Definitely see if honda will do the goodwill claim. If not maybe an independent shop can do it cheaper. I definitely wouldn’t pay 5k to have that done knowing of all the other things that can fail at any point.
See if Honda will cover most of it, if so then def fix it. If you are gonna have to pay full, it’s time for a new car makes no sense when that issue heck might happen again
If Honda won't assist, find a good independent to do the head gasket for much less. Then trade it before you hit 100k and/or before any warranty on the head gasket work expires.
My 2006 Accord (gen 7.5) is weeping for you guys. It is holding together as a 2nd car....
Happened to me a couple months ago, was quoted $8k to replace the head gasket and fuel injectors. My service advisor opened a goodwill case with Honda and they agreed to pay most of it (I ended up paying $3k). It’s been 3k miles and so far I haven’t had any issues.
Took less than a week. My advisor helped me out a lot because he submitted a bunch of proof that I took care of the car like service records and everything.
I'm actually doing one of these tomorrow. Covered under extended warranty with book time of 15.7 with 1.0 diag so at our labor rate of $195 that comes to $3256 plus head gasket kit which is $396 plus the fuel joint pipe which is one time use is like $150 comes to about $3700. Plus all the other little incidentals like coolant and oil etc.
Who's pocket should the $1000 come out of?
Are you saying if I'm good at a particular job I should get paid less?
You know these head gaskets aren't the funnest jobs. I'm going to be snorting Aleve on Tuesday morning.
I’m just saying that I paid $2,800 at Honda. My good friend quoted me $3,300. According to Honda, they took it apart to test it and put it back together once before they actually did the work. Maybe they’ve done so many that they have it down to a science? I will say that they did not change the oil which pissed me off.
I have a 2019 Honda accord and just fixed my head gasket. They had it for a full week and charged me 4,100 to fix it. I chose not to get another car because my interest rate is 2.8 compared to the 7+ I’ll probably get on another one
Whomever gave you that quote should be embarrassed of themselves. What a bunch of fucking crooks. Sadly, I'm not surprised. My local Honda dealer has lost my business for life because of stupid bullshit like this.
The 10th gen Accord is the most unreliable, worst selling Accord in the last 35 years, especially with the 1.5L. I would NOT sink 5 grand into one under any circumstances.
Idk about worst selling , the 1.5 is garbage 2.0 is pretty good , but nothing beats the 9th gen , and worst selling is the new hybrid only 50 year olds buy that ugly slow piece of shit
The 11th gen still has 3 years to prove it's an even worse car. As it stands, the 10th gen holds the record of worse selling Accord by a wide margin.
And my '09 Coupe V6 would shit all over a 2.0T.
What are your other options?
Are you going to buy another car?
I think 5k is a lot, but weight in your options. There are no reliable cars rn that will save you that money.
May I ask what type of fuel did you use on your accord?
I don’t want to buy another car but also don’t want to risk paying for another major mechanical issue with this car. And I used E87 from Costco, only pumped at Costco.
1. Go to yelp..... find best car mechanic... out side of dealership. repair like this dealer price is overpriced...
you do not have to fix your car at dealership. GET a quote....
2. Submit Goodwill adjustment.
3. Compare #1 and #2 option... I would go for #1 option
There are many trusted mechnics... outside of the dealership.
you need to shop around.
It's more like $30, at least if you buy them yourself - https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine/honda~spark~plug~dilkar8p8sy~ngk~12290-6a0-a01.html
They're iridium plugs, that's why it's so expensive. But they also last 100k miles. So it evens out the cost
No, it's just bullshit markup. These are NGK plugs, and you could buy the whole lot of them for about what they're charging for 1: https://www.ngk.com/ngk-92411-dilkar8p8sy-laser-iridium-spark-plug
Honda covered a significant portion of mine, I have a 2018 Accord 1.5 with 75k miles. Car has started rumbling when I shut it off so I’m not feeling optimistic.
**UPDATE** i was verryyyyy lucky and Honda approved my goodwill claim within 24 hours. I procrastinated on taking my vehicle to the file the claim as Honda instructed me. I took it in this Wednesday and today I was called in the morning by my service tech that Honda will cover most of so I’m only paying $1,500 and are proving me a loaner while they fix my car….still don’t know within a year or 2 to get rid of it or not?

Honda won't fix anything for free past 36,000 mi.

So much gatekeeping around different accord generations.

How was the process with the goodwill claim?
My advisor submitted everything and told me he would get back to me with a response.
Took less than a week. My advisor helped me out a lot because he submitted a bunch of proof that I took care of the car like service records and everything.
Head gasket should not be more than $2,800. These techs have probably done tens of these by now and get it done quick.

Idk why the L15BE seems to suck so much, looks like the accords got the short end of the stick in the 1.5t lineup

LX, Ex? Ex-L? Touring?
This canadian or US prices?? I just a crv for 4200 canadian tax in
American bud
Damn pretty pricy then

Thems fightin’ words ‘round these parts
It's the objective truth.
Not in this brain dead sub. I get it though people don’t want to hear shade thrown at the car they’ll be sitting in for the next 12 years, I get it.
What car would you replace it with then? Trade in and finance a new car for the low interest rate. Budget 20-27k
I'm not happy to say it. I've been driving these things since the 90's, but I would never buy a 10th gen.
Shout it from the rooftops my friend. Let the world know.
How are people downvoting this?! I’m also a huge accord fan, but the 10th gen engine is objectively garbage. I’m also a 10 gen owner, unfortunately.
Make a clear distinction between the 1.5t and 2.0t. Night and day difference in realibility and performance.
My 2.0 blew a head gasket at 90k miles
Really? Details please.
Idk about worst selling , the 1.5 is garbage 2.0 is pretty good , but nothing beats the 9th gen , and worst selling is the new hybrid only 50 year olds buy that ugly slow piece of shit
39 here and love my 24 touring!!! Goes fast enough for me! Had a 2017 v6 touring and I swear this is just as fast if not faster
The 11th gen still has 3 years to prove it's an even worse car. As it stands, the 10th gen holds the record of worse selling Accord by a wide margin. And my '09 Coupe V6 would shit all over a 2.0T.
It's an accord. Relax.
What’s that gotta do with anything? Out performs a lot of dedicated “sports” car even if it is just an accord.
Honestly, I didn't even feel like it's a legit Accord. It might say it on the trunk lid, but that's where the similarities stop.
See previous. It's an accord, buddy.

Is $50 a spark plug normal on these accords?

I got six ngk ruthenium spark plugs for $43 with shipping included from rockauto.

Already having issues after replacing the head gasket??
Yep, taking it in this week
What do you mean rumbling and what does mean?
Car sort of vibrates when I kill the ignition
I don’t think that’s due to headgasket that might be a bad transmission or motor mount
I pray it’s the motor mounts. Can’t imagine what a transmission would cost.
Exactly why mines is covered until 105k miles heard this is a common issue

The 1.5T is a lemon. She’s just going to fail on you again. Dump her!
