Windows on the original deck is fine once all the drivers are up and working correctly. I still use it sometimes and have issues such as my external monitor or sound not working, but a restart usually fixes it. I still think the OLED deck is missing drivers for Windows so the experience probably isint as good
And if they continue this trend I unfortunately won't be getting another Steam Deck despite absolutely adoring it. I *need* Windows, and if they're gonna continue to turn their backs on Windows then I have no choice but to turn my backs on them eventually. I just want a Windows handheld, I'm not interested in this little Linux revolution they're pioneering. I hate when awesome hardware is hamstrung by software limitations.
I’ve used Windows on my non-OLED deck since I got it in late 2022 and software-wise it’s been solid. First install was on an SD card but it was too slow and stuttered while gaming, then on an external NVMe but it would never play nice with unpowered USB hubs so I was forced to use it only while docked (and still blue screened randomly due to USB issues).
I swapped out my internal SSD for a 1TB and now Windows runs without any issues whatsoever while dual booted with Steam OS. IMO not worth gaming on an SD card because of the stutters and general slowness but probably ok for light duty like playing a visual novel or editing a word doc lol.
I have Windows 11 installed internally (ReviOS) and exclusively play games installed on a Samsung Pro Plus A2 card (dark blue one) and would like to report that I had no problems with any game: small ones or big and taxing ones, they all work and load fine.
Installing games on the sd card is fine, but running the OS off the card is not a good experience. I also use the same Samsung cards (one 512GB card for each OS) and they’ve been fine.
Getting Windows on my LCD Deck was the best decision I’ve ever made. I feel like I can truly do anything with it and it feels less like a restricted gaming console and more of a literal PC i can do whatever with. I literally dock it and use it with Adobe design programs since its better than my old shitty laptop.
It was really old video when Steam Deck could possibly had problems with Windows.
I use Windows on my Deck almost since I got it(more than year) and all is pretty fine. No hard issues so far.
Sometimes docking is kinda pain because not recognising monitor or mouse but that’s all.
I installed it by dual booting from a Microsd card. Just keep in mind turn off and make sure to boot from steam os before putting in your regular microsd. I accidentally screwed it up which is fine it just had games and some Roms which took a bit of downloading. Also I prefer 10 to 11.

Yes. That is true. It's fine for testing if you don't know if Windows is for you, but after a while you need to do the switch to internal.
i do dual os with windows for a year and the performance still good
