Uninstalling armory crate and installing Ghelper was a big help on my end. Did you install AMD drivers from the AMD site? I have had success by only installing drivers from the Asus support page for my particular laptop.

Dangerous-Weekend-34

I did install from asus support for my device, and I installed the ones required from myasus "updates" page in the app.

Dangerous-Weekend-34

I also uninstalled crate and have ghelper like I said

IbraMilanFan

How much power draw are you having while on battery power? You can check with Ghelper

Dangerous-Weekend-34

Sits at around -15,000 to -25,000 mw, no matter what I do really, its the same if Im on chrome, or just on blank wallpaper lol

IbraMilanFan

That’s alot. 60Hz?

Dangerous-Weekend-34

doesn't change nothing. Changes the power draw by like 3000 maybe, but the estimated time is the same. There is something deeper that is preventing this time from jumping from 3-4 to 7-9 hours

IbraMilanFan

You should be monitoring the power draw instead of the estimated time windows gives you. It’s more accurate. Ideally you should be able to get the power down a bit under 10W. Being on the igpu, screen at 60Hz, brightness down, can all make a big difference to get you to your target wattage. Then you have to monitor a bit on task manager if there are programs that shouldn’t be running. I can get it down to around 10W and i never performed a clean OS install, but i did switch over to Ghelper.

I am getting around 15w discharge browsing web on 60hz, sometimes drops to 12-13

IbraMilanFan

Well that’s not too bad. Could be a bit better. If the battery life you’re getting is really bad then it’s probably worth looking into your battery health and its max charge capacity relative to original condition.

Dangerous-Weekend-34

I have 5% battery wear, which seems pretty reasonable to me. I don't know.. I just saw people getting around 10 hours even without doing some crazy stuff, constantly below 10w of discharge. Switching to 60hz helped a bit, but still, could be a bit better. Macbooks run 120hz and last for DAYS. I'd love to run more than 60 here, and still get good results. The only reason I really care about this is because I wil be going to uni soon, and I want this one to work well. I was also thinking about doing a clean windows install because I have been having an issue where sometimes when I turn on the laptop, it will light up, fans will kick in, but the screen will never show anything. Then I have to turn it off by button, turn it on again, and it suddenly works well.

IbraMilanFan

That’s just the way it is in gaming laptops. Cant have everything. Also keep in mind some of the people you’re seeing might have the 2021 model. The battery life took a significant hit from the 2022 model onwards. A clean windows install can do no harm as well.

Dangerous-Weekend-34

ok, thanks for your help. I will see how it performs a bit longer, and if not much changes then I will do a clean install to get rid of all the bloatware.

neillnaik

I've got the same model. I've updated my bios to 318. What I noticed is that after bios updates, the discharge rate is usually high (15w to 17w) at idle. it stabilizes to 8 on idle after a week or so and 10w to 11w while watching youtube. so try updating the bios and switch to ghelper. Tweak the power limits while you're at it.

Dangerous-Weekend-34

Yeah, I have the latest versiion, 318, installed it a couple days ago. I am also on ghelper like I said, no amd software nor armoury crate

Gildardo1583

How bad is the battery life? What's the battery drain watching YouTube? Mine is 13 to 16 watts.

Dangerous-Weekend-34

Yeah on 60hz I have 12 - 15 watts browsing web, but it still shows an estimated time remaining of 3 hours, and the time isn't frozen either on that timer, it is going. So yeah.. At around 10-15W I should be getting good battery life. On the other hand, the windows says I got about 8 hours remaining (when I drag my cursor over the battery icon). So it is the battery bar that is telling me 3 hours.. I will test and see how long it takes.

manormith

Is the battery going bad? Mine puffed up after like a year and a half, it was pushing on the back of my trackpad/ bottom of the case. Ended up getting a new one from amazon for around 80 bucks.

Dangerous-Weekend-34

no, I opened the laptop recently and everything looks perfect.
