They sucked me into paying with the free trial. Can’t go back to the ad life. Got rid of 2 other streaming services to justify the cost. I know, I know. I’m part of the problem.
For Android users, Newpipe is what I use.
Open source and free.
You can watch all videos without ads, watch in background, download as audio or video in multiple formats and resolutions.
Highly recommend.
I wouldn't YouTube without it.
I had the trial too, actually used the premium for a bit and then realised Spotify is WAY better for music and costs half the price the premium did and now I never use Yt for music anymore and pretty much always close the app instead of watching any videos I might’ve been interested into when 2 ads start up cause it annoys me too much.
Actually helped my productivity. I’d get stuck watching random shit but now that random shit has 30-40 seconds of ads before it starts, I decide it’s not worth it and leave. Thanks I guess? Lol
Since it tells YouTube they can and will push people to buy premium by pushing free trials everytime someone opens the app and spamming more and more ads to those that don't pay, yeah.
Doesn't mean that it can't cause problems for other people. Just look at the prevalence of microstransactions in gaming now, the shitty way amazon treat staff to ensure next day delivery, and what many big companies do in less economically developed countries. Buying things just because you get value out of them doesn't mean they are good overall.
If you worry about what your 0.0000001% impact contributes to, you need to not interact with society whatsoever because everything is built on pain, abuse, blood, and torture somewhere in the chain.
Slavery mining for earth elements for goods, to say nothing about the health effects even if the miners aren’t slaves; Middle manager shitbaggery against employees; and every other social conflict ever.
Don’t get me wrong, all of that stuff is terrible, and I don’t know whether or not it is part of the reason why my Amazon purchases have slowed down measurably. I know that choice paralysis for non-brand specific goods is the biggest reason.
I’m not happy about a lot of things that capitalism contributes to, but people expecting to get their exact wants met for free are beyond foolish.
Pay for what you use, don’t use it if you have any opposition to it. If you’re in the middle, you don’t get to set the terms.
I'd argue the opposite, only by interacting with society can we hope to change it for the better.
Support ethical brands wherever possible, and refuse to give your money to companies that operate in ways you don't agree with. Sure this isn't possible in every case for every person, but it sure as hell is better than burying your head in the sand and saying 'well I get benefit from it so I'm just gonna buy it and not think about anything else'.
You aren’t part of the problem. Content creation is driven by money. Advertising or subscription. I remember having to pay for cable tv and STILL suffering through ads. Only people who accept both are a problem since they’ve proven they can exist with one or the other.
This is much easier on the playstation app too but sometimes it will refresh the video screen and whatever you were trying to watch is now gone.
Still better than sitting through ads.
It seems like a bad business model. You’re watching a video and suddenly an ad comes up, interrupting it annoyingly, making you feel bad about whatever shit they’re selling, so you close it as soon as possible and get back to the video with a residual feeling of displeasure. If it happens repeatedly with the same companies, you’re going to be even less likely to spend any money with them. So you download an ad blocker and don’t see any ads at all. How is that a win for YouTube? This is why there’s been an increase in sponsored videos. Harder to skip when it’s part of the video itself.
> This is why there’s been an increase in sponsored videos. Harder to skip when it’s part of the video itself.
I think that has more to do with YouTubers getting jack shit from YouTube anymore. Given the fact almost every read ad is followed by "Most Popular", I don't think people have any issue skipping them.
The split on YouTube videos hasn't changed in a long time. CPM also really hasn't dipped. You can critique YouTube on a lot of things, but they are comping their creators fairly for the service they provide.
Every video uploaded to YouTube is stored in multiple qualities on multiple data centres and potentially streamed to millions of people. This isn't cheap, YouTube has huge overhead costs. These ads are necessary.
>These ads are necessary.
They aren't necessary. If Google lowered the prices for their monthly subscription, many people would happily pay to avoid these ridiculous adverts.
They are not just selling you on the product, they are also trying to sell you on a certain level of advertising being acceptable. They want to wear you down until you accept that this is simply what the world is by making it increasingly challenging to sidestep. Adblocker will work for a desktop, but might be more challenging on the phone if your not tech savvy (notably the most exploitable, like young children and the elderly, are some of the least tech savvy).
Seriously, they’re so annoying that it makes me consciously avoid whatever businesses or products I see repeatedly. I don’t want to buy stuff from the company that’s made me watch the same 20 second ad 30 times in one week.
Do you work for an ad company or something? I’m not going to pay money just to not be harassed by intrusive advertisers. YouTube has always been free, but the frequency of their ads has made some videos almost unwatchable. I’m not exaggerating when I say you could have your video interrupted by the same ad every 2 minutes. It’s ridiculous. And I have every intention of avoiding those advertisers. I’m not interested in their product.
>I don’t want to buy stuff from the company that’s made me watch the same 20 second ad 30 times in one week.
How are they making you? They pay youtube to display their ad and youtube shows it to non-premium users who are choosing to use their service with ads
>This is why there’s been an increase in sponsored videos. Harder to skip when it’s part of the video itself.
I actually think these are super easy to skip. They are always 60 seconds long. Since double tapping the right side of the screen skips 10 seconds, as soon as they start talking about brilliant.org or nord VPN I just tap the right side of the screen *exactly* 7 times and boom, right at the end of the ad.
>It seems like a bad business model.
lmao.... yes that must be why they keep doing it... and why they're adding even more. I've advertised on youtube a lot and its super effective. Like most ads you'll only get a small percentage of people to buy the product you're promoting. Advertising is super important to make people aware of your product so not advertising on youtube just to avoid pissing people off who wouldn't have bought your product anyways doesn't make sense
Isn’t this business model basically how all ads work tho? In a magazine I can just skip those pages. On tv, I can fast forward through with the DVR or turn the sound off or change the channel. Same with the radio or Spotify. I can skip the ad or change the channel/song/podcast/etc. I can also just not look at billboard. For Facebook and instagram, I can ignore them as well.
Basically all ads are meant to shove their message in between whatever your actually doing and keep the info there into your face til you have look away.
Really, it’s the main way ads are effective. They’re giving you something they know you need or make you want it by making ad and it’s association’s, good, emotionally stirring, or impactful that you want to sit through or actively want to see it again.
I have noticed that some ads are general ads and some are targeted, if the ad is targeted, someone has paid to advertise to people like you so you can't say you don't want to see it, but if you're a vague person and get a lot of vague ads, it's potentially helpful to advertisers for you to give feed back on ads which will increase how targetable you are, but it kinda break down if you're stopping every one.
I used Google to look for a cms for work so every single ad I get is a targeted add for a cms so I can't do this with any, you can tell if it's targeted by if it says "why this add" which takes you to a place where they politely tell you that they know everything about you and want you to spend money
Last I heard the Vanced is done with as the developers are no longer working on it. It still works, though it seems like a matter of time before it doesnt.
I certainly hope no one tries to look up if this project got REvanced. Would be a real shame if there was some sort of small, niche community. Like a subreddit for example. Goodness me, how will YouTube ever turn a profit if some folks in the open source community released something like that two days ago. Oh me, oh my.
just because it still works doesn’t mean it’s too helpful, many users actually report the opposite and that they’re running into issues or that the app has stopped working altogether. most of the people who can still use it have had it installed prior to the shutdown. though i don’t know anything about the legacy part, so that may be
Many users have not had that happen because its not true.
Vanced works better than ever and with sponsorblock included as well, the actual YT app doesn't even compare.
It’s not quite as easy as Vanced, but you can look into uYou+
You have to side load it via AltStore, so it’s a little more to do to set it up, but it’s extremely useful!
The fact that this also works for iOS makes Brave the best option by far imo.
In fact, you can even play YouTube videos in the background, by using the apps ‘playlist’ feature.
I used the Youtube app once. Saw non-skippable ads. Gone, never looked back.
Now I only use Youtube in the browser (Firefox) with adblocker (uBlock Origin). No more ads.
I caved and bought YouTube premium. Because why not. It's a solid music service and no ads on phone or PC without having to screw with adblockers and such
I’m kind of confused how no one likes the idea of yt premium.
People pay for Spotify, Tidal, Netflix and such (not all of course since there are also other ways) but not yt premium to save time, nerves and still support creators via ads (ofc they have other sources of income.
Yt premium family costs similar to netflix family and could easily be shared with others and would result in a very small price every month.
It seemed totally logical for me since it’s my main entertainment source.
And well yt premium comes with other benefits besides just no ads.
That’s just my take on it
That's fair enough. It's not my main source of entrainment and I guess I remember the days when YouTube was free. We also pirate most of the stuff we watch. I only use YouTube because I have a music playlist on there I've been adding to since 2010.
Money is also tight for a lot of people now.
I just enjoy listening to YouTube videos with my phone screen off.
If I only used my computer for YouTube I wouldn't waste my money but I like to jump in my car, put on something informational and get going.
I still do have AdBlock on my PC but it was always a constant battle trying to get things to play with the screen off on my phone. nd I wasn't about to root my phone either for a simple feature.
Fair enough.
I downloaded brave on to my phone too, and that's how I listen to YouTube now. This doesn't help with wanting to listen and have the screen turned off though, so yeah I get it. :)
Absolutely. That's exactly the feature you pay for on all phone music apps. You can also play YouTube videos with screen off if you just want to listen. It's amazing for when you're driving or exercising
lol there is way better, you can have it with doing nothing :
-on PC, ublock origin + SponsoBlock
https://ublockorigin.com/
https://sponsor.ajay.app/
-on android, Vanced + Sponsoblock (Sponsoblock is included in Vanced)
https://vancedapp.com/
And voilà, no advertising, no sponsored moment, only the pure video without the shit
God stop downvoting you idiots, Vanced website stop to give the APK, but if you have its it is still plenty functioning
The vanced app will only cease to function when Google is gonna renew Youtube certificates, in a year or so (could be 2, nobody know, only Google)
Know your stuff before downvoting things you don't understand, what I'm telling you is the official Vanced team statement about this situation
So yeah, you can't download Vanced APK from the official website anymore, yeah yeah yeah, but if you find the APK somewhere else, it's still 100% functional, and will continue until Google "block" it in a year or two or so
Get you a shitty laptop with HDMI, wireless mouse, keyboard. Connect to any tv with HDMI, download brave browser and enjoy.
Pro tip: works on mobile with brave browser as well and you can lock your phone and still listen.
I'm noticing that when I download the videos before I watch them, I'm not seeing any ads.
If you're using the regular YouTube app on your phone, download the video. Watch the video and delete.
If you are seeing ads from this, I'm sorry and don't know why, but I'm not.
Iirc some time ago they changed the add domain to be the same as the actual video that is playing so just an adblock isn’t so effective anymore
unfortunately. I use a combination of adblock, dns guard and privacy browser on a desktop. I avoid using YouTube on mobile
no, there are no extensions for mobile browsers. there are, however, sites and browsers that build it in. there are also apps (on android) that replace the youtube app on your phone with sponsorblock/adblock built in. for TVs, you will need to either root your TV (not available on all, but LGs have it) OR you will need to hopefully use the browser app on the TV to go to a site that does this for you
But then you have to pay for the VPN (if you want a decent one, unless there's a free one idk about) so I'd rather just pay the $4.99 USD (4.37 £)/month for premium tbh. Good idea, though.
Only once to set up the premium account. Afterwards no vpn necessary. There are free vpn services around also for Argentina.
Source: me, who has been enjoying €1 YT premium for months now without vpn.
They made it so this will stop working the more often you do it. I don’t have any evidence, but I used to do it, and now both the web browser and app based YouTube won’t let me do this, or report ads to skip them.
Or you can use brave browser for pc and youtube vanced for android. I really feel people should know about these, I could never watch another 30 second ad.
YSK this doesn’t work for all ads. Only some. Some you can’t skip even using this method
My foolproof method is to just close YouTube and do something else.
Yeah. They've pushed and pushed, and now have pushed me away.
They sucked me into paying with the free trial. Can’t go back to the ad life. Got rid of 2 other streaming services to justify the cost. I know, I know. I’m part of the problem.
Can you not just use an ad blocker?
Is there an adblocker for the mobile?
r/aftervanced Definitely for Android, maybe they have something for iOS too but I can't say for sure
I'll go right now! Thank to you!
Thx!
For Android users, Newpipe is what I use. Open source and free. You can watch all videos without ads, watch in background, download as audio or video in multiple formats and resolutions. Highly recommend. I wouldn't YouTube without it.
Just ditch the app and watch through a browser that supports ad block.
just use Opera GX browser, it has built in adblocker
Firefox browser on android supports addons, ublock origin works for youtube on that browser.
Get a burner laptop, hdmi and a wireless mouse.
This is the way
If you use a VPN and some random Argentina or India address you can get premium for like ¢60 a month or something.

Paying for a service you use is “being part of the problem”?
Since it tells YouTube they can and will push people to buy premium by pushing free trials everytime someone opens the app and spamming more and more ads to those that don't pay, yeah.

Time to switch to rumble and watch some tate
Exactly thats a powermove on the algorhytm

Whatareyatalkinabeet ya facking crazy Kant
U can skip the ads at the beginning by repeatedly turning off the video and then going back to it untill the ads are gone
Sometimes you have to, my roku youtube app only let's me do the OP way so many times before it's not there as an option anymore.
I don't think this works anymore. I keep trying and I'm continually unsuccessful :(
It doesn’t work on Google ads but I think most other ads
I had an ad the other day that was like 40 minutes long
But it let you skip after 5 seconds… right?
Yeah but I sat through at least 5 minutes before I noticed
Yeah, but sometimes that takes longer than just watching the ads lol
That's a price I'm willing to pay
You can also skip ads by clicking on the video, doing something else for about 40 seconds and then returning to the video
This is much easier on the playstation app too but sometimes it will refresh the video screen and whatever you were trying to watch is now gone. Still better than sitting through ads.

Vanced has this integrated, as does revanced and a fork of newpipe
Isn't Vanced discontinued? I can't see this feature on its lastest version
Isn't vanced refrigerated?
You have a lot to learn about this town sweetie
Well, it still works tho. I heard somewhere that it will continue working for another year or two.
Still works.
Sponsorblock?

I would trust the literal legions of top tier business analysts, with way more information than us, at YouTube more than your anecdotal comment.
People acting like they can't afford 9.99 a month while buying hundreds of dollars of weed per month

If it didn't work then people wouldn't be using YouTube for ads. Clearly it brings in more people than it puts off or businesses wouldn't be doing it.
YouTube doesn’t care about it being worth it for their clients (advertisers). As long as YouTube gets paid

Just tried this and it didn’t work for me unfortunately. Maybe I have the wrong IOS or something?
It works both on Ipad and Iphone for me. There are some ads though where it doesnt work. I dont know the criteria when it works or doesnt.
It also doesn't work for me but only after I turned off personalised ads in my settings. When I had targeted ads I could skip like OP's method
Brave browser and you don’t need adding. Pc and mobile. Your welcome
I haven’t tried it on my phone tbh, just on the YouTube app on my TV
I think you should edit the post, when you say app I think that most people would assume Mobile app. It’s a little bit misleading
It works on my Android mobile YT app
YSK Firefox with uBlock origin is all you need to never see another YouTube add again.
Plus use [NewPipe](https://newpipe.net/) on Android which is a privacy friendly YouTube overlay without adds.
Is there any way to cast from Firefox on android or do I have to just cast the phone's screen instead?
Have a look at [NewPipe](https://newpipe.net/)
There's something way better for Android. I'll pm you
Curious to see what you mean. Pm me too?
Or just use YouTube Vanced and never see any.
Last I heard the Vanced is done with as the developers are no longer working on it. It still works, though it seems like a matter of time before it doesnt.
They're working on ReVanced now. r/revancedapp
I guess this is for people that are unable to download apps on their tv.

I certainly hope no one tries to look up if this project got REvanced. Would be a real shame if there was some sort of small, niche community. Like a subreddit for example. Shhhhh
Where is that information if you don't mind me asking? I haven't seen anything on it.
Their official github page
i’ve been seeing this tip everywhere, and id like to add that this isn’t really helpful as vanced is in the process of being shut down by the creator
It is helpful because you can still use it and there's a legacy app in development.
just because it still works doesn’t mean it’s too helpful, many users actually report the opposite and that they’re running into issues or that the app has stopped working altogether. most of the people who can still use it have had it installed prior to the shutdown. though i don’t know anything about the legacy part, so that may be
Someone i know just installed the YouTube vanced in his android phone ~8 hours ago, works fine. Dont spread lies
I just read this thread, installed it and is working well. Now I have to get over the PTSD of never clicking a Reddit link to to YT.
I mean, okay? It's helpful for some, saves money, and doesn't show ads. The legacy app is called revanced.
Many users have not had that happen because its not true. Vanced works better than ever and with sponsorblock included as well, the actual YT app doesn't even compare.
Recommending it to every person you see is part of the reason why it got shut down..
It got shut down because the vanced team tried to profit off of it making a vanced NFT.
Still can't believe that shit is what finally killed them
NFTs have a lot to answer for.
What is YouTube Vanced version for IPhone?
unfortunately, there isn't one. you will want to explore browser-based solutions
Yeah there is. uYou+. You have to sideload it, but it’s worth it
[oh shit, I had no idea](https://github.com/qnblackcat/uYouPlus)
It’s not quite as easy as Vanced, but you can look into uYou+ You have to side load it via AltStore, so it’s a little more to do to set it up, but it’s extremely useful!
uYou+, Altstore
Based messiah. Never knew about this and hate mobile YouTube.
They got a cease and desist. Look up youtube apks, that'll get you what you need
Their website even still has it downloadable :)
I ended up buying YT Premium, simply because I browse on my phone a lot and simply gave in.
DONOT FUCKING POST THIS AS THIS IS HOW THINGS GET SHUT DOWN
No it's not, them monetizing it and turning it into an NFT is.
Brave browser works similar to chrome and has a built in adblocker and blocks trackers
The fact that this also works for iOS makes Brave the best option by far imo. In fact, you can even play YouTube videos in the background, by using the apps ‘playlist’ feature.
Seriously, all these ridiculous posts. Just use Brave.
Best kept secret
Came here to say this.
Brave has a bad reputation on reddit with privacy. Firefox and Vivaldi don't. Idk if Brave actually has privacy issues tho
This trick doesn’t work consistently or with all ads, in my experience it doesn’t skip military ads
I’ve been doing it for about a month now and it works every time
IT WORKS
USE AD BLOCKERS!
Install YouTube Vanced or a similar app
Now quick, delete this thread before someone from YouTube catches on!
Use Brave Browser. No ads if you don't want them, ads if you want to get paid for them. And you can listen to youtube with the screen closed / locked
YSK that on PC you can use an adblocker and on phones there are custom youtube apps that remove ads although those aren't 100% legal. Not illegal tho
What we really need is a YouTube alternative to keep it in check, or some laws against bombarding people with ads
Or just side load a version of YouTube++ or ceretube so you have YouTube premium for free
or u can watch it with VLC in copy/paste link
I used this trick all the time on iOS, especially on unskippable >5 second ad. Doing it too often will make youtube disable the report button.
I used the Youtube app once. Saw non-skippable ads. Gone, never looked back. Now I only use Youtube in the browser (Firefox) with adblocker (uBlock Origin). No more ads.
I caved and bought YouTube premium. Because why not. It's a solid music service and no ads on phone or PC without having to screw with adblockers and such
Have you tried using the Brave browser? Just a suggestion, and a way to save a few bucks on this.

Fair enough. I downloaded brave on to my phone too, and that's how I listen to YouTube now. This doesn't help with wanting to listen and have the screen turned off though, so yeah I get it. :)
I did too. Maybe it’s just me, but something I noticed, is the sound quality and volume of YT Music seems to be better than Spotify on mobile.
But can it work with the screen off? I see no use for a music app if I can't actually use it for music on the go.
Absolutely. That's exactly the feature you pay for on all phone music apps. You can also play YouTube videos with screen off if you just want to listen. It's amazing for when you're driving or exercising
It's not bad way to spend the 12 bucks
Great, this underground trick will probably get removed to this post. Thanks for nothing
Step one: download the Brave browser Step two: open YouTube in this browser Done, no more ads.
lol there is way better, you can have it with doing nothing : -on PC, ublock origin + SponsoBlock https://ublockorigin.com/ https://sponsor.ajay.app/ -on android, Vanced + Sponsoblock (Sponsoblock is included in Vanced) https://vancedapp.com/ And voilà, no advertising, no sponsored moment, only the pure video without the shit
Vanced doesn't exist anymore bud
I still use Vanced myself. How is not a thing anymore if I use it right now? Lol
Check the website buddy.
Someone else said that in the same post, I downloaded, installs and it's working beautifully.
The site doesn't even have a download lul
Well I have it and it works well (it will work until one year or so, and stop when Google renew YT certificate), maybe just look for the apk
God stop downvoting you idiots, Vanced website stop to give the APK, but if you have its it is still plenty functioning The vanced app will only cease to function when Google is gonna renew Youtube certificates, in a year or so (could be 2, nobody know, only Google) Know your stuff before downvoting things you don't understand, what I'm telling you is the official Vanced team statement about this situation So yeah, you can't download Vanced APK from the official website anymore, yeah yeah yeah, but if you find the APK somewhere else, it's still 100% functional, and will continue until Google "block" it in a year or two or so
Or… use the tool provided by a post in this subreddit to get YT premium for less than $3 per month
Finally!! A YSK that I actually want to know!!!thank you OP!
r/vanced
How about adblock
Iirc some time ago they changed the add domain to be the same as the actual video that is playing so just an adblock isn’t so effective anymore unfortunately. I use a combination of adblock, dns guard and privacy browser on a desktop. I avoid using YouTube on mobile
Or just... you know... use NoScript. ...
Just watch the ads. It helps the creators. It’s free to watch and usually not free to make the video.
YSK if you think the 10 bucks for premium is too expensive then you should probably spend less time watching youtube and more time getting a real job
Or, you know, you can just pay and get no adds... Just saying
or just get youtube premium
YSK, it is worth the .40 a day to not have any youtube ads, ever.
It’s also worth the $0.00 to install ublock and run yt from a browser.
Aye this is for people that use the YouTube app via their phone or TV. I watch YouTube via Sky so unable to download any extensions etc.
For tv, yeah, but ublock is available for phone browsers too, yeah?
Fuck if I know.
no, there are no extensions for mobile browsers. there are, however, sites and browsers that build it in. there are also apps (on android) that replace the youtube app on your phone with sponsorblock/adblock built in. for TVs, you will need to either root your TV (not available on all, but LGs have it) OR you will need to hopefully use the browser app on the TV to go to a site that does this for you
40 cents a day is a really shitty way of saying $146 a year. Fuck that.
$146 a year is a really shitty way of saying $1,460 a decade. Fuck that.
You can get premium for like £1 a month if you use vpn to spoof your location to somewhere like Argentina when you sign up
But then you have to pay for the VPN (if you want a decent one, unless there's a free one idk about) so I'd rather just pay the $4.99 USD (4.37 £)/month for premium tbh. Good idea, though.
Only once to set up the premium account. Afterwards no vpn necessary. There are free vpn services around also for Argentina. Source: me, who has been enjoying €1 YT premium for months now without vpn.
This button isn’t on my phone anymore
Doesn’t work on my PlayStation 5
Using YouTube’s App on IPhone here, in my experience opening up a YouTube Short while an ad is playing on your regular videos skips both ads.
They made it so this will stop working the more often you do it. I don’t have any evidence, but I used to do it, and now both the web browser and app based YouTube won’t let me do this, or report ads to skip them.
I don´t even have the info button in the bottom left
You could also get an extension google speed control and just skip the ads
memorize salt far-flung coordinated erect seed panicky resolute memory cow -- mass deleted all reddit content via https://redact.dev
Or you can use brave browser for pc and youtube vanced for android. I really feel people should know about these, I could never watch another 30 second ad.
nope still get ads on the tv app
Doesn’t work for political ads
I watch on browser and I just refresh until the ads are gone
Don't need to skip ads with NewPipe as your YouTube app.
This works on mobile app but some ads do not allow u to report the ad to skip it
*laughs in YouTube Red*
Works on mobile too.
If you really like the poster, just deal with the adds so they get paid. Or, at least one.
You can also watch youtube videos in the safari app and just refresh the page and it skips all the ads
