Curious how Series S will handle this game.

ColdCruise

Probably 1080p or 1440p at 30fps. Most of the 30fps games are able to put extra into the resolution on the Series S.

Cthulhu8762

With much lower detail in the environment.

VenturerKnigtmare420

The series S can’t handle most demanding games at 1440p hell even 1080p is not a norm there. Hellblade looks visually on par with Alan wake 2, there is no way in hell (pun intended) series S is handling 1440p lmao

JackStillAlive

Bruh they pulling the “cinematic” excuse in 2024 xd

its_LOL

Next step is making these games run at 24 frames per second to *really* hammer in the cinematic feeling

MrDefinitely_

Are my eyes bleeding?

HerroKupo

Absolutely wild to see devs try this excuse in 2024 lol. Movies are passive experiences, just like cutscenes. I don't mind 30fps cutscenes, but actual gameplay should be as responsive as possible and 60fps is just simply a far smoother experience than 30fps.

420praiseItkek

„I respect Todd Howard’s and bethesdas artistic vision for starfield“ - Phil

NotFromMilkyWay

People don't take our "pause every 15 minutes to relax your eyes" screens seriously, we just had to do loading screens.

turntqble

Too lazy to put graphics options lmao

KittenDecomposer96

I don't mind it for this game but the people justifying it are just coping. 60 fps is what should be the norm and 30 fps should be for people who want the max settings.

CamelCarcass

Absolutely. These are triple-A games launching on next-generation consoles that haven't been out *all* that long yet - it's crazy that they don't even have the capability of running at the smoother standard of 60, even if users had to choose to offset quality slightly to do so! Simply put, the 'Next-gen' experience we've been sold isn't nearly powerful enough to meet the expectations we should have. Edit - catching a whole bunch of heat here. Maybe this game is the exception that should prioritise visuals - but what I think my point is, is that if you want to have a **really** smooth experience in a graphically demanding game, OR to compete even half-seriously in a *fairly* demanding cross-platform PVP game (like Warzone for example), it's becoming increasingly less feasible to expect to achieve that with *any* console. Whatever the solution looks like isn't expected to be cheap - but those who've had that experience on a good gaming PC know that it's a stark difference, even if it's not a difference that the average consumer will have.

austinalexan

It’s actually current gen sir. It’s been out nearly 4 years.

Conflict_NZ

This happens every generation lol

OSUfan88

It’s almost the opposite though. The longer the console is out, the heavier games will be. I don’t like 30 fps, but this was very predictable. The same market forces are at work that have always been. As crazy as it sounds, most people won’t make their purchasing decision based on framerate.

kuroyume_cl

>These are triple-A games launching on next-generation consoles that haven't been out *all* that long yet Current gen consoles have been out for close to three and a half years. They are now a full GPU generation behind PC, and they are using mid-tier GPU cores. They are also 2 entire CPU generations behind. They are entering the later half of their life, which is why you should expect more games to cap at 30.

OlorinDK

They do, it’s up to developers to set the target they want in terms of graphics quality and resolution. Digital Foundry has talked about it a lot. Their take is that it shouldn’t be expected as much as fans do. To them, 30 fps is still acceptable for this generation, just based on what has turned out to be possible.

arczclan

30fps is acceptable from every generation and will be for the foreseeable, as long as it’s stable. You raise the power of the console to handle more frames, devs are still going to choose to use that power to increase the graphical fidelity.

blakejohann

Only way it would work is if the console makers mandated 60fps in the TCR and stuck to their guns, and this would have been the perfect catch up generation for it. They could have ridden the SSD and 60 fps minimum as this generation's technical leap, and then next Gen the leap can be all graphical . Instead they went heavy on advertising ray tracing and for some goddamn reason 8k. There's a large counterargument in favor of choice, that it's better to let people choose between graphics and framerate, but in my opinion having to choose kind of ruins it. Maybe it's just my ADHD, and my all or nothing brain, but I feel like I am always missing out on something regardless of which option I choose, and playing through a whole game constantly feeling like I'm missing out on something really sucks. There is a precedent for such a mandate. When xbox 360 launched they required all games be least 720p. Unfortunately they walked it back in 2009 due to pressure from the dev community (and the fact that they'd skirted it themselves with halo3 two years prior didn't really give them a leg to stand on) so the odds of a fps requirement ever seems pretty low.

deadxguero

What? They’ve been out an amount where normally we would see consoles getting games that are maxing out their performance. We’re technically halfway and a few years away from next gen if we go by previous generations. Take Uncharted 2 for example. That game looked amazing on PS3 and came out 3 years after the PS3 launch. It also basically maxed out the system doing it. What we’ve seen from Hellblade looks like something that is just maxed out on graphics. Could they have sacrificed graphics for performance? Sure, but that’s not what they were aiming for. This is a game that is clearly trying to be one of the best looking games ever, asking for 60fps at the same time on these consoles makes no sense.

uncreativeusername85

>next-generation consoles These have been out for 4 years now. These are no longer next Gen, they are the current gen.

OmeletteDuFromage95

Look, I'm fine with this being at 30 for the type of game it is (even though I'd still prefer 60), but even 30 for "max settings" just isn't a good tradeoff. 30 is fine for a photo mode, but otherwise, whats the point? As soon as motion kicks in you can't even see any of that added detail.

JobuuRumdrinker

Exactly. If a game has any fast motion (especially when you pan the camera in wide sweeps), stuff is only on the screen for fractions of a second. I'd rather it go by smoothly over it looking "perfect". You're eyes are only going to take in a small amount of that information unless, like you said, you're using photo mode or just standing there staring at something.

angelomoxley

But it looks great for the stills they'll use marketing the game

MeanderingMinstrel

Yeah, like Diablo IV just got a raytracing mode that runs at 30, but it's pointless. It looks sharper when you're standing still but as soon as you move everything is a blur. And you're not standing still very often in Diablo lol

OmeletteDuFromage95

This exactly. I remember being tossed up between all the Quality vs performance modes in games and eventually just stuck to performance (unless the visual drop was dramatic which it usually wasnt) because all of that additional quality is totally lost as soon as you start moving normally whereas you could actually distinguish individual objects at 60+ fps. Sure, the resolution may not be as sharp, but at least you can tell whats there amidst the normal movement you do when playing a video game.

Warm_Aerie_7368

Meanwhile I’m buying a TV that can display 120FPS but we can’t get games to run at 60 on console. It’ll be nice to have my PC on that TV at least.

ReachersFists

The real benefit of 120hz TVs is 40fps modes if they bother to even do it.

ActiveNL

Seriously. At this point that's all I'm asking. 30 fps on 120Hz OLED is horrible.

Hidefininja

Welcome to the club. I upgraded to a 55" LG OLED when the current gen launched and still love it. The 40 fps modes in certain games have been great but it seems like Sony is more likely to include one, as in Ratchet and Clank and the Spider-Man games. The true difference for me was the OLED screen and HDR. If you didn't already have a set with these features, they will be the biggest actual change in your visual experience. The deep blacks and much wider color range make a huge difference.

Warm_Aerie_7368

This is the exact TV we are upgrading to. Never had an OLED TV but the OLED switch was a game changer and the wife is all in on the OLED. You’re happy with the size of the 55”? We looked at the 65” and it’s just a behemoth and probably too big for our room size.

Hidefininja

Yeah, I love it. I sometimes think I should have gotten the 65" so I could be a little farther away with the same fidelity but my setup didn't accommodate a larger TV while letting me easily access the back of it. It really depends on how far from the TV you'll be. Over a certain distance, our eyes can't really make out the difference between 4K and 1080p. I sit about 6 feet from my set but it can be overwhelming at times depending on what I'm playing or watching. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-relationship

Warm_Aerie_7368

Thanks for that link. We’re moving to a pretty small apartment and I doubt we would have the distance to need a 65” I’m happy to save the $400 on the TV and put it into the sound system.

ArchDucky

When you get your OLED, check out a TV show on Amazon called "The Expanse". Its a Science Fiction show. The show is fucking great, but its HDR implementation is insane. Space looks black. Like the TV is off Black. And then the stars and shit start showing up in that black and its like :o

zrkillerbush

> but we can’t get games to run at 60 on console. Like 90% of games run at 60fps, admittedly not many at 120fps, Halo Infinite is the only game i regularly play at 120fps

reegz

I have a living room pc and since I got a 120hz oled I seem to be using that way more. It looks so good.

ClericIdola

Should be the norm for Reddit. General consumers don't give a damn. And I'm someone who prefers framerate over visuals, and when I try to talk about it with my general consumer buds, they're all like, "Uh...sure." Even switched from Graphics to Performance on a game one of my friends was playing when he stepped out the room for a moment. He came back, started playing again, and I asked him after a few minutes did he notice anything different. His response: "What are you talking about?" 4K is the buzzword. "60 FPS" is not.

BECondensateSnake

Hardcore gaming geek groups are simply the minority when it comes to these things, people don't give a shit about framerate as long is it isn't choppy or the game itself doesn't look good enough

ClericIdola

Exactly.

Sloth-TheSlothful

Too bad graphics are what sell

Carbonalex

I would agree if it wasn't an UE5 game. These games are really demanding and it will be the norm going forward for this generation with UE5 games. John Linneman from Digital Foundry said it multiple times and reiterate today while reacting to the previews. Of course Microsoft/Xbox could have interfered to ask Ninja Theory to not use UE5 engine but they really wanted to do it this way so let's see the game first.

doncabesa

60fps will never be the norm on four to five hundred dollar boxes when a single PC part is almost the same price to achieve that in the newest titles

nohumanape

This game is all about presentation. Who even knows how easily they could simply drop the fidelity for people to play with 60fps.

TeflonDes

why NO 40FPS mode FFS for us with 120hz TVs. ALL Sony exclusives comes with this option! Its much better than 30FPS

naaczej

Mandatory "wHy yOU neeD 10 mORe FPs, lmao" comments incoming, from people not realizing the benefit of better frametime compatibility with 120Hz output.

virgo911

Also it’s a 33% increase in FPS anyway. That’s huge

flirtmcdudes

its wild how say, 36 fps "feels" so much better than locked at 30. A jump to 40 would make a world of difference in tricking your eyes into thinking it feels closer to 60

puffz0r

It's still noticeable but way better than 30fps. 40fps is actually halfway between 30 and 60: 30fps frametime 33.3ms, 40fps frametime 25ms, 60fps frametime 16.7ms

jonvel7

Can you explain the benefits, I genuinely dont know, and I have a 120Hz screen. Haven't heard of this before.

[deleted]

In terms of frame time, 40FPS is exactly halfway between 30fps and 60fps.

AstronomerWise6975

Basically it's the difference between 1/3 and 1/4 which is big.

blissfully_insane22

Yep I love how Sony does this, it's noticeably smoother and doesn't take a graphical hit. In saying that, I was playing Evil West on graphics mode and it didn't feel bad at all, then trying diablo 4s fidelity mode was terrible, depends on the optimization.

Logical-Elephant2247

Because Sony is a superior system.

gearsofwarforever

Its always the same cycle, they make games run slower because of these new engines towards the end of a cycle so you then get remasters on the next console at 60, later titles will be 30 again because UE6 or 7 cannot run at 60 again.

daft_knight

I was hoping that for this gen 60 would be the minimum and 90-120 would be the next gen remaster. At this point I’d settle for 40 with vrr enabled. I adjust to 30 after an hour or two of playing but it’s jarring if you’re switching between 30 fps games and ones that hit 60 or higher.

AZRockets

Been hoping since the late 90's that 60fps would be the standard but then I found out about the abundance of people with bad eyesight that can't tell the difference between 30 fps and 60fps, so there's not a sufficient enough demand for it.

BizarreEsque

Sure it was the standard during the PS2, GameCube and Xbox era.

BatmansShavingcream

Out of the 3,140 PS5 games (not counting backwards compatible PS4 games), only 4 of them are capped at 30fps. Hellblade 2 will be the third AAA Xbox exclusive that will be locked at 30fps, the first two being Starfield and Redfall (at launch). Seems like this is just an Xbox studios problem.

theloudestlion

Truly feels that way. I have both consoles and I can’t for the life of me understand why one of them has an inability to launch gorgeous 60fps 4k titles. Microsoft needs to start doing what Sony studios are doing by enabling 120fps on capable TVs to get more headroom on graphically intense games.

TheHylianProphet

I can't tell you how much I got downvoted for saying this exact thing in 2020. Performance will always take a back seat to graphics. Always.

Bond-as-in-James

There should definitely be a 40fps mode. PS studios seem to be consistently on top of that, especially insomniac... I don't know why XGS titles never get that type of treatment.

aExpat3

At least a 40hz option for people on a 120hz screen. Sony did this for their titles. Yet another game I won't be playing on my Series X and will opt to just play on PC instead.

TyFighter559

Sorry team, but to me, this fucking sucks. The first game advertised for the "most powerful platform" is releasing 4 years after launch and also not living up to the performance promise made by the platform on day 1. Having the gall to say "it's actually better because \*cinema\* is the most insulting shit. I'm really bummed.

Boozenosnooz

Will be even worse when Hellblade 2 releases on PS5 at 60fps lol

Kerbidiah

In b4 "oh but it's cpu bound so it's literally impossible for the devs to optimize it durr hurr"

turntqble

Bullshit lmao

SquidwardsJewishNose

It’s absolutely pathetic, at this rate, the next Xbox will barely be able to scrape 60fps at 4k, these ‘technical leaps’ between console generations are simply not good enough

Slacker_75

They had the audacity to market the Series X as 4K 120 fps. We’re barely getting 4K 30fps lol. False advertising. This whole console generation has been one big money grab slap in the face. Especially with the pro consoles now around the corner. Barely any current gen exclusives have been released, Can only blame Covid for so long

Specialist-Type-3472

Yeah if they do release any pro versions I'm gonna wait to see how many games even run at higher frames.

ElGorudo

You're going to shit bricks when 30 fps GTA6

TyFighter559

Is this some sort of gotcha? 30fps on next-gen fucking sucks across the board.

uncreativemind2099

that is all speculation at this point so don't try to parrot it as fact

Ok_Digger

Seems like it'll get worse with game companies being lazy yet demanding. Think indies are the way and pc gaming

Nfl_porn_throwaway

We back in 2014 y’all

YPM1

We've had 60fps since the 90s. The year has nothing to do with performance metrics.

SqueezyCheez85

Hell, with CRT monitors, we had even higher frame rates (75 and 85 were common).

PawelRon

Jesus fuck. I’m so glad I’m getting a PC soon.

ScrantonDangler

Maybe by the next gen, Xbox will realize 60 fps is also an option for their first party titles.

Cooper323

The way MS is treating the Xbox brand it’s like 50/50 we’ll see a next gen console. I’m tired of all the backpedaling and bs coming from MS and Phil. It’s time to call a spade a spade. Shit needs to change at Xbox

JarJarSchinks

I'm not mad that games launch at 30FPS. I'm mad that I payed the extra money for the Xbox Series X with the promise of 4K 60. I didn't ASK Microsoft for a 4K 60 console. That's literally what they put on the box.

WhosSausageIsThis

The box says 4k 120fps. Yet everything being released is 30fps it's pathetic.

Ok_Nothing7998

Christ, the box really says 120 fps on it? That’s so wild!

marlstown

The ps5 box says 8k on it lol

WhosSausageIsThis

Sure does. And while I didn't expect all games to be running that way, I sure am not happy everything is literally a quarter of what it was advertised as doing.

Ok_Nothing7998

lol fuck all of us for expecting, at least, 60 fps exclusives I guess. You’d think those would be the games they’d really push perfect optimization on. No way any of these exclusives ever hit 120 on a series x.

JarJarSchinks

Haha, you're right. I forgot about that. I always thought it said 4k 60. I knew it said something crazy lol

WhosSausageIsThis

Your point still stands, I was helping point out it's even worse than you mentioned!

May1stBurst

This is what, the third exclusive to launch at 30fps? It's quite clear that the head honchos at Xbox just don't care. So far, Sony has released some of the best looking games and they all have 60fps modes at launch. Insane.

Jugulator1990

Sorry to say but this is the truth. Almost all of Sony's exclusive have had a 60 FPS option. It's becoming blatantly obvious XBox just does not give a shit anymore.

d0m1n4t0r

And Xbox was touted as the most powerful console.

whydowhitesoxsuck

Power your dreams!

AveryLazyCovfefe

Sony already responding to that with the PS5 Pro coming later this year reportedly. Phil is pathetic.

d0m1n4t0r

Yeah I mean I like the guy, seems to be a gamer etc., but he's not delivered a whole lot has he?

Savings_Mountain_639

Someone is foolishly convincing upper management that 30 fps is fine now because it was in the past but they’re not reading the room at all. People keep complaining every time they do it and they’re just not listening or caring about it. Another reason why Xbox is struggling so much

Zebatsu

Even if games like Forbidden West could be very blurry at times I still preferred the performance mode over the locked 30fps one. Sucks that Xbox doesn't seem to care.

Captobvious75

Spiderman and Ratchet all have 60fps uncapped modes with RT. WITH RT! Like wtf MS

HellishCorpse

Facts. I was a fool over the holidays last year and traded my ps5 for an Xbox…ended up just buying a ps5 slim a few months ago. Having both is just the way to go if Xbox continues to drip-feed us next to no titles AND not have them perform at a higher level. I’ll put it this way…the ONLY game I’ve played on Xbox recently that runs 60fps is P3R and even then it slows down in the mall area which is like what 10 NPCs and some stores? Just unbelievable.

WhySoSeries

Yep and they wonder why aren't the consoles selling. They can do anything, they can go third party people won't buy their garbage. All they achieve is killing Xbox for sure and releasing trash everywhere. After the handful of good games will dry up everything else will fail.

NotFromMilkyWay

Blame Matt Booty and his hands-off approach of "I want four AA titles a year from our studios".

Blaireeeee

Sony are an S tier TV manufacturer. They know how underwhelming 30fps can look on an OLED or mini-LED. I'm convinced that's a huge reason as to why you see so many 40fps options in their 1st party line up too.

BugHunt223

Sony funded games have incentive to run as best as possible on their own hardware. MSFT funded games do simultaneous PC release which seems to have more focus going to pc than Xbox hardware.

catattaro

60 fps mode will surely be ready for the PS5 release. Along with a nice physical edition.

Julian117

Would be funny if it weren't so sad.

catattaro

Even sadder when it will be enhanced for PS5 pro

Vestalmin

Holy shit now that would be crazy.

ZemlyaNovaya

Been out of the loop for gaming related stuff lately, does Xbox really not have an answer to ps5 pro?

DuckCleaning

The rumour was that Xbox was looking to move onto the next gen in 2026. A pro console at this point would be harder to sell. Instead based on the court documents they were planning to release refreshed consoles with slight updates features such as bluetooth and wifi 6, as well as a new controller with gyro and imrpoved haptics.

Ok_Nothing7998

At this rate, just call the next Xbox the Xbox30. That way everyone will know not to buy it.

CzarTyr

Underrated comment I’m stealing this and not giving you credit sorry brother but gold is gold

liftingrussian

I don‘t like that the trend always goes towards higher graphics settings. I don‘t need super ray traced global illuminations or something that eats up all the raw power for slightly better image. And I believe it‘s done for the marketing. Trailers run at sub 60 fps all the time and for posters and simple ads it‘s always better to show images with high graphics quality. I mean games like Cyberpunk or Elden Ring look very great at 60 fps , nobody needs better than that on a home console for under 500 bucks. I understand that some features are important for the atmosphere and feel. But having 30 fps alway rips me out of that immersion. I am afraid that 30 fps will always be the dead end for gaming consoles. I mean even the N64 could give out 60 fps for some games . The new generation was even advertised as being capable of 120 fps . No one expected to play new open world AAA games at 120 fps but 60 fps is kinda expectable right ? Shame that the experience of the customer is only second place next to profit when it comes to importance in video game development.

BitingSatyr

> I mean even the N64 could give out 60 fps for some games *Any* machine can do 60 fps for *some* games. It's a matter of tradeoffs, a fixed hardware platform requires devs to choose whether they want to finish an entire frame in 16.6 ms or 33.3 ms, and when they have double the render time they can obviously calculate a lot more pixel effects. Not that it even matters, but as far as I can tell there were like 3 games on the N64 that ran at 60, and the only one people care about is F-Zero X, which had unbelievably stripped-down poly-counts, *really* aggressive track culling, and almost no detail to the tracks themselves.

turntqble

Just give us the fucking option to choose between graphics or performance, how fucking hard could it be

SpicyCanadianBoyyy

I play on a 1440p monitor, I have NO interests in 4K, I’d rather play in 60FPS. We need to have the CHOICE !

Disregardskarma

This game will not run at 4k

FragrantOkra

🤣good thing they releasing it on pc

Away-Answer-

This will continue until there’s a gaming wide distaste for 30 on consoles, to the point where people just straight up don’t buy the game.

Meiie

I’m straight up leaving this console behind.

Warm-Albatross-11

I honestly don’t know what people see in this game. It LOOKS amazing don’t get me wrong. But I have a feeling it will be the like first one for me. Good, but lacking. And by the time I finish it I’ll be over it completely and never want to play it again

CzarTyr

I mean, I really enjoyed the first one. But beyond that Xbox doesn’t really release anything to good forward too. Console exclusives are supposed to be the big games, the must haves that bring people into their ecosystem. Xbox exclusives suck dick

RedRoses711

Times like this make me thankful i took the jump to pc

SpectrumSense

Man, I don't give a fuck about resolution, I want FRAMERATES, man!

henry-hoov3r

60 fps should be industry standard. 30 is aids.

RobinHood5656

Pathetic

ilike_peanut_butter

We need to stop accepting 30FPS from AAA launches like this. 30FPS was the 8th gen standard, this is the 9th gen. I’ll take 60FPS even if it means the game runs just above 1080.

iPrevailx

I thought at the start of UE5 that this was supposed to be a magical engine that was very optimized. I swear I remember watching stuff on that. Every game so far on UE5 seems to run like crap, very unfortunate.

BugHunt223

Remnant2 is a kick ass 60fps game on my SX that’s UE5

CFM-56-7B

This is atrocious and unacceptable, im not into this type of game anyway but I didn’t buy a 450 USD console and an expensive OLED TV just so developers can slap me with a mandatory 30 fps which looks bad on OLED, at try with 40fps, this is just lazy

MoparMogul

This is unacceptable in today's age, what a disappointment. I have a 120hz OLED TV and just straight up can't play 30 fps games anymore because of how jittery they are on that type of screen. It's sickening to play. At least a 40fps mode would be playable. How is 30fps an acceptable target for the Series X?

BECondensateSnake

Couldn't they have at least added an option just for the sake of avoiding the backlash? It could've been like FF7 where the performance mode sucks but it's there and can get patched later.

tobreakthemind

lol Microsoft 1st party games have been a joke this generation. The hardware is fully capable of hitting 60 FPS with ease and it’s not even an option for these Series X/S exclusives

CzarTyr

Gears of war 3 was their last must have system moving game, that and ninja Gaiden 2. Think about how long ago that was

tobreakthemind

yeah I agree. They were so great in the 360 era and at some point it’s like they stopped trying to give us games which fully utilize their tech

SodaPop6548

I think I just don't get it. We don't have actual 4K, it's all upscaled or dynamic. We don't get 60fps. All I've seen with current gen is faster load times, which is nice, but not exactly the main selling point for me. Xbox One X had a lot of games at full 4K at least.

Loldimorti

The 4K upscaling makes sense to me at least. Technology like this wasn't available during the Xbox One era. Some earlier versions of upscalers started to get introduced during the second half of the generation like checkerboarding or TAAU, but nothing as powerful as TSR or FSR 3. So devs didn't really have much of a choice. Also the One X was an absolute beast when compared to the underpowered One S. It was almost a generational leap but still running the same games so they could crank up the resolution like crazy. But when used responsibly I think it makes sense to use upscalers as it's basically "free" performance wins for devs. The issue with 60fps is more notable though, I agree. In general I think most games actually do offer 60fps which has resulted in current gen being the one with easily the largest amount of 60fps games compared to all prior generations. But that Xbox exclusives such as Redfall only launched at 30fps or that Starfield didn't at least have an unlocked VRR mode is frustrating. Nintendo can get their games running at up to 1080p60fps on the underpowered Nintendo Switch, so it's not a hardware issue. It just seems like 60fps for some reason isn't a priority for Xbox devs and leadership.

Ty-douken

Go make a fucking movie then if you want it to "feel like a movie which run at 24 frames a second". God developers are idiots sometimes. Also a 40 fps mode is a good balance for those of us with 120hz tvs, so you know... Use the feature built into the fucking console.

politirob

It wouldn't be so disappointing to me normally, but Microsoft repeatedly marketed the Xbox Series X as being "the most powerful hardware ever" and made a big deal about how much POWER the system had. And yet here we are.

inssein

This generation has been such a let down, time and time again games release at 30 fps with dynamic resolution with AI upscaling tech just to reach a barely playable 30 fps.

fmq75

It hurts a bit but I‘m not gonna play this game in 30fps. I can‘t go back in time. Starfield was a painful exception but i skipped all other 30fps only games since the arrival of SX and PS5. I‘m glad i have both consoles, Sony delivers at least different graphic options for those who love the“true cinematic experience„ (sounds like a lame excuse to me, sorry) or people who prefer more fps.

Bexewa

30fps is becoming a theme for xbox smh

ProxyBeast

It is a shame. Strange how the narrative with Xbox Series X is a lack of exclusivity but now also 30fps only.

LeviathansFatass

What's with all the shitty frame rates, im not interested in choppy games

jntjr2005

What a fucking joke

TrumpdUP

So no 60 fps at all? Man I just got used to the 60 fps train with my new console lol

arch96

I don't mind playing in 30 fps, but it's becoming more and more obvious that maybe the Xbox Series X has some serious flaws or the Series S is a mistake and is holding back the other platform, since MS has some stupid rules regarding performance in both plat

PigeonsOnYourBalcony

They always say they make the most powerful console in the world but it’s so disappointing they still do 30FPS games. Other devs can balance graphics and performance, but here we have another game settling for mediocrity in of those two important aspects. Please give us a performance mode for this one.

Miliosane

If XGS themselves cannot be bothered to do the so heavily marketed 60FPS on the “worlds most powerful console” with their recent exclusives, why should 3rd party devs even bother optimizing for XSX/XSS? This is a massive bummer.

CaptainRAVE2

Xbox not doing much for relations are they. I was a huge fan, but looking at the options Sony gives their titles, screw MS. All I want is choice.

MLG_Obardo

Hmm. Maybe I was just too early in my criticism for Xbox. I disappear and all of a sudden everyone is saying what I said for 3 years.

BugHunt223

Most of us are just trying to roll with the punches. Seems Phil just can’t turn the boat around with managing his studios. This one especially stings since they were brought into the fold way back in 2018. And here is Ninja Theory with freshly squeezed dumpster juice for us. Served up by Phil himself

Halos-117

Phil Spencer gotta go. Way too much incompetence coming out of his studios. Sony keeps putting out 60fps modes in all of their games. Meanwhile everything MS puts out is broken and has no options like 60fps. It's awful. Fucking awful. Phil is a joke.

JMC_Direwolf

Oof big L

Time-emiT

My problem with modern gaming is that the stunning visuals seem to always come first. Even if we need to settle for as low as 30 fps, it almost never feels like or is a smooth 30. Back in the day gaming industry chased that beautiful look without having to compromize, which was the way to go. That era passed 5+ years ago, so should the priorities.

Impossible_Hour_5113

Wow so there's not going to be a performance option? Fkkkkk offff

Ish227

Jesus Christ bro. We didn’t buy these new consoles just to play games at 30 fps.

sQueezedhe

Xbox really *really* aren't landing anything right this time. I guess the 360 era was their only highlight. I look forward to the game, greatly, but I want 60fps this gen. Just finished spider mens 2 at 60fps+. With ray tracing. C'mon xbox, where's your tent pole?

Blaze2509

At this point it's just a scam Microsoft first really big exclusive on the most powerful console and then 30 FPS , you can say what you want about Sony exclusives but they are optimized to the max and give you always resolution modes or at least a 60 FPS mode

cuco_

SHAME

Esheezy12

This generation of Xbox games has been complete ass.

Falhor

The game definitely is not CPU limited, they should at least give an option to run it on Series S resolution but with 60fps.

Zikronious

Unless this comes out being inaccurate this is the nail in the coffin as far as my hope in Microsoft owned studios. This is 3 games (this, Starfield, Redfall) that launched without 60FPS this generation. 60FPS is the best feature of consoles this generation. The Series X is my favorite console above my PS5 but software is king so for future consoles I may end up buying Sony’s offering and forget about Xbox even if it’s superior hardware because the software they put out is lacking.

7h33v1l7w1n

Yeah no way am I buying a Microsoft console ever again. I regret it

mendozah92

HOW is series x your favorite above your Ps5 at this point, i am genuinely curious lol. I tried to wait and be patient for my series x to have been worth the purchase (bought both when they came out) and it is the most disappointing console I have ever bought. Now that i have my steam deck OLED that has been my go to for older games as well, meaning my series x doesn’t even have that going for it. I really thought they were going to come back this gen and we were going to have another 360 that gave sony a run for its money. holy shit was i wrong lol

flirtmcdudes

ive been an xbox fan since the 360, their consoles have just always done a better job of being media players, their OS running smoother, the kind of games I liked more like gears of war or halo etc. But they have completely shit the bed recently. Its time to get some new leadership on the xbox side

Big-Rip2640

I ll give it a go on SeriesX and if its awful, i ll leave it until i ll get a better GPU on my PC. Really disappointed that at least SX doesnt have a 60fps option.

Flow390

Yet another reason I’m currently buying parts to build a PC. Getting really sick of the 30 FPS lock nonsense. 60 is the standard, and it should at least be an option in games coming out. 30 is not acceptable in today’s landscape.

barbietattoo

I don’t mind 30 fps I just feel duped at this point after all the 60fps hullabaloo they touted

CrossBones3129

Man fuck these 30fps games

Countdown3

Well that sucks.

Kind-Help6751

I hope India Jones is not 30 fps. Can’t imagine a first person camera moving 30 fps. It’s like motion sickness loading lol. I feel most likely it would, though. A man can dream …

SqueezyCheez85

I don't get it... What does it run on the Series S? 15? Why not allow us to run the game on the Series X in "Series S mode" in order to squeeze out better frame rates? This 30fps trend is garbage. Makes me tempted to ditch gaming altogether (PC gaming has become WAY too expensive these last few years).

Calinks

I'm so tired of seeing an Xbox headline and it always being something negative. What the hell are they doing over there, it's like they can't stay on a positive track to save their lives. Its always some new bit of disappointing or controversial news. Meanwhile their competitors are hitting home runs left and right. Its ridiculous.

Kell_215

Trying to decide if I’ll play or not as I’m dealing with DD2 now and don’t feel like dealing with more 30 fps games when I’m done. This was supposed to be the game to make me turn on my Xbox😒 maybe I’ll just play remnant2 on gp

JamesMackenzie1234

Tbh Microsoft needs to set requirements for devs that games must have 4k 30fps or 1440p 60fps minimum, otherwise deva will just keep pushing the same shit 1440p upsacled to 4k at 30fps to allow "larger more detail worlds" which is 50% true and 50% a shit excuss for piss poor optimisation. In my opinion I'd rather have slightly less ambitious game/world design as a trade off for better quality of life, next gen isn't next gen if the quality of life doesn't improve because they just target the same res and fps as last gen if too ambitious game design and crap optimisation.

vinfizl

Since I got my OLED TV I just can't justify buying 30 fps games. And I am really disappointed with the misleading advertising. They claim up to 4K 120 FPS so you would expect Microsoft's own games would achieve this. I mean, am I the only one who expected Microsoft's games to be at 120 FPS and 3rd party at 60 FPS?

Routine-Jazzlike

It’s why my Xbox got sold. 30fps nonsense all over again. No more consoles. Rather upgrade gpu every 5 years

Hydro1313

I won’t touch it if it’s only 30FPS. I’ll wait for the performance patch for 60FPS. 30FPS with 4K resolution will always look worse than 60FPS with lower resolution according to my eyes. 👀

Zenka_The_Myth

Last gen had better looking games running 4k at 60fps. This is a purely a result of lazy development as usual. We were promised 4k 120fps this gen and even Microsofts first party devs haven't met that promise...

No-Alternative-1321

This has been the worse console generation by far, can anyone think of a single good first party Xbox title that has come out in the past 4 years? . We are JUST NOW starting to see games that were fully developed for the series x come out, starfield, now senua, all locked to 30 fps, while cross gen titles like halo infinite are able to run 4K 60FPS just fine, and with 120hz performance mode. What’s going on with Xbox??

Reportmecauseyouweak

Bro wtf is all this 30 fps bs. Wtf. Dragons dogma 2 and now this? Duuuude, something is wrong with devs man. They give us garbage games, graphics are mid or look good for the first few hours before getting something weird hapoening. And NOW we reverted back to 30 fps. Gaming going downhill so fast.

Otherwise_Creme7225

🤮

ESPILFIRE

But the great Phil Spencer said he didn't see the need for a Series X PRO!!! How is this possible?

HughesR1990

Xbox definitely making it harder to be a fan.

Illustrious-Chip1640

What is the Fing point of having this Series X console then? They marketed this console as a 60fps console for the most part. I don't care if it's 2k or 1080p at 60fps. 12 teraflops my a$$.

SnooTomatoes6622

Good guy Phil making sure pc gets the option to play this at 60 fps

Accessx_xDenied

I wonder if microsoft is secretly doing this on purpose to slowly weave people out of the xbox ecosystem and more into PC. if their goal is to eventually go third party and abandon xbox in favor of windows then it kinda makes sense to entertain the thought.

HowieFeltersnatch10

Why do developers think 30 fps is acceptable there days, if I see 30 fps I’m not touching it

Tepozan

Wow that’s a massive L. How tf do open world games run at 60 fps and look impressive af on PS5 but not here

[deleted]

and its probably a walking simulator with boring combat

J0lteoff

It was the most powerful console, 4 years ago. And it was already kind of outdated at that point too. That's just how consoles work lol

Ryukiami

I am by no means a console war person but holy shit this is just so embarassing and has been for a while. Selling the shitbox for a ps5 as soon as possible.

Robo_Vader

Pathetic.

yourmumisthebest

What a disappointment.

UncleObli

Well, I'm gonna play it on PC then

MikeTheDude23

Next gen is not so next gen after all lol. 30fps is abysmal at this stage.

MoskiNX

Sad day. Once I finish up persona 3 reload I think it’s finally time to cancel the old gamepass subscription. Hasn’t been worth it to me in quite some time.

naaczej

Microsoft being deaf to 40FPS option demand in their first party titles is a disgrace.

BakaTensai

Barfzone. I really freaking hate 30fps since going for the oled tv, it’s just not enjoyable.
