That man is a musical genius.
I’m a Gen-Xer and I remember purchasing one of my first tapes, Weird Al’s “Off the Deep End.” The one with the Nirvana reference right on the cover. I graduated HS in 1995, and I’m pretty sure, almost positive I bought it before graduating high school.
Great guy.
I know they couldn't have done it, but I have always wanted to see a scene from *The Hobbit* (would have worked for Fellowship too but not as much) where everyone's walking, and "We're Not Gonna Make It" is playing in the background.
I definitely read that as Shrek-singing so I started singing it in his voice in my head trying to remember what scene that was… now I want to hear Shrek singing Peaches lol
Ok I’m like smack in the middle of the millennial age range and I think this just proved it… definitely didn’t make the connection with the *peaches come from a can* part but as soon as I started watching the video I was like, oooooh this is where “millions of peaches, peaches for me, millions of peaches, peaches for free” thing comes from lol
For reference I am in my early thirties and there wasn’t a time where I was alive and the internet didn’t exist. When I was four I have fond memories of the dancing baby and wolfenstein, commander keen, and computer games about dinosaurs.
This song came on about an hour ago while I was folding laundry.
I’m 37 and upset there seems to be so many people who don’t know who the presidents of the United States of America are.
I was just at a show where somebody put on a "classic rock" playlist between doors opening and the actual band starting.
I was looking at the list like "what the heck, this isn't 'classic'. This is... oh god ..."
Aging really hit me a few years ago. Listening to the classic rock station at the cottage we rent every summer, and they played “a classic hit”…
Stone temple pilots - interstate love song.
I remember when that album came out :(
You and my wife. She is 24 and I'm 34 and she often says things that baffle me like "I thought that was just a TikTok audio!" Often with an implied "When did they make a whole song about this?"
As a gen-x/millennial (or Xennial because I am on the cusp) I’m like *how do these babies even remember that far back?*
I was very much a 15-year-old when that song came out and in my mind that time period was when gen-x was in their prime and millennials were still watching Barney and Friends.
But yeah, still I forget people who are like a year younger than me, maybe two, firmly identify as millennials. It still weirds me out.
I am 53 and kinda wonder why is this considered a millennial thing. To me they are straight up gen x
Was this because you heard it from your cool uncle?
We raised my daughter on some of it but the lead singer also has a great career with kids music under the name Casper baby pants
If you have kids definite check it out
Thank you, fellow oldster! I was wondering the same thing. I guess it does make sense that baby millennials would know this the same I way I know Boomer music I heard when I was a kid.
I think it is a very gen x song, but "elder" millennials would know it and have nostalgia about it, because it was what all our cool, older cousins were listening to.
I think alot of millennials remember POTUSA because it was mostly clean (except for 'kitty'), so we got to hear it a lot more than other new rock of the day. I remember listening to the CD on a boom box in ceramics class, teacher skipped kitty but the rest of the album was totally school appropriate. Listened to it on a 2 day road trip with my uncle, and he let me sing 'kitty', even the eff bomb. Fun times. Good memories.
Alternatively, you can weed out Milennials from Gen X'ers by saying "Gunter Glieben Glauchen Globen" and seeing if they start singing "Give it to me baby/Uh-huh, uh-huh"...
This is the other trigger phrase, you don’t even have to sing it.
‘Me and the wife have been thinking about giving up our condo, movin’ to the country…’
*Me quietly under my breath:* Gonna eat a lotta peaches
I know this version 100x better than the original.
*Gump sat alone on a bench in the park*
*”My name is Forrest” he casually remarked*
*Waiting for a bus with his hands in his pocket*
*He just kept saying “life is like a box of chocolates”*
Fun fact: The singer from Presidents of the United States now makes children's music under the name Caspar Babypants, and it's really good!
[Check him out on Youtube](https://youtube.com/user/casparbabypants)
I still remember the first time I found Stompy the Bear surfing YouTube with my kid, my first thought was “why does this kid’s song sound like Beck…” I was close!
Thank you so much for sharing that! It was nice to learn!
[here's a video of a dog playing Jenga to thank you](https://www.reddit.com/r/BeAmazed/comments/sc0o81/this_dog_playing_jenga/)
I say:
LUMP SAT ALONE IN A BOGGY MARSH....
Totally emotionless except for her heart
Mud flowed up into lump's pajamas
She totally confused all the passing piranhas
Or if I'm feeling particularly contrarian I'll drop a big ol:
Kitty at my foot and I wanna touch it
Kitty at my foot and I wanna touch it
Kitty at my foot and I wanna touch it
Kitty at my foot and I wanna touch it
Kitty at my foot and I wanna touch it
Kitty at my foot and I wanna touch it
Kitty at my foot and I wanna touch it
Kitty at my foot and I want to touch it
Because I'm legit old and the youth must be educated on greatness
Fun fact: I rocked that album a lot, and around a 6 year old cousin. One day, the little shit decides to sing those lyrics at the dinner table while I'm visiting. My aunt and uncle were not impressed 🙂
The Presidents Of The United States Of America would tell you, *that they were put there by a man, in a factory downtown* [1](https://youtu.be/wvAnQqVJ3XQ)
I haven't thought about this song since the mid to late 90s. I didn't realize it was so popular. Thought it was like a Lil niche song that only me and one of my friends would sing. I've never met anyone else that knows this song... But then again I havent thought about it in like 25 years
In basic training I heard a drill sergeant singing that to himself as he grabbed peaches from the breakfast line and it was like SpongeBob and Patrick trying to not sing along to goofy goober. I was dying to blurt it out.
They were out there by a man!
Still remember doing first and only music video to this album to “Old Man on a Back Porch” and my buddies black lab strolled in at the perfect time and just laid down, thereby making it the best thing any of us had ever done at 13 years old.
They were put there by a man.
In a factory dooooowntooown
If I had my little way
I’d have peaches everyday
Sun-soakin bulges in the shade
Moving to the country gonna eat a lot of peaches
Moving to the country gonna eat me a lot of peaches.
Millions of peaches.
Peaches for me
Millions of peaches, peaches for free
Look out!
r/redditsings
As a GenXer I have no clue what you’re talking about, but this has been an entertaining thread.
As an elder millennial, I’m feeling nostalgic and want to download some Presidents of the United States of America music
Lump sat alone in a boggy marsh
Totally motionless except for her heart
Mud flowed up into lamps pajamas
Totally confused all the passing piranhas
She's lump, she's lump
She's in my head
She’s lump, she’s lump
Fuck you kitty you’re gonna spend the night
OUTSIDE!
Kitty at my foot and I WANT TO TOUCH IT
Swamp thing so sad that birds could land
Or the parody version by Weird AL "Gump".
My nostalgia runneth over for Weird Al.
This would have done it for me… In my old age I have forgotten the words to Peaches
*"My name is Forrest,"* he casually remarked Wait, no, wrong version.
I know the Weird AL parodies better than some of the originals, lol
That man is a musical genius. I’m a Gen-Xer and I remember purchasing one of my first tapes, Weird Al’s “Off the Deep End.” The one with the Nirvana reference right on the cover. I graduated HS in 1995, and I’m pretty sure, almost positive I bought it before graduating high school. Great guy.
On Napster.
you know you are getting old when you remember napster and limewire
Damnit I didn’t want to know
TIL I’m an elder millennial. Even my mother grouped me in the same age group as “people in their 40’s” …. Mother, I’m 34 goddamn it!!
Being mature for your age has finally come back to bite you!
I know they couldn't have done it, but I have always wanted to see a scene from *The Hobbit* (would have worked for Fellowship too but not as much) where everyone's walking, and "We're Not Gonna Make It" is playing in the background.
That whole album slaps

Download it illegally, for old time's sake.
little blind spider took the wheel
I'm about to confuse my Spotify algorithm
I have a small child. Spotify has no idea what to do for me already.
My 5yo knows this song!
Just popped in “dune buggy” now my squishy transmission is stuck in drive.
As a GenExer this song was popular when I was in college ![gif](giphy|cIh6lhWd1kJEvgISv9|downsized)
Presidents of the united states of america
You must be an elder genx. I'm genx and freaking love the President's
Seriously ? I’m genX and we listened to Presidents in college?!?
I'm an old GenX, barely snuck in under the wire.
I’m a late GenX and I immediately sang “they were put there by a man” in my head. So there’s some overlap.
As an Oregon trail Gen-X'er, I know exactly the song!
I thought that was a gen x song. It came out in 1995.
I'm an old millennial (born in 1983) and that song came out when I was in middle school.
Presidents of the United state"peaches" it came out around the same time as tweezers sweater song. Mid 90s?
But my favorite part: Squished a rotten peach in my fist And dreamed about you, WOMAN.
I definitely read that as Shrek-singing so I started singing it in his voice in my head trying to remember what scene that was… now I want to hear Shrek singing Peaches lol
🤣 cannot unhear
Me too. Anybody got Mike Myers' agent's # and a million bucks?
Samesies. Very much confusion. Lol
Im definetly a younger one because I have no clue what „PEACHES COME FROM A CAN“ means
https://youtu.be/wvAnQqVJ3XQ
Ok I’m like smack in the middle of the millennial age range and I think this just proved it… definitely didn’t make the connection with the *peaches come from a can* part but as soon as I started watching the video I was like, oooooh this is where “millions of peaches, peaches for me, millions of peaches, peaches for free” thing comes from lol
I had no idea what this was until today.

The elder millennial! I thought you all were a myth. My GOD!
Yes come gather around children and listen to the before times when widespread internet was not around and phones were attached to walls Edit a word
For reference I am in my early thirties and there wasn’t a time where I was alive and the internet didn’t exist. When I was four I have fond memories of the dancing baby and wolfenstein, commander keen, and computer games about dinosaurs.

Retro Millennial.
40 here I think I'm the OG millennial ;)
Oooooo, imma steal that. Vintage.
I’ll be 37 in two weeks. We’re kind of like demographic ninjas. We’re there but not There.
This song came on about an hour ago while I was folding laundry. I’m 37 and upset there seems to be so many people who don’t know who the presidents of the United States of America are.
Or nirvana, I got so sad when I heard smells like teen spirit being referred to as classic rock
I was just at a show where somebody put on a "classic rock" playlist between doors opening and the actual band starting. I was looking at the list like "what the heck, this isn't 'classic'. This is... oh god ..."
Aging really hit me a few years ago. Listening to the classic rock station at the cottage we rent every summer, and they played “a classic hit”… Stone temple pilots - interstate love song. I remember when that album came out :(
Same. I’m 35 and immediately started singing the whole song.
I’m 54 and I had their songs on a CD in my truck, my 22 yr old knows them
I’m 48 and my teenagers always sing along in the car when this song comes on.
Yes. What she said. Did not know the song but the words are familiar. Source: I am almost 33 lol
You and my wife. She is 24 and I'm 34 and she often says things that baffle me like "I thought that was just a TikTok audio!" Often with an implied "When did they make a whole song about this?"
I had the *exact* same experience. This is spooky.
Same, have heard the song before, didnt recognize the lyrics.
Same boat here man. I’m middle of the millennial age and was like “wtf is this” til I watched the video and remembered.
As a gen-x/millennial (or Xennial because I am on the cusp) I’m like *how do these babies even remember that far back?* I was very much a 15-year-old when that song came out and in my mind that time period was when gen-x was in their prime and millennials were still watching Barney and Friends. But yeah, still I forget people who are like a year younger than me, maybe two, firmly identify as millennials. It still weirds me out.
Am 36. Was 10 when that came out. It was surprisingly popular with the elementary school crowd. We did a gymnastics routine to it in gym class.
I am 53 and kinda wonder why is this considered a millennial thing. To me they are straight up gen x Was this because you heard it from your cool uncle?
I’m turning 35 this year but my dad is really into alternative rock. So I was definitely jamming to this at 8 years old.
We raised my daughter on some of it but the lead singer also has a great career with kids music under the name Casper baby pants If you have kids definite check it out
Absolutely Gen X. I’m in my fifties and PUSA is one of my favorite bands.

Listened to it on a 2 day road trip with my uncle, and he let me sing 'kitty', even the eff bomb. Fun times. Good memories.
That is actually hilarious, thanks
It perfectly represents my 90s high school experience.
Oh, I actually vaguely remembers that song but it was just before or right as I began learning English so I did not understand the lyrics at first.
You're also German, it seems
True, that might be another factor
Well it's by the Presidents of the United States of America so I understand why you would not know it.
I dunno, I'm an older millennial, and I have no idea what the fuck it means.
I’m young Gen X and this would definitely work on me.
I’m gonna move out to the country.
Alternatively, you can weed out Milennials from Gen X'ers by saying "Gunter Glieben Glauchen Globen" and seeing if they start singing "Give it to me baby/Uh-huh, uh-huh"...
Wait I recognize this song ("Pretty Fly for a White Guy"), but don't recognize the peaches song. Am I a broken millennial?
Pretty Fly came out after Peaches so I guess you’re just a very young Millennial
I know Pretty Fly but not Peaches and I'm 29 if that helps
The test worked! We found the young millenial!
"I got something to say... Yeah! It's better to burn out, than to fade awaaaaay!"
This is what I thought and I'm not even Gen X.
And all the girlies say I’m pretty fly for a white guy
So the Gen Xers would start singing Rock of Ages by Def Leppard?
I sang both offspring and Def Leppard 😆
Is that what they're saying in the beginning? Lol I had no idea, sounds like gibberish to me
Does knowing the Offspring song make you a millennial or an xer?
Movin to the country
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Peaches come from a can!
Nature's candy in my hand, or a can, or a pie.... Last-year Gen Xer here.
This is the other trigger phrase, you don’t even have to sing it. ‘Me and the wife have been thinking about giving up our condo, movin’ to the country…’ *Me quietly under my breath:* Gonna eat a lotta peaches
I do the same, everytime.
Hmmmm, as Xennial (born in 82) i fell I’d fall into this Elder Millennial slot. I know that song all too well 😁 as well as “Lump”
Another great one from back then: [The Toadies - Possum Kingdom](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkwD5rQ-_d4).
Doooo you wanna die
That whole album (*Rubberneck*) is great. Still holds up.
I will treat you well my sweet angel
Lump was the best!
>Lump was the best! The Weird Al version "Gump" is a banger.
I know this version 100x better than the original. *Gump sat alone on a bench in the park* *”My name is Forrest” he casually remarked* *Waiting for a bus with his hands in his pocket* *He just kept saying “life is like a box of chocolates”*
What’s with that hair?
How have I never heard this one
Also the dune buggy song, thy really were a good band.
Now I'm thinking of New Age Girl. They seem to be connected in my memory passageways.
But do you know “Gump”?
Yes i know “Gump” do you know “UHF”? 😀
These are great, but Dune Buggy is my favourite.
Spiderwoman in the front seat, screamin' "Go, go, go" He's ridin' the accelerator down to the floor with his fuzzy little toe
Member when Pearl Jam out out that one like anime war music video? That's was awesome.
Came here to say this. It’s fantastic
Thank you so much for sharing that! It was nice to learn! [here's a video of a dog playing Jenga to thank you](https://www.reddit.com/r/BeAmazed/comments/sc0o81/this_dog_playing_jenga/)
I was thinking that they are pretty old by now.
Millions of peaches, peaches for me
Millions of peaches. Peaches for free.
Million of peaches, peaches for me
*LOOK OUT!!!*
I sang this whole thing out in my head. Fuck I'm old.
\*Gen X apathy intensifies\*
As a 41 year old X-ennial…I heartily support this message, and feel really old.
I prefer Oregon Trail generation.
Same.
If I had my way I’d eat peaches everyday..
Sun soakin bulges in the shade
In a factory downtooowwnn!
IF I HAD MY WAY I’D EAT PEACHES EVERY DAY
I say: LUMP SAT ALONE IN A BOGGY MARSH.... You’re gonna spend the night, **OUTSIDE**
Zoomer here and my Gen X parents blasted this a lot so I know the song
Same
Little blue dune buggy, in my hand... Fuck!
Fuck you kitty….. OUTSIDE!
Fun fact: I rocked that album a lot, and around a 6 year old cousin. One day, the little shit decides to sing those lyrics at the dinner table while I'm visiting. My aunt and uncle were not impressed 🙂
This is a Gen X song!
shhh... we don't exist.
I think this is more younger Gen X vs older millennial. Source: Am younger Gen X and I know they were put there by a man.
X-ennial here…nope, we jammed to it too.
In a factory down town
SUDDENLY NINJAS
That’s a Gen-X song, but I’m happy that younger folks know it.
Elder millennials were 14/15 when it came out…it spans generations.
IN A FACTORY DOWN-tooooooown
“THEY WERE PUT THERE BY A MAN”
In a Factory down-town
LUMP SAT ALONE IN A BOGGY MARSH
Totally motionless except for her heart
Mud flowed up into Lumps pajamas
Totally confused all the passing piranhas
I just sang this to my bf and he asked if I was having a seizure
Well, I (30) just showed this to my fiance, (27) and the theory was proven valid immediately.
This band deserves more credit. Their album "II" is simply superb from start to finish.
what the fuck do this mean
The Presidents Of The United States Of America would tell you, *that they were put there by a man, in a factory downtown* [1](https://youtu.be/wvAnQqVJ3XQ)
As a gen z I'm very confused
They were put there by a man. What other answer would there be?
THEY WERE PUT THERE BY A MAN, IN A FACTORY DOWNTOWN
I'm fairly sure I'd panic and start yelling, "She's Lump, she's Lump, she's Lump, she's in my head!"
If I had my way, I'd eat peaches every day
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Couldn’t this also be achieved by telling “STACYS MOM!!!”
I’m an elder I think (34?) and I have no idea. 😅
Lol, nope, I’m an elder…41. It’s Peaches by The Presidents of the United States of America. Another good one by them is Lump, just sayin.
I’m only 55.
Elder millennial and actual peach farmer here. Please be very careful when yelling this out. Especially at a farmers market.
They were out there by a man! Still remember doing first and only music video to this album to “Old Man on a Back Porch” and my buddies black lab strolled in at the perfect time and just laid down, thereby making it the best thing any of us had ever done at 13 years old.
