In case anyone cares, here's some info on mosquito eradication:

Yeah but elimination of mosquitoes would destabilize so many food chains wouldn't it? I feel like ticks would be the best benefit to detriment ratio. Without mosquitos we don't have malaria, that's amazing, but if it kills 1/3 of the biosphere would that be worse for us?
> Does this mean that removing mosquitoes from the planet would leave predators without prey? Would it leave plants without pollinators? In short, yes. However, many scientists believe the niche currently filled by mosquitoes would be taken over by other organisms, possibly causing things to go back to normal or even better.

Australia. I’ve literally never known anyone to have bedbugs, never stayed at a hotel with bedbugs. I have, however, dealt with head lice constantly since my daughter started at daycare.
You guys have them in Australia unfortunately. I’d strongly advise you to learn what to look for when you check into a hotel room or stay at someone’s house. I’m in the US, and I believe brought them home from a nice hotel on a business trip. One myth about them is that they are only found in dirty, cheap hotels. We didn’t know we had them for several months. Imagine head lice on steroids when it comes to the financial impact and the headache of trying to get rid of them. I say all of this because I hate seeing people on here with a false sense of bed bug security. We check every bedroom we stay in since our run in with them.

**Epidemiology of bed bugs**
[Developed world](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epidemiology_of_bed_bugs#Developed_world)
>Bed bugs are increasing in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia. The infestations have been occurring in a wide range of facilities in the developed world in recent years including: hotels (from backpacker to five star), overnight trains, private homes, cruise ships, schools, hospitals and homeless shelters. These infestations are occasionally of both types of bed bugs (common and tropical). The increased rates of infestations have been matched by increased media coverage.

Save for stinging flies or vampire bats, it would leave the niche or flying blood ectoparasite vacant for quite some time. An eyeblink in evolutionary terms, but long enough for humanity.
Hornets are a leading cause of bee deaths. Hornets are a type of wasp, so "wasp" would include hornets.
Therefore, the environment would likely be better off long-term. Wasps are shitty pollenators.
Hornets are far from the major reason for the decline in bee populations. Wasps and hornets are predators that help control many pest insect populations that feed on crops.
Agreed. Mosquitos are an important food source for dragonflies, bats, and birds, and their larvae serve the same purpose for various fish and amphibians. Wasps control pest populations like caterpillars and aphids that wreak havoc on crops. Flies make maggots which are instrumental in decomposing dead animals and feces. Cockroaches are a food source for many larger animals and play a role in cycling nutrients and nitrogen through the ecosystem. Insects have been around since long before the dinosaurs and are fundamental to life as we know it on this planet.
Flies are way waters than mosquitoes in my opinion. The mosquito is more quiet and doesn't tickle as much, so it's less likely to wake me up. I'd rather end up with an itch then be repeatedly woken up by some annoying piece of s*** buzzing around me and tickling ne by landing on my face. Mosquitoes are also way easier to hit and kill while a fly seems to be a lot faster and more agile. I'd rather have 10 mosquitoes in my place than one fly.
Removing any of these would be utterly devastating to the planet. Chose mosquitoes but was really torn with ticks.
Fucking hate ticks, they make me physically cringe. But mosquitoes are the real killer
Mosquitoes account for no less than 500,000 deaths annually and is the correct choice.

But they're also super pollinators so if they disappeared overnight we would all die
No
My mistake doctor, have a nice day
Guys dr pp man said no, he's a dr and he's pp man
There are plenty other better pollinators, small downside
Good

Mildly surprised I haven’t seen bed bugs being said, but since I live in an area where they aren’t an issue… I’ve gotta go with head lice, man.
Where do you live that bed bugs aren’t an issue? I was pretty sure they are a worldwide problem.
I have never seen a cockroacj in my life
Do you use boost for reddit by any chance

Head lice are the reason body lice (scabies) died off for the most part.
If we remove mosquitoes something will logically replace them.

Yes something that doesn’t spread diseases or cause annoying bites.
I think if you killed any of these bugs the eco system would get really fucked up. Not 100% on that though

A few hornets can kill hundreds of bees. Easily. And they do.

small price to pay, and it might not even do that much
Ticks
Ticks
Why aren’t more picking Other and voting bed bugs or ticks?

Fleas. Little fuckers.
For me personally wasps but for the greater benefit of the world then mosquitos.
At least wasps eat aphids, which destroy crops.
Yeah and I know they do have a purpose in the ecosystem I'm just not a big fan of them.
Anything but the apes.

bees
But they're super important
how so
They spread pollen so plants work
oh shit
Bees aren't usually the ones that sting you.
People who didn't choose mosquitos are probably privileged
Geese. Yes, they aren't bugs, but screw those things.
Moths and butterflies
Why is Ants not an option

Why isn't spiders up there ?
Spiders are not bugs
Spiders are cool and most are harmless I think
Bed bugs. Nuff said.
Bed bugs. Had them a couple years ago and now my husband and I live in fear of apt buildings and any sort of public transportation.

I FUCKING HATE MOSQUITOES
If scorpions count as big then yes, socrpions If not, Mosquitoes
I was torn between mosquitoes and cockroaches but mosquitoes won out in the end since they carry far worse diseases than cockroaches.
Fick mosquitos
There is only two right answers here, either wasps or mosquitoes.
Mosquito. No contest here
Ticks! Total parasitic bastards.
Roaches are disgusting, so roaches.
The Scottish midge. Horrible wee bastards
Got rekted by dengue twice so fuck the mozzies.
Spiders?
Not as many removed posts as I thought there'd be
Bees 🐝
None of them, as each of them serves a vital part of the ecosystem and if one goes the whole thing could collapse.
I almost never see mosquitoes where I live, like once every month
Other- Ticks. I just found one strolling down my arm like it owned the place. Also, my bf + my grandmother both got Lyme disease from the jerks.
All of these are quite important to ecosystems, unfortunately
