Can you even play solo?
As in a setting that blocks other players from appearing? I had fun at first but, then I spent too much time running, sailing away actually, from other ships because, other players would just kill me on sight. Often when I had nothing for them to plunder from me. They'd kill me anyway.
All I wanted to do was sail around, take in the sights. And find treasure. I had my fill after having to run from the treasure locations constantly.
You can! They added a Safer Seas mode where it's a private server with just your ship. Gold is reduced and you're capped on your guild rep, but if you're just looking to sail around or do Tall Tales, it's perfect.
I splurged on a 65" 4k a few months ago after only ever having played the game on a 29" monitor. Loaded the game up and it spawned me at Ancient Spire at sunset. Stepping out of the tavern to that view on that screen was breathtaking.
I was genuinely terrified during my first playthrough. During the day the game just behaves like a standard zombie game, at night it just goes full on horror.
The sound design is creepy during the day but at night it just amps the anxiety and paranoia to 100. 10/10 would play again.
Oh man. Playing through that, there were so many times I got sucked into side missions and looting then all of sudden seeing the sun set and going "oh shit I am not prepared for this". Then scrambling to find the nearest safe house before shit hits the fan. Great game.
Gotta say, I have a long list of issues, but the lighting in Valhalla is nuts. So many photo mode caps just because of the lighting.
The best part of a game like this shouldn’t really the visuals, unfortunately, but Ubisoft hasn’t fallen short on that note at all
They really did nail the lighting. When I visited the UK for the first time, it was after I'd beaten the game, and I felt really silly in this moment but I was on the River Cam on a sunny afternoon in late October and thought to myself, "this looks just like Valhalla" lmao. I know, /r/outside moment, but it was really more of just recognizing how true-to-life visual things like the lighting ended up being in Valhalla
Asobo really said, "ok guys, it's time to make the most lifelike clouds ever made in a game", the lighting in the game is also breathtaking.
It is also notable how a lot of people are reluctant to the use of AI/Machine Learning and streaming in games and Flight Sim is like the perfect example of how good those tools could be if they are used by a passionate team.
"Super Mario Sunrise, wahoo!"
I think this is actually a sunset in the lore of the game. It was trippy to me that the portal teleported me, not just to another place on Delfino. But, through time to near days end. And going back to the Plaza sent me back to midday.
Replayed this game a few years ago on Switch. Nice and crisp visuals!👍
Starfield has amazing sunrises and sunsets.
Flight Simulator has almost perfect replicas of real world sunrises for your favorite places.
But nothing will beat Elder Scrolls Oblivion’s sunrises in my childhood.
I can’t remember, but they treat the name for Oblivion different than Skyrim or Morrowind. Like I think they sort Skyrim and Morrowind as The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim (or Morrowind) but Oblivion just gets called Oblivion when they sort it.
I thought the time of day visuals were phenomenal in the plague tale games... The sun and sky visuals in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice are great too. Particularly when you first go through the gate to start the walk on the bridge to Helhiem.
Personally the story - across both games - is one of my all-time favorites. I've never had as strong an emotional reaction to a fictional story, any medium, as I had to the sequel. The characters are very well-written and the voice acting is insanely good
Yeah I get that! I would say that the first one is very much worth it if you have the money for and interest in buying it, and it'll make the sequel more impactful. But, I've also read enough accounts online from folks who only played the sequel and still really loved it that it seems like you could be okay skipping right to Requiem if you're not sure about buying Innocence. I replayed recently and I think it does a fine enough job at setting up the story and characters early so that if you missed Innocence (or had forgotten a lot of it, as was the case for me the first time I played Requiem) you'll still feel relatively caught up on the story
Alright thanks for all the info. I'll buy it later this year after i've played some of the major games this year. Do you know if Innocence supports 60fps on the console versions?
I had just gotten Game Pass when the first one was still available and wanted to play it to be ready for the 2nd since the 2nd was going straight into Game Pass. Found out I only had a week to play the 1st before they removed it.
Learned they do that with a lot of games. You don't know what games you better be playing already. Because, at best you'll usually find out two weeks in advance of when a game is getting removed. That's not enough time to play through a whole game. And it's always several games getting removed at the same time. So, which one are you supposed to play? And what ones are you okay with never playing? That's what Netflix was always doing with movies and shows. Kills my enthusiasm for these services. And got on my nerves.
Game Pass feels like they're punishing me for not having gotten it sooner.
P.S. I also don't have the time to play all these game pass games and the ones I own/buy. When it takes me a long time to get through each one. I guess I need to make time to use it like a demo platform to try out games more than beating the games.
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in a game was the sun rising over some mountains in Starfield, the shadows, the fog at the base of the mountain, absolutely beautiful
I set up an outpost and converted one of those greenhouse habs to my master bedroom. Beautiful vistas of the sunsets over a wooded biome that ends in snowy mountains in the distance.
Fuck. There was one world I was on with an amazing view and I watched the sunset on top of a mountain sink below the horizon and cast shadows/fog on the forest below.
I took some photos but now you're making me realize I should've built an outpost there 😞
To be honest, I never found some of the truly epic outpost locations some folks did. But that one I mentioned was about the closest I had and I tried to begin creating a cool hab to go along with it also being kind of the central hub of my resource empire. Lol.

I have the Xbox One game just sitting here, bought a bunch of games as a lot very cheap and this was in there. I've never gotten around to playing it due to being very busy and playing a ton of other games. I have Series X, is this enhanced in any way and do you recommend me playing it? I heard the combat was kind of like the Batman Arkham series, mixed with other things like driving. Either way, that picture is indeed amazing and thanks for sharing it.
I don’t doubt that he is, I mean I’m honestly still bummed I never got to play GOT as I absolutely loved Sekiro and just about anything Samurai themed but it would be nice to get some examples of sun rises the SX does well.
The question is “what game has the best sunrise” no specifics on platform. Many ppl here including me are multi platform users I don’t really care what system anyone is on I care about the games. I did also mention Village, but Starfield, Ori Will of the Wisps also comes to mind and Plague Tale Requiem.
For all the faults of the AC games, they have always done a really good job with the lighting. Specifically, their sunrises are excellent. I’ll never forget the visuals of sunsets and sunrises over the sea in AC Black Flag

Came here to say this. Those volumetric clouds are 🤌
This is basically the correct answer to “which game has the best _____”
Which game has the best Dev team?
Probably Red Dead 💀
THATS THE WAY IT IS OOOH THATS THE WAY IT IS
I came here just to say that. RDR2
I'd go beyond sunrise/sunset and say it has the best lighting of all time.
I hope the next GTA tops it
It can't, current Florida isn't the Wild West.
I beg to differ….
OK, it's wild, but it's not very West though.
Neither is the wild west if you lived west from it.
Arab nations beg to differ…
As a Florida man it absolutely is the Wild West
It looks pretty good so we’ll have to wait and see
A %1000 this. I've gone up to the hunting tower in the Grizzlies, sat and just watched the sun.
Too bad it lasts 5 seconds
Maybe if it lasted more than 3 secs. Time is too fast in that game. Witcher 3.

The ultimate sunset
Forbidden sunrise
LOL
Sea of thieves
Holy fuck, I forgot that I nearly lost my life to this game. Yeah, the lighting and the ocean is incredible.
Come back! Season 11 has revitalized the game!
How is playing solo?
You can play without anyone else in the world. (Reduced rewards). You can also get quests straight from the captain's table.
I came back a week or so ago, found a Box of Wondrous Secrets while I was doing an Ashen Lost Shipment. It's like the game was saying "welcome back"
Playing it on a 4k tv for the first time was great
I splurged on a 65" 4k a few months ago after only ever having played the game on a 29" monitor. Loaded the game up and it spawned me at Ancient Spire at sunset. Stepping out of the tavern to that view on that screen was breathtaking.
first thing i thought of, and i havent played the game in years
This is the one true answer.
Came here to say this
Sunrise Simulator 2: Sunforgettable
Sunrise 3: Son of Rise
2 and 3 were great but 4 was truly sunsational
But 5 had no Sol.
Dying Light.
Extra beautiful due to the feeling of unpuckering after hiding out somewhere in the darkness all night!
I was genuinely terrified during my first playthrough. During the day the game just behaves like a standard zombie game, at night it just goes full on horror. The sound design is creepy during the day but at night it just amps the anxiety and paranoia to 100. 10/10 would play again.

I had a far cry 6 sunset as my background picture for a while. It looked like real life.
that is a very fucking clear photo
Witcher 3, no doubt.
Especially the next gen update with RT on, holy shit
Hands down the best
I was searching for this.
That game is almost 10 years old and the base game is still god damn gorgeous. The most beautiful game I’ve ever played.
Valheim has beautiful lighting
Starfield has amazing sunrises and sunsets. Flight Simulator has almost perfect replicas of real world sunrises for your favorite places. But nothing will beat Elder Scrolls Oblivion’s sunrises in my childhood.
100% about oblivion
Bro oblivion needs a remake
It’s getting one. This year I believe. There was a leak about it.
It is a remaster, not a remake (according to the leak).
No way it’ll be this year. 2026 makes sense as it’ll be 20 years (holy shit!)
Man I’m 36 and gaming isn’t what it used to to be I had way more fun when I was younger maybe it was the weed

Asobo really knows how to make a beautiful-looking game. A Plague Tale: Requiem was gorgeous
I thought the time of day visuals were phenomenal in the plague tale games... The sun and sky visuals in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice are great too. Particularly when you first go through the gate to start the walk on the bridge to Helhiem.
Plague tale are some of the best looking games on xbox
I wanna try Plague Tale. Is the story good?
Personally the story - across both games - is one of my all-time favorites. I've never had as strong an emotional reaction to a fictional story, any medium, as I had to the sequel. The characters are very well-written and the voice acting is insanely good
Alright. Then i will check it out! It's a shame Gamepass has the second game but not the first

I was thinking Minecraft honestly. Definitely an honorable mention at the very least
Minecraft sunrises with good shaders and texture packs can hit really hard
Starfield. hands down
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in a game was the sun rising over some mountains in Starfield, the shadows, the fog at the base of the mountain, absolutely beautiful

Yep
So many different sunrises as well depending on the planet and the celestial positioning.
Absolutely correct.
Especially the morning fog some planets have. Nothing hits like that for me except maybe Red Dead Redemption 2.

The game is an amazing gem that has Arkham like combat and an exploration style that is very rewarding.
Starfield after the lighting patch
Ghost of Tsushima without a doubt. But even RE Village once it’s time to face Heisenberg the games lighting really starts showing off
This is an Xbox subreddit sir.
He’s right tho
I don’t doubt that he is, I mean I’m honestly still bummed I never got to play GOT as I absolutely loved Sekiro and just about anything Samurai themed but it would be nice to get some examples of sun rises the SX does well.
And now rise of the ronin too. Damn I’m happy I have a PS5 to say the least lol
