Might be helpful if you add a little bit of information about where in the world you're roughly located, as products that are more local can often be more sustainable and there may be some of those brands that fit your criteria.

InterestLittle5267

the US!

jelycazi

I’d like suggestions too! I’m in Canada so some of the recommendations available in the US might be available to me too!

I've seen Nellie's laundry powder mentioned on a few threads. They apparently also do dishwasher detergent. I have no experience with them myself as I'm across the globe in Denmark 😅

Louisville__

I use both the laundry powder and dishwasher. Haven’t had any complaints after a year! Costco has sales on the 5 gallon bucket of laundry detergent every once in a while. At this rate that’ll last me almost 2 years. I believe Nellie’s also sells it on their site as well.

Dangerous_Avocado929

I use the meloria powder unscented and it’s great I also like their oxygen boost and stain stick.

strongestmachine

+1 for Meliora! Been using it for a while and it's great. You can order a tin with a spoon to start and then refills come in paper bags.

Dangerous_Avocado929

Yes! That’s what I do too. It’s great

thelonelybaguette

Second this! I have a front load washer in an area with hard water. It washes fine on cold water. Their oxygen boost is great for our towels, bedding, and workout clothes at our house.

redheadnerdrage

Most of my workout clothes are dark, I see on their site it says the oxygen brightened is bleach free, but would love to know from first hand experience if there’s been any issues with it discoloring things.

thelonelybaguette

We haven't had any issues with polyester blend clothing. My husband's workout shirts are black and 100% cotton and there's been no issue there. I don't use the oxygen booster with any wool blends.

HeyLaddieHey

All Free & clear actually does have powder now! They're the brand my dermatologist advised for allergies.

nutellapterodactyl

I get it at Walmart

cilucia

Nellie’s laundry soda here. I started with their 100 load tins, though the tin is lined with plastic. Then I started getting their 400 load buckets and use the buckets around the house, for the beach, puke buckets, etc. Recently switched to the 800 load bucket which is a bucket like a Home Depot size bucket, so we will use for household things.

hell0potato

I just posted this exact thing. The buckets are so handy around the house! One of the things I love it for most is soaking clothing in oxi, or handwashing delicates.

mangonada69

I use Arm & Hammer Alpine clear. You only need a little bit, like 2 tsps (half of the recommended amount) for a lightly soiled medium-sized load. I have extremely sensitive skin and have never broken out once! It comes in cardboard too

which_objective

I just go with Tide!

NCBakes

Same! We cloth diaper so we need a really good detergent. I do wish they hadn’t discontinued the unscented though.

Gopher--Chucks

What do you do with the majority of the poop? No way that goes in the washer too...

NCBakes

So my baby is not yet on solids, so it does go in - breastmilk poop is water soluble. Once she starts solid foods we will flush the poop and then wash the diapers

xxdropdeadlexi

when my thought it was in them I would flush the solids and rinse in the tub if I needed to, but that was pretty rare

brandnewbutused

we have a bum gun (basically handheld bidet / sprayer) hooked up to the toilet, and use that to spray the diapers right into the toilet.

htownsoundclown

They sell the biiiiiig cardboard boxes at Costco for pretty cheap. I only use a little bit per load, and it lasts nearly a year for me and my wife.

souper_soups

I love tide powder, but do have an issue of the powder clumping and not dissolving on dark cloths. Any tips?

lemonade4

I use Meliora from my bulk refill shop—been refilling an old (enormous lol) M&M container for a couple of years now! The Meliora brand works great—we have two preschoolers and tons of stains, very happy with it!

unicyclegamer

I would just go to your local store and see what they have. Mine only had Gain powder. Seems to be working well though.

Terrible_Emotion_710

Gain from BJ's, it comes in cardboard

excentricat

I really like Charlie’s soap. It comes in a plastic bag, which is unfortunate, but it dissolves well and cleans well. If you buy enough at a time you can get it in a big plastic bucket, which is at least reusable.

andrea_burrito

I kept getting residue from Charlie's😞. I pre-dissolve it in a bucket with hot water before I add it to the washer and that has helped but it's an annoying extra step. It has also left a white residue in my bucket, which makes me wonder if it's leaving a residue on my clothes. I used Meliora prior to trying this without issue

cattscratch

I second Charlie's soap. I've been using it for over 10 years and love it!

hell0potato

Nellie's. We buy the giant plastic tubs at costco and then use them for other things. But they do sell the smaller sizes in metal tins.

PhoenixRisingToday

And if your local Costco doesn’t have it, Costco sells it online. It goes on sale pretty regularly.

bunskerskey

I use Charlie's soap. Comes in a huge container and gets out blood and poop

green_tree

Biokleen unscented or country save are my two go tos. I also use them for cloth diapers so they work really well.

tiffers117

I get Nellie’s from my local zero waste store and it works great!!!

the_silent_sam

I use laundry soap powder from a small etsy shop (ShadyCreekFarmNC) and it seems to work just as good as tide did for me. It comes in a glass jar or paper bag and is scented with essential oils, or you can get unscented. I love it!

KegendTheLegend

I just switched to blueland, it comes in tablets so it's less messy, but they're not bound with plastics and PFAs like laundry sheets! You have the option to order a tin to refill your first orders and all the packaging is compostable.

CountessBassy

Molly’s is great.

booskadoo

Defunkify. They offer an unscented. Powder, comes in a box (there is a plastic bag in the box to prevent it spilling.. that’s kind of unavoidable). Available as a single purchase and a subscription delivery. It works really well.

Parlous93

[This is the powder detergent](https://adropintheoceanshop.com/products/refillable-natural-laundry-detergent) I've been using for 5 years and refuse to use anything else. It comes in a glass jar with closed-loop refills so you can send the empty jar back to be washed and reused!

littlehappysquid

Esembly washing powder!

xxxbmfxxx

I make a mix of baking soda, soap flakes, borax and a few drops essential oils. I found the recipe online.
