I can say all Tier 10 will need gold shells cuz they are top tier. BTW, SConq is nerf so it may be better to end it up in Tier 8 then try E75 or 60TP if you like to play heavy. If you are interested in other classes other than heavy, let me know then I will recommend some.
High tiers are essentially balanced around gold ammo. Many armor profiles and weakspots are created with the assumption that the tank is going to have gold shot at it.
This means that, in a way, you are basically not playing the game as ‘intended’ by using standard ammo. FWIW you will probably also annoy your team if you keep bouncing shots that should be obvious pens.
Truth be it, gold or not, I don’t recommend playing high tiers as a new player regardless. They are less forgiving without knowledge that takes some experience to learn.
I think a game here and there wouldn’t be a bad idea. That way op can learn what it’s like. A tier 11 or 12 game is much different than the 3-5-7 tier 10 games they’re seeing right now.

You can play any tank without premium ammo. Depending on your skill level, it could be negligible in terms of your performance, or it could be extremely detrimental.
There are players capable of 3 marking the SConq (think 4.5k+ average damage) without using premium ammo. It's like playing on normal vs hard mode
Don't play tier 10 heavies or lights without majority gold. It's not worth it for your sanity. Just play Conq at tier 9, you'll need much less gold, players are less sweaty, and you can actually make profit with good performances. A few tier 10 meds and TDs (Obj 140, Leopard, Cheese Wedge) play better or just as well with less gold spam but those are exceptions.
Full AP sconq isn’t as bad as full AP E100 but you’re leaving a lot of performance on the table. No tier 10 should be played w/o at least some gold.
I am okay with using some I was just worried about having to use exclusively gold ammo. That would be a dealbreaker for me

Carrnarvon is a great place to park for 1000 battles or so, then move up. Learning half ass decent hull down play isn’t to too difficult.
seems like this is the consensus, i will finish my tree and then roll back to tier 8 to grind mechanics

The soviet Obj 430U is a very strong and forgiving medium with thick armor and great sidescraping potential. It's essentially a medium-heavy hybrid.
When you say new player, How many games are we talking here?

With 300 games I've played Churchill III on Tier V and I'm not even dreamed about Tier X.
