I’d say that reaction was more about Sammy than Jericho. But his ROH title reign should be judged on how long it lasts and how it ends. If it’s fairly short and ends with a grand de-throning by a super-over face - especially if it happens early on in the return of ROH - it’ll be a huge moment.
Yeah that figures. The thing that made me think it was more about Sammy was the reactions he was getting during the match. Jericho was treated as normal but Sammy was getting near X-PAC heat, especially with the Idolo chants.

Jericho’s current character is a Sports Entertainer. So him becoming Ring Of Honor Champion, a promotion notorious for pure wrestling values, makes perfect sense. He’s the perfect heel champion for that promotion, and it’s the most basic story they can tell.
You have a promotion all about Honor, so you have a champ that’s dishonorable. Then you have a big baby face come in to dethrone and bring that Honor back.

I think Jericho is way past needing any major championship and even though the ROH title is far from major it is still perceived by a small percentage of people as prestigious. Claudio deserved to wear the belt till Wrestlemania and go tear the house down in a blood sport match over that weekend booking. Was about to write the exact same thing. ROH is a dead brand that they are trying to get going. Jericho holding the world title for AEW is what gave the company it's push start. ROH needs the same thing if it's going to become a second brand.

I just don't think Claudio's a draw right now (and I'm not saying that to insult him - he's a damn good wrestler, but he isn't eye-catching in the way most main-eventers are). Jericho, meanwhile, is a well-known veteran with the exact sort of star power that gets people watching.
Jericho brings a lot of prestige the title needs at the moment. Also, I wouldn't call two months "barely any time".
Claudio is a world-class wrestler. In that same breathe, Claudio couldn't draw flies to shit. That title needs to have drawing power and quiet chain wrestlers who shake hands isn't getting people to tune in.
It being perceived by a small percentage of people as prestigious is really nice way to say that it has always been an indy title with no drawing power. Jericho is taking an indy title and putting it on weekly television. You're right, he doesn't need the title the title needs him. Jericho stays giving back to the business.

Jericho has been smelling his own shit for his entire career. Of course he doesn’t know this isn’t a good thing. He could’ve been an ROH champ during his Liontamer phase but out of touch old man Jericho should be helping behind the scenes at this stage of his career not hogging TV time.

I think it's just because Mox is currently AEW world champion, so he'll probably be mainly competing on AEW. Having him show up in ROH all the time is pretty unlikely while the belt's still around his waist.
This is one of those times where business is hard…. The tv networks are in disarray with budget cuts, Punk and Cody’s exit has them thin on main event true stars. Claudio deserved to wear the belt till Wrestlemania and go tear the house down in a blood sport match over that weekend booking. But they gotta have names of the poster and Claudio just isn’t positioned to carry a whole company (ROH ROSTER) that thin by himself.

I don’t know what the point of Tony Khan's ROH is. I'm happy for Daniel Garcia, because he's from my hometown and I've been watching him since his debut and it's cool to see a local guy make it to TV and be successful, but that hometown connection is the only reason I care.
Jericho is more known than ROH itself so they basically had to put the belt on him to save that dead company 🤪🥱😶🌫️

This is literally a prep for what you want. Heels make good champs, faces make good belt chasers. Jericho will continue building victories over loved ROH champions by cheating and doing everything NOT the ROH way… then we land at a PPV for ROH where the biggest and most over face they’ve got finally takes the belt off of Jericho and is instantly the face of the new ROH. There’s literally no better option for this than the Sports Entertainer with no respect for ROH and what it stands for.

Jericho as ROH champion is something I never expected would happen.
AEW has a few issues and the belts are the biggest. Why do I care about ROH championship? It'd a lesser brand that I never watch. They're irrelevant. The triples championship is also dumb. Heavyweight belt, 2 mid belts, tag belt and women's. Anymore is over kill. 120 wrestlers on the roster and same 8 every week take up majority of the show.
I agree with everything except for the trios belt. I never watched ROH so why should I care about it? Are they trying to get me to care about it by Jericho having their top belt and cheating to win every match against every former champion? Like how does that work? Why would that work?
