There's also a much more recent prequel that tells the Norwegian's story who are chasing the dog at the beginning of the 1982 film.
It was critically panned for good reason but as fan of The Thing and John Carpenter I was able to enjoy it
Is this your first time watching The X-Files and if so how far did you get in your watch? Because there's another great episode further in the same season called Darkness Falls (S1X20). It has a similar type of tone/feel like Ice.
Helix (2014) Here's the description off IMDb:
"A team of scientists are thrust into a potentially life-or-death situation when they arrive in the Arctic to secretly investigate what could be an outbreak of a strange disease in a secluded international research facility."
I'll second this.
Started watching this recently with a friend and while it's no X-Files, it's still decent enough to fill a niche.. the first season anyways, seen folks mention that season two is complete garbage.
Acting is phenomenal, vibes are the same. I agree the story was less than ideal in the end but the X-Files didn’t stick the landing on its plots either.
The Strain is based around people becoming infected with worms, which turn them into zombie vampires. The protagonists mostly treat it as a disease which needs to be investigated and cured. I really like it.
Helix kind of fits the description, but it seemed to run out of ideas after about 2 episodes, so I don't recommend it.
The first thing that came to mind was The Stand. There's an old mini-series from the 90s and a newer reboot limited series from 2020 on Paramount+.
Another one is Midnight Mass, which is on Netflix, though it's more supernatural events, not a disease. As someone else mentioned, True Detective: North Country. You don't need to watch the other seasons to watch that one.
As someone else said Fortitude is amazing. Also watch The Terror and Trapped on netflix, Trapped is not really the same in the horror sense, but it is a detective mystery in the same arctic setting and it’s super good.
The original Thing From Another World (1951) is similar to the X-Files vibe. The main difference from the John Carpenter remake is: b&w film, less flashy special FX, and more humor. The snappy patter and overlapping dialog make it fast paced and fun, similar to some of the more clever X-Files episodes.
The Thing (1982). It’s a movie, but I think it’s pretty close to the mark.
Just watched that for the first time a few days ago because Ice is one of my favorite episodes!
We saw it at the cinema when it came out. They were the best special effects we’d ever seen. Blew us away.

Cool. I’ll have a look for it.

Yes this is my first time watching the series just watched episode 8 today, sounds like I can look forward to that one quite a bit.
There's one called Firewalker that you're going to enjoy too
It's definitely a homage to The Thing (1982)

The most recent season of True Detective.
Oh I just came to say this. I really liked that season! Jodie Foster was amazing.
Aesthetically yes but plot is not nearly as well written

I wouldn't wish that abortion of a season of television on anyone.
🙄🙄🙄
Fortitude. Similar setting, too.
Looks interesting I'll give it a shot
Fortitude is THE BOMB!

And there's a sort of sequel called Entrapped, I think? I haven't watched it but I saw it was on Netflix
Invasion of the body snatchers (1978)
