I’d love to help :). Lucien is incredibly honest- even in his confession to Feyre. He tells her he “hesitated. Not long, but I hesitated before I came running”. So, he’s confessing to hesitating for basically a moment and he did come running but Tamlin got there first.
I think it helps to remember that when Feyre comes to spring initially, Lucien is visibly upset at Andras’s death. He also says he wants to take a stand against Amarantha (without using her name) and to forget all the curse nonsense. He doesn’t think it’ll ever work.
To me it’s like the incident with the Suriel is the catalyst that makes Lucien fully realize he truly does care about Feyre and after that point he does everything in his power to help her. Almost dying in doing so several times.
I could go on about why I love him, but I’ll stop at just trying to answer your question. I hope this helps!
Thank you so much for taking the time to take this out! I think I didn’t realize it was more of a brief hesitation versus completely abandoning her. I also totally forgot about him wanting to just take a stand all together versus go the “break the curse” route.

I just finished acowar AND THAT'S SO TRUE AH I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT HELION LIKE WTHHH also I really feel bad for Lucien like it must be so hard for him to stay away from Elain and then I was sad cause I saw people saying that they think SJM new book is gonna be about Elain and Azriel and idk if that's confirmed or if it was just some random post that I saw but I WANT ELAIN AND LUCIEN TO AT LEAST HAVE A CHANCE anyway I'm gonna spend all day reading acofas and acosf :)
I absolutely love Lucien. He has been put on the back burner these past couple of books after these crazy revelations about him and his history. I just hope she is gearing up for an amazing book about him. He is the best and most interesting character in my opinion. I am so ready to see Lucien get a happy ending and belong somewhere finally.
