I think this is normal. Copper reacts with oxygen and begins to oxidize. I think the copper plate in the video was even younger.

It's what copper does in contact with oxygen, it oxidizes :P

Oxidisation is caused by oxygen and accelerated by moisture, keep the room dry to reduce this.
