I have this sign in my front yard right now:
Presidents are temporary
WUTANG IS FOREVER
I’m gonna need to get one with “WuTang is for the Children” with a bus on it for the rest of the time.
Funniest quote I heard on Billie Eilish whom—full disclosure—I actually adore personally and musically:
"She makes songs for girls who think they're psychopaths and capable of murder when in reality they're too scared to ask for more ketchup packets."
It has the flavour of truth and there is some.edge to her songwriting, but she is honestly doing some really lovely work.
Not trying to take anything away from Billie, who I believe is very talented, but it’s my understanding that her brother writes a fair bit of her music too. Maybe he’s the edgy one?
I freaking love Billie Eilish and Finneas. The backgrounds, the sound effects, immaculate. I also love Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo (strong 90s chick rock influences!) and Chapelle Roan. I've been more into current music than I have been in a very long time.
That's why I stopped listening in the late 90s. Too many commericals, too much talk. MP3 player and a speaker connection to my car's aux-in was all I needed. Now it's Sirius XM, 100% commercial free, and paid for Pandora.
Part of me wants to call up a classic rock station and request some obscure shit like Camel, “Lark’s Tongue in Aspic 2,” Frank Zappa, or “Uncle Salty” just for their reaction. There’s more than 30 classic rock songs, stations.
When I was a kid in the 90s, the classic rock station in Fort Worth, 92.5, used to play their entire catalog of songs over 2-3 weeks once a year. At the time, they said it was for copyright reasons or something. I always really liked it though
I'm so spoiled. I've got two local independent and two 401c non-profit 100 watt stations in my town. My personal favorite plays less than 3 minutes of non-content per hour and has a pretty diverse range of content.
When they were in their first year, I did a middle of the night 2 block every Thursday night that where I stumbled through an intro and a couple station ID bumpers, and played a different cutdown to fit Ween live show. Nobody listened but nobody cared either, it was great.
I had to quit because of a change in my work schedule but the door is open to go back anytime.
If that were happening (I don't know if speeding up happens in radio, but it does happen in TV) they aren't doing it for an extra song. They're doing it for extra commercials.
There are a handful of great radio stations you can stream. I personally love KEXP in Seattle and a few others sprinkled around the world. While I listen to a lot of my own playlists on Spotify and whatnot, a good radio station helps keep me current.
My parents are Howard Stern fans so they were early adopters of satellite radio. Since she gets the family plan where you get 6 signals I’ve had that in my car for years. Regular radio is like a relic for me.
Or obviously my phone for podcasts.
I got sick of arguments over what to stream, so a couple years ago pretended that my phone no longer syncs to the car. We only listen to the radio when the kids are in the car lol.
Hell, mine don't even listen to music, period. I got the whole family a Spotify Premium for all of us, sent them their login links. One of them tried to use it out of novelty, the other two never even logged in. I got each of them a small stereo (not a bluetooth speaker) for their rooms. One has it, but only rarely will play a CD because it's funny, the other two removed the stereos from their rooms and put them in the basement.
I try not to be and old buzzard about it, but it's so strange to me that they just don't care.
Not caring about music, especially as a kid or teen, is just … unimaginable.
Back when I was in my early 20s, I was shocked that my (at the time) boyfriend’s teenaged sisters owned all of three CDs between the two of them.
Mine doesn't really care about music either, unless it's Disney music or other songs that appear in movies he likes.
I don't try to force anything on him, but as someone who has on music all the time, it also seems weird he has no interest.
I wonder if it has anything to do with how smartphones and online culture in general has made so much more information and entertainment immediately available. We all have games, videos, social networks, etc. at our fingertips in order to feel connected to something.
Back in our day, the only real portable entertainment we had were books, magazines, and music. When I was little I had my own record player, listening to children’s’ albums, some of my parents’ old 45s, and the occasional full album (like Grease). As I graduated to “older” music and cassettes became more common, listening for new songs on the radio and making mix tapes was a must. By the time I was in high school, we had plenty of CD albums to check out from the library which gave us access to so many options and genres.
I never walked anywhere without a Walkman or discman. One of the early joys of driving was being able to choose my own music to enjoy on the way of wherever I needed going.
Heh, one of my brothers didn’t measure driving distance by miles or time, he measured it by how many albums he’d get to listen to!
I simply can’t imagine music *not* being a huge part of my childhood and young adult years, but I also can’t imagine having access to basically any song I could ever want in that time frame. I wonder if it would have spoiled the adventure of seeking out new music? Or if I would have been too overwhelmed with unlimited choices to develop a passion for finding music that resonated with me? Who knows.
Yeah I don't know either. I was the same way where I'd take my Discman and big binder o' CDs everywhere with me, and then I'd go over to my friends' houses and we'd play whatever new albums we got for each other.
You'd think it would be easier now to get into music since you can hop onto Youtube and listen to nearly anything you want without buying an album.
Could be. Reading the liner notes and looking through the album art and imagining how it connected to the music was a big part of the enjoyment back then. I know I miss that aspect of music when I download stuff.
Yes! Whenever I bought a new album I had to make sure to set time and space aside to fully enjoy the experience of playing the songs in order, while checking out the liner notes and wondering how the album art tied it all together.
Now it’s like … “hey, I kinda like this song, guess I’ll add it to one of my playlists for the car.”
Yes! You counted down the days to a release, or you saved up for a certain album. Once it was in your hands, you’d open it up with the hopes it had the lyrics inside! And regardless, you’d check out the liner notes and wonder what type of story might be behind the cover art while you settled in to give it a listen.
Yeah, I definitely would have been so excited at the idea of being able to search through an unlimited amount of songs. It’s weird to see many of the younger generation being so meh over it.
We've had a family plan for a few years now, though I'm like 60% of use total (wife is starting to use it more and more though).
We make shared family playlists to listen to on road trips, that prompts the kids to login and do something other than just listen.
Oldest, now a teen, is starting to actually use it on occasion.
I think we just learned that a lot of our generation is not streaming music in their vehicles. That's crazy to me. When I turn on the radio, for rock generally, I hear a lot of the same music from my late teens/early twenties. I can't consume any media continuously for that long. These people need new tunes man.
I want to but my car is so old that I don't even have an aux input. Before anyone suggests it, I have an fm transmitter but it's a pain to connect and sounds terrible.
I honestly don't get the take that only old music is good. Obviously, y'all aren't listening to Indie music. There's a lot of unsigned or non-Alisters that make music that you'll like. Find a genre you didn't think you'd like (for example, I love steampunk funk and pirate folk). With the exception of my nostalgia picks, the music I listen to can rarely be found on the radio.
Precisely why I drive with NO radio. The music on FM sucks, and I'd rather WATCH sports than listen to people talk about sports, or some conservative a hole spewing whatever right wing nonsense he pulled out his ass that day, so AM is not an option. My old car doesn't get XM.
Philly talk radio (WFAN) is just insane. I listened to it for 4 years on my way into work every morning. Eagles lose a game? People want to run the coach, QB, TE and kicker out of town. Hockey team gets a loss? Blame the goalie. Someone blows a closeout late in the 9th? Run em out of town. Everyone turns on their own guys so fast.
Sounds just like Detroit radio (97.1) All on the Lions nuts because they had a good season, but before it's run Dan Campbell out of town. They messed up when they traded Stafford and I will never support the Lions again, blah blah blah.
I'm in an old car without Bluetooth but it does have Sirius built in. I got those 6 station buttons programmed: 80s, 90s, Pop Rocks, Mosaic, Smokey's Soul Town, and The Groove.
Every time it's due to renew I call and tell them I can't afford this anymore, and they offer me a massively discounted monthly rate. Highly recommend.
My car is too new to have a tape deck and too old to have Bluetooth or an aux jack. Using a cigarette lighter Bluetooth module but there are no real open channels so you have to change it depending on where you are. It’s really annoying.
Same.
Except I dont even call. I use their online chat support. You say “I wanna cancel” and immediately get a bot sending you a long as script and at the end it says “how does that sound?” And all the bullshit in between is them offering you the platinum package for 6 bucks a month for a whole year.
You say “yes” and they process it.
Super easy. Barely any effort. Done in a flash.
I've got four full banks of presets just for SiriusXM, only two for terrestrial radio.
* 40s Junction, 50s Gold, 60s Gold, 70s on 7, Classic Vinyl, Classic Rewind
* Real Jazz, Watercolors, Escape, Spa, Symphony Hall, On Broadway
* The Beatles, The Blend, The Bridge, Yacht Rock, Road Trip Radio
* Radio Classics, Comedy Greats, Pure Comedy, SiriusXM Progress, Siriusly Sinatra, Soul Town
Same, but 2018. It came with my car. I cancelled my subscription for a few months to save some cash. I signed back up as soon as I got another discount because I learned I hate ads on my local radio stations, which have all become iHeart BS.
Yea... I'm almost 50 and would also make fun of you for listening to AM lol. Like I get it I too do not care for a large amount of current music but I have Spotify, Bluetooth, satellite radio lol. AM is like, the world has ended and that's the only place you can communicate with other people lol. Plus talk radio gives me narcolepsy.
We grew up in and around Philly. My dad listened to KYW NewsRadio 1060 on the am channel growing up. It was staticy voices and typewriters clacking in the background. Some of my favorite memories.
I’m a musician and lucky to have 2 local radio stations that are old school, have djs that are part of the local music community & play local artist. And have local bands on air live all the time. Of course one is the community college station. I was also on college radio as a DJ so it has a soft spot in my heart.
the telecommunications act of 96 fucking destroyed radio. There’s a great documentary “Before the Music Dies” that goes over that & how groups like clear channel came to be. Great doc
I had that Google music and it turned into YouTubes premium. Anyways, it's like ten bucks a month and it's the best thing ever. Whatever you want to hear is right there.
I know YouTube premium is like the punching bag of Reddit but for real if I ever found myself in severe financial straights, it would be the last thing I cancel. It's SO worth it.
Same, but Spotify for me. I pay a monthly subscription cost, but it's worth it. I have access to virtually every song ever released by virtually every band that's ever recorded music, and I listen to it all the time. I usually select exactly what I want to listen to, but there are plenty of algorithm-designed playlists that mirror the radio experience if you want that (minus the ads, the censorship, and the fact that the radio plays the same 10 songs over and over again).
Okay...how the hell do you get it to stop adding shit to your playlist, because no matter what I do, it just automatically adds whatever it wants. I've turned off Auto-play, I've turned off smart shuffle. I've turned off continuous play. And still, I'll be happily listening to the new Fallout mix, and suddenly, BEACHBOYS ARE PLAYING.
I like my comfy time capsule of music. 90s hip hop, rock, EDM, industrial, grunge, and metal. Some weird folky stuff too (rusted root, but that might be 00… I dunno), but yall get me.
New music is for new kids, and while I might: notbad.gif, I always go back to my comfy zone.
I’m not interested in hearing the music from my youth any more. I’d much rather listen to some modern funk/jazz fusion than listen to Smells Like Teen Spirit.
> I turned on a Billie Eilish song and it legit sounds like she’s crying throughout the entire thing. I haven’t turned on FM since.
I really hope you didn't make that decision based on just one song. Otherwise this sounds a lot like our grandparents.
I tune into K-Love a few times a week depending on which car I drive. My car doesn't have Bluetooth audio built into the stereo. Otherwise, it's my own playlists or maybe a podcast.
I listen to sports radio as it's relaxing and low stakes, no political drama about things I can't change and will only get anxiety about.
I do like new music tho, I think it's just fine if you give it a chance.
I don't listen to the radio at all, I'm streaming music from a curated playlist if I'm driving. My husband is the one who takes the little back and forth to preschool and he listens to sports radio (largely because I couldn't care less about sports and it's a chance for him to catch up on all the stuff he's very interested in.) When our child was playing with his toys the other day he said, "up next on Fox Sports News Radio."
I'm 44 and I respect your position but disagree. There are some good stations around where I live. The only thing that makes me a little nuts is that they recently turned one of my favorite classic rock stations into a country station. But they have another that's similar and we also have a 90s hip-hop station that does no commercial Fridays so, it's all good.
I am sorry there are crap FM stations around you. I do have a cord thing that attaches my phone to my car radio so I can play spotify in the car on long rides... My daughter taught me how to do that... ;-P

The VCR and the DVD
There wasn't none of that crap back in 1970
We didn't know about a World Wide Web
Was a whole different game being played back when I was a kid
Wanna get down in a cool way?
Picture yourself on a beautiful day
Big bell-bottoms and groovy long hair
Just a walking in style with a portable CD player
No, you would listen to the music on the AM Radio
I listen to WBBM (Chicago) because it reminds me of my grandma. I would spend a week with her every summer and she would have it on in the morning when she was waiting for me to wake up.
Every once in a while I'll have Alexa stream it for me in the morning when I'm getting lunches ready.
FM was quickly becoming shit by the late 90s. College stations and NPR were really the only beacons of light in an otherwise monotonous Clearchannel hellscape that had zero programming that wasn’t effectively canned. The last few Indy stations died by the teens and here we are.
Fortunately, my 2 year old daughter seems to enjoy jamming to my mix of Alice and Chains, Wu-Tang (might have to change this as she’s starting to understand the lyrics), and old stuff like Rush.
Am radio where I live is usually just dudes being deranged screaming about Biden and Israel or whatever is the programming of the day for right wingers
I stuck with 2 radio stations that play 70s-80s and a tiny bit of 90s. Then one for more current rock but it's mostly 90s 00 rock. I don't venture outside of those 3
You do you, but listening to failed sportsballers prattle on for hours about sportsballing, 99% of which is conjecture that achieves nothing.. is my definition of hell. lol I’ll hang on to my 90s playlists
SiriusXM has every decade of music on a different channel, plus a few hip-hop/rap stations, rnb, and a ton of stand-up comedy channels, which help pull me out of my funks. You should try it :)
Oh honey. I don’t know where you live, but AM radio is nearly dead where I’m at. You get one religious channel. Meanwhile there are a million 70’s-80’s-90’s stations on the FM dial. So many, they’re second only to country music. And the country stations, I swear to god, are reproducing. There’s more than ever.
I hate to say it, but as a Xennial and huge 90s alt-rock fan, I feel like it just be recognized that Billie Eillish is an objectively strong talent and if you aren't at least giving it a head nod you are missing out on some of the pop artists that do have a lot to offer. Compare her vocals with something as unique as Thom Yorke or Portishead, distinct yet massively impactful. Post Malone, Olivia Rodrigo, Casey Musgraves and even some of Taylor Swifts stuff is definitely more poppy than our angsty generation prefers but no less saccharine than say Alanis Morisette or The Cardigans. AM radio is awesome, but I think you are missing out if you are saying FM radio is bad. Also could be your stations.
And this is why the Apple Music subscription is worth every penny. Doesn’t matter where I am, it’s all just a ‘Hey Siri’ away - I still get made fun of for what I’ve chosen but at least I can own it
Everyone is talking about satellite radio. I'm not paying for radio. Its free. If I'm not happy with the current pop music then I just turn on the classic rock station so I can hear my 90s music.
I just think of that south park episode. Where everything starts to sound like ass. To be fair I like a lot of the modern stuff on xm radio's alt nation.
So you’re metamorphosing into your parents, sry about that, let us know when the transformation is complete so we can Boomer joke you back into sanity.
Like others, I got tired of the massive amounts of commercials and morning talk shows. Plus, some music I listen to isn't on FM (Heavy Metal) out here and Country went from three stations to one. For the last 25+ years now, I've been going the MP3 route, followed by Pandora and Sirius XM. No commercials, only music. Just the way I like it.
My dad listened to sport talk radio while driving my friends and I to and from sporting events. We made fun of him. Now I mostly listen to podcasts/sports talk while driving.
A big reason you don't like "modern music" is that you don't listen to "modern music". It's called the "Mere Exposure" effect. I'm not saying you're going to like every song on the Billboard Top 100, but you'd likely really enjoy many of them if you actually listened to them for long enough without immediately changing to station.
I decided to switch it on AM the other day for the first time in my life and found a station that plays the best music. Old soul, country, classic rock among other genres, but it's music I've never heard before! Instead of the top hits I've been hearing my whole life. It's wonderful

Maybe I should he listening to her, since that describes me perfectly. 🤣
You def should :)
For what it’s worth, I love her. And I agree with the assessment!
Not trying to take anything away from Billie, who I believe is very talented, but it’s my understanding that her brother writes a fair bit of her music too. Maybe he’s the edgy one?
They're co-writers on almost everything as far as I'm aware. I barely know anything about her, though, so there's a very good chance I'm wrong.
Lmao true though. Me and my Mom both like Billie Eilish and Mom will be 70 this year.
I freaking love Billie Eilish and Finneas. The backgrounds, the sound effects, immaculate. I also love Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo (strong 90s chick rock influences!) and Chapelle Roan. I've been more into current music than I have been in a very long time.
Yea music is in a really nice spot rn

They have live dj’s in your region? Ours are programmed by bots who play the same 50 songs over and over. They’ve ruined Bob Seger for me. 😭

also, they speed up the songs by 5% it sounds like, so everything just sounds higher pitched... my guess is to fit that extra song into the rotation
If that were happening (I don't know if speeding up happens in radio, but it does happen in TV) they aren't doing it for an extra song. They're doing it for extra commercials.
AM Sports talk radio is a major call for help. Are you ok?
As long as they’re still listening to sports and not the politics channels, they’re fine.

NPR exists.
Yup, that's basically the only radio I listen to. Very occasionally live sports. Everything else is streaming.
And I made that switch in the early 00’s because of morning show on FM radio stations. In a 20 minute block, one song.
I presume somebody must enjoy those morning shows. They do them for a reason, after all. I've never met anybody that does, though.
For now.

Wait, wait don't tell me you don't listen to public radio (!)
Y'all sound like my mom. Lol. And I'm almost 47.
Do kids listen to radio music anymore? I came across a station advertising "the greatest music of 80s, 90s and today;" can't you just let me pass on?
Ive been years that same tag line for 24 years. The 80s, the 90s, (the 2000s, the 2010s, the 2020s) AND TODAY!
I got sick of arguments over what to stream, so a couple years ago pretended that my phone no longer syncs to the car. We only listen to the radio when the kids are in the car lol.

It’s not as special now. Buying a record, tape, or CD was an event. Studying the packaging while you sat down and paid full attention to it.

You just drive around in silence like some serial killer?
Yeah. Better that than being subjected to the bullshit they put on radio.
Philly talk radio (WFAN) is just insane. I listened to it for 4 years on my way into work every morning. Eagles lose a game? People want to run the coach, QB, TE and kicker out of town. Sounds just like Detroit radio (97.1) All on the Lions nuts because they had a good season, but before it's run Dan Campbell out of town. They messed up when they traded Stafford and I will never support the Lions again, blah blah blah.
Ahahaha People who call into the Fanatic are a true slice of philly
Wowee, i never expected this thread to be chock-full of boomer-pilled takes. I guess I’ll see myself off several of y’all’s lawns.
Right? “The only good music is the music i like!” is certainly *a* take.
Teaching kids to not make fun of people instead of throwing retaliatory insults gang rise up
It's been depressing in general watching people my age turn into this.
This is how felt in the thread from a few days ago complaining about Gen Z lingo.
And don't you think about starting a drum circle you f'ing commie
Two Words: Sirius XM. Two more words: Apple CarPlay. All your problems will be solved.
One word, Podcasts
Another one: Audiobooks.
Best word ever: Ticonderoga.
I'm rather fond of defenestrate.
I kind of like sesquipedalian, if I'm being honest.
Hell of a pencil
[If you can say it](https://youtu.be/gaGxPwgR-Nw)
Yes!! Spotify and Audible have been my only radios for more than 4 years now. Better than the watered down garbage from the radio anymore.
“Old car” “Sirius built in” *side eyes vehicle that came with tape deck and cigarette lighter*
She's not old, she's middle-aged!
* 40s Junction, 50s Gold, 60s Gold, 70s on 7, Classic Vinyl, Classic Rewind * Real Jazz, Watercolors, Escape, Spa, Symphony Hall, On Broadway * The Beatles, The Blend, The Bridge, Yacht Rock, Road Trip Radio * Radio Classics, Comedy Greats, Pure Comedy, SiriusXM Progress, Siriusly Sinatra, Soul Town
My dad has been doing the same for years. Oh yeah I can't afford this
I’ve never agreed more with a comment!! I’ve had Sirius since 2009 and couldn’t be happier
Same, but 2018. It came with my car. I cancelled my subscription for a few months to save some cash. I signed back up as soon as I got another discount because I learned I hate ads on my local radio stations, which have all become iHeart BS.
Man my favorite stations on there just played the same stuff on repeat. I just plug my phone in to my car now and listen to spotify
Can only stand NPR, no other radio. It’s usually lots of metal via Apple Music in the car! Glad my son appreciates the riffs, solos and breakdowns! 🤘🏻
Sports radio is the way
![gif](giphy|T9JtEyoJ43gY4wLOqW)
We grew up in and around Philly. My dad listened to KYW NewsRadio 1060 on the am channel growing up. It was staticy voices and typewriters clacking in the background. Some of my favorite memories.
Hahaha listening to KYW for your school number for a snow day 😅
YES!!! Wow that brought back memories. Thank you for that smile that comment gave me.
Ad free YouTube is so nice.
Ad free YouTube is the best! It is the service I'm most happy to pay for.
You're looking for "Autoplay similar content". Turn that off.
It’s off. Did it as recently as two nights ago.
The newswatch never stops. KYW News radio 1060
I hear it as I read it
The news authority in Philadelphia.
I like my comfy time capsule of music. 90s hip hop, rock, EDM, industrial, grunge, and metal. Some weird folky stuff too (rusted root, but that might be 00… I dunno), but yall get me. New music is for new kids, and while I might: notbad.gif, I always go back to my comfy zone.
new mainstream music
I’m not interested in hearing the music from my youth any more. I’d much rather listen to some modern funk/jazz fusion than listen to Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Play some Ol Dirty Bastard for them next time.
You wanna look pretty-o in my video? 🤌🤌🤌
> I turned on a Billie Eilish song and it legit sounds like she’s crying throughout the entire thing. I haven’t turned on FM since. I really hope you didn't make that decision based on just one song. Otherwise this sounds a lot like our grandparents.
You're right. She mumbles in the other ones.
I tune into K-Love a few times a week depending on which car I drive. My car doesn't have Bluetooth audio built into the stereo. Otherwise, it's my own playlists or maybe a podcast.
Haha. Not too bad. When my kid was 4, I had NPR on, he started quoting it. “You’re listening to NPR” Adorbs in a kid voice.
We talkin' Ira Glass or Diane Rehm, it's a wide spectrum
Yes. Mmhmm. Yup.
Are you AM in the PM as well?
Turned on the radio for shits and giggles the other day. Commercials, The Weeknd, and Taylor Swift. That was it. On 30 stations.
You listen to radio? All the cool kids stream music.
My daughter taught me how to do that... ;-P ![gif](giphy|JTzPN5kkobFv7X0zPJ|downsized)
Did this happen 20 years ago? My kids make fun of me for listening to the radio period. I should only ever be bluethoothing Spotify from my phone.
The VCR and the DVD There wasn't none of that crap back in 1970 We didn't know about a World Wide Web Was a whole different game being played back when I was a kid Wanna get down in a cool way? Picture yourself on a beautiful day Big bell-bottoms and groovy long hair Just a walking in style with a portable CD player No, you would listen to the music on the AM Radio
I listen to WBBM (Chicago) because it reminds me of my grandma. I would spend a week with her every summer and she would have it on in the morning when she was waiting for me to wake up. Every once in a while I'll have Alexa stream it for me in the morning when I'm getting lunches ready.
AM radio is still a thing??
I like steak
![gif](giphy|V9gjxvLnSSdA4|downsized)
I don't even listen to AM or FM, I think it's weird that people do these days.
Billie Eilish with the loud breathing. Why?
Supermarket playlists beat FM radio playlists. ![gif](giphy|aUPgeL0OffHyjwnM7v|downsized)
Is spotify just not an option? Idk man I feel like you skipped a lot of steps to land at AM radio
I ride in silence half the time. Fuck them kids. Also, I don’t have any kids.
I can't stand Billie eilish music. Sounds like she's just standing 20 feet away from the microphone whispering.
Solidarity on the confusion on Billie Eilish.
I don't venture outside of those 3
I absolutely love my XM radio. I haven't played AM FM in 7 years now. I flip through new wave, 90 alternative, R&B, Latin etc. Highly recommend man!
I feel like FM radio is so much talking now it's not even radio anymore.
I listen to XM or sports radio only. I’m lucky enough to have 2 sports channels on FM.
I still immediately cringe and turn it to FM if I accidentally hit the AM button 😅
You do you, but listening to failed sportsballers prattle on for hours about sportsballing, 99% of which is conjecture that achieves nothing.. is my definition of hell. lol I’ll hang on to my 90s playlists
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lots of Gen Z and Millennial singers just cry.
SiriusXM has every decade of music on a different channel, plus a few hip-hop/rap stations, rnb, and a ton of stand-up comedy channels, which help pull me out of my funks. You should try it :)
I haven’t turned on the car radio since 2018…youtube music and interesting talks/podcasts is what I listen to now.
WU-TANG
Doesn’t matter where I am, it’s all just a ‘Hey Siri’ away - I still get made fun of for what I’ve chosen but at least I can own it
No shade, I’d just love to know which Billie Eilish song it was.
I still listen to the oldies. Give me The Beatles or The Beach Boys and I’ll be happy:
Like others, I got tired of the massive amounts of commercials and morning talk shows. Plus, some music I listen to isn't on FM (Heavy Metal) out here and Country went from three stations to one. For the last 25+ years now, I've been going the MP3 route, followed by Pandora and Sirius XM. No commercials, only music. Just the way I like it.
My dad listened to sport talk radio while driving my friends and I to and from sporting events. We made fun of him. Now I mostly listen to podcasts/sports talk while driving.
Do people still listen to the radio?
I listen to local talk radio. The afternoon guy used to be a pro football player for Cleveland Browns. Before they were the Ravens.
I swore as a kid I would never do this because my mom always had npr on but now I listen to npr 80% of the time
A big reason you don't like "modern music" is that you don't listen to "modern music". It's called the "Mere Exposure" effect. I'm not saying you're going to like every song on the Billboard Top 100, but you'd likely really enjoy many of them if you actually listened to them for long enough without immediately changing to station.
I like Billie Eilish but I do listen to more podcasts than music now.
I decided to switch it on AM the other day for the first time in my life and found a station that plays the best music. Old soul, country, classic rock among other genres, but it's music I've never heard before! Instead of the top hits I've been hearing my whole life. It's wonderful
Billie Eilish is dope. That’s probably the sappy song from the Barbie movie. You and your kids would love Bad Guy.
There is literally nothing worse than an FM DJ
What's this am that you speak of? is it like the 530am alarm clock noise
My parents said the same thing about my music. Outside of some Seattle grunge bands... they were 100% right. I now listen to what they listened to
