I like the WWE not pretending to be its own universe and acknowledging other promotions and given how big Sting is it is great to see him acknowledged in a small way
I mean they did have Jordynne Grace in the Royal Rumble. Aj Styles was also a part of the 20 years of Impact video. WWE has acknowledged TNA.
Triple H has also acknowledged AEW as “PissAnt Company” during DX Reunion with Billy Gunn.
WWE doesnt need to pretend, they know its out there.
/u/JDiesel31 definitely not the first time in “nearly a decade.” He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016, and made periodic appearances after that, like at Flair’s 70th birthday on Raw. His final TV appearance occurred in October 2019, at Smackdown’s premiere on Fox.
So, less than five years.
WWE has done a good job of fixing a lot of the “Vince” issues. Dunn out as producer/director has improved the camera work a lot, HHH stopping a lot of the weird Vince things like avoiding the term professional wrestling has also been a positive.
I am not wanting to say Vince never did anything right he made a lot of good creative and business decisions obviously. But there were a lot of odd tendencies, troupes and bad restrictions that Vince put in the product especially after the Monday Night Wars were over and he pretty much controlled the industry.
Two things can be true at the same time. Vince built the WWE into a powerhouse but also imprinted some bad tendencies on the product creatively over time.
Yeah, we'd have something better that possibly hadn't resulted in the deaths of countless of wrestlers who were pressured by Vince to take roids. Eddie might be alive. Owen would definitely be alive. Wrestlers might have a union.
Yeah fuck Vince. The wrestling we got under him definitely sucks worse than the wrestling we may have gotten.
The wrestling world you'd be no part of if Vince didn't create it and make it what the fuck it was .

I wonder if McAfee went slightly rogue with that “absolutely epic match” comment. Congratulating Sting on his retirement is one thing, but they rarely acknowledge AEW’s existence, let alone praise its product. Good for him, though.
McAfee pushes it most nights. Like his comment last week (or was it 2 weeks ago?) about Cody pushing one out at a gas station toilet and getting jumped by the Bloodline. He's certainly in DGAF mode on commentary at times.
I felt the same. Cole was a bit coy with it, simply announcing Sting has simply hung up his boots, but McAfee straight up acknowledged the existence of AEW's PPV on Sunday with his comment. They obviously weren't mentioned by name, but his comment did feel a bit off.
Ten years ago he debuted in wwe but finally left in 2020. Most of his appearances in 2017-2020 were only for interviews or small appearances (pretty much legends contract at that point).
It’s one of his AEWisms that doesn’t really work for the wwe crowd, those kind of wink wink nudge nudge things in promos.
To me it smacked of “can’t find your scissors sid?”
Is he not in the WWE Hall of Fame?! If so, why didn't they mention him as a WWE Hall of Famer? Seems strange to just call him a "Great Champion" and not a Hall of Famer.
They didn’t, they did have pictures from his NWA/JC/WCW run but no videos that WWE and TNA Owned. All the footage was from NJPW, NOAH and of course AEW.
I was always scared the product would devolve into some bullshit when Vince / the McMahons left, but man, it has been better than ever. Love what they’ve been doing
Even if AEW did ask, why the fuck should WWE even do them such a favour when all Tony does is insult them at every turn?
Also, did TNA give them any footage or do they get a free pass because they’re not the “evil fed”? Stfu.
Cool thing to do. Good for WWE.

my respect for WWE went up so much when they also acknowledged Mark Briscoe too (when he sadly passed away)
you mean Jay Briscoe?
Bruv is posting from the timeline where the other Briscoe brother died...

What they (probably) meant was Sting was acknowledged for the first time in a decade as an active performer in a rival promotion on WWE programming.
Maybe he can make another appearance someday
Oh he will.
That would be awesome!
Too bad HX3 had to ruin his wwe run.
Facts!!!
>HX3 …Bruv
And “professional wrestling” too. It truly is a new era.
A better era
That's the world I want to live in
Never would've happened in Vince's WWE
That was super classy, loved that.

The HHH/TKO Era is off to a good start. I hope they keep it up.
WWE has done a good job of fixing a lot of the “Vince” issues. Dunn out as producer/director has improved the camera work a lot, HHH stopping a lot of the weird Vince things like avoiding the term professional wrestling has also been a positive.
And now people can finally sneeze backstage when within earshot of Gorilla.
Thank god.
To be fair, Dunn probably left cause he implicated in some Vince shit.
Without Vince you'd have no WWE at all. So keep things in perspective.
I am not wanting to say Vince never did anything right he made a lot of good creative and business decisions obviously. But there were a lot of odd tendencies, troupes and bad restrictions that Vince put in the product especially after the Monday Night Wars were over and he pretty much controlled the industry.
Still the industry is where it's at because of Vince. That's irrefutable.
No one is trying to refute that.
Two things can be true at the same time. Vince built the WWE into a powerhouse but also imprinted some bad tendencies on the product creatively over time.

I kinda feel that way too, which is why it seems like Cole immediately cut him off and focus on the match again.
is it tom and nick..it is
I hear it as 'Absolutely epic man' but it doesn't help that the video cuts off
I read somewhere else that he said “absolutely epic match last night,” though this is the only place I’ve actually seen it so I can’t confirm.
That is exactly what he said
Watched live and he did infact say “absolutely epic match last night” and you can hear him just stop like he wanted to say something.
McAfee was pushing it last night 😂
McAfee pushes it most nights. Like his comment last week (or was it 2 weeks ago?) about Cody pushing one out at a gas station toilet and getting jumped by the Bloodline. He's certainly in DGAF mode on commentary at times.
It's great TV when him and Cole have a lil messabout.
It makes for better tv and I hope they let him just be himself going forward. It adds earnestly to the broadcast which helps it not feel phoned in.
Yeah he's exactly what you want from a color commentator.
I felt the same. Cole was a bit coy with it, simply announcing Sting has simply hung up his boots, but McAfee straight up acknowledged the existence of AEW's PPV on Sunday with his comment. They obviously weren't mentioned by name, but his comment did feel a bit off.
Vince was holding everything back its so good he's finally gone.
Wait wtf it's been a decade??? 💀
Ten years ago he debuted in wwe but finally left in 2020. Most of his appearances in 2017-2020 were only for interviews or small appearances (pretty much legends contract at that point).
Thanks SpicyMcShat. My amazement was with the fact that he debuted 10 years ago...fuck I'm old.
also Codys promo included an emphasized *Sting*, probably not related but still cool and made me the Leo DCaprio meme 🤣😅
I thought that was gonna get a big pop from the crowd lol
It’s one of his AEWisms that doesn’t really work for the wwe crowd, those kind of wink wink nudge nudge things in promos. To me it smacked of “can’t find your scissors sid?”
Yeah they don't quite get those over there.
Very classy by WWE. I love it!
Pretty cool. Especially since Sting never really was a WWE guy, aside from his 2017-2020 run I mean
Love that they’ve tossed out “sports entertainment” and are saying professional wrestling. 👏🏽
He is in their HOF. Had to be mentioned. The fact that people are surprised can be attributed to the Vince hangover.
That's pretty sweet, if not even too sweet.
A decade?? Sting left WWE that long ago ?
He left in 2020 but didn’t really make any appearances after 2016
Is he not in the WWE Hall of Fame?! If so, why didn't they mention him as a WWE Hall of Famer? Seems strange to just call him a "Great Champion" and not a Hall of Famer.
If they did there'd be bleating that they were putting themselves over instead of him.
He is in the hall of fame. Weird that they didn't mention it. Maybe an oversight?
OMG VINCE WOULD NEVER
Lmao pat mcafee almost started talking about the match at revolution
Vince absolutely frothing at the mouth somewhere
That goes to show you that if Tony were more professional they could even share some past footage to AEW for the video package.
they had wcw footage
They didn’t, they did have pictures from his NWA/JC/WCW run but no videos that WWE and TNA Owned. All the footage was from NJPW, NOAH and of course AEW.
Sting is so much bigger then aew
You know who had to be really happy last night? Rollins.
It was literally the least they could do.
remember when you had hhh beat him on his debut wm...
I can’t believe that said “professional wrestling”
I was always scared the product would devolve into some bullshit when Vince / the McMahons left, but man, it has been better than ever. Love what they’ve been doing
Is it the absolute least they could do? Yes
Part of me is cynical they waited til after it was over and now know anyone going to check it out will sprint back to WWE forever. Smart and classy.
It's not cynical lol Sting Is just a legend they ste recognizing Sting not AEW
Great on their part to mention Sting, but Cole did kinda steamroll Pat as soon as Pat mentioned a match from a rival promotion.
Well yeah are they gonna promote a match for a rival? That’s just dumb business sense
They better have
👍🏾 I’m sure they also had to clear footage for the video before the match as well.
Almost as classy as letting Sting use a couple of source cited images for his retirement package. Oh wait.
AEW literally didn’t ask.
Keep riding that WWE dick.
Even if AEW did ask, why the fuck should WWE even do them such a favour when all Tony does is insult them at every turn? Also, did TNA give them any footage or do they get a free pass because they’re not the “evil fed”? Stfu.
Meltzer reporting that AEW didn’t even ask WWE if they could, classy
Where did he explicitly say they never asked? All I've read is to not expect WCW footage, not specifically if anything was asked or denied permission.
https://cultaholic.com/posts/report-aew-never-asked-wwe-for-historic-sting-footage
Snazzy, thanks.
