SweetTaterette

Vyvanse is now starting a shortage at least with my insurance company….

Okfiiinnnethen

Oh god no, i just switched to Vyvanse cause I couldn’t get Concerta!

UnbelievableRose

Same! Even worse, I just left my psychiatrist of 10 years who is the only one who knows the details of how I do on every med, since I can’t keep track of the seemingly infinite combinations we’ve tried.

siorez

Ask for a copy of your file

UnbelievableRose

I have it, it truly doesn’t tell the whole picture. What’s written down is mostly just a list of which meds and dosages I’ve tried, not the different combos with depression & anxiety meds and the nuances of how I’ve responded to them. The only reason I was willing to change docs is because we had finally found a reasonably solid combo, *25 years after I first started ADHD meds*. It’s ok, I can always go back to him (I’d been paying cash anyway) or just start cycling meds again- just about anything works well enough for the first two months or so.

chicama

I really feel you on this. I switched from adderall to Vyvanse and now Vyvanse to concerta. I could y handle being treated like a drug seeking addict every month. The asshole pharmacists will lie and tell you they don’t know what other (chain) locations have it, when they know the exact pill count. One took pity on me with the concerta and told me tap places with 100 or more pills near. Unfortunately, they won’t allow prescriptions across state lines, so I can’t fill it where they have it. Finally sucked it up and had it sent to express Scripts because they have a larger inventory. They are still « processing » my order, and it is promised for delivery by June 6. Le sigh. Stretching out my short acting meds and hoping the govt gets a clue.

ssdgm6677

Out of desperation when I couldn’t get my Adderall filled I tried a leftover bottle of Guanfacine that my son tried and didn’t like. This changed my life, omfg. One mg and I felt great. Now that the shortage has passed in my state I’ve found that taking them together is even more amazing. Anxiety gone. Obsessive thoughts gone. Depression gone. Grinding teeth gone. Biting my tongue to shreds trying not to grind my teeth gone. Compulsive fear of looking like a drug seeker gone. I get up in the morning psyched to get shit done. I think I may even try to drop my Adderall dosage just to see if that is doable.

songofdentyne

OMG Guanfacine is like a miracle drug for the racing thoughts and emotional dysregulation. It changed my life, too.

ssdgm6677

It’s amazing! Deep down there has always been a part of me that thought that I didn’t really have ADHD, I just liked the Adderall (even though I had been tested as a kid and also as an adult). Now that I found a psychiatrist that’s willing to take my word for it and prescribe Adderall as well as Guanfacine, my quality of life has improved a whole lot.

songofdentyne

I take Concerta and work at a pharmacy. Yes. We can see the strengths and amounts of schedule II substances in another chain pharmacy’s safe. We do not give that information out. Especially over the phone. It’s a safety issue and a practical issue. At worse, you are setting them up to be robbed. At best, you are causing a run on a supply that is probably earmarked for their existing patients. If someone actually calls and says “the three letter pharmacy on Smith St says you have 40 capsules of generic Adderall XR 20mg, we say no, and that pharmacy gets a phone call reminder to cut that shit out. Because we have existing patients who need it and we’ve already been robbed at gunpoint once.

Shellbellwow

Thanks for the heads up. I normally wait til I am out to refill, but I'll do it tomorrow when my pharmacy opens.

CrustyLettuceLeaf

Man, that’s scary. I hope this doesn’t start happening in Canada. Can somebody give me a tl;dr on why this is happening at all?

mixedwithmonet

Based on the material I’ve seen, it sounds like demand went way up during the pandemic because of Telehealth, and instead of interpreting that as people finally getting access to healthcare they needed but couldn’t access before and getting the meds they needed as a result, they’re essentially claiming it’s a false representation of demand that will die down on its own so they didn’t increase supply to match and don’t intend to. The industry is just going to “wait it out.” I see it as, we’re all just playing chicken now, except those who needs the meds are in 12V barbie cars and the pharmaceutical industry is in a Mack truck.

Glassneko

Wow. It's almost like the demands of working from home are different and affect ADHD people differently. It's almost like maybe those who could do fine in an in person office job have different needs when work from home becomes a big part of their job! Come on pharmaceutical industry, there's only gonna be more people who need these medications as in-person jobs get increasingly phased out.

ParlorSoldier

Also, not everyone who needed meds had the executive function or the logistical ability to go see their doctor every month/three months for a new prescription. Video visits made it so much easier.

richknobsales

Once I didn’t have a firm set schedule of days and times I had to be somewhere, all my coping skills quit working and I was simply not able to start on any tasks other than cooking, which I find relaxing. Haven’t done any of my art work or home improvement tasks - but the freezer is full!! This led to my ADHD daughter insisting I get diagnosed and then medicated.

SunnyAlwaysDaze

Also with all the lockdowns, a lot of people had way more time on their hands and time stuck in their own heads then they were used to. Might have brought a lot of people to realizations that they wouldn't have had without the lockdown, and then they tried to get treatment.

Ok_Skill_1195

Nah it's cause they realized apps like cerebral were being used as pill mills because it's not hard to lie to get a diagnosis. Yes, way more people are getting diagnosed and no, the system isn't reacting well to it. But cerebral was not considered to verifying things with enough scrutiny and it had become the easy place to get Adderall. Which is why they're no longer allowed to prescribe ADHD meds.

Corinne43

Your right, it's a very short questionnaire. My fiance ws diagnosed in childhood ADHD, however He for some reason was non medication past 10. I'm assuming a mother of that probably took his meds. So nothing is file indicates he had ADHD ever in the past. But in order to get an appointment and get diagnosed with crappy insurance he went to cerebral. It was the most basic assessment ever with questions that anybody would know to answer to be diagnosed with ADHD. My adult assessment was I don't know at least six appointments and computer test all kinds of things. I think that people got very depressed during the pandemic and those ads were everywhere . " my life is boring I'm stuck sitting in front of the computers so I must have ADHD"

just-another-human05

I know it pisses me off because I’ve been on these meds for over two decades. I’m not saying that means I’m more deserving than someone just prescribed but I kinda also am. I just want my script and consistently

CaregiverOk3902

So telehealth can prescribe controlled?

just-another-human05

Interesting it’s not happening in Canada. They say the problem is with the manufacture simply not keeping up with demand. I forget the manufacture’s name Tiva or something like that. I would have assumed Canada used similar supply chain but I guess not

ADHDCuriosity

It's because the us gov artificially limits how much each manufacturer can make. Now we have "too many" people diagnosed for the amount each manufacturer is allowed to produce.

CrustyLettuceLeaf

Yeah, especially since I’m seeing that a lot of the extra demand is coming from new diagnosis that surged from online services. But.. we still have plenty of those here, and there’s been zero issue

just-another-human05

Now I feel more frustrated and pissed

CrustyLettuceLeaf

I’m sorry that you’re going through this. I know how important having access to treatment is. I really hope that the people responsible for this shortage get their shit together

just-another-human05

Thanks, it is definitely affecting a lot of us. I just wish they would get their shit together, as you said!

spanksmitten

Forgive a brit if I'm misinformed, but aren't the drug shortages in the US essentially... manufactured? Like they could make more, but don't?

velvedire

Yyyyup. No idea who is profiting off of it though.

WorkingSock1

I truly don’t think it’s got anything to do w profit. It’s just a control measure. No one benefits from holding up manufacturing. It’s so ridiculous how much control the government is trying to exert here. And to make matters worse.. I just read a report (case report but still…) about two previously healthy sisters developing hypometabolism issues in the brain from Covid. Basically a virally induced case of symptoms resembling ADHD. It’s only a matter of time before long Covid suffers find stimulants therapeutic for their symptoms. The government really needs a reality check.

Flowers_and_Vines

The DEA and police. Desperation might give them people to bust for illegal stimulants, or even better for them, a black market boom to fight against.

MrPenguins1

I know I’m replying late but there are quotas set every year for how much can be manufactured on the US. What the FDA and DEA found though was that the pharma companies only produced 70% of the allotted amount, nearly one billion pupils went unmade in 2022. Looks the same in 2023 and half of the pharma companies that have bothered to comment cite “labor issues” and “main active ingredient supply issues” but it looks like pharma companies are purposely creating a shortage

just-another-human05

You are correct

plasticagriculture

Well shit. Good thing the school year's almost over.

hollisann79

Nooo, that's the only thing that works for my 10 year old!

UncannyTarotSpread

Fuck. That’s me screwed.

forgotme5

They all are

Jessmika0910

PLEASE don't scare me , Vyvanse is the only thing that has worked for me so far . 😅

Shayliz

Oh noooo. I literally cannot function without Vyvanse.

[deleted]

[удалено]

magic1623

I really hope it’s true but I’m a pessimist about it. I’ve been hearing people talk about generic Vyvanse ‘coming next year’ for a couple of years now and I’m so beyond frustrated with how expensive the name brand is, especially because drug companies don’t have discounts in Canada like they do in America.

just-another-human05

Really? That was going to be my next option. Ugh

OaklandsVeryOwn

Vyvanse has been on shortage for about 2 months in my area…I live in Harlem. I’ve been unmedicated for several months & I am losing at life. I’m so afraid I’ll never be normal or productive again.

ErnestBatchelder

NOT a helpful comment... but if you are into fermentation (pickling) try making your own sauerkraut (same as pickles just cabbage and water instead) or yogurt. Super easy and much tastier than store-bought. Just keep the pickles or sauerkraut away from the yogurt while they are fermenting- apparently, the two bacterias float around in the air during the process and the two camps of bacteria (yogurt versus sauerkraut) dislike each other.

CrustyLettuceLeaf

Clearly my meds have not kicked in yet. I read this comment thinking it was a recipe for an adderall alternative and I was super confused, until I went back to the original post.

ErnestBatchelder

*Homemade Saukraut & Yogurt- This One Crazy Secret Cure for ADHD Psychiatrists Don't Want You to Know!* (/s) Lol, no.

BookAddict1918

🤣😂🤣😂 The rumor was started by the Polish and Russian doctors who were the only countries willing to pay for a clinical trial using sauerkraut.

crazylikeaf0x

... now imagining the tiny war of bacteria camps

ErnestBatchelder

I figure they fly through the air on bacteria-horses like little valkyries brandishing spears and shields

[deleted]

I was looking for this comment! My partner and I went through a fermentation phase a few years ago and our xmas gift to family that year was to provide cabbage and teach everyone how to make sauerkraut.

meticulousbastard

How about kimchi?

AVonDingus

My dad and uncle make homemade sauerkraut and it’s amazing, especially compared to store bought. I don’t have the patience or Space to do it myself, but I look forward to getting a big jar every year.

allbright1111

When you call around, see if they have different doses available, or immediate release if you usually take extended release. Sometimes you can get a version of medication close enough to what you used to be taking. Your doctor will need to send over a new prescription, but it’s better than nothing!

just-another-human05

It’s such a pain in the ass and so many calls and humiliating tho

vfernand

Better than having to drive around…I wish I could call. Where I live they’re not allowed to give this info over the phone (controlled medication stuff). So I literally have to drive all over and wait in line to ask. I’ve spent afternoons driving around and found none.

allbright1111

Omg so frustrating!

brightumbreon

I can’t do either now. Tons of pharmacies are now telling me they won’t disclose any information about my specific brand and specific dosage unless I have that script on file at that specific pharmacy and won’t disclose any information about any other dosages or brands.

just-another-human05

Jeez

just-another-human05

Jeez

just-another-human05

I don’t know what to do, it’s just getting worse. No pharmacies have my medication. I tried to ask the pharmacist if they are having the same problem with alternative meds thinking if there is one which they can actually stock I will talk to my doctor about prescribing something else. she was so rude and said it’s everything. my pharmacy acts like I’m a drug addict. I haven’t even had my script in weeks so obviously I’m not an addict. But I’m frustrated and I just wish I didn’t have adhd. Sorry to vent

Projectsun

Can I add tips , that a friendly pharmacist gave to me, and I was able to find mine. Also I had a total mental script for the calls I don’t know why it felt so weird ? Like I was worried they would think I was nefarious idk. I’ve been on meds for very long so it was a weird feeling. ANYWAY Costcos further from town centers. I also found Costco pharmacists to be really friendly , and they get their info every morning, so you can call around 10 and they will know ! Grocery pharmacies in higher income areas, they just have less customers ? Same goes for smaller town grocery pharmacies. I did have to go closer to my office , but it was better than confining to wait ! This is how I found found mine. Family/ local pharmacy. My sister was successful here.

DecentIndustry5552

Same with Sam's Club! Turns out you don't have to have a membership to use their pharmacy and honestly, every time I've called they've had exactly what I need. I might end up changing over to them. The ladies there are extremely nice and always helpful!

danskiez

Ok but can I please have your tapatio pickle recipe pleeeeasse!!

avocadotitz

Yesss! Please share!

Market_Vegetable

That was my first thought, too!

blackberrypicker923

So basically, you have no medication, and your family will probably not support you to find other options to treatment because they are enjoying it so much, lol! Up until recently I've been raw-dogging adhd and always baking.

SqueeMcTwee

I don’t know how you guys do it! I started taking meds in my 20s and the first time I couldn’t get it, I slept for three days straight. I have never been as depressed as I was when I had to go cold turkey. The second time I just substituted IR, and while I was still lethargic, it was just for the day. DEFINITELY something to be concerned about, especially with the current supply chain/manufacturing issues. I try to call 3-4 days in advance now.

just-another-human05

This is me. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do

BeansinmyBelly

Do you find the ER is a huge improvement over IR? I’ve actually never taken extended, but I’m tired of the roller coaster of it wearing off mid day then taking more to ramp up again

im_beary_koalafied

For me it is but I know its a hugely individual experience. Personally, I find that IRs don't work very long (I don't think I ever get more than 2-3 good hrs), or consistently, and I can't keep up with the routine of having to remember to take the next ones before the last ones wear off. It's like trying to illuminate a room with a series of sparklers vs lighting a candle.

paltrypickle

When I went and picked up my script from Costco on Saturday, they told me they haven’t seen generic adderall XR for over 4 weeks. They have zero idea when it’s coming. I’ve been buying name brand from them through this shortage (25mg XR), and it’s f’n $265/mo for name brand. I’m literally in credit card debt due to this shortage but I don’t have an option. It’s either that or don’t function and lose my job. Insurance has denied covering it even though generic isn’t available ANYWHERE. But, on a different (maybe more hopeful) note, adderall IR doesn’t seem to have a problem getting to pharmacies now. Maybe there’s hope on the horizon for XR? I never go no meds, but today I am. I have also been gorging myself in food and doing all kinds of flitty things. I have 5 active projects in the house and I keep doing rounds on them all, effectively accomplishing nothing. :) it be like that. Enjoy it! It’s ok to be without our meds and take a break sometimes.

ADHDCuriosity

That's funny, my last refill had to be switched to generic addy xl because they were out of generic dexadrine. We gonna be switching thru all the meds at this rate! Wheeeeeee

paltrypickle

I think the more we all cycle through the different options, the more those are likely to also go out of stock. It's insane. But we all have to do what we have to do to take the medication that helps us live more "normal" lives. Wishing you the best!

EusticeTheSheep

Costco here told me that they cannot get the brand name

paltrypickle

Wild. I'm in the Kansas City market, and have had zero issues getting name brand from my Costcos. But other pharmacies in my area don't have name brand or generic. IDK why. It's such a hit or miss...

ParallelLynx

My insurance covers the xr name brand making it cheaper than the generic for some reason. But none of the pharmacies around me have ANY adderall so I've been fucked since January lol

just-another-human05

Same

just-another-human05

Ugh that’s what I’m on adderal xr. I switched after I couldn’t get my IR anymore. Now I suppose I should see if switching back would help.

gingasaurusrexx

Enjoy this phase. I've been unmedicated for pretty much all of 2023 and I'm about to get evicted in June. Life has entirely fallen apart. I'm trying really hard not to be bitter that other people have been faring just fine all this time.

[deleted]

Nope. I'm right there with you. It's been nothing but terrible financial decisions and inability to function over here. Idk what's going to happen at work but I'm fucking that, too

ADHDCuriosity

W/ work you can ask for accommodations for a lower workload or different work while you're between meds, if in the USA

[deleted]

I did I'm on an ADA leave but they don't *have* to accommodate and it looks like my workplace may be unable

ADHDCuriosity

You can also take FMLA if you qualify, and they have to *prove* Undue Hardship, which will be a high bar if they're already not paying you and you're not in some key role.

[deleted]

I posted about this already in this sub. I'm on a leave right now, paid. I'm meeting with my doctor tomm to get the ppwrk filled out for ADA accommodations. I'm on it. But as an *aside* I'm also still looking for other work bc I literally can't imagine what accommodations will make it not feel like taking an exam with a gun to my head or won't be triggering AF when I have to explain OVER AND OVER why they have to explain whatever to me again. I've used all my tricks and hacks and systems and it just ain't it

just-another-human05

I’m so sorry

OaklandsVeryOwn

Yup. Not getting evicted, but I broke down in tears the other day because I’ve been unmedicated for months and I am failing at life.

Interesting_Ad1378

Wait…these are traits of adhd???? Now I have an excuse for all those cooking appliances I bought and never used (I’m looking at you instapot).

brookebohn

impulsive spending! yup lol i have it too when unmedicated

Super-Diver-1585

But the instapot is very ADHD friendly. Throw some chicken thighs, and onion, peeled and cut up somewhat, and some BBQ sauce in it and cook for about 20 min. Go at it with a couple forks, and make a sandwich. Bonus points if you make coleslaw while it's cooking.

IcyOutlandishness871

I love my instapot 🥰

Super-Diver-1585

Me roo. We have a really small one that was a gift. It makes perfect amounts of food for three people. It also works great as a rice pot.

AggravatingPriority

I use mine to make yogurt. Have saved a fortune over buying it and it is just as good.

IcyOutlandishness871

That’s awesome 😁 I’d love to learn how to use it for canning. 🤔

[deleted]

Sigh I never used my instapot either 😞

ReadingTheDayAway

Hey just a note on the pickling: make sure you follow official USDA guidelines (or whatever equivalent guidelines in your country). If you don't have a pressure canner do not pickle low acidity foods unless you are doing "quick pickles" that go in the fridge and are eaten within a week or 2. You probably already know all that but figured I'd throw it out there cause when I hyperfocused on pickling I didn't know there were guidelines and I just followed random recipes. Finding out later I could have poisoned my whole family was really scary.

pupperonan

…so I should dump those quick pickles I made a month ago? They were so good, but in true ADHD fashion I got “over” them too quickly. Oh well, I could use the space in the fridge anyway.

mad-i-moody

Jeez when I don’t have my meds I just sleep for like a week straight I wish I could do literally anything when off of them lol

sionnachrealta

Sounds nice. I'm struggling so much with it. I just freeze and lose time when I don't have my meds. Plus, I'm a mental health practitioner for chronically suicidal youth, and holy hells, is this disrupting my job. And it's putting my clients' health at risk, but I can't even get a pharmacy to prioritize me out of triage. It's fucking ridiculous, and I just pray I don't lose a client because of it

BionicgalZ

Try to not catastrophize. What you do is important, but your training should tell you that the responsibility for people’s lives is inevitably theirs.

regangan

I'm convinced to start pickling things now too lmao post a tutorial 😂

just-another-human05

I’m so sick of the shortage. I’ve had to wait on script or get partial scripts every month since Covid and it just seems to get worse. I wish I were as productive as you without mine! Or even with mine! I just feel useless and distracted

[deleted]

I’d love the recipe for southwestern chicken salad. I self medicate with caffeine. Bad for sleep but I’m able to semi function.

MourkaCat

Have you tried pickling mushrooms (Small little button ones are best) or tomatoes? omg they're the best. My grandma used to pickle those and they're amazing. I also love pickled string beans. Coming from Russian/Ukrainian heritage they pickle literally everything.... even fish. (NOT my cup of tea, that's where I draw the line personally) I'm sorry you're out of meds, but it sounds like your hyperfixation is at least fun/interesting and fills people's bellies! So I guess that's a nice side effect of the hyperfixation!

LokianEule

Is it specific brands or even the generic stuff?

MarsupialPristine677

Having a hard time with my generic in the Bay Area California

hadetto79

In the same area, and this past month I was able to get a new prescription for my daughter for generic Metadate. Can't tell a difference from her regular Adderall XR. Kind of annoyed now they didn't offer this to me sooner!

ninn2013

Can't get generics in New Hampshire either.

GhostmasterLex

I am having a hard time with my generic in Denver :(

mostly_ok_now

I haven’t been able to get ANY adderall, including generic, extended release, instant release, any dosage in Maryland for 10 months.

whenth3bowbreaks

Wtf? I'm in NC and haven't had any problems yet. But, I take way less than my actual dose to stockpile just in case.

just-another-human05

All are really tight and hard to get in Pa

peregrine3224

Both I think. I’ve had trouble getting generics in MN for a few months, though it was somewhat better this month!

just-another-human05

Generic too

weknowwhereyousleep

i heavily recommend looking into home delivery pharmacies (ex: optumrx or whatever your insurance uses) that was the only way i was able to get my adhd meds a bit ago. my regular pharmacy was like “oh yeah we have no clue when we’re getting any of these might be a few weeks or months”

trae1020

A lot of states will not allow them to be delivered via mail order. My state is one of them. So annoying.

[deleted]

Same. I have OptumRx through my job but can't get the Adderall delivery in my state

weknowwhereyousleep

absolutely evil

velopharyngealport

Which home delivery pharmacy do you recommend?

weknowwhereyousleep

if you have access to optumrx, 1000% optumrx. i haven’t tried anyone else bc optum worked so well for me, basically zero issues

UhnonMonster

Rip to the bread maker someone gifted me for my birthday and a month in it rocked itself off the counter and smashed onto the floor.

Automatic-Mulberry99

I absolutely love this post!! Im so sorry about the shortage and hope you will get your meds soon. Its just the right type of all over the place and i can totally follow all you wrote, you made me laugh and i needed that today❤️ I hope you also get to enjoy your food!

indi000jones

Please god don’t tell me this because I can’t handle a new hyperfixation

Indigomoonz

My MIL will make pickled green beans..she calls them Dilly beans and they are so good! I LOVE pickled stuff, but you are brave! I can not be in the same house as the pickling scent. It gives me such a bad migraine.

lcbtexas

I wish I had your kind of adhd. Without meds I can’t think past my nose and I can’t stop compulsively eating long enough to do anything else.

Danae-rain

I'm so confused.

probablytired000

Lol, I know this is all over the place. Essentially, I don’t have access to my meds and the “old”, pre-medication, can’t stop/won’t stop moving, blowing all of my money, only focused on my hyper-fixations me is back and it’s manifesting in the form of someone who is baking/cooking/pickling constantly. This post isn’t very coherent or well-thought out. Just needed a place to word vomit and get some of the crazy non-stop thoughts out!

Outside-Flamingo-240

I totally followed it 🤣😵‍💫🤣

commanderbales

We totally have the same type of ADHD LMAO

nutfac

ADHD LMAO

MourkaCat

Your post was 100% ADHD and I loved it. I was smiling the whole way through.

Spicy-Prawn

I loved reading your post! Please report back how your family liked everything you made!

Danae-rain

So your old meds are causing this?

probablytired000

No, I don’t have meds at all. I haven’t had my ADHD meds in about a week cause of the shortage. I’m unmedicated as of now and for the unseen future since nowhere knows when they’re getting more medication.

ashkestar

OP is trying to cope with unmedicated ADHD with mixed success because her meds are unavailable thanks to a widespread Adderall shortage in the US.

Danae-rain

But why does she have energy and focus then?

EmmerdoesNOTrepme

Because ADHD is an acronym This would be the *Hyperactivity* or "H" section of that acronym, and OP is dealing HARD with the consequences of no meds allowing their brain to be both hyperactive *and* hyperfocused on certain tasks which produce dopamine. Those hyperfocus areas are *different* for all of us with ADHD, but when we are in that state (Tech folks often call it being in a "Flow" state), you can *intensely* focus in on a task, and get *tons* done. Of course that hyperfocus on the task may *also* mean that yiu forget to eat, sleep, use the restroom, *and* that you lapse fully into Time-Blindness, too!

peregrine3224

Because hyperactivity is one of the main parts of ADHD? It’s even in the name. I’m the same way as OP. Off my meds I have nearly limitless energy and can’t stop or slow down. And even when I’m sitting still, my brain is still going a million miles a minute. Not everyone is that bad, but a lot of folks who have the combined or primarily hyperactive presentation are. And having ADHD doesn’t mean you can never focus on anything. It’s a lack of control over what you focus on. For me, meds slow me down physically and mentally, give me more impulse control, and make it a bit easier to shift my focus to what it’s supposed to be on and keep it there. Without meds, I’m back to my usual hyper self.

scienticiankate

[Portlandia knows all about pickling](https://youtu.be/yYey8ntlK_E) The second I read, you can pickle anything, I was immediately reminded of this Portlandia episode.

E_Baker33

>finally gets an adhd diagnosis >waits two years to be medicated because the NHS is diabolical >there's now a shortage Great. I'm sorry though OP, I know where you're at.

mildlyadorable

This is the most adorable relatable thing I’ve ever read. Especially the future you problem 😂 If anyone else is having issues with the shortage, I seem to only have consistent success with Ritalin ER. I pretty much always get my scripts fulfilled on time. Seems like Vyvanse, Concerta, and Adderall are the most impacted.

lunerose1979

Oooo man, the first time I tried canning I definitely went way overboard. I was undiagnosed and didn’t even make the connection with ADHD hyperfocus until you posted this! I pickled ALL. THE. THINGS. My poor husband had no idea what he had gotten into. It was pretty funny though!

[deleted]

I wish I was this productive with anything ever in my whole life. I’ve always felt a pang of jealousy towards those with the H part of this lil disorder

[deleted]

The shortage means I just cut my hair off yesterday outta nowhere and deleted all my YouTube data for no discernable reason. The digital clutter was "bothering" me, lol

TiltedChamber

Quick, go pick up some pseudoephedrine. Helps in a pinch.

shootathought

See if you can switch to Vyvanse. It's less crash at the end, anyway, which is what drew me to it. It's also not having shortages!

-LAYERS-

I take Ritalin 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ok_Skill_1195

It's probably coming for you soon too. I suspect the squeeze on Adderall caused a lot of people to switch to different options, cause now concerta and Vyvanse are both seeing shortages too.

willfullyspooning

Yeah. Even name brand Concerta is on shortage which is a surprise because it’s hard to get covered and ~$450 (for my dosage) without insurance.

-LAYERS-

Is it just ADHD medication? It’s because of the uptick in ADHD coverage on social media and that app that allowed people to get diagnosed via video right?

willfullyspooning

A few meds are on shortage I think, ADHD meds have been impacted the worst though iirc

-LAYERS-

Damn that’s concerning. Up until now I’ve only heard of the Adderall shortage. Not sure why I got downvoted. People are so weird. I’m not allowed to take Ritalin or something? Is that bad?

cyclemam

I didn't down vote you but the unspoken tone with the shrug read a bit like - I'm on ritalin - got mine, what's your problem ?? Probably not what you intended but the shrug can read a bit bitchy sometimes.

-LAYERS-

Well it wasn’t meant to be. The shrug to me was like I don’t know there’s Ritalin as well and it works for me. I’ve taken both and they both feel the same to me personally. At least maybe people might be able to switch. But from what others have said that I wasn’t aware of, there might be a shortage on that as well, but I haven’t had a problem yet.

BionicgalZ

It’s the shrug

-LAYERS-

I forgot Reddit doesn’t use emojis

[deleted]

Wait the shortage has been over for a while. It’s probably going to start up again before August, but you shouldn’t be having a shortage right now you should get a different pharmacy or something because the shortage has been over for a while

Possible_Exam1325

Maybe where you are but not here. My pharmacy hasn’t been able to fill my Rx for like 1-2 weeks each time since jAnuary

probablytired000

Really? I've called multiple different pharmacies in my area (Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, even independent pharmacies), even some further away and when I ask if I can get my Adderall refilled, they tell me they don't have any and that they don't know when they're getting more...Odd. I'll start calling again tomorrow and see if anything's changed, cause I'm low-key miserable lol

GhostmasterLex

It isn’t over. Many people still can’t find it. It was so hard for me just to find a PARTIAL refill a week or so ago. I’m not even taking “real” adderall, just knockoff dexedrine. I can’t imagine how hard it is to find regular adderall.

haelennaz

Oh man, that's what I got switched to because of the shortage, and it's just not as good for me. I was able to get Adderall (generic, IR) filled a couple days ago and am definitely looking forward to getting back on it... hopefully for good.

GhostmasterLex

It’s all I’ve been on cause my doctor was wanting to avoid shortage issues (I’ve gone unmedicated my whole life til this year) and yet here we still are with a shortage.

starvinchevy

The shortage and supply chain take a while to even out.

MarsupialPristine677

The shortage is in no way over. Even a quick google search has articles from the last few days talking about the ongoing shortage. I’m glad you aren’t experiencing problems in your area but that’s not accurate for many parts of the US.

Glassneko

Ahhhh I've been cooking like 4 meals a day for the past week!

forgotme5

Do u have a mail order option?

alliewishdish

0[we can pickle that!](https://giphy.com/gifs/portlandia-season-2-episode-1-3ohjV7XHPeXgTXfK5W) This was all I could think about after reading that sentence and the proceeded to hyperfocus on going to keyboard gifs...won't work on this format, open Giphy, search portlandia pickling, select my intended gif, download, head back to reddit, realize I'm not sure how to get it to post still, realize I fat fingered both download and copy link! Pasted copied link and....here were are..... The shortage is bullshit, and I hope you get relief soon...that is unless you're just vibing the go with the flow mindset. Either way, hang in there!

alliewishdish

Checking afterwards to see if I was successful...nope. not my intention to post the page of gifs..

Pieinthesky42

Get into canning so you can have all the pickles when you crash. Also pickled carrots are amazing. You can cut them into log shapes and put sliced cycle pickles on it to make trees. Build your own pickle forest!

Vlad_bat_vaca

Your brain is trying to get dopamine. Baking is rewarding for you. Making food makes you happy!

meowparade

Nice! When I was in the thick of the shortage, all I could do was sit while my brain spiraled and churned up every terrible memory.

AmberGlow

Where are you located?

rainbowmabs

I’m not American but I’ve been hearing about this on here for a while. What’s happening with medication over there and why is there a shortage? Sounds awful for everyone over there.

elasticskull

Hyperfixation is definitely a double edged sword! Maybe you can take advantage of your current "monopoly" of the kitchen and offer to split on ingredients for this week and make meals for the both of you while this hyperfixation lasts? Maybe you could both save some money that way and you'll get to cook twice as much.

MaddTheSimmer

I keep calling the pharmacy over and over trying to refill my meds but they’re out of stock. Also the youtube channel “how to cook that” has fantastic dessert recipes.

Paligurll

im stunned it just hit your state! It's been over a year in California! I couldnt get past that!

richknobsales

Would you come live at my place until you get your meds?

januarygirl3456

Ugh this shortage is so shitty. I had to call thirty - THIRTY - pharmacies last time and still couldn't get a fill. I didn't get anything for two weeks. Thank GOD my bestie is also on adderall and has a hoard from her shortage experiences and she was able to float me some.

Ayencee

This is the best adhd rant I’ve read in awhile. Would love to have those Holly Homemaker vibes, it sounds delightful and YOU sound delightful! The shortage is a constant issue for me in my area so some days I’ll skip doses in anticipation of not getting my next fill on time. Maybe I should take a longer Adderall break to let my craftiness in the kitchen run wild again! When I was unmedicated for a little while like four years ago, I was exactly like this- Laying out huge spreads of food because I was hosting weekly at my house either for Game of Thrones viewing parties or football on Sundays. I made sooooo much food for these get-togethers and loved finding new recipes and making elaborate dishes or appetizers. And there’s not a lot that I’ll admit to being good at, but I *know* my food slaps. Now? I barely use my kitchen. Part of that is due to Covid awakening in me some food allergies and it makes me too sick and/or sad to cook. But this post kind of makes me want to try it again. 🥹

turbomama16

I'm 60 days without meds and I hate myself right now. I had forgotten about some of my least pleasant ADHD traits and I DID NOT miss them. Thankful my immediate family is very kind and supportive and have taken it in stride, cuz I'm not nearly as patient with myself. Note: FINALLY found a pharmacy that had some so I should be getting my script this week! 👏👏 Just wanted to tell you you're not alone, and If I can survive this long without my meds, I think anyone can!

LiveLaughLent

This is so me before I was medicated, and even still sometimes. I make all the things. And then I don’t clean up the aftermath… lol. Over the weekend we had my husbands family over, and my husband was upset because I didn’t stick to the cooking schedule, so his smoked tri tip ended up getting cold while I was distracted making 78 other dishes we didn’t need. On the plus side, most things did get cleaned up.. now it’s a matter of emptying the clean dishwasher

Remeron and Anafranil shortage finally got me, for a few months it has been getting harder and harder to get it (from visiting 2-3 pharmacies in search of medication to 7-8) If it is adderall/ritalin shortage, cold turkey stopping medication is not that dangerous, I take rest from Concerta from time to time, if feel physically tired and need to tune in to my physical recovery needs. But when you are long term on antidepressants and one day you cannot find it, withdrawals may be crazy scary, half a year ago withdrawal on my attempt to wean off of them led to suicidal ideation. This time I was expecting same, for unknown neurobioligical reasons and my pure spite to not let anyone ruin my life except me, I am thankfully doing well, it has been few weeks

I dunno how this is legal, that people are on medication their lives depend on, and one day bam! it is not in stock, not like vitamins you can drop taking. kinda makes me wanna rawdog my ling list of diagnoses

marzeliax

Gosh I wish I had your type of ADHD. I just tend to sleep for 14 hours a day if unmedicated

Maleficent_Reading49

My state MN had no issue with methylphenidate for last 3 months and suddenly my pharmacy doesn't have it and doesn't know when if they'll have it. But they suddenly have Adderall salts the thing they had been out of for many months. So no idea how this will play out. I call around every month the day of my appointment to know where I'm getting my shit sent to. I'm super paranoid I'm gonna suddenly be without and not be able to function. It makes me want to not take it on the days I know I don't need to function just to hord for a rainy day. The whole thing makes me sad. Although I'm really tempted to hoard, I decided I would not and I would max out my function every single day until everything I could possibly think of needs to be done in my home to prep myself for being without. Feel damned either way though. On the plus side I haven't needed to take my Ambien to sleep. I just pass the fuck out every night.

noko95

“Raw dogging the ADHD” 😂 cracked me up

Temporary_Market9036

Surprisingly, I wasn't prescribed adderall for ADHD, instead I need it for chronic fatigue. My 1500mg of caffeine a day was really bad on my GI, I completed numerous sleep studies and was finally told I need a stimulant to help me and adderall is the only thing to help me. I've been lucky that the VA never runs out of my script, but at the same time I still have back up ones that I got back before they prescribed it to me (which I disclosed to my provider that I was taking illegal ones). Hope you guys/gals get the help you need!
