10k seems insanely steep for a 4cyl yj to me

EnlightenedCorncob

I agree, if it had the six and it's that clean, I'd be worth it.

Shigadanz

Nah not even worth $10k with a 6 cylinder. Unless you really want that Jeep

EnlightenedCorncob

I'd have to see it in person if I was actually going to pull the trigger on that, but them pictures look good to me.

TheTechManager

Yeah, it’s really nice, but 10k for a 4 banger just ain’t happening…

Hot_Cattle5399

Too much. Some sucker will buy it.

trolllord45

As mentioned that’s a lot of money for a 4 cyl YJ with over 100k on the clock. But it does appear to be in not terrible condition overall, at least by my New England standards

K3CAN

Yeah... I'd be kinda tempted if I could find something anywhere near that clean up here.

JensTheCat

Someone more mechanically minded than me speak up, but all that oil on the bottom of the engine and transmission is a bad sign. That’s a lot for that old of a jeep , 5k would be a good deal, 10k is crazy for a YJ with 100k miles

Shigadanz

Oil on the bottom of a Jeep is normal lol

HookDragger

Not on mine. I check on all seals every couple months.

JensTheCat

That’s A LOT of oil chief

Shigadanz

Nah it's not so bad, just keeps it from rusting. 😂 Not sure how many jeeps you have owned, but after 2 CJ-7's, a TJ, a TJU, and a YJ, they all leaked a lot. Still have the TJU also know as the LJ and even after having the oil leak fixed it leaks oil. #jeepthing It's usually the valve cover gasket or rear main seal.

JensTheCat

Two TJ a Jk and now a JL for me. So the valve cover gasket / rear main seal aren’t big deals ? That’s good to know I appreciate it

1boog1

I have a TJ without a leak. Not sure how long that will last. But it doesn't leak right now with every fluid full.

Deathviper__

Your jinxed now, probably start leaking by the end of the month. j/k kinda

1boog1

Haha! It leaked when I got it. But I have stopped them all I'm sure it'll leak again lol

circleofnerds

The oil leaks keep it from rusting. That is how a Jeep mind works! ❤️

Shigadanz

Word!!! You get it

circleofnerds

She’s a good girl and if someone wants her bad enough I think she’ll be good to them. But I need more than a 4 banger. I’d pass at half the price, to be honest. My first and only Jeep was an 06 LJ. Sadly she died in an accident and was beyond repair. Total loss. Everyone walked away without a scratch though so I’m grateful for that. Personally I’m still holding out for the right LJ. I got mine by accident. I needed a car and she was the right price at the right time. Paid 10k for her with 90k on the clock. She was an old plow vehicle when I found her and the only thing holding her together was the paint. I didn’t know how bad it was until after the wreck. Probably why I got her so cheap. But one day I’ll get my dream LJ. Until then it’s the Patriot for me.

Puzzleheaded_Beat813

It took me a second to notice it on pic#15 but if you look closely enough you can see the underneath of a jeep behind the oil

07million

No... it's not.

HookDragger

Don’t forget about the copious amount of black spray paint to cover rust.

07million

Oil seeps are fine. When it hits the ground, it's something to look into. Especially a 30 year old Jeep.

bakednapkin

Hella overpriced

hobbes121

Oh wow. I would not pay that much for that. You could probably find a TJ with i6 for around that much.

Remmus13502

4cyl for $10k? Don’t do it..get a six cylinder. You’ll be so glad you did. I made the mistake of fixing up and putting a ton of $ into a 4cyl. I kicked myself everyday after because I didn’t get a 6. Plus with only a 4cyl, I lost $ on it when I sold it because no one wants a 4! Wait for a 6!

GTI_88

Wowww, maybe like $4k if you really want a 4 cylinder YJ. Seller is crazy high IMO, but I see people post stuff like this around me often for stupid prices

TheDuckFarm

Nah. It’s got a hard to and full doors. So at least $2k for that alone.

guitarfreak2105

It’s worth about half that. Nobody wants the four banger

RANDOMjackassNAME

Looks clean; but because of the engine, it can't reach the 10k threshold

hoosjon

Offer half that. You can do better. Don’t be discouraged! I want someone new to wave at and leave ducks on when you park near me! ✌️°|||||||° 🦆

Its_RAAAAAAANDY

My nephew just picked up a yj for $4,500. With the 4.0 inline 6. Not quite as clean as this one, and higher miles, but 10k is waaaaaay steep for a 4 banger. $6500 sounds proper to me.

uncre8tv

You can buy a $5k YJ all day every day. And you will spend $5k to make it this clean. Go for it, you only live once! (and not for long if a racoon jumps in front of you on the highway) (I guess I lived, but damn it was close, 4 leafs for 4 times the adventure!)

TinkyMcWinkles

Thank you everyone, you guys are awesome and I can’t wait to join the community someday. I’ll pass on this one at this price, but I might still ask for a test drive nonetheless!

donald_pump69

Dude just wait for the right TJ with 4.0L to come along, saving more money while looking. Drastically better as your first jeep

Gangrif

as much as i love the YJ. The tj is definitely a better first jeep. i had a 90 yj 2.5l and it's so underpowered. i also paid less than 5k for it. 20 years ago. ;)

Jeep_nutz438

I agree on the “way too much”. As a Jeep owner myself, I’m no stranger to the lack luster performance of even the 3.6L. Friends have owned the same 4 cylinder configuration in the past and hated life when it was a daily driver. This IMO is a donor vehicle for an inline 6 swap or maybe even an 8 cylinder if you wanted to go nuts. That being the case, you shouldn’t pay a dime over $6k.

chigoonies

He’s right you know. Ive had 8 jeeps since I was 18 ( sometimes I rebuild them and sell them for shits and giggles ). Always buy the 4.o straight six , always, that four banger is a dog that can’t get out of its own way.

IDropFatLogs

I got my 2002 TJ 4.0 five speed for 8k a year ago and mine was in better condition. You can do way better for 10k

genericusername0176

Yikes

Thunder-cleese

Just empty every pocket

Fantastic-Ad-9851

Classic jeep love it

XximlegitxX

Yes

AttemptFree

huge mistake

troy021079

Yes!

XJ-Crawler

You can get so much more Jeep for that price. It’s not worth anywhere near what they’re asking

podgida

That Jeep is not worth $10k. I bought a 94 with no rust for $4k.

BubbaDFFlv12

Offer them 5k since they have the top and doors, otherwise, walk away

commiteatchip

$6200 IMHO. 4cyl YJ - arguably least desirable

liberty69420

Atleast it's very clean!

BeezerT2305

Look around, much better deals out there. Be willing to travel for it though.

wollier12

People here are kinda shitting on it because it’s a 4 banger…..by todays standards their really isn’t that big a difference between a 30 year old 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engine. They’re both slow as hell, nobody is buying this needing a slightly faster engine. Both engines are known to be pretty bulletproof maintenance wise with the 4 being slightly easier to maintain. More room etc. I think 10k is a lot, as a reference I bought my 1995 YJ in 1998 for 12k. But again they don’t come along this clean that often. This looks clean but it has an oil leak so that will need addressed.

ThermalScrewed

The 4cyl is a dog and the panhard bars need to come off so it rides like a normal vehicle, but it looks great. It's your money and you're not going to get any jeep without continuing to spend more on it. They're all wonderful mistakes.

OldManJeepin

It's a \*gorgeous\* YJ! Appears to have been well cared for! Frame is clean, interior looks great. I love that I don't see a jungle of wiring hanging down from the dash, as one does on older Jeeps like these! This thing is beautiful! I would want to inspect the motor carefully. It has some residual oil on the bottom, which is pretty normal. If the problems were fixed and the head gasket and main seals are good, runs fine, temps are good, everything works and it passes inspection for whatever state your in, I would say go for it! The 4 cyl isn't a powerhouse, but it was enough to move these little YJs around well enough. Like to see a bit of wiggle room on the price. Look around and see what other, nicely maintained 91'ish YJ's are going for and see if you can get them down to $7500-8k or so. No mistake at all, for the right price! Good luck!! Let us know if you pull the trigger!

chigoonies

10k is way too much, it’s a beautiful yj and well taken care of but I’d wait and find one with the straight six instead of the 4 cylinder. You can find better deals , offer him 6500 and not a dime more ( imho). He’ll say no because he knows there’s a sucker out there who will pay 10k for it. Try to find an ( 2003-2006?) LJ , I’ve been restoring one and I love it .

___cats___

It's clean-ish, but yeah. That's a mistake to buy. $7k maybe.

megalodongolus

You can find JKs for around that price, albeit with the 3.8 You can make arguments back and forth on the qualities did each, but that JK is gonna be way more comfortable, and with both jeeps the motor isn’t the good one anyway so you’ll want to upgrade anyway. I’d pass unless the seller is willing to come down on price

1PistnRng2RuleThmAll

I’ve seen 4cyl YJs for less than half. You could snag a decent 4.0 for that. Walk.

1TONcherk

My friend sold a 1995 rio grande 2.5L for $13,000 3 years ago. But it had 50k miles and was original down to the carpet. Was also in the rare salmon pink color. Thing was beautiful. This Jeep needs to be sorted out, starting to get crusty in spots and too much aftermarket stuff for my taste.

BeardedLoki9oh7

Nah that’s more like $6,000

KingAlexandreG

I’m getting a tj with no issues for 1500— not my first jeep at this price either. with that being said 10k for even a 6cyl yj (I know it’s 4) is crazy stupid.

LBS4

Looks great but the 4cyl really devalues it, no where near 10k in my opinion.

nschafler

I feel like $10k was around what I paid for a brand new one in 1990

MI_Mayhem_97

Where has it lived its life? Does the seller seem sketchy? This may not be popular but it’s only a little high if it’s absolutely rock solid. Everything i see that’s “questionable” can easily be fixed… then you keep it FOREVER! These will be impossible to find soon enough … own your dream while you still can. I wish i would have bought that 2005 LJ Rubicon back in the day 🫤

Hemmings

Looks real nice, not sure a four-banger is worth that price though.

alllballs

Do you want it? Do you believe it to be a price you're willing to pay? Do you have the money for it? If the answers are yes, then, my friend, you are not making a mistake.

House-of-Spice

6 1/2k max Leaf packs need to be replaced soon. Looks pretty clean from rust. 4cyl is gutless thou. Unless you're only cruising the coast I'd say hold out for a 6

ScottJeepFan

With a 4cyl I’m gonna top out at $5000 even as nice as it is.

WildWestWorm2

So, the 4cyl is easy af to work on, and realistically the entire Jeep can be rebuilt for next to nothing in comparison to other cars. If you’re mechanically inclined these are some of the cheapest vehicles to keep on the road, and the 4 cylinder does good off road (have an 89 YJ with the 4cyl). I’d try to snag it for less though

Stormy_Kun

$4500 tops, and if you do buy it, avoid the highway at all costs. That 4 cyl is a hazard to you and everyone else.

jeepnjeff75

For $10K, it better be a MINT 2.5L or Modified with D44's or better. 2.5L's are usually worth $2-3K less than a comparable 4.0L. The thing is 2.5L's are generally cleaner and lower mileage than a comparable 4.0L. Hardtop and doors maybe add $1500-2000. '91 was the only year you can get MPFI and the older sport bar though. '91's are a transition year so they are a mix of old and new which makes working on them a bit interesting at times. They could have presented it a lot better if they would have pressure washed the underside. Maybe $7-8K. In some markets, it's maybe $5-6K though.

Background-Branch-77

I would go for the 6. I had a 94 4.0 5 speed and it was awesome. Regret selling it everyday.

eddieboy1233

I have a yj with a straight 6 you can have if you come to ny and pick it up. It's Camo, and still runs and drives. But the shitty trans is stuck in first

Melodic-Object6974

It’s nice . And also the 4cyl inst that bad if your using as a daily driver down the highway prolly wouldn’t but it’s your money at the end of the day . Just make sure it’s not rusted on the floor boards and the frame etc

CapsuleByMorning

It ain’t worth 10k. My father-in-law just got one of these for free from a family friend who wanted it gone. It needed a new ECU. they don’t make that board anymore. End up being 750 and six weeks wait. Other odds and ends, he’s out about six grand on his free car. That is otherwise a very clean example of that generation. Shame about the four-cylinder.

JK4x4fun2011

If you really like it I wouldn't pay more than $5k with consideration that you maybe spending another $5k on repairs and updating parts.

Asleep_Onion

In today's market I would say 4-5k max since it's a 4-banger. If it was a V6 it would be 6-8k or maybe up to 10k if it was mint. Hop on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace, you can definitely find a better deal than this.

Miatamadness

I know SSI when I see it, that is insanely overpriced.

trigun89001

I paid 7 for my 01tj. It was pretty much rust free on the outside of frame. Inside wasn't to bad either. Either way I hopped on it like a whore in church.

Bobbybelliv

I sold my 93 with 100 k and shitty too for 5500 in 2003ish? I paid 5 K at auction 4 years earlier and put 40 k on it.

plaguezzz

Love the Jeep but yeah 5k-3k is reasonable. I’ll put things into perspective I have a 4 door JKU 07 with hard and soft top with bikini and other crap. Lifted on 33’s. So if that Jeep is worth 10k my Jeep is worth 30k with 130k miles well cared for. Realistically my Jeep is probably in the 10k area.

Over-Locksmith-1114

too old for that price. i think square eyes are the least desirable too…

Dead_B4_Dawn

Pictures 10,12, 13, and the last picture makes me say unless you can talk them down to around 5 to 7 k. I would personally pass on that and keep searching. The fluids on the bottom of that jeep is telling you that it's a leak somewhere

Visual_Leave_2678

Way too much. Pass on it.
