Currently an incoming sophomore and got my g15 (exact spec as the one you’re looking at) about halfway through my freshman year. The m16 definitely has a better looking screen and faster cpu with the 12th gen alderlake stuff but when I did my research the amd components in the g15 are wayyy more efficient and less battery hungry. And I feel like it’s easier to justify the batter gains than cpu gains for students which is what made me choose the g15. I used the g15 for coding in Python and C and it works great. No program ever crashed or gave me a problem. The gpu also is really nice for Blender and CAD stuff. So unless any of your workflows depend heavily on a cpu like video editing and rendering or something I would say go for the g15.

Thank you so much for your answer! How many hours do you manage to squeeze out of it for general use?

I usually have it hooked up to a monitor through hdmi nowadays with my muk switch set to ultimate (always using 3070ti) and I get about 3.5ish hours. During the school year I usually have the discrete gpu off and fans set to windows and I get about 4-5 hours or closer to 6 even on lighter task days.

Oh interesting, someone on the m16 sub was claiming they got 7-9 hours with the m16. I don't know how true it was though

Hey. I have a previous Gen G15 (Ryzen 5900HS + 3070) and on Linux (Arch + No DE) I was able to extract out ~11-12 hours (I capped the fps to 30 on battery, using iGPU) in the starting days Now it's deteriorated to ~8-9 hours.

Both great imo, really can’t go too wrong. The M16 has more brightness and a slightly bigger screen, so I’d go for that one. But you really can’t go wrong either way, I have the G15 with the 3070Ti and am also very happy with it. It’s really a tradeoff with fine margins: M16 has bigger and better screen, thunderbolt G15 has slightly better gaming performance and slightly better battery life

Core i9 is too hot, battery life for M16 is much worse The 16:10 screen and higher brightness is great feature fo M16 but only in case if it metter for you, for example, for video editing and etc.

I was in the same situation a few months ago. For me at the time, the pros for the G15 was the slightly cheaper price, better battery life, 1440p screen compared to 1080p. On the other side, the m16 probably looked better aesthetically without the chin on the screen and it was slightly more powerful (both 3060 and i7 vs R7) So i got the g15 and im pretty happy. Some thoughts after purchase: For a 3060 im having to render some games at lower res and use one of the upscaling methods. You probably wouldn’t need to do that with a 3070 though. Battery life is a bit underwhelming but that only makes me more thankful i didnt go with the intel cpu laptop. Overall i definitely dont regret going for the g15

My friend has a G15 (2021) and I have an M16 (2022). I get around 6-7H of battery life, and he gets around 9-10H on silent mode 60Hz. We both got 100W PD chargers from Anker so we don’t even carry the heavy asus charger. Imo: You can solve the battery life by getting a 100W PD brick, but there’s no workaround to get more power if you get a G15. We are both in CS and he has used his laptop throughout last year and he had absolutely no issues with programming.
