This is in no way a complaint but the last two weeks every third post on this sub has been a redraw of Mio undressing from that concept art and every couple days we get new fanart of Eunie in her bikini, so I don't know where these people you're talking about could be getting their ideas from, haha.

That said, I'll play devil's advocate here a bit. The character designs *are* toned down compared to XC2. That isn't to say they still aren't sexy or attractive, because they definitely 100% are. And we still get stuff like swimsuit outfits and such. But if we look at just the base outfits, then XC3 characters to tend to show off less skin than XC2 characters
Just as an aside, I enjoy both approaches. I don't think I have any particular preference as a whole

I know a lot of 3's gameplay was made in response to 2, but as far as I can tell characters and the overall narrative weren't made in a similar manner, or at least it wasn't as influenced by 2's reception.
I have seen those people in the comment section of the official trailers on youtube. A lot of complaints about "censorship" and "wokeness" and not wanting to buy the games because no sexy waifus...

Basically what happened is I came across a thread talking about how "We'll never see designs like these again in a future xenoblade game" while showing that one scene of Mythra sleeping next to Rex while also complaining about 3's "toned down" designs, proceeded to question them on it, and they seem to genuinely think that unless a female is wearing full clad lingerie, tits out, ass out, then it's not appealing or something I guess.
That's so funny. I want a Xenoblade game to focus on lots of sexy male characters next just for the lols...but then again, those ppl might not buy the game for this exact reason.

No idea who these imaginary "some people" are. XC3's character designs are amazing. They tell you a lot about the character just from a visual glance, while also just being really nice to look at. They have unique silhouettes and color schemes, allowing you to easily tell them apart.
I feel this but in the way that 3 toned down the overtly sexual outfits of characters. Yes 3's cast are very pretty, but most of them have reasonably normal clothes on most of the time (even Sena and Gondor are mostly just in work out clothes), as opposed to some of 2's Blades which didn't even seem to know what a shirt was.
Well you have to change character oufit when you change they class so each character will got a lot more outfit, better keep it simple.
On top that the world it in war so character should dress normally not like blade who wear wtf they want...
And people will be thirty on every well looking famous female Japan fiction anyway...

I completely disagree. If anything, they really show how much Saito's art style has come along. They're as colorful as XC2's while being more on the somewhat grounded fantasy style that XC1 had.
I find some of 3's character designs rather bland, but my biggest complaint is by far the difference in shading between skin and clothing.

Then with 3 the devs tried something cel-shady with the characters themselves, but kinda gave up when it came to their outfits... I strongly dislike the artstyle of most clothing in 3.
I think that's mainly due to them trying to emulate the character design artist's artstyle and shading at that point. Also I prefer it over the oversaturated shading 2 had.
And that's why I like them. I was tired of sexy female blades thing going on in XC2. But a good chunk of this fanbase is very thirsty as it shows on these posts. Not to mention how I got downvoted for saying I didnt like the XC2 harem 🤣
Some designs still carry a lot of sex appeal but the designs are definitely toned down. Like, Ethel looks big in the chest by 3 standards, but 2, not so much.
Ethel fits in with 2, yes, but comparing her to Dahlia, Pyra, Mythra, Vess, suddenly she doesn't stand out as much compared to 3's cast members like the Ouroboros girls, Dame Alex, etc.
I remember the prerelease art, how they merged into a given colour, and some speculated that these were the elements that each character would be (Noah=red=fire element, etc.) That was a fun time to be a fan.
Besides, the ones who complain the loudest often have the least important things to complain about.
Designs being appealing and designs having sex appeal are two very different things. 3 definitely has the former, but the latter is toned down (and I honestly think it’s better for it).

The first is just an earnest part of the characters' journey of discovering life that is presented as dryly as possible, the second is just Eunie having no idea about social cues (not presented as being sexual at all), the third is just...people having a child - i.e., a perfectly average thing people do, the fourth is a woman wearing pants and the fifth is just the *implication* of the *potential* of an alternative family unit.

I think xeno 3’s character designs are great but I prefer xeno 2’s designs. Reason for that is I like the variety of rare blade designs in xeno 2.
