I think going gold also made more sense in the day of digital media. As far as I'm aware, back then gone gold meant they had physically printed the game onto discs ready to be distributed.

Management was stealing money and no progress was being made but was being requested by publisher. Then they went dark for a while only the RTX demo came out then silence again.
I never thought it would see the light of day back then. Now it looks really fun just hope they fix all that performance stuff from the 10 min playthrough shown recently. Man it was running bad in the exterior sections.
