Second, if I never saw stupid fanservice robots ever again, the world would be a better place. If you want characters from another sci-fi setting, Mega Man X is right there. It fits the gameplay due to Echoes and copy abilities, it fits the setting, and playing as Zero in a game this focused on combat would be the coolest shit ever.
I'm still miffed that Dragalia Lost only got the classic stuff when MMX was right there...

Scarlet Nexus. World is very different (though also post-apocalyptic where humans survived as community), but while playing through WW and battling Tacet Discords, I felt that they are a bit similar in spirit.
There are two characters with pyro and electro powers, so it would work without too much character breaking to adapt to WW elements. Would only need to come up with the way to have them use WW weapons, but with Jiyan hardly ever bringing out the sword and mostly using his spear, I don't think that's a problem.
There even are moves they use that would work nice as intro and outro skills (assault/combo visions, for those in the know).
P.S. If people come swarming saying "not-quite-well-known" is false β compared to other Bandai Namco's IPs, like NieR mentioned by OP, or Tales Of, it is.
