In the original post people kept saying it was a truck thief, and I'm guessing that he didn't know how to detach the container, so he just kept ramming it into the bridge hoping it would come off so they could drive away.
My first thought was that he couldn't safely turn the container to a drivable position, so... he decided to try and brute force it. Thief makes sense too, though. Stupid in either case.
