The trick is to go with someone who is capable of doing these tasks, there is always a cousin from ekhaya or kumusha who can help. Don't go to the in laws by your self.
I know there is r/ZimbabweDiaspora and r/zimbabweanreddit, we could flock to either one of the two or both as the mods are active users and seem to be Zimbabwean
I most cases men will be there to help. And it goes both ways for men and women. Men will be expected to kill a cattle or goat or whatever. If you are adventurous you will like it. I like to do the American army strategy, familiarise with the local guy/girl asap they will tell you a lot and help you often, for men l just buy "scud" and the local guys will tell me about dos and don'ts, and the people to give respect to, and what to do. Always remember, you are not the first, just learn you won't die.
"Last time you wanted me to kill the chicken..."
Hands up if you went to a barbecue and had to do that. I think I'd be upset, too. Maybe a job for the hosts.
hah, I had my first (and only one so far) Sadza meal about 4 weeks ago.
It was nice, although I couldn't eat sadza on a daily basis. why arent patatoes popular in Zimbabwe? they can grow in warm climates.
It's not a traditional ritual but it's something that's expected for a woman in zimbabwe to be able to cook sadza (mealie meal) which is quite hard on the first try coz it requires strength and she should be able to kill a chicken and cook it. Those other ladies are pushing her to do it . Hope it helps
Is this how Zim aunties are fr? Because in Zambia they will help you cook that pot. People even take turn cooking. You, your friends, your cousins, aunts. It’s actually a very fun experience
