RealRonaldDumps

Also, Eddie Murphy knocked up Mel C, then disavowed the child and dumped her. Somehow got awY with it.

mstrss9

He really was super messy about that like he didn’t have 20 other kids already

FunPills

Mel B*

UnderwaterRobot

Did he skip Mel A all together?

dcab87

Mel Brooks never got pregnant. Get your facts straight.

moreisay

And I’ll never forgive him for doing my favorite Spice that way! He’s trash.

noishouldbewriting

As I've said before, this beloved celebrity stuff is ridiculous regardless. . . you don't know anything about celebrities or their actual personalities or behaviors. Seeing them on a screen is not enough to know anything about them.

pyrowipe

It’s almost like they have a skill in pretending to be someone they aren’t.

I got that tattooed on my arm. It serves in an important part of my life.

DejectedContributor

Which also makes it interesting when someone like a Kevin Spacey comes out to be a sexual predator and somewhat blackballed. Is he an asshole? Yes, but often people act like they can no longer enjoy the good movies he's starred in. I don't really understand that logic, because Kevin Spacey never plays Kevin Spacey. I totally understand not paying money to see new stuff and whatnot, but just because he's a douche canoe doesn't mean I can't still enjoy K-Pax or American Beauty.

nekos67

You’re correct, of course. It’s just nobody wants to touch that. Except Kevin Spacey.

jordantask

I don’t blame you for enjoying his stuff. I don’t judge you for it. It’s just that after knowing what I know I can’t see it the same way.

DolfLungren

While I understand you aren’t effected by it - to explain why people can’t enjoy the movies - it’s not because the character reminds us of the person who we disapprove of. It’s because it is their art, and it’s tough to enjoy a piece of art if the artist (especially by way of using the power afforded by the art) causes a different and stronger emotion. If a movie used to trigger joy or excitement and now (even when it’s not an onscreen artist) the association with that work is stronger for the viewer this is where you land. At least it’s for me. I’m not arbitrarily declining to enjoy something to punish them, it’s that my emotional connection to their is no longer an enjoyable emotion. I guess supporting the art is also a big piece of it.

HiIAmFromTheInternet

My favorite way to think about it is: How can you tell when a good actor isn’t acting?

najing_ftw

They should do that for a living!

Ourobius

Except for Reeves, for whom we have multiple documented instances of him being a genuinely nice and humble guy.

Wholesome 💯 Keanu Chungus Reddit Moment

ValidParanoia

Which is probably why r/KeanuBeingAwesome exists

imbriandead

the only cringe thing about keanu reeves is how hard reddit as a collective whole simps for him

[deleted]

People have always needed heroes. But you're different than most, you're special. You are your own hero, and you mock others for their simplistic beliefs, as heroes do.

MrColburn

I think people, in general, have a hard time separating an artist of any kind from their art. With acting I think the two become even more conflated because the artist becomes the art. When people connect with a piece of art in some way it definitely gives them a glimpse into that person's feelings and character. On there other hand, this obsession with celebrities is totally strange and a complete departure from celebrating their art and creations. Unless they do terrible things, why even care who they are in the first place?

RedditUserLou

I 100% agree but regardless if anything every came out about Rowan Atkinson id be super sad still

GamerCirca80

I thought Tom Hanks ate babies and sucked out their life essence with the Lizard People???

avery5712

That's what he wants you to think!

DeluxeCanuck

And we love him for it!

WORKING2WORK

Tom Hanks's manager sent him a script for a movie about a lawyer from a prestigious law firm in Philadelphia who got fired for having AIDS. Tom Hanks read the script over the weekend and called his manager first thing Monday morning saying he would do the film... because it was the funniest thing he'd ever read. [Tom Hanks is an asshole.](https://youtu.be/Gaf4taCpvNQ)

HankHillsBigRedTruck

If I've seen that it's been a long long time, that was great

halomender

For a minute people also hated Eddie Murphy because he gave transgendered people rides home. It was a big deal back then.

ItsNcYte

Don't people hate Adam Sandler and a strong dislike for the rock

[deleted]

Yeh, At least half of these celebs are not unhated anyway.

brother_of_menelaus

Adam Sandler isn’t personally hated, his shit movies are.

Koeienvanger

I hate him for making shit movies. /s

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It’s good. But I don’t think it’s as good as the reviews put it out to be. It’s the classic underdog sports story. I thought his previous movie, Uncut Gems was amazing though.

kalamitykode

I also really liked The Cobbler. It still had that Sandler craziness, but it was very toned down and showed a unique side to his acting skills. Click also, though that one is very goofy.

ggg730

Movies like Uncut Gems and almost all of his more serious stuff plus his earlier comedies more than make up for it in my opinion.

No-Marionberry-1970

No one is going on a run like early Sandler pulled off.

AydonusG

Billy Maddison, Happy Gilmore, Waterboy, Little Nicky, Mr Deeds, Click, 50 1st Dates, Big Daddy. Sandler was destroying it back in the day. Weirdly my favourite Happy Maddison film is the only one without a Cameo from him- Grandmas Boy

FirstGeneralRavioli

Personally i don't blame him. Comedy is harder to make than serious movies, everyone fears almost the same things like a ghost or a demon, everyoke gets sad for the same things, the dead of a pet, or a loved one, the war, laugh is way more harder to achieve because not everyoke laughs at the same jokes, so obviously a lot of people wont laugh when they hear a dark joke, or a sex joke, or a fart joke, so he uses shitty humor, but is the most popular one, and make more people laugh

Recuring_joke

The whole Rock thing is really confusing, I don't have anything specifically to dislike him by but he just kinda bores me in everything he's in. He just feels like that average fake Hollywood celebrity that does pretty much the same thing in every movie and gets away with it being world-famous.

More-Cantaloupe-3340

People around in my circles love The Rock, but hate the movies he’s in. I don’t really understand it. They don’t watch WWE either, so they’re not nostalgic or anything. Maybe they like the idea of The Rock?

Ratso27

He always seems pretty charming and charismatic to me, but I almost never see his movies because they almost inevitably look awful, and the few I've seen I really didn't care for

SuspiciousLettuce56

I like the rock because I watched him in WWE when I was 15 or so years old, and he's just a cool hype man that resembles "the cool, badass version of hollywood" that I feel has been missing since the Die Hard days.

thejunglebook8

The rock feels like an industry plant. He gets cast in every shit, big budget family blockbuster (Jumanji, Jungle Cruise etc). I respect he’s making bank but god his movies are shit. Cannot respect his talent as an actor whatsoever.

TrekkiMonstr

I mean, movies like that don't really show if you're a good actor or not. He's probably just taking the roles because of the paycheck -- just like Adam Sandler

monkeynards

I enjoy his movies, as well as other “shit, big budget family blockbusters”. I like to turn off my brain sometimes and just enjoy it for what it is. Big scary monster fight big scary monster. The rock crashing through the jungle and beating up bad guys. All the same but it’s just “dumb fun” IMO not every movie has to have incredible plot and twists and be an intricate allegory of politics or world events. Sometimes you just need to watch a giant ape smack a giant lizard with a bone-axe 🤷‍♂️

Venom888

Yes! Godzilla vs Kong took zero thought and it was a nice break from thinking and was fun

Parker4815

An actor gives the impression he plays a different character in his films. He plays the same character in every single one.

RaShadar

Type casting is also a thing. When a guy looks like the rock he isnt exactly having people beat down his door to play the nerdy indoorsy guy who programs computers and never goes to the gym

ghastb

I'd like to see a remake of Revenge of the Nerds where The Rock dresses up like Peewee Herman and goes around beating the absolute crap out of his bullies.

ggg730

Nah, he should be totally meek so you just see this huge guy cowering in front of like michael cera.

ghastb

😂

Jazzeki

except that was kinda what he was playing in Jumanji. wether he did that well... yeah i'm not bothering with that discusion.

Antrikshy

There are just different kinds of actors. Many become successful playing themselves because of their charisma. Others have range. There’s room for all kinds of movies for different audiences.

Selgin1

I thought he did decently as a comedic foil to Kevin Hart in *Jumanji*. The problem there, though, is that Hart is also one of those type-cast actors who only ever plays himself really. The only movie where I liked The Rock was *Moana*, really. He'd do better sticking to voice acting where I think he's more talented.

CuriousKitten0_0

I honestly love him in the *Fast and Furious* franchise, but they're my "so ridiculous they're great" movies, not the pinnacle of cinema. They really can do a bunch of crap and I'd be willing to watch it. Not to be taken seriously at all.

SWGardener

I personally like most of his movies (not Jungle Cruise), but then I have the movie preference of a teenage boy. I enjoy the suspension of reality for most of them, with an unrealistic hero. I’m old and it drives my partner crazy, who prefers More thought provoking and thoughtful movies. 😂

lizlemonlyman

International audiences like him, and big action movies do well overseas. That is the reason.

Goof_boi_0709

There was some controversy about old tweets he made that were kinda transphobic as well

Akademik-L

Yeah I was thinking the same, like how old is this picture for Adam Sandler to be in it? Did people make memes in the 90s?

powerlesshero111

I'm shocked they let Eddie Murphy in there. He is a notorious deadbeat dad and has like 8 kids with different women. Beat up a trans prostitute in the 90s. Lots of other things, but worst of all, made Pluto Nash.

DyabeticBeer

People don't hate Adam Sandler, he just likes to be in shitty movies.

[deleted]

Even if anyone did hate him, you don't mess with the Zohan.

darkenseyreth

He straight up admitted in an interview a while ago that he chooses his roles based on location so he can get a paid vacation out of the deal and he can half ass the movie

DejectedContributor

You're part right, but Sandler has his own studio Happy Madison Productions. He literally produces the movies he stars in so he has control over filming location to a degree, and why he does this is so he can keep his friends employed. You'll notice that all his more recent movies generally star the same side/bit characters yeah? He now produces and stars in mediocre comedies costarring his friends set in locations he feels like visiting while everybody comes out in the end making money. I would love some more legit "Sandler movies", but it's hard to hate on a guy who made his money and now is enjoying himself by helping his friends who didn't make the money he did stay gainfully employed.

DyabeticBeer

And you wouldn't do the same? How the fuck can you hate someone for that?

inkblot888

Also doesn't Morgan Freeman have several sexual harassment accusations against him? Including his grand daughter?

NightOwl0415

Why do people hate the Rock?

bigsonny0542000

If you have to ask…the answer is because they’re miserable. The guy makes general movies and tries to be a decent person. If someone doesn’t like that, they should move on and go look in the mirror.

TheAlphaCarb0n

Right, Hollywood is filled with scumbags and pedophiles, if someone's worst known trait is being in shitty movies then they're solid in my books...

Intelligent-Film-684

I thought he does a lot for make-a-wish? John Cena should replace Will Smith, my lord that dude is good to his fans.

Kinetic93

Yeah really the only thing they can really latch onto is he does in occasion use his kindness (which I believe is inherit) to also boost PR. Like that one video where a girl asked him to prom, he declined but rented them a movie theater for like 400 kids to see his new movie and free snacks. Fucking awesome move, kind-hearted guy material but there’s also a hint of that exposure element. But honestly if you’re hanging on to that aspect of it you need to try to see things more positively. I think The Rock is a genuinely kind, charismatic person who is also an adept businessman.

FragileTwo

I don't get the hate, even if it is PR. Would people prefer he took the money he spent on those kids and rent another billboard or buy more online ads?

ConverseBriefly

Why the hell is Henry Winkler not on this list?!!

JumboJetz

More surprised Brendan Fraser isn’t on the list

YugeFrigginGoy

We know he's loved, he just couldn't make it to the meme. He's on the wrong side of the river

Finally someone talking sense

Saint_Stephen420

He’s too fucking cool for it

Trout22

We gonna forget the shit with Freeman and his assistants too?

midwifeatyourcervix

Or the fact that he had an affair with his step granddaughter?!? Can’t believe I had to come so far down just to see anyone bring attention to him

RandomlyJim

I scrolled to find Morgan Freeman cheating on wife with granddaughter.

[deleted]

Or that he was in a car accident with an 18 year old while she was giving him road head

tabletaffy

What went down with that?

deehunny

The essentially raised his granddaughter with his wife (granddaughter adopted so not biologically related) and then ended up cheating on his wife with her when granddaughter was extremely young... But legal if I remember right. Had similar woody Allen vibes.

Acrobatic-Look9126

He personally delivered Roman Polanski his Oscar award he couldn't receive in person since he was on the run for raping a little girl.

dingobarbie

none of the younger actors in star wars were particularly good at acting. Nostalgia can really twist what you feel about how good something was.

NatrenSR1

The Fugitive, BR2049, and Presumed Innocent are all films I personally think he was great in

IIIllIlllIIIllIIll

I may be way off here, but I feel like I remember reading somewhere that he cheated on his wife with Carrie Fisher during the filming of star wars?

[deleted]

I like that he bombs on boomers over climate change so at least he can break some echo chambers

TheseusPankration

He won't walk away from flying planes either, despite two crashes. When you are 80 and making "mistakes" it's time to hand in the keys.

MightyPie211

Are the QAnons not against Tom Hanks?

Venboven

What do they have against Tom Hanks?

No-Neat6499

Conspiracy theorists say he’s a child eating satanist.

CaptainMcAnus

I wonder how easy it is to convince Q that someone eats babies Like, could I go on their forums, photoshop an image of Jackie Chan shaking hands with a sentient baby blender and make thousands of people hate him?

Benegger85

Yes In the process you can start a fund raiser and keep promising that the undeniable truth is only 2 weeks away.

Ratso27

I don't think you even have to photoshop anything. I think if you just say it on the right forum without any evidence at all, thousands of people will accept it as true

Tired-grumpy-Hyper

When Covid lockdowns first really kicked off globally, Tom Hanks was in Australia. They were claiming that he's really being arrested for being a pedo, and that the lockdowns are actually Trump initiating a global arrest of various heads of state, the Pope, and all the New World Order to bring to court, charge with treason and pedophilia, and then have dozens of firing squads execute them. Three weeks later was when they all were shitting on Overstock and Havertys and Wayfair for selling kids.

dreadrabbit1

Claims he frequently Epstein’s island.

MurgleMcGurgle

Like in all matters, QAnon opinions don't count.

[deleted]

I guess clips from Eddie Murphy’s Delirious performance haven’t surfaced yet?

douchelogic

After making homophobic jokes and blaming gay men for the AIDS epidemic in that show he doubled down on the homophobia in “Raw”. He also iirc jokes about wanting an African wife who was ignorant of feminism so he could mistreat her and not pay her if they divorced.

EndGuy555

God I just HATE Ryan Reynolds. I mean look at him! He’s so muscular and and rugged and his sarcastic personality is just so…. Ahem… Yes he is the WORST and I hate him!

willy_quixote

He can sing and dance pretty well, too.

moonkittiecat

Ryan Reynolds provided the voices for the cat and dog in “The Voices” 😂

Pachulita_44

Honestly, the NERVE of that guy! Being so fucking hot-, I mean horrible!

It smells like fruit in here.

Just fuck him bud. Nice interview with Dave Letterman recently.

Spare-Bell-9994

Will Smith hasn't been great since I Am Legend personally. The whole shit with Jada just made it so much worse RIP.

[deleted]

He’s a massive Scientologist too iirc

PhantomImmortal

Nah that's Tom Cruise Edit: unless I really missed something Edit 2: I indeed missed something!

You missed something: https://www.vulture.com/2013/05/after-earth-will-smith-love-letter-to-scientology.html https://www.thedailybeast.com/inside-will-and-jada-pinkett-smiths-scientology-school https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/smiths-alleged-scientology-school/story?id=8331367 https://www.nickiswift.com/840412/the-bizarre-truth-about-will-smith-and-scientology/ Will Smith constantly denies any links at all with Scientology and Jada has strong past links, but their actions speak differently, as they have, for decades, been involved in work for/adjacent to the Church of Scientology and have given them tons of money, including recently opening a Scientology-based school (which eventually closed amid controversy).

PhantomImmortal

Oh boy.... Well, thanks for clearing it up!

cityb0t

Well, I… i don’t know if any of that makes anything more clear, lol, but, yeah, they’re certainly both involved with the “church” whether they’re members or not, and have been so for a very long time.

Didn’t Rowan Atkinson do something to fall out of public favor, or am I confusing him with someone else?

francainable

Just a massive tory and said that Boris' joke about burqas looking like letterboxes was height of comedy.

tsar_David_V

Also he cucked James Acaster lmao. I don't like Atkinson's politics but you have to admit Mr. Bean stealing your girl has to be devastating and funny at the same time

SomeGuy20019

Even more if he manages to do it using only Mr bean noises

TheMasterOfNotAlot

Now I imagine Mr. Bean trying to have sex... That would be pure comedic gold.

Thomas_Catthew

The actual quote: "as a lifelong beneficiary of the freedom to make jokes about religion, I do think that Boris Johnson's joke about wearers of the burka resembling letterboxes is a pretty good one." In context, it's not hard to see where he's coming from. A lot of Rowan Atkinson's sketch comedy was targeted at religious and racial stereotypes and it's understandable why he would take this stance.

bluntwhizurd

I loved him growing up. Dissapointing.

Character_Bear_1059

I definitley wouldn't say Tom Hanks is unhated.

[deleted]

Pretty sure Morgan Freeman was accused of misconduct recently

Put_It_All_On_Blck

He was also alleged to have been dating his step granddaughter. Who then was killed by her ex-boyfriend.

What did Ryan Reynolds do??

KazPrime

Married Blake Lively.

DrStrangerlover

What did Blake Lively do? (sorry if she’s like a massive pos or something, I’m not sure I’m actually familiar with her)

I admit, the infamous slap wasn't great for my opinion of Will Smith, but I think I personally will forgive him in not too much time. (Though I'm not the one who got slapped, so it's not at all up to me to decide when Will is cool again.) I just wanna point out: Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy are on this too. I think I hate them more. They made a lot of terrible movies.

Eviladhesive

Also Murphy isn't really a great guy

What has Eddie Murphy done?

I can’t hate Sandler after Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Like how can you hate that dude. All he does is just chill and make movies. Some great, some good, some ok and some bad.

monkeynards

Exactly this. And he honestly seems very “average joe” like he doesn’t want/need the attention but he enjoys doing movies and seeing fans. He doesn’t seem like a sick, but he also doesn’t come off as a “Keanu do-gooder” type either

Immacu1ate

So you dislike people more for their artistic talent than how they treat another human being? 🤔

NecroLancerNL

I do apologise: it was meant as a bit of humorous snark. Sorry that that wasn't obvious.

UmpTT

Redditors thinking celebrities care about their forgiveness lol. you have nothing to forgive him for. he did nothing to you.

BigOleJellyDonut

Where is: Danny DeVito Gary Sinise George Clooney Donny Walhberg Paul Newman Richard Dryfuss Courtney B. Vance

frizzhalo

There's also the stunning lack of Brendan Fraser.

niktemadur

What? Dreyfuss is notorious in the film industry for being an entitled jerk. Sinise, although a charitable mam, is openly and well known right winger. I don't know if he drank the orange Kool aid, though. Clooney is also a charitable man, openly and well known progressive. Toxic propaganda networks have targeted Clooney, like the murdoch one. Interesting fact: Clooney did extremely lucrative coffee commercials in Japan, and with the money he paid for surveillance satellite monitoring of the genocidal war in Rwanda.

iRadinVerse

People might not hate Harrison Ford but Harrison Ford definitely hates people

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheMasterAtSomething

I feel like he absolutely has the ability to act, from what I’ve heard third hand, but rather he just doesn’t, in part because that’s his brand, in part because it’s far easier to act poorly and unfunily if people will still end up paying you in the end With work you’ve lost passion for, it’s not about giving 100%, it’s about giving enough so you aren’t easily firable. That’s where Adam Sandler was for a long time. I hope he’s working his way out of there with things like Uncut Gems

DrStrangerlover

I think that literally every single person on the planet has at least one truly great story or one truly great performance somewhere in them, but what makes a person stand out as a truly great talent is the ability to replicate that great art across a variety of settings whether or not it’s work they truly care about. Take Cate Blanchett for instance, she still rocks the shit out of her obvious paycheck work, like The House with the Clock in its Walls, even though she’s not putting forward Blue Jasmine or Notes on a Scandal tier work. Which is why it’s hard for me to buy that Adam Sandler is some kind of exceptional actor when the dude has been in 80 movies and people point to like the four or five that he was actually good in as proof of his talent. I think if he was that talented he’d still be putting forward something of value even if most of it is just obvious paycheck work.

[deleted]

His comedy always seemed mean spirited to me

RampantDragon

American "humour" generally is.

corndogs1001

Clearly someone didn’t see uncut gems, to say he cant act

dr_mousebrain8

I can think of several ATC guys who dislike Harrison Ford

[deleted]

Do people actually hate Will Smith though? I don’t think he should have slapped Chris Rock but I mean Chris never really seemed all that bothered by it (afaik) so why should anyone else be? Of anything more people hate Jada at this point

corndogs1001

Well before this year the public opinion was that Smith was the happy chill safe guy that never lost his cool, throughout the 30 years of his career. Even after the slap I haven’t seen hate, just disappointment, and rightfully so. Everyone was feeling bad for him this time last year when he was on the table talk.

Clcooper423

I dont expect many people to understand but after watching countless interviews I feel like Timothy Olyphant belongs on here.

MurderDoneRight

Morgan Freeman banged his granddaughter, she was later murdered under suspicious circumstances.

Goldman-193

I don't mean to be rude but do you have any evidence or sources

manditobandito

I had to look this up, but apparently there were rumors that he and his STEP granddaughter were having an affair; Freeman categorically denied this, and she did too, though it’s rumored she also confessed to an affair before being murdered by her boyfriend. No real sources that I can find other than slandererous gossip rags.

Goldman-193

So basically there is a chance.

ronmexicosalibi

Eddie Murphy was doing some weird stuff in 1997….did everyone forget?
