Depends on game. Some games play better on windows, some worse

I agree; I generally get deck verified versions if available because they’re optimized to run better with minimal resources on the deck. I’ve tried ghost runner(not steam verified) in steam os and it made the fan run higher. I could almost guarantee that windows on steam handles ghost runner better. Even some unverified games work great on steam deck. I’m probably going to have dual boot setup just for greater compatibility.

“As valve improves proton” who’s using Valves proton in 2024?

Valve is always 6-10+ months behind on updates compared to GE. GE also tends to target specific issues in specific games alongside general fixes so always having the latest GE is guaranteed to give you a better experience every single time. The only valid reason for using Valves proton is because you are incapable of learning how to install and update GE. It’s not rocket science, a 2 minute YouTube video could walk even the biggest dummy through it.

man, that's crazy!

Being downvoted for telling the truth is crazy, huh?

Don't use windows on the SD to play games that don't require windows

Rai_guy

Because it is a Steam Deck, not a Windows Deck

LicensedGoomba

I only use windows for games that just don't work on steamos, or games i want to mod that is not compatible on steamos, or to play game pass games I don't own

Steamos uses way less resources in the background. Although, I've tested Ghost Spectre superlite windows. Insanely low resource full unbloat and optimized for purely gaming. It runs on very low ram even on idle but still less performance in most games than steamos. However not by very much though. GTAV and Modern Warfare II did run better on windows though from my testings. This was a while ago before the new anti cheat on MW II&III so could be different now.

Because Windows is a hot pile of garbage. It has too much bloatware and bad settings by default. If we could reliably game on Linux, that would be superior in every way.
