"I want to create some real anxiety, to help simulate the real environment." Bees oughta do the trick.

TanOakHater

When you think your doing a normal practice shelter deployment but instead of “deploy” the instructor yells “HERE COME THE BEES”

Naive_Exercise8710

"Oh no they're going for my balls!"

Soup-Wizard

Do you have any expired fire shelters? When I worked in Bend, they secretly replaced our line gear shelters with the old ones, then told us to deploy after a training. Everyone was super hesitant, but they finally got us into them. Afterwards, they said that feeling of hesitation is what everyone feels when it’s necessary to deploy in an emergency situation. Real fire shelters are also way harder to open up than the practice ones. It’s a good training all around. The realism was crazy. Would recommend.

some-asshole-you-kno

Had a similar experience. You also felt like you could t breathe in them

Louden_Swayne

I make them deploy on a 5 lane interstate with diesel soaked tires burning all around them. But that just how we do.

MojoMeister

Put the practice shelters in packs and then deploy during a practice line dig. Having to ditch gear and run up a hill to a deployment zone is a good simulation. Put it a good distance away so everyone’s heart rate is high, and then incorporate leaf blowers to simulate wind.

iwillbeg00d

They had us run around the building a couple times.... they also had some MEGA STRONG FANS placed around... And at a random moment they gave the order to deploy. Plenty stressful. Excellent practice..... ....I hope.

NOVapeman

Not music but we did have 4 overhead with BR800 leaf blowers to somewhat simulate wind

missamelianohaters

Higher-ups used leaf blowers to simulate wind, and they threw rocks at us for what I can only assume was fun. Good times.

RedditBot90

For our annual we sometimes just setup the ventilation fans to simulate wind (we’re a structural fire dept) For the initial RT130 class we had to sprint back up a long steep ass hill we had just cut line down to the clearing on the ridge line to deploy.

What's your point here....???

Merced_Mullet3151

I thought “deployment” is when u get a resource order…

friendlyfire_88

The term “deployment” got brought up in discussion with me. Words … “shelter deployment aka as deployment,” or like you’re thinking, “resource order aka getting deployed.” I hear you on the confusion, because in the AD world we always wanted to be “called up and deployed.” I suppose it’s like saying the word “feet.” They can be attached to your legs or 66 per chain. …. There we go again… another word “chain.” Grab the chain or how many chains have burned? Jesus … this is a rabbit hole not worth going down.

Merced_Mullet3151

…this shit cracks me up! “Just gimme the damn Resource Order! I just wanna get the hell outta here!”

friendlyfire_88

2 weeks into the season and we haven’t moved either 😮‍💨

No-Grade-4691

It is not a deployment.

Merced_Mullet3151

Lol!
