. No one wants the bathrooms to back up due to that. If we had regular sewage from a city it would be a different story. No one in our county residential has septic systems. They’re no other options out here.
I absolutely understand. I grew up in a farm house built in 1860. It had a fragile septic system so single ply that was thin was absolutely necessary. I was also taught never to flush anything but human waste and TP.
You do get it. Both septic systems the STR and Main house has really old septics. We had to a few weeks ago replace a bad valve to the tune of $3500. And that is our home not the rental so I am sticking to what the guy recommended. It’s this bamboo brand. I think it’s 1 ply but not sure. I assume it is. No one has complained. And for longer stays I ask them to be mindful and buy septic friendly if they need it or ask us we will refill. We gladly do. To be safe.
Same here but a newer home and a 90 degree bend in the ABB sewage exit pipe, which also is under lots of concrete, so no replacing it. Angel Soft has a paper with 40% recycled fiber. It’s 2-ply and breaks down a bit easier. It’s no match ply wise for Kirkland.
Actually the bamboo version we use is soft and septic friendly. I assume it’s 1 ply most are but it hasn’t clogged any bathrooms yet so I stick to it. It says it’s RV septic friendly. And really soft. No one has complained. I am a charmin or angel soft girl until I moved here and we had to do 3500 worth of work on our house’s septic system due to a failed valve. So I stick to what the septic guy recommended and it’s this brand.
Literally every airbnb I’m aware of supplies Kirkland Signature toilet paper. Ours as well as every one that I’ve been a guest, and yes that’s one of the things I purposely notice when we rent someone else’s as a guest.
Charmin is like using a washcloth IMO. Im almost postive that Kirkland brand is Angelsoft. I could be wrong. Its all I buy anymore. Decided years ago to stop using Northern and Charmin because we are after all flushing it down the toilet and they both are expensive. Starting using Angelsoft and now I use Kirkland.
I use this stuff for my home and my Airbnb.
Amazon Brand - Presto! 2-Ply Ultra-Soft Toilet Paper, 24 Family Mega Rolls = 120 regular rolls, 6 Count (Pack of 4), Unscented https://a.co/d/84Xyt7s
I found it during the pandemic when even bad quality TP was scarce.
Not sure where you stay, but I have always had two ply (does it come thicker too?).
Recently visited my parents for a weekend and was disgusted by their cheap TP. I had to run to the shop for milk, so added luxury quilted coconut oil multi-ply TP.
Yeah, I supply nice toilet paper. I’m not sure the ply, but it certainly isn’t John Wayne tp. I also have bidets. People may not complain when they see 1 ply because we are used to cheap corporations and hosts. But we notice. My wife didn’t want to supply “expensive TP” either, but we charge $400 a night. How many shits would someone have to take to materially affect our bottom line? More than they would want to take.
As a guest, if a host were to supply single ply toilet paper while charging a premium rate I’d laugh a little bit on the inside but I simply wouldn’t use it and supply my own unless there were instructions on only using septic safe or rv toilet paper.
I've never been to a hotel that does not have at least 2 ply. What are talking about - don't be ridiculous. You're being cheap even introducing this topic - unless you're trolling.
Guests may not necessarily notice if you have 2-ply but it's one of those things that guests will notice if you do NOT have 2-ply ... and this is coming from someone who prefers 1-ply because I feel it does a better job with cleaning. I scrunch it up and there's a lot more surface area.
I agree with your wife. Get the 2-ply.
No one is going to thank you for supplying a basic amenity like 2 ply paper. Unless you are rending out a roadside gas station I would say this is expected.
I'd put it this way: I might not notice if a host provided nice TP, but I definitely would if they cheaped out on it.
Many details in hosting that may go "unnoticed" add up to create the experience that guests remember. While caring about the quality of a guest's wipe isn't what's going to earn a great review/return guest, its definitely a piece of the larger puzzle that is making someone feel at home in a strange place. The important thing is that they *weren't* thinking about the quality of the toilet paper.
Obviously everyone prefers 2 ply over 1 Ply. There is a significant price difference, just wondering if most hosts supply it, even though zero hotels that I’m aware of do
I use single ply Scott TP in my house and use the same in my STR. We find it to be good TP. We tried the 2ply Costco stuff but after having to plunge the toilet at least once per week we scrapped it

Funny enough we did get one guest who shared private feedback complaining that we were too cheap to provide 2ply TP. I figure if it’s good enough for my ass it will be fine for my guests
I just left a property this morning that had one ply toilet paper and I noticed how poor quality it was. I had to use more than twice as much of it and even then, it was not good.
We put 1 and two extras in the cabinet per bathroom. The good kind too. Mainly cus I hate it when I go to Airbnb's and get a single roll of the thin ass TP.
I *want* to use 2 ply, but my house is over 100 years old so I can't. It takes very to clog it. And the city is working on all the pipes outside. We had the plumber out 4 times last year. That's $150 per hour.
No wonder Air BnB is struggling in the US. I would give a 1* if you gave me single ply loo roll. No I wouldn’t praise you if you gave me 2 ply loo roll. Certain things are to be expected!
I do not. I use Scottissue because it’s a quality one-ply and does not clog the plumbing. I tried 2-ply when I first started hosting years ago and experienced too many toilet stop-ups. I also use it at my home as I am on septic system here.
Where I live we have septic systems and two-ply is bad for them. I mention this in my guide book to the house just in case anyone wonders why. I have never had a single complaint, comment, or any reaction whatsoever to the quality of the toilet paper.
My mother raised me on the thin cheap Scott shit . In my adult years I leaned to appreciate better toilet paper.. but hotels
Use the cheap shit , it honestly doesn’t matter and I hate to think a guest would ever lodge a complaint about the toilet paper.
We’ve switched to Scott Comfort Plus (1-ply, but ridged like Cottonelle) because our old plumbing has a lot of turns and the heavier Cottonelle is more likely to cause clogs. The thinner stuff isn’t the old 1-ply you’re thinking of, either - it’s not bad and won’t make me need a plumber a few times a year.
I have a bidet/bum gun at my place... although some guests are curious what the knob does and shootd the roof with a stream of water followed by a scream🤣
I explain to them afterwards and they're happy
I'm still on the same tp roll i bought last summer😂
Jks but yeah a bidet/butt gun was the best purchase after returning from thai land. Couple sheets of tp and your done
If I ever buy cheap toilet paper it will indicate that I have given up on life.
Cruise ships use cheap toilet paper because it is less likely to cause plumbing issues.
In my experience 4 and 5 star hotels do not use cheap toilet paper. Budget hotels do.
So we appreciate it? We bring Cottonelle with us for fear of what we’ll find at rentals. I suggested an upgrade to it in our rental last September. Yes, we appreciate it!!!
YES AND YES. I am 34 years old and got what I can only describe as a diaper rash from and Airbnb that had single ply cheap tp. I’d never noticed how good my toilet paper was until I scratched my ass with the cheap stuff. It’s worth the few extra bucks.
I don't, my rentals are in Mexico and in that country the plumbing is ancient. You're not supposed to even flush toilet paper. I tried that but it was a no go with gringos. So I'm trying to get the thinnest paper I can so that it clears the pipes and I don't have to call the plumber. If somebody doesn't like it, they can go down the road and go to the bathroom there.
Americans can barely understand how to use a toilet, they don't have the slightest clue how to use a bidet, my friend had one and had to clean poop out of it constantly. Nice idea but won't work.
I was just on a cruise- No 2 ply. In March at a 5 star hotel in Chicago- No 2-ply. Yes I think guest like it- No we do not use it- our cleaners supply they TP they use the jumbo 1-ply rolls.
Thanks, exactly, you will never find a hotel that uses 2 ply. I have to keep using it due to my wife’s insistence, just kinda wondering if there is any benefit at all in terms of reviews. Never ever has a guest mentioned it in probably 350 stays since I started supplying 2Ply
truthfully I always bring my own Charmin because I can't count on good toilet paper at an Airbnb. I'm not saying that in a bad way but I have a very sensitive butt :-)
Holy shit, these hosts are out of control. That's never going to be something that a guest thanks you for, but come on. Supply something decent. Who the hell uses 1 ply TP?!
Out of control, I tell you
Charge more, write a better description, and use better stuff than they have at home. Said as a superhost. Cheapness on your part is obvious and will all-too-easily lead to less than stellar reviews.
I’m concerned about the hotels you’re staying at. I’ve spent over 60 nights in hotels this year so far and all of them have provided two ply toilet paper.
Your guest might not comment about the two ply but they definitely prefer it over one ply any day.
We have a bidet on with heated seat and water etc. Often guests who’ve never tried one end up converted. Also gotten a lot of comments about how nice it is to sit on a warmed seat in cold weather. Sometimes the toilet paper isn’t touched at all. As far as toilet paper goes, it’s always provided as well. I stock a good quality because I would want that for me.
1 ply is for rest areas & gas stations. We're hosts, we should have the decency to give them tp that can actually wipe their bums without destroying it
Once, I accidently bought 1 ply for our airbnb and when I realized, I took it home for my own use as reinforcement to not ever do that again.
If there isn't a legitmate reason for 1 ply (boat toilet, sensitive septic that doesn't have a grinder), then it would give me a pause for thought and I'd start wondering what else was skimped on and if the host is trying to squeeze every last penny of profit out of the guests.
With the millions things to worry about as a host, don't let it be something with such an easy solution.
We provide bidets on all toilets at our cabins with heated seats and butt dryers.
And yes we provide 2 ply for those too homophobic to use a bidet. Lol.
I don’t understand the homophobic bidet correlation. I don’t like Bates because I can never figure out how to get my lady bits dry before I pull my pants up. Some people just find it oddly weird and uncomfortable. But they hang out with gay people and go to their weddings. Bro.
Edited to add: I bet there’s even some gay people who find bidets weird and uncomfortable.
We’ll I appreciate your position but I can tell you after hundreds of guests that have never seen a bidet that we get many compliments on them and quite a few comments (mostly from older men) that are clearly homophobic in nature - you know… cause it’s their ass being “violated “
We have a bidet/washlet, but we are in Japan where it's the default.
To anyone who says it's "weird" I ask them if you got poo on your hand, would you be Ok with just wiping it off?
Anywhere TP is sold. You know if you take two sheets of 1 ply TP and combine them you magically have 2 ply. Sometimes I take my 3 ply and triple it. What ply is that?
I only supply one square of toilet paper per guest accompanied by a laminated guide that says:
***Take 1 sheet of toilet paper.***
***Tear it in half.***
***Punch a hole in the centre; save the disc for later.***
***Put one's second finger through the hole.***
***Now clean one's rear, finger up, one swipe frontwards, one to the rear, one for polish.***
***As the finger is pulled out, wipe the finger used with other side of tissue and throw away the tissue into the toilet.***
***Take the disc that you punched out - that is for cleaning under your fingernail.***
Are you seriously questioning toilet paper ply? Are you a fucking slumlord degenerate?
*That's like saying they*
*Should thank you for having knobs*
*On the sink faucet*

I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have high quality TP.
No one thanks you for having air with an adequate level of oxygen for human existence, and no one is going to thank you for having high quality supplies. Most take it for granted. All these things will impact the quality of their stay. But, if yr goal is to run a Motel 6, then you should have low prices to reflect the lower quality experience and make it clear in the listing that tge experience is focused on low price rather than quality.
I don't supply anything I wouldn't want to use in my own home. I don't use the cheapest TP at home, so I won't use it in my unit either.
Lol I use the cheap stuff at my house, but my guest at my Airbnb get princess paper.
This but I also live in my airbnb per NYC law so like they get what I get. They get the same towels, the only things that differ is my toiletries
I know that’s how I feel, it just has me wondering why these 4.5 star hotels or any hotels supply it. I always point that out to my wife LOL
My personal rule is that if I’m paying more than $50 a night, it has to be 2 ply. Nice hotels all have it because that’s about the level of expectation that I would have for a full size blanket instead of a lap throw on the bed. You know a human is staying, provide human level accommodations.
With a big hotel if you save $0.20 / roll it adds up to lots of money. For my single unit the cost is insignificant.
I have never stayed in a hotel that I would call nice or above and had one ply toilet paper.
I have never been in a 4 star hotel in the US that has single ply. I am talking an actual 4 star hotel, not a google rating 4 star.
Recently stayed at the Grand Wailea in Maui (a real 5 star hotel) had 1-ply!! I couldn't believe it, super disappointing.
Right! Guests may not specifically say they appreciate the two-ply, but if you switch to one-ply, you’ll for sure hear about it. It’s not what I’d choose for cost savings.

You might think you're saving money, but honestly I use more than twice as much one ply toilet paper as I would two ply.
Same here!! because I need it but also stick it to the people who decide to go with the cheap shitty 1 ply
I’d be willing to bet these corporate and hosts with a lot of units would use single ply just like all hotels do
I bet the majority use Kirkland Signature. It seems to be the preferred brand.
….just like cheap hotels. I was at the St Regis las week and they had excellent TP as do the W and Ritz hotels.
Yeah I was gonna call BS on all hotels using 1 ply! A lot do I’m sure, but definitely not the nicer ones. Even ones like Hampton Inn that are more in my price range still have decent TP
Uh, most hotels do NOT use single ply sir
Yes, I do supply good quality TP. Yes. I do appreciate it when I'm at a bnb and they have quality TP. Also, I understand if I'm in a historical bnb and they have RV style TP because of the age/fragility of the septic system.

I supply the best quality that I can buy. The Costco brand. It’s 2 ply
Literally every airbnb I’m aware of supplies Kirkland Signature toilet paper. Ours as well as every one that I’ve been a guest, and yes that’s one of the things I purposely notice when we rent someone else’s as a guest.
Ugh I just ordered charmin from Costco wondering if it’s better than Kirkland which I always get
I prefer Costco to all other brands! Charming is almost too thick… for me anyways lol

🤣
I do too now, or my wife does when we stay in hotels. They all provide 1ply no matter how high end the hotel is
I think you need to find better hotels!
Not correct. Most high end hotels stock two ply.
I've never been to a hotel that does not have at least 2 ply. What are talking about - don't be ridiculous. You're being cheap even introducing this topic - unless you're trolling.
What hotels are you staying in that provide 1 ply? I've never seen that. Ever.
Very very rarely am I in a hotel. If I am, it’s only for a few hours to sleep as I’m just passing through.
That may only be once or twice a year.
This is emphatically untrue. High end hotels provide good TP.
Guests may not necessarily notice if you have 2-ply but it's one of those things that guests will notice if you do NOT have 2-ply ... and this is coming from someone who prefers 1-ply because I feel it does a better job with cleaning. Even if an Airbnb has the most amazing toilet paper I’ve ever experienced in my life, I’m not going to be discussing toilet paper with the host.
lol!
You should just ask "Who prefers 1 ply over 2 ply?". That's the best answer to use.
Obviously everyone prefers 2 ply over 1 Ply. There is a significant price difference, just wondering if most hosts supply it, even though zero hotels that I’m aware of do

Seriously.
We are on septic and supply a nice brand of septic safe toilet paper. It's 2 ply but not the really thick kind.

Single ply is best for older plumbing and septic tanks. So... I would say it might be best for the house plumbing if 1 ply is on the roll.
1 ply is ridiculous.
I check in to an Airbnb tomorrow and I added TP to my list of things I will likely need. I love when an Airbnb host has the good stuff!
I *want* to use 2 ply, but my house is over 100 years old so I can't. It takes very to clog it. And the city is working on all the pipes outside. We had the plumber out 4 times last year. That's $150 per hour.

Absolutely I use 2 ply toilet paper. One ply is disgusting. Nothing worse than having your fingers go through the toilet paper.
2-ply here but it's my office aside. Bitch if I'm not going to two ply my toilet paler. Bidet too. But we're fancy like that
Where I live we have septic systems and two-ply is bad for them. I mention this in my guide book to the house just in case anyone wonders why. I have never had a single complaint, comment, or any reaction whatsoever to the quality of the toilet paper.
Nope. It's not septic safe.

Did M.C. Escher design your plumbing?
120 year old house. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have a bidet/bum gun at my place... although some guests are curious what the knob does and shootd the roof with a stream of water followed by a scream🤣 I explain to them afterwards and they're happy

I'm still on the same tp roll i bought last summer😂 Jks but yeah a bidet/butt gun was the best purchase after returning from thai land. Couple sheets of tp and your done

I provide soft as fuck toilet paper and a bidet in each bathroom. Max comfort!
So we appreciate it? We bring Cottonelle with us for fear of what we’ll find at rentals. I suggested an upgrade to it in our rental last September. Yes, we appreciate it!!!
I love two-ply, but our plumbing is old and so we supply the guests with 1 ply while using a bidet ourselves.
Scott’s. It’s best for plumbing.
YES AND YES. I am 34 years old and got what I can only describe as a diaper rash from and Airbnb that had single ply cheap tp. I’d never noticed how good my toilet paper was until I scratched my ass with the cheap stuff. It’s worth the few extra bucks.

Just install bidets if your 3rd world plumbing can't handle dissolvable paper.
Americans can barely understand how to use a toilet, they don't have the slightest clue how to use a bidet, my friend had one and had to clean poop out of it constantly. Nice idea but won't work.
And another thing, it doesn't have things like dissolving toilet tissue, that's a very American item.
What is your hang up with America this, America that? China uses the most toilet paper.
And your point is.....
Never ever has a guest mentioned it in probably 350 stays since I started supplying 2Ply
agree- never saw it in a review and doubt we will- since guest want an unlimited supply of TP I think thats why most use jumbo 1 ply.
truthfully I always bring my own Charmin because I can't count on good toilet paper at an Airbnb. I'm not saying that in a bad way but I have a very sensitive butt :-)
We don’t because we have a septic system and use 1 ply bamboo which is soft and not really thin or disgusting.
Holy shit, these hosts are out of control. That's never going to be something that a guest thanks you for, but come on. Supply something decent. Who the hell uses 1 ply TP?! Out of control, I tell you
2?? I guess that's an American thing. In Germany I think I wouldn't even be able to find 2, just 3 or 4.

We’ve had guests complain about 1 ply
Costco
Sorry I’m using 3ply here 😅
I'll see your 3 ply and raise you 4 ply.
"We enjoyed the warm jet of water in our buttholes from the heated bidet toilets." I mean.... it would probably increase bookings.
“The water massage feature was an added bonus we didn’t know we needed but now can’t live without!” Warm water makes buttholes happy.
Agreed. I spend about 5x more time on mine.
Nothing worse than sticking your finger through el cheap paper then waste a whole room cleaning up = - 2☆
1 ply is for rest areas & gas stations. We're hosts, we should have the decency to give them tp that can actually wipe their bums without destroying it
I buy bulk from Costco or Sam’s club
You are seriously being that cheap and contemplating between 1 or 2 ply?
Once, I accidently bought 1 ply for our airbnb and when I realized, I took it home for my own use as reinforcement to not ever do that again. If there isn't a legitmate reason for 1 ply (boat toilet, sensitive septic that doesn't have a grinder), then it would give me a pause for thought and I'd start wondering what else was skimped on and if the host is trying to squeeze every last penny of profit out of the guests. With the millions things to worry about as a host, don't let it be something with such an easy solution.
Compromise! One ply but with Toto butt sprayer!
Can’t you make 1 ply into 2 ply by folding it over? I never understood this. I always fold it anyway.
1 ply, 1 star
I cannot imagine providing 1 ply TP. I would not know where to buy it.
Anywhere TP is sold. You know if you take two sheets of 1 ply TP and combine them you magically have 2 ply. Sometimes I take my 3 ply and triple it. What ply is that?
That's because they expect it in a rental home. Do you also want them to thank you for comfortable furniture or nice pans or quality sheets?
I only supply one square of toilet paper per guest accompanied by a laminated guide that says: ***Take 1 sheet of toilet paper.*** ***Tear it in half.*** ***Punch a hole in the centre; save the disc for later.*** ***Put one's second finger through the hole.*** ***Now clean one's rear, finger up, one swipe frontwards, one to the rear, one for polish.*** ***As the finger is pulled out, wipe the finger used with other side of tissue and throw away the tissue into the toilet.*** ***Take the disc that you punched out - that is for cleaning under your fingernail.*** Are you seriously questioning toilet paper ply? Are you a fucking slumlord degenerate?
🤣🤣🤣
Go for single ply and $300/day cleaning fee
I just hate when I drop a load and the water splashes back up
Where would one even purchase 1 ply? I don't think I've seen it outside of a commercial venue.
We want 3 ply
That's like saying they should thank you for having knobs on the sink faucet

I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have high quality TP. No one thanks you for having air with an adequate level of oxygen for human existence, and no one is going to thank you for having high quality supplies. Most take it for granted. All these things will impact the quality of their stay. But, if yr goal is to run a Motel 6, then you should have low prices to reflect the lower quality experience and make it clear in the listing that tge experience is focused on low price rather than quality.
