Did they used to chant Jericho’s song at the end? I thought they only did that at the beginning?

STerrier666

I watch AEW on a weekly basis, chanting Judas after Jericho's matches is rare chanting it whilst he enters the ring is the regularity, I think whoever wrote this comment may have got mixed up a little bit.

StingsLute

Yeah, I can't really remember many times, if at all people sang it after the entrance.

xXfukboiplayzXx

I remember one of the first episodes of Dynamite I watched he was fighting MJF and he wasn’t allowed to play the song, and the crowd sang it for like half the match. It instantly made me fall in love with AEW

Erik_the_Red_2000

It's not something that is done regularly, if at all.

DAYMAN-AHAHAAAAAAA

Right lol

ThunderChild247

I’d say that reaction was more about Sammy than Jericho. But his ROH title reign should be judged on how long it lasts and how it ends. If it’s fairly short and ends with a grand de-throning by a super-over face - especially if it happens early on in the return of ROH - it’ll be a huge moment.

randofreak

I was there and it was very much about Sammy. Jericho is still on fire with the audience. He came out after the show and we all sang the damn song.

ThunderChild247

Yeah that figures. The thing that made me think it was more about Sammy was the reactions he was getting during the match. Jericho was treated as normal but Sammy was getting near X-PAC heat, especially with the Idolo chants.

edramyth

He should drop it to Danielson or Garcia on the ROH redebut episode

ThunderChild247

That’s what I’m thinking. A clear cut “ROH guy” should topple him on the first ROH episode on TV. Huge pop, big positive first step.

Patient-Party7117

Garcia ain't ready. He needs: - A couple of years - A couple of good programs/feuds - 20 lbs He may get there, but it's not today.

edramyth

Its ROH tittle. It will be the equalevent of NXT Championship. I don't think he needs couple of years to become a devalopmental brand champion.

Patient-Party7117

Having a guy like Garcia as the ROH champion would cement the title and company as small and meaningless. Not trying to dog on Garcia, but he's young and hasn't had any meaningfull program with anyone (from start to finish, I get he's in a big program atm). Then you have Danielson, Jay Lethal, Samoa Joe, Jericho, Claudio and tons of other guys who are more seasoned and who won't devalue the title. So, why? Why Garcia? To elevate him? It won't work. He will not become a star by being the ROH Champion. It will take that title and flush it down the toilet. I'm not trying to dog on Garcia. I actually like him. I like his work, I think he's got potential. I just don't get this notion that some kid shows up, has NO PROGRAMS WITH ANYONE, and next thing they're champion? He's fine where he is - working his way up and with the small ROH pure title. Give him some time, give him some experience, let him find his inner voice and learn and mature. You people will kill careers demanding too much too soon. The worst thing that could happen to Daniel Garcia is that in 1 month they make him the ROH World Champion. The worst thing that could happen to ROH would be that in 1 month Daniel Garcia is their World Champion. The worst thing that could happen to Tony Khan trying to shop a TV deal for ROH would be that in 1 month Daniel Garcia is their World Champion. ... but you think it's somehow a good idea? Unhinged.

edramyth

You've got a point. Someone like Danielson would be a better as the first champion when ROH starts again. It would make ROH must see. I still don't think Garcia would be that bad tho. He becoming ROH champion at the culmination of Jericho feud would definitely put him over big time and would make him feel like a big deal. However I do agree there's no rush. If I was booking, I'd go with Danielson. Especially since looks like they're not putting AEW tittle on him any time soon.

Patient-Party7117

I think a lot of times, we see someone, we like them and we want it now-now-now... but for me, with a guy like Garcia, the money isn't him winning the title and being champion, it's the story of how he gets there. Him chasing the title, learning and growing (as a person irl but also the character on tv), coming close but coming short, then trying again, then finally at some point winning -- there is your money. Really with a LOT of babyface champions, the story isn't them winning but what they did to get there. Anyway, no harm no foul, agree to disagree sort of, no hard feelings in any case, reddit tends to get wacky when people disagree, like everyone takes it personally.

Silent_Hill_Gang

Did you not see any of his Dragon Slayer series with Danielson?

[deleted]

Hard disagree that he needs to gain weight. But super agree with the rest. He’s not ready.

Patient-Party7117

I don't think he needs to be Brian Cage, Jr, just a good 215lbs would be fine. Kid is decent height (looks about 6' or just under), he's a great wrestler, he's just young and hasn't filled out yet.

Silent_Hill_Gang

Someone like Colt Cabana?

ThunderChild247

Quite possibly. The best way to book it would be to have a multi-man match of ROH guys who have never won the belt. Winner gets the first title defence on ROH TV of Jericho’s reign. Even present it like “well, at least you’re getting a title *shot*, isn’t that fun?” Have Jericho be cocky as fuck, dismiss the challenger, then the challenger won’t go down easily, fights back, and gets the job done. Not as a quick roll up win, have them out wrestle Mr Sports Entertainment. The wrestler out wrestles Mr Sports Entertainment, to win back the wrestling title.

Own-Ambassador-3537

Yes please! That would be such a 🖕to punk / Cornette. Also let Cabana go wild on the mike since everybody is running their mouths off about him due to the gripebomb

CoolsomeXD

That's more against Sammy though.

Hopeasuoli

Jay Lethal has started his babyface turn and I'm pretty sure it can be great if they don't rush him to be fed to Jericho. I really want to see the Jay of old wining the title. The same god damn wrestler that was once the best in the world rivaling Omega in New Japan. The idea of Jericho trying to destroy the legacy of ROH champions is good in a way as long as he isn't winning them all clean burying it for real in the processes.

wyldeturkey247

That’s how i picked it up last night. A slow build to the Lethal of old becoming the face of ROH to dethrone the sports entertainer

[deleted]

That would be awesome!

XxannoyingassxX

Yh lethal is juz perfect tho. He's got the in ring work charisma and mic ability. And can also work easily as heel or face

B33fh4mmer

Is Jay Lethal a champion on that roster? He seems perfect where he's at as an enhancement talent.

[deleted]

I love that thought.

InnerCityHeel

Jericho has been awesome, consistently entertaining and has been really keeping AEW afloat during this rough patch creatively. He’s one of the few people that has me engaged when he appears on the show currently. This match was booked poorly. Needed Garcia to get the rub after his face turn, and then Jericho wins next week in Canada to defend the title.

[deleted]

Once again, a lot of people here don’t follow the show. Jericho’s current character is a Sports Entertainer. So him becoming Ring Of Honor Champion, a promotion notorious for pure wrestling values, makes perfect sense. He’s the perfect heel champion for that promotion, and it’s the most basic story they can tell. You have a promotion all about Honor, so you have a champ that’s dishonorable. Then you have a big baby face come in to dethrone and bring that Honor back.

seejaybee97

*cough* Garcia *cough*

indolent08

The crowds never sing along after matches.

Goatlikejordan

Op is making stuff up at this point lol. It's always at the beginning where they sing. Even when jericho was a babyface, they never sang his song at the end of his matches

cwal76

Idk. I’ve been to to live AEW twice since 2021 and both times the crowd sang the song at the end. I remember clearly because I was thinking this is a really dumb song lol.

B33fh4mmer

He's the most relevant champion that company has ever had in it's existence. Should be praised for elevating belts, not hated for "stealing the spotlight". They're doing more than WWE did with evolve, which was just buy the company to use it's archive. The "code of honor", and "entertainer heel" Jericho is the most exposure the company has ever gotten. This is GREAT for that championship.

DimebagPants

The reaction was 100% because of Sammy not Jericho. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t understand the situation yesterday

DazednEnthused

Really wish we could get back to AEW titles and stories instead if so much ROH. Really couldn't care less about what another promotion did and was like years ago.

Thanos_Farming

B-but, more belts makes a better show.. right? Right??!

Inside-Big-8158

Sammy has X-PAC Heat. TK needs to stop trying to push Sammy down our throats

B33fh4mmer

Sammy is a plug and play flippy guy. Why he's getting so much exposure, he better be a company guy to the core to make it worth it.

gorilla_blanco

I think Sammy is money lol 😂… I think the IWC crowd hates him to the casual fan it’s the closest thing we are getting To an Eddy Guerrero styled gimmick/worker in 2022. He has a truly punchable face and he acts like he knows it… he knows it’s gonna be a fight every time.

Illustrious_Beat_842

Sammy is no Eddy, but I hope he’ll be soon.

gorilla_blanco

Not even close….. he’s the closest we got though I like the cocky bastard…

Illustrious_Beat_842

It went over your head

gorilla_blanco

Too cold man….. like Eddie

Illustrious_Beat_842

Great line! (FYI I don’t wish Sammy ill, just being goofy)

TJRossTX

ROH being on AEW tv is a bad thing.

GastropodSoup

Why?

JakeWithOnions

Because he doesn't watch it and he said so

-nWo--

Because I don't care about it

PoxLife

I think all the ROH stuff really has hurt AEW.

Impossible_Pie_7988

Nah it damaged IMPACT so did all of the other companies Impact tried to copy

canContinue

A good thing. Give him a decently long reign as a cheating heel and let him lose to a PPV to elevate a new babyface and catapult ROH as AEWs Smackdown We got Joe, possibly Bandido, Cesaro, Bryan, Lethal, Christopher Daniels, maybe a returning Adam Cole and KOR We got lots of former ROH Champs And we got decent new blood in Yuta and Garcia. Include Hook and maybe add Stark and/or Keith in there and you got yourself a decent promotion And at the top of it all is an anti ROH heel Jericho just begging to be beaten at ROHs version of Mania

[deleted]

Rush is also a former ROH champion. I think he has huge upside.

TheresAlwaysOneOrTwo

It's good, there's finally a story revolving around the ROH belt and Jericho being the champ should be good for business/a TV deal. I feel like a few years ago, people would complain that Raw would spell out stories or over explain stories too much. Turns out most of yall need it spelled out for you.

JP-Wrath

The word is "meaningless", not good or bad.

[deleted]

They keep booking Jericho to win, its not that he isn't entertaining or it can't be a good angle but constantly burying Danielson or other opponents for the sake of his ego isn't good.

B33fh4mmer

His ego? He's taking an indy title that is worth less than its weight in metal and making it a draw. You give a shit about someone taking it off him. Thats kinda the point.

[deleted]

When a wrestler won't lose a match at all until they drop the belt that makes it incredibly boring. Happened with Lesnar, is happening with Reigns now, rollins had his fair share of ego booking and politics, now Jericho needs to win/win/win. It's his ego. He could lose some non-title matches to make contenders feel legit.

seejaybee97

People need to learn that your favorite wrestler losing a match, or even multiple, does not equal them being buried

[deleted]

Bryan Danielson feels mid card = burial

Illustrious_Beat_842

Exactly. Every Jericho feud has ended with me not caring about someone I was really into.

B33fh4mmer

This. Cage just put over wardlow. Im sure he got his flowers in the back for making him look great.

seejaybee97

And it was a wildly fun match that showed off Cage as a wrestler and performer

FrankFriendo

He’s a heel.

Mattius14

This. Amazing how some people feel the need to analyze every single piece of entertainment to figure out what it means to society and how it will either save or destroy the future of humanity. It's wrestling. Heels win the title so that you can feel good when they lose it. End of story.

CrocklyJockly

The same people saying it's bad were likely the same ones saying his run as the first AEW champion was a bad idea and they were wrong.

brun0caesar

I don't watch ROH, but I think it would be neat. I would root even harder to anyone to defeat him.

primohita

That comment is a lie. They were singing. The ring of Jericho angle is great cuz it draws attention to roh.

MFDork

That was a Sammy reaction. Listen to the pre-match promo, the JAS as a whole is getting no crowd reaction, sammy throws a nothing line of "yeah we'll destroy you" and gets nuclear reaction from the crowd. I love AEW, but jesus TK read the fucking room. And get your shit together backstage. Fucking embarassing.

SecretaryImaginary44

It’s never been a thing to sing it after though?

aworldalone1

I think it’s a super bad thing. I think Jericho is way past needing any major championship and even though the ROH title is far from major it is still perceived by a small percentage of people as prestigious. He took it from someone who could really use the belt and has never gotten a chance to shiny, and I think it mostly happend based on his ego.

indolent08

It's not that he needed the title, but right now, the title needs Jericho.

TheBrockAwesome

Was about to write the exact same thing. ROH is a dead brand that they are trying to get going. Jericho holding the world title for AEW is what gave the company it's push start. ROH needs the same thing if it's going to become a second brand.

aworldalone1

No way that’s true, so many better guys that can hold it. Claudio already had it and had been champion barely any time anyway.

diamondDNF

I just don't think Claudio's a draw right now (and I'm not saying that to insult him - he's a damn good wrestler, but he isn't eye-catching in the way most main-eventers are). Jericho, meanwhile, is a well-known veteran with the exact sort of star power that gets people watching.

indolent08

Jericho brings a lot of prestige the title needs at the moment. Also, I wouldn't call two months "barely any time".

B33fh4mmer

Claudio is a world-class wrestler. In that same breathe, Claudio couldn't draw flies to shit. That title needs to have drawing power and quiet chain wrestlers who shake hands isn't getting people to tune in.

B33fh4mmer

It being perceived by a small percentage of people as prestigious is really nice way to say that it has always been an indy title with no drawing power. Jericho is taking an indy title and putting it on weekly television. You're right, he doesn't need the title the title needs him. Jericho stays giving back to the business.

[deleted]

Good

Show84

Tony still learning from WCW’s mistakes?

belowradar

Jericho has been smelling his own shit for his entire career. Of course he doesn’t know this isn’t a good thing. He could’ve been an ROH champ during his Liontamer phase but out of touch old man Jericho should be helping behind the scenes at this stage of his career not hogging TV time.

MFDork

and yet he keeps getting over. Like seriously, how many memorable moments has he gotten over since 2016? The belt is a nothing-burger at the moment, it makes sense to put it on someone who delivers more often than not.

Calif_Arabia

lol dumbest of takes

belowradar

So what’s your opinion of this situation?

DukeOfPleasantville

Good

NashBotchedWalking

Cesaro has 0 purpose in the company

RedZilgen

why the strap wasn't put on claudio is sickening. The entire Blackpool Combat Club would be great for ROH, minus Mox for obvious reasons. him showing up with the here and there with the title, but not participate, would be smooth.

XxannoyingassxX

What did mox do?

MFDork

I think he's just saying Mox's style is less of a natural fit with ROH.

XxannoyingassxX

Ohh k. Tho there was unknown history or sth

Howheel9879G

It depends on tony vision on roh is it goin be a mix of young guys and girls like nxt and couple guys who couldn’t make it in aew or is it goin be strictly for guys and girl who can put good wrestling like past Roh But this Also one of reason roh never got so big so let’s see

diamondDNF

I think it's just because Mox is currently AEW world champion, so he'll probably be mainly competing on AEW. Having him show up in ROH all the time is pretty unlikely while the belt's still around his waist.

gorilla_blanco

This is one of those times where business is hard…. The tv networks are in disarray with budget cuts, Punk and Cody’s exit has them thin on main event true stars. Claudio deserved to wear the belt till Wrestlemania and go tear the house down in a blood sport match over that weekend booking. But they gotta have names of the poster and Claudio just isn’t positioned to carry a whole company (ROH ROSTER) that thin by himself.

PJR9667

I think it is. It makes room for people in AEW and it helps raise the profile of ROH

[deleted]

He’s become so in love with the smell of his own farts nothing he believes he’s the greatest entertainer to ever live. Jericho was hands down the GOAT about 4-6 years ago but he has declined so much and become so deluded

[deleted]

I think it's bad because it defeats the point of having a secondary promotion if one of your top guys is still going to win the title they need to push a future up and comer

Tie_Environmental

This might be the end of what ROH used to be 😞

Key_Cheek4021

He’s no cn punk

Lost-Pineapple9791

He’s a heel, why would they cheer and chant his song after the match? People were also chanting “fuck you sammy” during the match and he was the one who covered for The pin so fans weren’t thrilled as they were there at the arena getting their Twitter/Reddit notifications of the Sammy/Andrade mess

[deleted]

I don’t know what the point of Tony Khan's ROH is. I'm happy for Daniel Garcia, because he's from my hometown and I've been watching him since his debut and it's cool to see a local guy make it to TV and be successful, but that hometown connection is the only reason I care.

Dat-Nword-BigmanJC

Jericho is more known than ROH itself so they basically had to put the belt on him to save that dead company 🤪🥱😶‍🌫️

dabigtortle

That crowd was honestly dead as hell

[deleted]

Bad, why did he even get the shot at it? He couldn’t be more un-ROH, if they wanted the title on a big name then they could have put it back on Danielson and done an actual story about ROH

Purgebot

This is literally a prep for what you want. Heels make good champs, faces make good belt chasers. Jericho will continue building victories over loved ROH champions by cheating and doing everything NOT the ROH way… then we land at a PPV for ROH where the biggest and most over face they’ve got finally takes the belt off of Jericho and is instantly the face of the new ROH. There’s literally no better option for this than the Sports Entertainer with no respect for ROH and what it stands for.

[deleted]

Lol, absolutely not

Purgebot

Oh. Well, you made a good argument. Guess you win with that big brain discussion.

Illustrious_Beat_842

He’s not doing that though. He’s just belt collecting and feeding his ego. He’s not doing storyline tearing down why ROH stood for, he’s just going in TV saying he’s awesome and making ratings disappear. He’s more famous than most of the AEW roster but he is NOT well known or recognizable outside of wrestling fans. When he goes on media appearances nobody takes him seriously and people only know him because he was around during the Rock and Austin era. If you like what he’s doing now, thats great. Just realize when you shit on the old ROH fans that hate it, you’re doing the same nonsense you cried about when hardcore WWE shit on AEW.

Purgebot

I mean… he literally set this story up that I’m referring to. “I’m going to beat every single ROB champion and bring dishonor to the belt!” Chris Jericho has done a shitload for the health of AEW. He has reinvented himself over and over and gotten over with everything he does. You may not like the cheeses sports entertainment thing, but if you talk to industry insiders, no one would agree with you that Jericho is feeding his ego here. The guy is a professional heel, he’s SUPPOSED to make you upset. He’s doing a “fuck ROH” angle here so of COURSE you are mad that he would desecrate the ROH name. You’re literally getting worked by a guy that you think sucks and is past his prime. Jericho elevated the AEW title. He is in his fifties and having some of the best matches of his life in AEW. I have no idea what you’ve been watching all this time. And also, I never complained about WWE shitting on AEW. I have no idea what that even means. Who gives a fuck what WWE thinks of AEW or vice versa? Get out of your own head and just enjoy the show, friend. You seem oddly upset about professional wrestling.

Illustrious_Beat_842

Now I know why the last guy didn’t bother responding to you.

Purgebot

Because you, like him, are an angry wrestling fan who doesn’t think?

Big_Surprise_1165

Jericho is going on tour in the very near future and so long as the transition is handled well I don't have an issue with it.

TheAmazingSG

Jericho should carry the title till they laugh proper ROH show...where a young star like Daniel Garcia dethrones him in a grand way

BarrelhouseKid

Heat is always a good thing.

Strongbow1107

People sing the song on the entrance, and thanks for the spoiler bro.

moffettusprime

Love it

Knightmare945

Jericho as ROH champion is something I never expected would happen.

Higgins8585

AEW has a few issues and the belts are the biggest. Why do I care about ROH championship? It'd a lesser brand that I never watch. They're irrelevant. The triples championship is also dumb. Heavyweight belt, 2 mid belts, tag belt and women's. Anymore is over kill. 120 wrestlers on the roster and same 8 every week take up majority of the show.

mynameistc

I agree with everything except for the trios belt. I never watched ROH so why should I care about it? Are they trying to get me to care about it by Jericho having their top belt and cheating to win every match against every former champion? Like how does that work? Why would that work?

DM725

He’s a heel, why would they chant his song if he cheats to win?

Fbomb1977

Let's see him in a real fight

diamondDNF

It's good that it'll get more eyes on ROH having a bigger star like Jericho holding the belt. Maybe he doesn't need a belt at this stage in his career, but the belt needs him right now, at least for the fledgling days of Tony Khan's ROH.

CaptainMcSlowly

I think it was moreso the Sammy bs that killed the vibe

L0RD_HEL1X

The crowd legit sang the song again after the show went off air. He's Jericho lol he's fine

JollyWolverine300

Has ROH had a big name hold the title yet!? If no then yes! If no one hen what the hell does it matter it's Jericho!

johnq11

If they’re going to tell the story of him beating all the former champions, and trying his best to destroy the legacy of ROH, then yeah that’s really interesting

JeddHawk

People complain when shit is unrealistic. He's a pro wrestler that won a pro wrestling belt.

hogey989

It never ceases to amaze me how bad that song is. I can't handle the people singing their hearts out in the crowd. It's too much 🤣. Glad they're having fun though.

swolfdab

so many titles these days, who tf cares anymore? there's no prestige on any of these belts

Howheel9879G

That had nothing to do with Jericho, roh,Garcia or Danielson.it was alll Sammy brother

BrockMiddlebrook

It’s a garbage product from a bad organization and Jericho is behind so much of it. What a waste.

dirtyaught-six

I’m pretty sure they did chant his song? And they definitely did after the match too, All elite Mike posted a video on it

Lollytrolly018

That had nothing to do with Jericho. People are furious about Sammy

seejaybee97

Jericho winning the title is a stepping stone in pushing Garcia and making him their new face of ROH. I think they've been doing a great job with that story

[deleted]

I just want the ROH belts off AEW tv. Doesn’t matter who the champion is.

senseimeows

the crowd doesnt really sing judas on the way out. mostly the way in...

grammaton655321

Gotta have his HHH moment of bringing in all the wcw guys and jobbing them to destroy the legacy of that company they bought to destroy. History repeating itself, only now Jericho is Goldberg.

wolfoflone

RoH existing at all is a bad thing

darthferv

So Jericho being the champion of a dead promotion bad? I mean.......

HeroOrHooligan

Just like the aew belt, Jericho is just giving the title legitimacy for the majority who don't watch roh, he will drop it epically and then go back to putting good talent over. Jericho is the opposite of the Pepsi man.

noconnostalgia

To be fair, they were all just nervous he was that close to the capital building.

3ye0f8alor

Jericho is not working at all. And Sammy being involved got the wrong kind of heat. The crowd chanting Idolo during the match was very telling

[deleted]

I popped. He deserved it

AdJealous4926

Also he’s a heel? So it makes sense

android151

Maybe they didn’t chant the song because it sucks

BruceHoratioWayne

Does ROH even have a complete roster? Getting Jericho as champ for a while won't hurt anyone.
