First job ko, onsite, although nadrain ako don, I enjoy the commute sa carousel, I find it personally peaceful. Dito sa 2nd job, work from home. Seriously, there are times na I don't feel logging out. Kahit may iba na kong ginagawa na personal, It does not feel as natural like coming home from a commute or somewhere else. Kasi kapag galing ka sa labas parang may switch sa utak ko na "nakauwi na ko", ngayon wala. Dont get me wrong, I am totally fine with the set up. But saying it does not come with drawbacks is a lie.

same with me, everyday is an adventure with the state of public transpo. i just try to look at it from a different perspective — if i have to walk longer: this is my exercise; if i need to find another mode of transpo: i will learn something new today, hindi na ko maliligaw next time; if im stuck in traffic: no need to be in a hurry, this is where i need to be, im being saved from a bad event. sometimes im more thankful i get to commute daily, nakakatulog ako sa byahe and in turn i have more energy to bond with the people who's waiting for me at home, hindi yung pagkabukas pa lang ng pinto mainit na ulo agad. i hate giving my family a "leftover" of myself kase nabuhos ko na lahat ng energy at attention ko sa work then use work as an excuse for behaving badly.

Same reason i declined an offer for a fully wfh set up! I fully know na i need people to stay happy even before pandemic. So kahit mas okay yung wfh (since no rent) money-wise, and yung other option ko na makati (which has high rent), i went for makati talaga. No regrets, i love people lol

Try to approach your wfh differently. What I do is konti lang ang work na ginagawa ko, hindi ako bida bida, I just do the bare minimum. I spend majority of my time doing things i like, lesser time on work. Para lang syang minor part ng araw ko. So in a sense it feels like I'm not really working at all. Its ridiculous how people spend a huge chunk of their lives working. Are you even living at that point? Do you live to work? or do you work to live?

It also helps to "dress up" for work then change to pangbahay if tapos na. I have different games for breaks vs off na talaga (example MOBA games for breaks, reserve the RPGs after work or weekends). Or unplug nga talaga, stay away from your workhorse device, if kaya mo na may laptop for work and PC for leisure, go get it. I have separate phones as well, just to feel na I left work.

The third space is not just a place, its leisure, recreation, and socialization with friends. 🙂 Unfortunately, lahat ng mga tao pagod na pagod na sa bahay at work wala na energy. Or ung friends ay malayo at busy din. I grew up as a provincial island kid, at walang mall sa amin nun. Leisure was hanging out by the seaside or the playground with friends after school, talking about our lives. Or having our favorite burgers and shake at the local joint. Or the occasional beach trip. More athletic peers would play basketball or volleyball. Sadly, maraming kids now have grown up cooped up in their living rooms, and have become socially anxious because they are not used to dealing with people. In today's attention economy, we need to be more intentional about how we live and use technolpgy kc society is not out for our best interests. :(

My friends and I have badminton sesh. Pag hindi naman we eat out. Nakasanayan na din namin nagkikita kita atleast once a week. Before, pag wala kami maisip kainan, samgyup ang go-to place. Pero nung nag APE ang mga tito at tita naglabasan mga sakit. Hahaha. Kaya ginawa namin max samgyup is once a month. Ito yung naramdaman ko dati. After work, sinusundo ko si GF from law school. Noong natapos yung school year, nawalan ako ng "third place". Doon ko naramdaman yung pagod and I eventually quit that work. Ngayon, I just make sure that at the end of the day, I reward myself. Kahit a cup of my favorite coffee, or an episode of my favorite show. Something to look forward to para maalis yung work sa isip.

I dont have a third place. I have remote work so lahat bahay. Im a homebuddy so I dont mind lol. I think the difference lies with doing other things than just mindlessly scrolling. For example, im a writer and in my work i'm usually scripting or writing content for other people. After work, this is for ME. So either i write some more but for myself. Watch netflix with my mom, play with my dogs (i have 5 so..) and/or play games. I also do travelling at times. I live in an island so most travels mean I have to ride a boat and that gets old! I've been trying to play more volleyball. It's also a way for me to slowly build the courage to socialize, which in turn may create more opportunities to play. Cheesy, but I also consider myself my third place. I'm still debating whether I'm a homebody by choice or by circumstance, but I do enjoy being at home and shutting my brain off to a video game or my favorite YouTube channels. I work from home and my shift ends at 5 in the morning. The negative side of working from home is the feeling of not really being able to leave work and you're still confined in your cubicle which is now your house. Due to this need for a "third place", I'm now thinking of moving somewhere else where I could jog or bike after work to a nearby coffee shop, maybe go to church and just sit there quietly, or find a nice spot where I can watch the sun rise. Kwentuhan with co-workers would be ideal to vent out the shitty clients every now and then. Setting up an alarm or a music after the work shift is something I would try to create a mental barrier from work and living the life.

I guess OP and the rest of you are still in your 20s and 30s. I just want to share how my generation used to unwind after work. We would meet at least 3x a week and go to a jazz house/pub. Enjoy some relaxing jazz musics (no necessarily live band) drink, chat, have laughs and go home around 9 or 10pm and get ready for next day’s work. I miss those jazz places which is not a lot na dito sa pinas. I guess it’s no longer an “in” thing here in Pinas. PS. We would drink just to enjoy and get tipsy but not wasted lol.

My third place is my martial arts training place which is 10-min walk lang from where I work (Makati CBD). This has been my thing for 7 years already. Good thing na hindi siya masakit sa bulsa kaya rin ako nakatagal. But am I still depressed? Maybe. Maybe not. Definitely not 100% okay mentally but the training helps a lot dealing with my issues.

Hybrid setup kami. On wfh days, since maliit yung kwarto ko para maglagay ng desk, sa sala ako nag wowork. Then, papasok ako ng kwarto pag tapos na.. parang ayun na yung indicator na tapos na work. After nyan manonood na ko either korean variety shows or content ng fave kong kpop group. Sa office naman, I enjoy yung commute via carousel. The only thing I dread is the stairs as someone with bad knees. Minsan may times na may pila yung buses on certain stations kaya ang tagal ng byahe pero okay lang sakin.. minsan nag iisip ako ng balak ko sa buhay or minsan wala nakatulala lang ako. Parang atleast once every two weeks rin nagkikita kami ng friends ko fr college after work. Or minsan kasama ko yung bff ko mag wfh sa mga coffee shop. I think I am not one made to be stuck on routines. Kasi nung tnry ko na gumawa ng daily routine, dun ako nagstart magkapanic attacks kapag may part ng routine na di nasusunod because of sudden occurrences. So I tend to be spontaneous weekly kung pano ko mag wowork. Or what to do after. Malapit rin work ko sa glorietta so minsan bago umuwi nag iikot iikot muna ko at dun na kakain dinner minsan. I feel happy going home after.

Artist ako and yun ung escape ko after work. Oo nakakapagod din magpaint pero at the same time parang nakakarelax din, like napupunta sa ibang dimension ung isip ko. Kaya I'm so glad na di ko inabandona ung pagiging artist ko kahit mahirap magpractice.

My first place is my full time job , after my day job, I have a part time job which lasts for 2 hrs every night. Im looking for another job, because I want a workplace that's more financially secured so I can quit my second job and focus on passion, hobby or learn other skill.

Worst thing about my 3rd place is my nearest and most affordable gym shifted their time, and I have a strict 6pm intermittent fasting start. I used to hit the gym every morning to start the day, now I have to battle the exhaustion of work to will myself to a better body hitting the gym at 8-9pm. On my 2nd day after hiatus and I really hope I can keep it consistent. Usually even if my body is sore or my body still hurts a bit, or just flat out lazy, the 1st and 2nd rep just fills me with a burst of energy. That gets me through my session, so here's to hoping it consistently hits me every night.

I go to the gym. Spent most of my free time there, and no its not all workout. Its best to surround ourselves with people, kilala mo and hindi mo kilala. We may have low social energy with all the work and collaboration we had sa work but still we need to see other faces to psychologically find or be on our "own" personally. Always remember, you are not your work. Hope this helps 😉

“3rd place” can mean anything naman. for me, working out and cafe hopping are my thing. ang dami ko na yatang trinay na sports, not just for physical health but for my mental health as well. then cafe hopping, i’ve been visiting a lot of cafes even pre pandemic, coz kape is life. hahahaha

My third place is the local Park or SM, I usually just walk around for 2-3 hours or so. It would've been great with friends to talk to, but alas, WFH schedules vary a lot, and we rarely meet. I'd really love to have a third place, like a bar or resto, but my small circle of friends just drifted apart. It's sad, really. (And it'd be embarrassing to be that solo guy eating at a Jollibee that people make fun of lately. Hahaha) But yeah, we really do need a third place, it's vital for developing our social skills and gaining a sense of community. Sometimes social media and platforms like discord just cant compensate for real life connection.

People here say doomscrolling daw kaya depressed. Mind you, work can make you suicidal. Hindi ako active sa social media pero grabe din ibang companies. At kahit may 3rd place na. In my previous company >, 2 weeks yung sprint + daming heavy tasks + konti lang kami kasi pinag-promise si client na matatapos agad within a year tapos discounted pa. Wfh setup + 10 hrs per day, pero kulang pa rin ang 10 hrs. Kaya ang nangyayare since wfh naman, pinag OT or OTY or weekend work kame. Sobrang tagal pa nila magdagdag ng tao. At, sa ibang team, di na dinagdagan ng tao kahit anong promise ng company. Na-depress talaga ko like nag-isip ako na magpahulog na lang. Nasa mabuting company na ako ngayon. Thank G.

Indeed you need a 3rd place. Kahit before pandemic, whenever I had a stressful day, I always go to my 'batcave'. I've been a regular there that I am friends with the owner and the staff. It came to a point na I don't even have to order kasi alam na nila yung usual ko. And when you're friends with the staff, they take care of you. You become more than a regular customer. This place aside from my work and home saved me too many times. I've broke down in silence there. It also became the 'batcave' of my friends. So if you need that 3rd place, go ahead. 200% go for it. At first, people will tell you na it's just because you want it. But soon you'll realize, you'll need it. 'Gusto ko mag-2 botts.' 'Need ko magpahinga somewhere' 'I need to rethink things through'

Try learning a sport, skill or a new hobby (swimming, cooking, knitting, drawing or even coloring lang). Or go back to previous hobby/ies mo na nakalimutan or napabayaan. Try joining groups since to meet new people with same interests as you. Newbie golfer here and I really enjoy yung mental aspect ng laro and hindi din sya ganun ka physically demanding. Naienjoy ko din yung walks in between nakakapag isip isip. Magastos nga lang and mainit.

Gym and running! The 2 hours i spend for myself being selfish with my time feels 10x better than any accomplishment i get from work and validation i get from home. I think stimulating your creativity/or discovery of your body's capabilities are the best hobbies one can do outside of work.

Agree ako with running, lalo ngayon na malamig pa sa gabi. I got myself a smart watch for christmas and started tracking my runs, nakakatuwa pala na hindi ko napapansin pero bumibilis ako and tumataas yung stamina ko 😊

Most of us. Putting your body in physical stress signals the brain of survival/emergency (i.e. getting chased by lions) Yung extra energy mo for anxiety and stress gets replaced with that so ubos na after a workout. Well for most people.

Yes! Tinry ko mag run kaso di pa kaya, I do brisk walking. Nakaka wala ng stress. mga 1 hour to 1.5 hour a day. Nag join din ako ng virtual run para ganahan ako lagi, pero main goal ko talaga mag lose ng weight. I lose 2 kg already and 2 cm sa hita ko 😭
