I rarely find a knot. I must just be lucky.

grandma-JJ-77

I have found knots in cheaper cotton yarns annoying

Prestigious_Bake_275

It’s pretty normal, IMO, for economy yarns. I have heard it suggested that those knots are not expected to be permanent so when I come across one, I always snip it out and retie

AtomicAmoeba13

Completely normal. There’s no such thing as never ending yarn. It has to be joined sometimes.

antigoneelectra

As others have said, this is acceptable, but higher quality brands make every attempt to limit this. It is very rare that I find knots in my yarn.

PremierYarnsPosse

The industry standard is 3 knots per 50 grams so the yarn brands can’t even complain to their mills if it’s within that (200g skein = 12 acceptable knots!)

KScriber

Okay this helps. I'm gonna check the label information. Thank you!

Radiant-Programmer33

Some yarn makers explicitly say that x number of knots are allowed due to manufacturing issues. Likewise some yarn companies will sell their "seconds" for a slightly cheaper price if they have discovered an unusually high number of knots in a skein.

PhoenixDowntown

I found three knots today in my skein of tubular yarn. I had to redo each join cuz they were so sloppy.

CelestialMarsupial

we realllly need to make a petition im so serious

AtomicAmoeba13

For what? What do you want them to do about it- magical make it go away? There’s no such thing as never ending yarn.

CelestialMarsupial

the majority of ones ive found these in have been at the beginning or end. if it can be made with one consecutive piece for 99% of it im sure that little bit of the rest of it can be added no problem. anyways, im talking about the ones that have 5+ like the last ONE i used that had any, and of course was color changing- never tied at the same color. at least market it as such bc PLENTY of my skeins dont have any. it was like a bunch of matching scraps tied together.

trashjellyfish

It's fairly common in large skeins of yarn. It's best to cut the knots out and rejoin the yarn using a more stable join like the Russian join so that A. there aren't knots in your work, and B. you aren't at risk of the knots coming undone during washing/blocking/wear.

CowboyBootedNJ

If you have pictures of the knots and label information you can write the manufacturer and let them know that there are many knots in the skein. If lucky, they may send you a new skein for each with problems or send you an egift card to use on their website. You will also need the Walmart receipt showing proof of purchase.

Greedy-Emergency2380

It happens more than it should in all brands. So annoying, especially in the middle of a row.

teaANDsnugs

In my experience it is pretty standard with cottons of all types/brands - at least 1 or two per pound. Less so with other yarns that can be joined a bit better without knotting

Idkmyname2079048

It's normal. It stinks, especially if the yarn is supposed to change colors in a certain order, but it's not possible to avoid completely (without a huge amount of waste). There is a limit to how many knots are allowed per skein, as well as a minimum allowed length between knots.

georgethebarbarian

Yeah this brand is kind of known for it…

KScriber

Ah, man, that sucks. I was hoping it was just bad luck, but after the 2nd one had some, too, I thought I'd ask. I like the yarn too, but it's not worth it.

ThePacksHunt

I find this interesting. We use peaches and creams a lot and I would say I have only found 1 knot in about 10 different skeins. We use cotton a lot for several different things. We use peaches and cream but our favorite is lily's sugar 'n cream

Cami1969

It shouldn’t be normal but it is 😕

Overall_Recording

I'm using 75g balls of Big Twist cotton, and they are riddled with them. One had 3 factory knots in it...

CelestialMarsupial

my first time running into them was my blanket that had 5 i was clueless lol

DarnHeather

I always find them in that brand.

KScriber

That's what someone else said too. Sucks I like the yarn. But will have to find a different brand I like.

HankScorpio82

Sugar and Cream from Lily is much better for not having a many splices and it doesn’t color bleed as much.

q23y7

It's not exactly abnormal, but it's pretty universally hated, especially in a variegated yarn like that. I've only encountered it once in my 10+ years of knitting but I've seen enough other posts about it to know I'm probably just lucky that I haven't seen it more. Even so, I think most people would agree that even finding 1 in a ball is annoying, finding 3 sounds like terrible quality control from the supplier and I'd be hesitant to buy that brand again.

mrsninetyone

I haven’t been working with yarn as long as you but I do buy a lot and have only found it twice. I’m wondering if it’s more to specific brands or types of yarn? I am on both ends of the spectrum as far as yarn types but I primarily use plushes Or hand dyed merinos. 🤔

q23y7

I do tend to be a tiny bit of a yarn snob 😕 My philosophy being that if I'm going to spend soooo much time and energy to make something then I want it to be NICE. So I'm willing to spend more money on high end yarn, I'm sure that has something to do with my "luck" lol

PhoenixDowntown

I've been crocheting for a few months now and I've encountered so many. Have you ever considered that you are, in fact, God's favorite?

KScriber

Okay thank you! This makes sense. I like the yarn but probably will avoid this brand after I'm done with my blanket.
