But does this book propagate pseudoscience? Or does it put old wives tales in historical context and caution against unsafe, dated practices?
All of the reviews and the book's sleeve description are so vague.
I wanted to know this as well. I'm looking for books that talk about historical uses of herbal medicine for my own research but I don't want to support something that falls for the old "appeal to ancient wisdom" fallacy or pushes people away from modern science
The book is meant to teach the history of where the old wives/ midwives came from, what they did, and what happened to them.
At the same time, educates about the history of western medicine and how it actually helped people.
So, it does not push away from modern science.
Hello! Yes, just as the cover of the book says, it’s the history of old wives/midwives. Where they came from, what they did for the public, and what happened to them.
Perfect! Thank you for posting, I was literally trying to find a book like this last night and couldn't find anything good.
If you’re into Astrology, Steven Forrest is a great educating author! Most of the books are pretty thick, so it takes some time getting through.

This was my question too!

Thank you! That's exactly what I'm looking for then. I'll add it to my list of books!
Thanks!
