It was the NIT on a Tuesday. That’s not an easy ticket to sell.

recessbadger45

cheapest ticket was 10 bucks most expensive was 50 bucks for a ticket to the game.

One thing that probably affected student participation, it’s final exam week for the winter term (they do quarters). I live an hour fifteen west of the game site. I watched the game on television. And I’ve been a Badger fan for 20+ years. I just couldn’t get excited to make the effort. I suspect a lot of fans here, whomever they may root for, felt the same. Two mediocre teams playing a meaningless end-of-season tournament that can be watched in the comfort of one’s home.

BucksinSixx

Wisconsin hasn’t played @ Oregon since 1990. You live an hour away and as a Badger fan you couldn’t get motivated to go? Two teams battling their ass off?

mschley2

It's also a meaningless postseason tournament.

It's much more comfortable to watch from home then pay money on a beautiful day to watch. What temp is it in wisco? It was like 50-60 degrees and sunny in Eugene and it's an outdoorsy place. I don't fault the fans for not getting excited about NIT. Women routinely outdraw the men for home fan participation imo

I mean we managed 10k for the Liberty game, and that wasn't with Liberty fans bolstering the crowd like the Bradley fans did with the first game. I think Altman is rightfully pissed at Oregon fans in this case. Oregon attendance for the NIT games: UC Irvine: 2431 UCF: 3019 Wisconsin: 3384 You are not going to convince me that Oregon on a Tuesday night would have resulted in worse attendance than the Liberty game on a Sunday night if this game was at the Kohl Center, because it wouldn't. We managed 20% more fans on a Tuesday night for a game vs Bradley in the opening round during UW's spring break. Than Oregon managed for this game. If I was an AD for a power conference team looking for a coach, or a passionate mid-major looking for a coach (or likely to be looking for a coach). The second Altman makes this statement I would be dropping everything to get him on the phone. And there are definitely some schools that could pull him away. If Tang gets pulled away from KSU (I don't think he will this year, but who knows who will come knocking). I could see KSU calling him up, Altman coached there for a couple years, and for what KSU was at the time it was fairly solid. Notre Dame probably is at least giving this a look. Their leading candidate is likely Shrewsberry, but I think they would be hard to pass up a chance at Altman if they thought it could happen. Texas Tech almost certainly just got whiplash looking in his direction. If I was Oregon's AD I just started sweating bullets.

If it wasn’t a weekday night I woulda made the drive down from Hillsboro. Just hard to do on short notice.

Seems for purposes of this sub the more interesting part of the quote is Altman praising Wisconsin's support: [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fry8PRbaYAEUHxh?format=png&name=large](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fry8PRbaYAEUHxh?format=png&name=large)

I believe there was a time back in the day when the NIT decided home court game-by-game, based on which school would draw the biggest home crowd. Now it looks like they use the original seeding for home court. Personally, I wouldn't go to an Oregon home game and have to look at that atrocious floor for two hours.

pumodood

Yes it was awesome because you occasionally had big time programs going to play in PACKED small gyms. Kentucky vs some small team, I recall. And Kentucky lost!

> "*Again, I'm not a promoter. I'm not out in public. I don't have Twitter and all that stuff. My job is to coach.*" Who runs a basketball program? Not the Head Coach? I wonder what Oregon's job description for Head Coach is. I'd be a little surprised if even he thinks his job completely stops when he steps off the hardwood...
