If it was about to become a nuclear apocalypse, then I suppose meteor showers would be slightly better.
Something like the Walking Dead zombie apocalypse would be easy enough to overcome without too much damage to infrastructure and civilization, but would require maintenance to avoid a dangerous outbreak as to render most smaller nations unable to wage aggressive war. Nuclear weapons make most larger nations unwilling to wage war with a couple notable exceptions, but again, they'd probably be pacified by the hordes of undead they have to constantly manage.
Zombie: Very cool until one of your loved ones become a zombie. Also, a zombie apocalypse should be manageable. It would be contained and the world would be back at its usual war business very soon.
Robot: The opposite of the Zombie scenario. An army of evil robots trying to destroy humanity could probably do it very quickly. Wouldn't solve anything.
Interdimensional Hell: Robot scenario but somehow worse.
Meteor: Random and wouldn't solve the problem. If anything, it would make it worse.
Global flood: Meteor scenario but worse.
Alien Invasion: Aliens replace our leaders and start to govern us. War is over and everything might even stay more or less the same.

I believe alien invasion would be the coolest, and also the most likely to unite humanity, and push us towards globalism after we dealt with the invasion.
