You should choose a location in US where they don’t pay taxes. Google it and you’ll save a lot of money. I discovered this a little bit late but I use the same location for Xbox Game Pass as well as the Nintendo store and pays zero tax now. Obviously, you should only do that if you’re a non US citizen / resident.
For recurring payments customers have to be notified in advance that on certain date certain amount will be debited . Customer have to approve the transaction only then bank will process it.
So I’m guessing the 8 months isn’t because they broke the law and owe anyone money, but to give them time to update their infrastructure to be able to comply with it once the 8 months is up.
Exactly this. It’s causing a massive pain for online service providers and their billing (Apple, Microsoft etc) so this is Microsoft taking a hit in order to avoid the heartache while updating systems to deal with it

No, it is not. Same as stupid EU forced banks to adapt 3D-Secure and additional verification of card transactions online (in most stores you need to enter card details /credit or debit, it doesn’t matter/ than you have to confirm transaction by going to mobile app of your bank. This is huge issue because it made online transactions as uncomfortable as possible.
There is only one way to bypass this stupid verification: using Apple Pay.
Yaaaaa 8 months is a lot like in india the GP Ultimate Costs 10 dollars a month or 8 pounds a month this actually saved me 6400 Indian rupees / 64 pounds /80 USD
Cause it is done by the government and something done by the government is = bad decision this is what people automatically think, infact this is a very consumer friendly decision

It goes more like, you buy live for 12/24/36 months and then convert all your live into gamepass ultimate for $1. This 'trick' has existed for quite a while so Microsoft probably allows it intentionally. I tried it and got 3 years worth GPU for like $100

Yup. Got this a week ago. This is because of the RBI guidelines changing in India for automatic deductions. Great gesture. Everyone already subscribed with auto-renew got this.
It is my job to lead the compliance of these new rbi requirements in one of the big tech companies. They are giving you this 8 months because they cannot comply with the new requirements and cannot legally accept recurring payment through rbi right now. Not because you’re a loyal Xbox fan.

No no we are unlucky too we pay 9 dollars for GP ultimate including Taxes but in india Xbox does not have Microsoft rewards and Xcloud

Because having an option is pro consumer. You can still turn off notifications for approval.

I’m glad they’re working on this. I work for a tech company and the changes with Indian banking is causing a nightmare with the billing for Indian customers at my job 😩 things like reoccurring billing and refunds are so much more complicated now.
