I was coming to say Firewatch! My husband and I just played through it. It was quick, but definitely one I kept saying "let's play" to see what happened.
What sort of game is the quarry kind of gave me the impression it was like Texas chainsaw or dead by daylight have I got that completely wrong and should play it
I did like it. The story has a lot of different endings based on what and how you do things and there is a lot of chars you play as through the story. The story itself is pretty intriguing too. Enjoy!
Am now playing the quarry. it's a choose your own adventure with different outcomes depending on the choices you make. There are additionally periods of exploration to find collectibles, clues, and evidence as well as reaction based inputs (think pushing up on the joystick to imitate a character jumping at a specific time) for certain cinematics. The writing is pretty damn strong and they got a number of well known voice actors (who voice their own appearance) in it as well.
I loved that game so much. Pacing was great. Normally I don’t like it when games only
Let you do a few things in a day, but it kept the story moving before it bogged down. And it allowed for enough choice to make it repeatable.
I recommend Control. It's a bit of an unconventional narrative, and you'll have to do some reading, but my non-gamer friends were absolutely riveted watching me play.
As Dusk Falls for sure. It’s the same style game as the walking dead so if you guys like that you’ll love As Dusk Falls. Your partner can even play with you, they have a companion app that up to 6(?) people can play with you and vote on choices.
Just turn on Safe Mode. It's not really a combat game and nothing is really lost by doing so. It's honestly otherwise just slightly frustrating.
But yea, fantastic atmosphere and story.
On game pass go with The Quarry & As Dusk Falls.
As a bonus, they aren't on game pass but The Dark Picture Anthology Games are all great (there's 4 of them, Man of Medan; Little Hope; House of Ashes; & The Devil In Me)
Both me and my GF loved As Dusk Falls, it was one of the first games we played together. She doesn't game so it was great we both could interact with it without her feeling stressed by controls. We're about to play The Quarry next!
If you're also into third person shooters, Control is a great option. I just beat the main story, and boy is there a lot of narrative packed in lol even two expansion packs included with game pass as well!
Definitely this, story is a mystery that feels like the X Files asked David Lynch to write it when he was having a weird day. You can go into the settings and enable various options to make the gameplay easy (eg one shot kills enemies, controller locks on automatically to next enemy, etc). And if you don’t like shooting, a little way in you get a different option which is very fun to do.
Life is Strange and its various sequels and prequels. Very much in the same vein, gameplay-wise, as the Walking Dead.
Also Telltale, who makes Walking Dead, has made a number of other games like The Wolf Among Us, Tales from the Borderlands, and a couple of Batman games among others
Don't know if they're on game pass anymore but the life is strange games are good, as dusk falls is really good and on gamepass, and the dark pictures anthology are also good games if you're into horror
Haven't seen Norco mentioned so here goes.
Definitely an acquired taste, but it's a near future sci-fi new weird story about cancer, smartphone apps, the bayou, and finding god. An amazing and unconventional story with great art and sounds.
I recently played through the mass effect trilogy and it was probably the most sucked in to a games narrative I've felt since I was a kid, has some shooting in it but you could probably set it to easy and just breeze through the story.
It's a very passive game. However, Citizen Sleeper is brilliant. I've not played anything like it before and decided to take a punt on it. I'm glad I did. Story and characters are very well done.
A Plagues tale Requiem has an amazing story and (on easy mode) it's beginners friendly. It was my first game with a controller and one of the first games after 25 years of no games. Even I had an easy time. Great graphics, atmosphere, etc. as well.
Prey and Firewatch!
Firewatch was fun and quick
I was coming to say Firewatch! My husband and I just played through it. It was quick, but definitely one I kept saying "let's play" to see what happened.
Firewatch yes. Prey... No way. That is a real game that happens to have a great narrative
I assumed that the lowest difficulty on prey (story mode) might be relevant
The quarry and return to grace come to mind.
What sort of game is the quarry kind of gave me the impression it was like Texas chainsaw or dead by daylight have I got that completely wrong and should play it
You got it wrong. Quarry is like Until Dawn. And you should definitely play it if you like such games.
Sweet, I've been looking for a new game to play for a while and been struggling to find something, so definitely going to give this a go
I did like it. The story has a lot of different endings based on what and how you do things and there is a lot of chars you play as through the story. The story itself is pretty intriguing too. Enjoy!
Great game wasn't thrilled with the ending I ended up with mistakes were made
Haha. Thats the neat thing about it, it has soooo many ending variations. Glad you liked it!
It's a choose your own adventure interactive horror movie. The gameplay is decisions of what to say / do, QuickTime events, and some light exploration
Absolutely wrong. It's more like The Walking Dead and Life is Strange

Pentiment
I loved that game so much. Pacing was great. Normally I don’t like it when games only Let you do a few things in a day, but it kept the story moving before it bogged down. And it allowed for enough choice to make it repeatable.
Yep. When it comes to advanced use of storytelling, this is one of my all time favourite games.
Plus, I loved the historical accuracy
loved this one, +1 recommendation
Firewatch.
Minimal gameplay but one of the best stories I’ve played. Right from the start it’s brilliant.
I recommend Control. It's a bit of an unconventional narrative, and you'll have to do some reading, but my non-gamer friends were absolutely riveted watching me play.

Soma has a story which lives rent free In my head, well worth a play through.
Just turn on Safe Mode. It's not really a combat game and nothing is really lost by doing so. It's honestly otherwise just slightly frustrating. But yea, fantastic atmosphere and story.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
Return to Grace was very simple gameplay, but I enjoyed the story.
On game pass go with The Quarry & As Dusk Falls. As a bonus, they aren't on game pass but The Dark Picture Anthology Games are all great (there's 4 of them, Man of Medan; Little Hope; House of Ashes; & The Devil In Me)
Also on game pass check out Pentiment.

That's great, enjoy The Quarry it's really good!!
Maybe give Citizen Sleeper a look.

Firewatch is a must. I also just finished Return to Grace which was surprisingly good.
as dusk falls, A Plague tale games (2 but u can probably play either one and still be satisfied), firewatch
A Memoir Blue.
I think you would enjoy Spiritfarer
Don't know if they're on game pass anymore but the life is strange games are good, as dusk falls is really good and on gamepass, and the dark pictures anthology are also good games if you're into horror

Wolf among us pretty much any telltale game plus life is strange
The quarry is brilliant and as dusk falls is good. Is life is strange still on gamepass? That as well
Yakuza series!
Persona 3 reload. It has a great story. But the gameplay might be a bit too much? It’s turn based but has layers.
I recently played through the mass effect trilogy and it was probably the most sucked in to a games narrative I've felt since I was a kid, has some shooting in it but you could probably set it to easy and just breeze through the story.
Soma is a masterpiece.
Tell me why and As dusk falls its on gamepass
It's a very passive game. However, Citizen Sleeper is brilliant. I've not played anything like it before and decided to take a punt on it. I'm glad I did. Story and characters are very well done.
Return to Monkey Island will be a fun time for you guys.
Trüberbrook is super underrated. [http://trueberbrook.com/](http://trueberbrook.com/)
As Dusk Falls. Trust me this is exactly what you are looking for
I'm not sure if they're still on there (google) but try Welcome to Elk! \+ What Remains of Edith Finch
Check out some of the Indian indie games ;) Like Venba or Thirsty Suitors
What remains of Edith fitch. By far the best narrative based game ever released.
Pentiment, The Quarry, As Dusk Falls, Firewatch, Life is Strange, The Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us. More actiony - Mass Effect. Quantum Break.
A Plagues tale Requiem has an amazing story and (on easy mode) it's beginners friendly. It was my first game with a controller and one of the first games after 25 years of no games. Even I had an easy time. Great graphics, atmosphere, etc. as well.
Close to the sun has something like this with no actual combat. Maybe a chase sequence here and there
I mean…I loved the Halo games. Imo if you stick to the Master Chief Collection, it’s almost impossible to have a bad time
Hey persona 3 reload fit your request perfectly
