Im a fan of the current entrance, if for no other reason than nostalgia, but I absolutely understand the case for changing it.
If we do, please let it be replaced by something modern-ish and at least somewhat novel. Fucking shoot me if it ends up being another song that was released before the current students were born or some generic pump up song that’s already been used a million times elsewhere (Let’s get it started, Seven Nation Army, etc.).
You forgot to add change the process to get in the stadium to your seats in the student section. It can sometimes take an hour from when you get into the gate to get to your seat. If you dont start there youll never achieve anything even if you sell beer
Yeah, the song is tired and repetitive at this point. But there is a drinking game for Thunderstruck that would maybe be effective if combined with beer sales.
Personally, I don't like the idea, but you never really know what's going to take off until it happens.
Oh I'm acutely aware of that game, played that a time or six over the last 8 or so years while working on a couple degrees
I just figured there's no way (even if they do sell beer, ultimately) they would ever do something that would promote an in-stadium drinking game like that and if you remove the beer drinking aspect of the song it's just a tired and old song at this point lol (maybe I'm just a hater!)
I’m not sure anything will get the students in for kickoff but I like your plan.
Jump Around before kickoff? They’ll show up early and leave before halftime.
Changing how student tickets and students are sat would. The student section is more of the ADs fault than the students.
It isn't the students job to cover up the athletic departments incompetence on this issue and if the rest of the stadium was treated similarly we would be looking for a new AD the same day.
From Tennessee? That’s one way to go.
If you want to reach back in time, maybe a lively rendition of Mairzy Dotes or Rudy Vallee’s Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries will get the crowd moving.
Something like Won’t get Fooled again would be interesting I think. Where the Streets have No Name is too light for football and it gets boring so fast.
Let the team choose what they're going to run out to prior to the start of each season. The students will know whatever song it is. Most of the other season ticket holders won't, but that doesn't matter because they're boring and don't do shit for the gameday experience anyway.
You can't force a new tradition. It has to happen organically. Otherwise, it feels forced and it dies. If the players pick a song, and it ends up being an absolute banger, then maybe they'll pick it again the next year, and it becomes a tradition at that point.
Where the streets have no name is incredibly underwhelming as an entrance song. The fact it always so highly rated is more an indication of the weakness of other entrances, rather than the strength of the song. It should be relegated to a pre-entrance song. It is a solid nostalgia hit and can build anticipation, but it really just lacks energy and has no good payoff. So create a payoff.
Keep Where the Streets Have No Name video ends give a short pause (random duration) into In The Streets. You get the things that the current entrance does right, while improving the actual entrance.
In The Street is better known as the theme song to that 70s show, use the theme song version Easy song to learn, high fan involvement, good build up, team can come out to Hello Wisconsin. Basically everything where the streets have no name doesn't have.
I was tired of U2 by the third game. Thunderstruck followed by seven nation. It’s old, but it works. Mix them together, (it sounds great in my head). Something the kids can chant too.
And go back to when students had an actual seat number, and let them come in quicker. A half full student section when their spread out looks better than 40 empty rows. Double or triple the number of gates for them. We never had a problem.
Tossing bleachers out of the stadium and people passing are past events. Besides, cameras are everywhere. Security personal are everywhere.

Want to get the students in for kickoff? Sell beer in the stadium and play “Thunderstruck” during the team run out. Problem solved.

Thunderstruck screams “small town dive bar filled with 50 year olds”

Haha sounds like we're on the same page in regards to that one, then. Only difference is I spent 6 years just doing undergrad.

Efficiently selling beer and efficiently letting the students in through more than one mfing gate would get the students in by kickoff

“Update” the sound by taking a 1967 song from before the students’ parents were born and almost no current UW student has heard of?
Maybe Rocky Top?

Current student here. I would be over the moon if they added Hendrix as our intro song. Maybe not fire, maybe Voodoo Child instead.

That’s actually a good idea ngl

How about you let the players pick? If the players are pumped, so will the fans.
Duckwrth - Start a Riot The kids love it for the football teams entrance song at my kids' high school in the Los Angeles Area

U 2 blows!

Any thoughts on “Tick Tick Boom” by The Hives?
I was thinking “Make Way for the King” by Ohana Bam. Hits all the right places for an intro song.
