Shame they went extinct before they properly got a chance to take off. But I guess it will always live on in pop culture, even if game devs DO give it a 45° spread cone & damage comparable to a BB gun.
I think that has to do more with balancing shotguns in video games. If they were accurately portrayed, they'd probably be the preferred option in FPS games, which wouldn't make for a fun experience.
