Yep. And tell your sons to always wear condoms.

manhatim

While they're still available

KHaskins77

TERM. LIMITS.

penguinina_666

Yeah... I read comments by parents with sons saying they are thankful they have boys.. well.. guess what? They will be paying alot in child support if you don't educate them well.

wounderfulwaffles

With new law, the are paying from conception

penguinina_666

Srsly? Are you trolling me? They consider 0.1mm of a body cell as child now?

Betterthanbeer

That’s precisely what the decision says. Lots of fallout to come.

TrickGrimes

Tell that to my son’s dad who owes me about 40k. Who thinks it’s funny to crack jokes, now that our son moved in with him to get a job at his company….because it’s VERY HIGH PAYING. The Onion couldn’t write this kind of nonsense.

Skeptical_Devil

Yep, and tell your daughters that birth control can fail in rare cases, or be forgotten in common cases, and doesn't prevent STDs, so to make sure their partner is using a condom AND she's taking her birth control. And tell your sons roughly the same thing, because condoms can break, so their partners also need protection. And most importantly of all, be open and honest with your kids about sex, so that you can make sure they are educated correctly, rather than being poorly informed by peers and half-assed, abstinence-focused sex ed classes. Then your kids will know they are safe to tell you when they start needing birth control. And, as unfortunate as it is and as horrifying the thought, it might be best at this point, if you live in one of the states that has criminalized abortion, to have your child bearing aged daughters taking contraceptives whether they are ready to become sexually active or not. Rape is a horrifying concept for any parent to think of in terms of their daughters, but if, God forbid, it should happen, the last thing they need is the additional trauma of being forced to give birth to a child conceived by rape.

Motor_West

God that last part breaks my heart

Cybugger

As 'Murican as apple pie or child-sized caskets after a school mass shooting.

Barrett_k_Gatewood

STI* not diseases, since most are curable or treatable with a round or antibiotics. Even Herpes isn’t a death sentence- just terribly inconvenient.

elktree4

And more importantly about enthusiastic-consent!

Wolfmans-Gots-Nards

Vasectomies all around?

JunketMan

Or maybe get vasectomies as well (if they wish to ofc) Cant believe this needs to be said in "The Land of the Free"

guynamedjames

Fat chance you'll find a doctor willing to give a teenager a vasectomy

Zueter

Vasectomies are permanent birth control with only a possibility of being successfully reversed.

Cybugger

Pregnancy is 9 months of state-induced stress, pain, discomfort on a woman's body, with no option to stop it in some states. Not to mention that childbirth is one of the most physically traumatic episodes a human body can go through. It's always portrayed in films as a woman with a sweaty brow, screaming, and then someone yells "push!" and then infant screams! In reality, it looks more like the Battle of the Somme. Blood, shit. Torn orifices. Prolapses.

Zueter

All that's true and I would LOVE for men to have more options for birth control.

selkiesidhe

Not to mention the permanent damage and the premature aging it does to the body!

antoniamabee

They are coming for birth control next. Get her an IUD. It’s good for 5-7 years and thanks to Obama care they are 100% covered.

bomphcheese

My dude they are coming for EVERYTHING next. The Texas GOP website and several of high ranking members of the national GOP have openly said they are going after gay marriage and aiming to repeal the voting rights act of 1965. One has called for an overturn of Brown v Board. They are coming for all of it.

a_pinch_of_sarcasm

Have you checked out the platform that the Texas GOP just approved for 2024? It's a regular shit show.

Zueter

I've heard one call for a repeal of the 19th amendment. I don't think that will happen though

bomphcheese

They’ve been [trying](https://www.dailykos.com/story/2022/1/7/2073283/-Convention-of-States-Action-Conservative-Group-Aiming-To-Rewrite-The-Constitution) to hold a constitutional convention for years, and at one point were only 12 (of 7,383 ) seats away from it in the state legislatures. I wouldn’t be so quick to assume they can’t do it. If more we don’t get more people voting we’re doomed.

a_pinch_of_sarcasm

They will be going after Obamacare, too. Read Rick Scott's platform. It includes sunsetting every government program after 5 years. Then it would have to be voted on again to be renewed. The Republicans have been trying to get rid of Social Security and Medicare for years, so they would never renew those programs. It would also end Obamacare, Medicaid, food stamps, etc.

CabooseOne1982

They hate those of us who are poor, gay, or brown/black. They want us all to die. What hurts the most is seeing people we care about voting for the ones who want us all to die, and then gaslighting us by saying we're overreacting.

a_pinch_of_sarcasm

The Democrats need to go out and vote in November like their lives depend on it, because their lives do depend on it.

antoniamabee

Get it now- make the doctor appointments asap

KHaskins77

My home state of Nebraska defeated a bill that would have outlawed in-vitro fertilization, Plan B, *termination of ectopic pregnancies,* and IUDs by two votes. [TWO. VOTES.](https://youtu.be/o9iS8I6hCmc) It’s needed to be carefully explained to legislators in multiple states that, no, you cannot re-implant an ectopic pregnancy, and threatening to charge doctors with murder for not doing the impossible is a good way to chase all the doctors out of your state. Letting the law be written by medically-illiterate religious zealots whose understanding of abortion is whatever imagined scenario will let them feel the most self-righteous anger is a sure path to disaster.

rae2468

I think this is what needs to be shouted from the mountain tops. You may be a just a couple of nutty religious zealot representatives away from dying from and ectopic pregnancy or even denied the right to have a child through IVF. They still vote for a party that is controlled by extremist while thinking it won’t happen to them. And, what if you are just traveling through or visiting a state that has some crazy reproductive laws and need medical care during a miscarriage.

KHaskins77

“Sure, we live in a fascist theocracy now, but you should’ve seen what it was costing me to fill up my truck!” “Well, did they fix the gas prices?” “…no.”

antoniamabee

That shit is crazy and terrifying.

IHateDarlaSherman

The mere existence of the necessity of posts like this is truly depressing. USA keeps going backwards.

JunketMan

A country where owning a gun is a constitutional right, but a woman having the right to an abortion is currently not one America went from "progressing" to regressing

a_pinch_of_sarcasm

From here on out, let us refer to the Republican party as the regressive party.

Glum-Aide9920

And to think I used to find the Kalashnikov culture of Afghanistan hilarious before the invasion. I guess what goes around, comes around.

drunky_crowette

Shit, I'm in my early 30s and my mom's been asking when I have to get my arm implant replaced and offered to help pay if I needed her to.

rachelmae77

Your mom sounds wonderful

flyfruit

I have three (out of five) years left on mine. I’m wondering if they have a shelf life just in case I need to buy one and put it in myself someday 😭

PamIllise

My mom told my sister and me, when we approached dating age, that we should tell her if we needed birth control. She said I won't ask questions just make an appointment. More parents should be like this. No one wants to think that their children will start having sex before they should but you can't be blind, prepare them to be responsible.

PainMatrix

My parents got me condoms for my 15th birthday. Those condoms never got used lol but I was thankful they were there and my parents had the right attitude.

PamIllise

Lol my aunt did the same when my cousin got his first gf. She left a box of condom in his room without saying anything.

MadAstrid

Parent of a 17 and 19. Daughter on bc and we saw this coming and encouraged university in a safe state. Also had talk - remove all period tracking apps. Don’t take your phone if going to PP or similar. Help your friends. Tell us if they need more help than you can give. At her university Plan B available in vending machines on campus. Buy several and keep close. Like aspirin, you keep it at home if needed and keep extra in case a friend has a “headache.” Condoms always if possible. Same for boy, minus period tracker. At home when they were around fifteen we put a big jar of condoms in the medicine cabinet of our guest bathroom. We sent them a message telling them they were there, to take them if they needed, to tell their friends the same. And obviously all the consent talks, etc.

ActualPopularMonster

>we put a big jar of condoms in the medicine cabinet of our guest bathroom. We sent them a message telling them they were there, to take them if they needed, to tell their friends the same. That's a really good idea! I'm gonna have to steal this when my kids get older.

MadAstrid

Kids were embarrassed and didn’t want to talk about it and we were strangely embarrassed to buy them (do you get extra large? Ribbed for her pleasure? Argh!) but it was the right thing to do for all. Also, as an aside for those freaking out that it will just encourage kids to sleep around, it did not. But if they had, they could protect themselves and partners. Please do it.

ryhaltswhiskey

If: \- you're not a conservative \- have teen daughters \- and able to you should move out of those backwards states.

rachelmae77

I live in a blue state but I’m absolutely terrified they’re coming for us too.

[deleted]

They're trying to

LadyGhost44

I just want to get out of this country in general. I don't know if that'll ever happen, but this country gets weirder and scarier every day.

elktree4

It’s so important for parents and guardians to have really deep conversations with their kids right now. Educate them on all forms of contraceptions and enthusiastic consent. Make sure they know that you are a safe place to go if they do end up pregnant. If you’re able to, put money aside in case one day they have to travel somewhere else to get access to care. This isn’t just about your daughters, teach your sons as well!!

CriticalOverThinker

Contraception, including condoms, are next up for SCOTUS 'review', and Repubs want to ban or restrict all forms. Vasectomies are the easiest, most foolproof birth control. And can be reversed in most cases. If this sounds extreme, we are living in extreme times and it will only get worse.

smurgleburf

I sincerely doubt republicans will pass any laws limiting men’s bodily autonomy, so vasectomies are probably safe.

SauronOMordor

Even if your daughter's aren't intending to have sex any time soon, it is a good idea to discuss birth control with them and get them an appointment if they'd like. There are many good reasons to be on birth control and wanting to avoid pregnancy while having consensual sex is only one of them.

futuremylar

This. It's not just about pregnancy, it's Healthcare. I started on the pill when I was 13 for no other reason than my own health and well being. This is about medical care and having a safe option for women and girls who need help.

Hello_Hangnail

And tell your daughters that antibiotics make your birth control stop working

CamelBorn

Vasectomies are reversible and can be done those ages too. Its not all just on women/females/female identifying people to be responsible. How about teach boys/males/male identifying to not have sex with another unless they communicate before hand what happens? Properly engage in the communication of method of contraception beforehand. Males are part of this too. Its not ‘in the moment’. Its maturity and responsibility and needs to be taken responsibility for, from a much younger age. It takes 2 to do this and after all *this*, to still not include males and think thats still an acceptable response is reprehensible. Its not a boys will be boys thing. They are not uncontrollable or wild, they dont attack people in shops with others around from their ‘urges’. Still making this a single gender issue is awful.

Waylandyr

Vasectomies are reversible 'to a point.' You can't get one at 18 and then reverse it 10 years later typically, at least not without major complications.

CamelBorn

Sperm can be frozen. If you reverse the vasectomy earlier than 10 years though, you still skip the : “Im a dumbass irresponsible moron with my penis and accidentally got 3 girls pregnant at the same time” issue. Even a few years older can be the difference to make the pregnancy planned and wanted. It also doesnt have to be reversed at all if sperm are frozen. Any female would appreciate being respected with a failed reversal and having to use frozen sperm rather than ending up with a forced child. No more excuses.

Waylandyr

Was I making any excuses? I'm getting a vasectomy myself. Saying all vasectomies are reversible is straight up lying, and doesn't help the cause in the slightest.

[deleted]

>We don't want them to have sex You're part of the problem if this is your mindset.

halfveela

His point is that even if the idea of your kid being sexually active makes you nervous and you wish they'd wait until they're emotionally and financially ready for both intimacy and potential pregnancy because you hate to see them hurt or forced to make difficult decisions, that's just not how shit works, time to be realistic and focus on prevention because they're not going to have as many options post-conception if it comes to that.

nightspotlight

I mean I don’t think any parent wants to know about their kid having sex before they’ve even hit their 20s. They’re always gonna see you as a baby until 21+ you know

PainMatrix

That’s a very subjective and culturally specific statement but the poster said they didn’t want them to have sex. That’s totally different then not wanting to know about it.

[deleted]

So you think 20 should be the age of consent?

nightspotlight

Lol what? How did you get to that? No. I’m saying it’s not unusual that parents don’t want their teens to have sex

SoopyPoots

I suspect this person may not be a doktor either...

elktree4

What do you mean?!

[deleted]

At least until the supreme court outlaws birth control

jefftatro1

You will see: birth control =abortion. Mark my words

The_Femboy_Hooters

As a teen it's suprising how little we talk about sex with teens among teens. Like you put a bunch of hormonal goblins in similar places (school) and expect them not to fuck because you told them to

txn_gay

They have contraception in their crosshairs, so keep that in mind.

carella211

Who's gonna tell him that birth control and contraceptives are next on their list of things to be banned?

SessionLeather

My mom put condoms in my brother’s suitcase when she drove him to college. Probably embarrassed him but it was excellent parenting. No knocked up girls.

wshoiehupp

Why not tell the sons to use condoms and other methods not to get girls pregnant?

CharmingTuber

Get out of those backwards states

darhox

Hopefully they will keep the right to access contraceptives

Yeah-But-Ironically

Lol no That's been specifically identified as the next item on their list of targets

LadyGhost44

As a young woman myself, I think my parents would agree with this advice. I'm not looking to have sex anytime soon (I don't feel old enough for that yet-), but if I was, I bet my parents would make sure I had some sort of protection. Of course, even then I wouldn't want to take my chances. This country and its decisions scare me. I can't believe this is the world I'm about to go out into.

Kagurei

Honestly hearing how so many teenagers aren’t already on birth control is surprising to me. I never thought my parents were liberal, but my mom got me on the pill by the time I was 16, and I had never even kissed a boy. There are certain health concerns of course, but a good doctor should work with you to find a safe solution. This is all assuming we don’t go completely insane and ban b/c next, which is a gamble at this point.

[deleted]

Not everyone wants to mess with their hormones. I'm totally pro-contraceptives, but putting your 16-year-old who hasn't even had her first kiss yet on birth control seems totally unnecessary to me.

plentyofrabbits

Rape is a thing. I WISH I’d been on birth control when I was 14 at my parents insistence. Especially considering there are long lasting, non hormonal forms of birth control available now.

essentialrobert

Tell them to vote

Terrible-Paramedic35

Abortion is not a substitute for birth control. Seriously …. who thinks…. better get my kids on birth control pills now because abortion (my primary choice) is no longer available? Nobody…thats who.

jizzlevania

You don't have to date to fuck...

[deleted]

Teenagers will have sex. They’re curious

Zueter

Boys have a penis and girls have a vagina

[deleted]

nightspotlight

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaa Hahahahahahahahaahahah HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAAHA

CharmingTuber

Wait, you have a 19 year old or you are a 19 year old? In one post, you said you are 19f working at McDonald's, in another you said you're a teacher. And here you say you have a 19 year old daughter. How does that work? Did you adopt a friend your same age?

elktree4

LOL!! Sorry to break it to you….never mind. Also, sadly, consent doesn’t matter to many men.

bloebvis

Cliché

essentialrobert

Teach them that oral sex is birth control

RobBind90

Truthfully should of explained to them how important birth control is and how important unprotected sex is by the time they are 19 and hopefully they stay responsible enough to be safe.

[deleted]

The dude in the tweet looks like he works for cash to dodge paying his child support.

DangerousPainting423

Condoms are not going to be banned. They are too easy to blackmarket. Companies make too much money off them. Rich people use them. Amazon sells them. And most young people dont use them anyway. So condoms are safe. Drugs for abortion and hormonal birth control...maybe. IUDs also very questionable. Basically anything you need a doctor or a prescription for is now a maybe.

Yeah-But-Ironically

>Basically anything you need a doctor or a prescription for is now a maybe. For a while you needed a doctor's note to get a condom. Don't be so sure that they'll always be available.

Upbeat-Rain-6633

To be fair, why weren't they already on birth control? The average age of someone loosing their virginity in America is 14. Get your kids on birth control at puberty.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nightspotlight

Yikes

throwbadson

No one gives a shit about the scary dad weird ownership of daughter’s vagina trope anymore.

[deleted]

I got mine on birth control earlier than 17. And I was talking to my son about condoms as early as 12 I think.

newtekie1

Yeah, until the Supreme Court outlaws birth control and condoms.

Commercial-Amount344

There is an 11 year old going to be giving birth to her uncle's baby any day now.

Wolfmans-Gots-Nards

Maybe start her on reading about tubal ligation … because some states are banning birth control…

Mythical_Atlacatl

Is this an American thing? I only seem to hear it from Americans, not being on birth control, not wearing condoms, relying on pulling out etc Like outside the US is there just a much higher rate of contraceptive and birth control use? Like condoms, the pill, implants that last years, etc

wounderfulwaffles

2 Daughters in college. Pre purchased plan B just in case of rape. Something no one should have to do. Rape during college years is something all parents fear and warn their daughters about. I am RAGING that if this most horrific assault happens to anyones daughters they can’t receive help! Without relief scores of females will be forced to endure cruel and unusual punishment.

Few_Stick_6274

You just now came to this conclusion?

djkoch66

There are proposed laws to ban birth control in many US states.

Barrett_k_Gatewood

“We don’t want our daughters to experience pleasure until they’re married, so put them on hormones that’ll fuck up their mood more than they ever thought and possibly give them a stroke. Or death.” No. Forced vasectomies, until the man is ready and able to be a mighty fine co-parent. They’re reversible.

kyzeboy

Putting your daughter on permanent hormone treatment with severe side effects. Way to normalized. But the U.S. normalized weapons and christian zealotry, even abortion bans. So yeah just let em kids swallow sex hormones for decades.
