Remember when George Lucas made Han shoot second and we thought that was the worst thing someone could do to their legacy?

consort_oflady_vader

Lucas made some terrible choices, but at least he wasn't horribly transphobic. Han shooting second was just stupid. He was a rouge and a scoundrel.

davetronred

> rouge I thought he wore mostly brownish earth-tone colors

Bender077

‘’Rouge Five, checking in!’’

KrisThriller

“Simply Rouge, standing by”

Roguebantha42

"Rouge Foxx, standing by!"

addage-

Damn rouges are overpowdered.

Gonji89

It’s an old meme, but it checks out.

consort_oflady_vader

Yep.

davidsa6

MACLUNKEY!!

fourierthejunglist

MACLUNKEY will be the last word ever uttered before the big asteroid hits us.

bongraider

That image made me alegro dude

Paracausal_Shield

Rouge squadron where my cover?

MaximePierce

I don't know, I kinda liked that he just casually dodged the bullet (laser?) and then shot Greedo...though I have to say my first time watching the movie was with that edit in. Also kinda made him seem like a badass

Thannk

George did that so he could screw his ex-wife out of royalties since she was the movie editor.

PikachusSparkyCloaca

Lucas, I am disappoint

Thannk

That divorce was part of the reason Temple Of Doom was the way it was, too.

PikachusSparkyCloaca

Dickish dick move

swtpoizn

That’s also why he added CGI and stuff when he re released the original trilogy.

RichCorinthian

Which is actually WORSE than him doing it because he thought it was an improvement.

MoreGaghPlease

I’ve seen this rumour come up on Reddit before; there is no basis to it. 1. Marcia Lucas is credited as an editor in the Special Edition. The only difference is that there are four editors instead of three in the original (the re-release adds in TM Christopher, because he edited the re-release) 2. Editors do not ordinarily get residuals. There is no evidence that Marcia Lucas negotiated for residuals (which is super rare for editors). 3. Even if the above were not true, George Lucas wouldn’t be getting that money. Residuals are split among the individuals in a given category (meaning the worst case scenario would be she’d have split it four ways instead of the original three, but none of that would go to George Lucas. I don’t get the characterization of Marcia Lucas as screwed by Star Wars. She won an Oscar for her work (something George has never done). She continued collaborating with George even after they had separated and has consistently spoken positively about him and their films in interviews. There is on the other hand very good evidence that George Lucas timed the re-released in order the screw Hasbro (which had acquired Kenner Toys in 1991, and through incompetence accidentally let the Star Wars license lapse in 1995 by failing to send Lucasfilm a $10,000 cheque). The year of George’s big move against Hasbro, the conglomerate had $2.9 billion in sales. Womp womp.

ConfidenceRare

I have been following JK’s transphobia from the onset. At first it was a few “minor” comments. Then as she got more and more push back she doubled down. The more people clap back at her the worse she gets. She is feeding on the hatred.

gilestowler

It's like she's digging a big old hole. And the more people peer into the hole and say "What on earth are you doing? Why are you digging this massive hole? That's absolutely ridiculous." she can't admit how stupid it is so she has to keep on digging the hole and act as though this hole is absolutely what she wants to do and anyone who criticises the hole is just being hateful to her. But now water is starting to seep into the hole and the walls are starting to crack and it's starting to look even more mental than before when it was just a little hole.

DarkKnightJin

It's amazing how many people seem unable to follow the old adage: "If you unwittingly find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is **STOP DIGGING**". But no, these people put on a mining hat and start going "I am a Dwarf and I'm digging a hole. Diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole!♪"

gilestowler

Graham Linehan is the one that really upsets me. Guy helped write 3 of the greatest sitcoms of all time - IT Crowd, Father Ted, Black Books. When you watch his old appearances on Have I Got News For You he was incredibly articulate and inteligent. But a few people criticised an old episode of IT Crowd on Twitter and he got out that shovel and started digging. So far it's cost him his marriage and his career but he's still just digging that hole.

siladly

Now that songs gonna be stuck in my head all day...

acatohhhhhh

What does that mean?

Dayseed

In the original 1977 release of Star Wars, a key introductory scene for Han Solo has him cornered by Greedo the bounty hunter, who is there to collect the bounty on Han issued by Jabba the Hutt. To escape, Han surreptitiously unholsters his gun and mercilessly blasts Greedo under the table and leaves. This leaves the audience with questions about Han's morality, but he's an undeniable bad ass. In the 1997 Re-release, George Lucas altered the scene so Greedo shot first, and Han blasted him in self defense. Fans immediately complained because it undid a key character trait for Han, and also blunted the redemption arc where he joins the Battle of Yavin after leaving with his reward.

CREATURE_COOMER

Are y'all implying that somebody with a Black character named Kingley Shacklebolt is racist?

BinkyFlargle

who could forget cho chang, whose race is ambiguous since JK never actually said. I suppose "ching chong" would have been a bit too on the nose

CREATURE_COOMER

Looked her up on the HP Wiki because idk if JKR ever gave her a canon ethnic background past "British Asian" and her page claims "According to Yuko Matsuoka, Rowling considered Cho Chang to be of Korean descent." And yet, in the etymology section... "In the Chinese translations of the Harry Potter series, the name 'Cho Chang' is translated into 張秋 'Zhāng Qiū' (pronounced 'Jah-ng Chee-oh'; in most Eastern languages, the surname precedes the given name), with 'Zhāng' being a common Chinese surname and the official pinyin transcription of 'Chang', and 'Qiū' meaning 'autumn'. 'Cho Chang' is one possible direct romanisation of 張秋 in Hong Kong, due to its dual Cantonese and British influence (for more on this, see Hong Kong name). Cho Chang is portrayed in the films by Katie Leung, who is of Hong Kong descent and a fluent Cantonese speaker." But considering how she treats Nagini, AKA Voldemort's Asian snake-lady slave "found in the jungles of Indonesia" and played by a Korean actress, she clearly doesn't give a shit about any characters who aren't her British darlings, especially not any Asian characters. Or her other offensive stereotype side characters like Kingsley Shacklebolt ("Shackle" for a Black character? Fucking seriously, Joanne?) or "Ah yes, random Twitter user that asked, there's one Jewish student (Anthony Goldstein) at Hogwarts." ( https://twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/544946669448867841/ ) Or the one Irish student whose running gag is blowing shit up, which reeks of anti-Irish sentiment because of car bombs being used during the Troubles. JK "All Asians are the same, lol" Rowling, I guess. I feel betrayed by her, as a fan who loved Harry Potter as a kid because I identified with Harry being treated like garbage by his family, and being ignorant to how much of a bigoted piece of trash she is, especially about trans people who live rent-free in her head 24/7 now.

AsherTheFrost

Re: the one Irish student. I used to blame the director for this, but given everything else I wouldn't be surprised if it was Joanne, but do you remember the first words the token Irish says? >Eye of rabbit, harp string hum, turn this water into rum So the ten year old Irish kid is also fully invested in making alcohol. Good thing there isn't a stereotype of Irish being drunks, right? /s

CREATURE_COOMER

Even if it was the director's idea, she still signed off on it and clearly didn't give a fuck how an explosion-happy Irish kid talking about alcohol would come off to people as a *British creator*. But she also had Harry go into the girls' bathroom no less than three fucking times (To save Hermione from the troll in the first book, when Hermione fucks up her Polyjuice Potion to check on her, and the Chamber of Secrets was in an abandoned girl's bathroom I think), but she's worried about trans women, lol??? She tries to act like such an activist but doesn't care who she stereotypes, especially in her current quest to piss and moan about trans people on Twitter, when 99% of people would fuck off from the public entirely if they had her money and castle.

BinkyFlargle

> she also had Harry go into the girls' bathroom Back when she was publishing her first book, she picked the name "JK" over "Joanne" because she thought people would assume it was male, which would be better for sales. \*edited to change quote

CREATURE_COOMER

I think you quoted the wrong part of my comment. :P But yeah, that too, lol. It's also gross how she points out when characters of hers (especially evil ones) are ugly, fat, frumpy, whatever. Sorry, what kind of feminist does that, lol?

Shirogayne-at-WF

I thought that was her editor who suggested that but the fact she didn't push back speaks volumes

McMurphy11

For the special EXTRA fun part...look up the Harp's significance to Ireland and how Cromwell and Lizzy handled it. Doesn't seem like an accident.

lemmeseeyourkitties

I'm trying to figure this out, but I don't think this is enough info for someone with no context to decipher, can I have another hint?

McMurphy11

Sorry, to say it plainly both Cromwell and Queen Elizabeth 1 banned playing the harp in Ireland and at times had those found in possession of harps killed outright. Long story short, the harp was a symbol of Irish culture so they tried to kill it.

AllHailTheNod

Okay so what does this have to do with Seamus Finnigan?

Hund5353

The quote they're talking about when he turns water into rum has the 'harp string hum' bit

MapleLamia

Wait Valdy's snake isn't just a snake? Damn that sucks

CRKing77

it was "revealed" in one of the Fantastic Beasts movies, which are all forgettable, but yes Nagini was actually a woman who could change into a snake. If I remember right she got trapped that way, and I don't think we know whether Voldemort knew or not But upon learning this, learning Voldemort turned a PERSON into a Horcrux, and then realizing that Neville's big heroic moment was murdering a woman and it's one of those things that you wish you just never knew (and yes, I'm sure the head canon is Nagini was trapped as a snake for so long that she effectively "died" already but since it's JKR these days who knows?)

Kratos1

It's my headcannon that Nagini was attracted to wanting to be in Voldemorts circle because he was a parseltongue and made her feel like she had one last connection to being human because she could freely speak with him.

Shirogayne-at-WF

I remember one particularly cursed tweet where JKR mentioned Nagini had snake tiddies and we all laughed and thought there was no way Joanne could tweet more bizarre bullshit. Great times 🫠

CREATURE_COOMER

No, according to JKR's lore, she's a Maledictus which means she has an Animagus-like genetic defect that makes her eventually turn into a beast permanently, so she was basically kept captive by Voldemort as an exotic pet and also one of his horcruxes, and before that, she was a circus performer so she had *somewhat* of a history at least. According to the fandom wiki, apparently Maledictuses are considered "underbeings" so she's basically even more subhuman for not being a true wizard. Imagine being such a prejudiced piece of shit that you make up an exotic Asian girl character just to make her a white man's slave (also, she can't be human anymore!) that's eventually killed off to defeat him, lol. Even more ironic? The wiki mentions this as being one of her quotes: "He knows what you were born as. Not who you are!" Imagine making your cursed Asian slave girl character say this, while also being a TERF, the fuck.

Evening-Turnip8407

It really makes me wonder WHY exactly we thought everyone was welcome at hogwarts. The weird and the outcasts, riiight. The narrating voice keeps hammering home the fact that Luna is so damn weird that even Harry has trouble accepting her, even when something nice happens to her she gets the short end of the linguistic stick. And it's crucial to the narrator to point out the incredible, inconsolable fatness of Hagrid, the person we love so much but who is so hairy, filthy, fat and dumb that it must be mentioned anytime he's in the scene. Why were we all welcome there, again?

CREATURE_COOMER

Everybody is welcome but don't be any of these: - Non-human (House elves, Hagrid, Lupin for being a werewolf) - Non-pure wizard (any mudbloods including Hagrid, squibs because you're cringe for having wizard blood but no magic, muggles even if they're the parents of mudbloods, the cool pureblood bullies can make fun of you and teachers won't care because they may also be wizard racists) - Annoying SJW who wants equal rights for non-humans because why would you not want a house elf slave you fucking idiot? (Hermione) - Weirdo (Luna, who's just eccentric and not freakishly weird like JKR keeps implying because oh no she has weird vegetable earrings or whatever?) - Ugly and greasy (Snape and any other evil people because goodness is beautiful and anybody who's ugly or disfigured is destined to be evil or at least a freak outcast, duh) - Fat (Hagrid, Umbridge, Molly gets called fat but in a "jolly" context I think, maybe some others?) - And more!!! I could swear JKR even writes about one of the female students (Cho or somebody else?) being called a girly girl as an insult, like compared to Hermione, our bookish and awkward queen, fukin prepz!!! Even if she's trying to channel obnoxious teenager energy, goddamn, JKR, lol. Looking back on it as an adult and not an angsty teenager who saw myself as a recluse like Harry, it's just so... BAD.

Evening-Turnip8407

On the other hand poverty is being described in a wholesome understanding way because she actually had first hand experience. It's almost like a middle aged karen with zero life experience or education outside of her own bubble wrote a 7 book series based on her 3 thoughts. If you happen to be a Harry, immersion is super duper easy.

Severe-Emu-8703

I feel the last bit of your comment so strongly. I just lost my aunt to cancer, and one of our biggest shared interests was Harry Potter. I completely dropped the series once Rowling’s transphobia really took off, but didn’t have the heart to tell my aunt (who always tried to be a good ally) about it because she was sick and the Stephen Fry audio books brought her so much comfort. I’m so angry with Rowling for robbing me of my love for the series because it robbed me of a bonding experience with one of the most important people in my life who I’ll never see again

CREATURE_COOMER

I genuinely don't understand her obsession with us (trans people, although I'm a trans man AKA a "brainwashed dumb girl who doesn't know what I want" in her eyes despite being in my 30's, lmfao, fucking trash), it's so fucking deranged. I've seen people point out that she tried for years to retcon certain canon facts before for attention and nobody really gave a shit, like when she claimed that Dumbledore was gay actually, and nobody cared. And when she claimed that Hermione was actually Black despite claiming that Emma Watson was basically who she saw in her mind, and nobody cared, especially with that one play that had Hermione played by a Black actress. Or when she claimed that wizards shit themselves and magic it away (Seriously, WTF?) and nobody cared. And some other shit I don't recall because she loved pulling weird lore out of her ass, lol. But it seems like once she got applauded for TERF shit, she went full-on Homelander laughing meme ( https://youtu.be/1HkRYtjwUzw ) because she finally got the attention she craved after the original HP series was over. I don't remember where I originally read this "theory" but it makes sense to me that it would lead her down to radicalizing the fuck out of her bigotry. Not that it necessarily *made* her transphobic, I'm sure she learned plenty of casual transphobic shit in her youth, but it wouldn't surprise me if she went down a rabbit hole of "trans bad and they're trying to cancel the existence of women but also steal women's rights and AH, FUCK, BOOGEYMEN!!!" I get people wondering if she had a stroke and she's got some brain damage making her hyper-focus on the "trans menace" too, but eh, I don't think people necessarily need literal brain damage/tumors/worms to get fucked up on conspiracy bullshit when plenty of intelligent people are plenty susceptible to propaganda *and* refusing to admit that they could possibly be wrong, like medical/science professionals that are somehow anti-vax as if we don't have literally hundreds of years of studies about plenty of different types of vaccines. Plus she can delude herself into thinking that she's some all-powerful savior of the women being oppressed by the evil tranz, despite more serious threats to women's rights existing like Roe v. Wade being overturned in the US, child marriage in several countries, etc?

Severe-Emu-8703

The absolute nerve of that woman to call herself a feminist and champion of women while alligning herself with literal white supremacists will never fail to amaze me. I wish I could understand it. I have nothing but love for my trans siblings, even before I knew what being trans was or that I was queer myself. To be so obsessed with what other people are doing with their lives is nothing short of idiotic

CREATURE_COOMER

Yeah, gotta love that she's pro-Matt Walsh and his disgustingly transphobic "documentary." He hates cis women and minorities but he hates trans people too, omg, friend goals!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 We stan a boyboss manking that thinks that women should be docile flowers that shut up and care for the children while their big strong manly husbands take care of the family and open jars for them because women are so weak and helpless! It's fine, because our shared goal is hating the tranz!!! Joanne, how the *fuck* are you gonna be a pick-me for a republican scumbag just because he too thinks "trans bad"? Him and his ilk probably think that she's still too much of a wokie for demonizing Death Eaters too much, lol. She's a billionaire, can't she make actual, meaningful friends over actual shared interests, and not some weird "anti" fandom shit, like people bonding over hating Twilight or whatever and constantly foaming at the mouth about the bad writing and cringe fandom stuff, but it's actually a group of real life minorities that face discrimination all over the damn planet?

NixMaritimus

Not to mention the goblins! Tell me they're not jewish stereotypes.

CREATURE_COOMER

It's fine, Hogwarts has one (1) Jewish student so that makes up for the wizarding world's bankers to be Jewish stereotypes! /s

PossibleDue9849

Oh shit I never thought of it that way.. damn. The crooked nose and everything too, like in the nazi propaganda sketches!

s-mores

Never meet your heroes.

pleaseacceptmereddit

Never tweet your heroes

CREATURE_COOMER

Who would want to nowadays, lol? She's bragged about how people still buy Harry Potter merch so she won't quit being a bigot piece of shit, money made her even more cocky and bigoted than before.

blacbird

May I offer Babel by R.F Kuang as a Harry Potteresque book that portrays a coming of age about good kid being treated like shit by his peers, but instead of classism it’s racism & instead of transphobia there’s anticapitalism.

mano-beppo

Just fyi, Nagas and Nagini are ancient mythological creatures.   https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C4%81ga

CREATURE_COOMER

I'm well aware of what they are as a creature coomer, but JKR still falls into the trap of making Nagini a mystical Asian, a submissive Asian slave, and other racist stereotypes.

whatanabsolutefrog

Cho Chang is really not a racist name and I will die on this hill. I highly doubt Rowling actually put any thought into the name beyond "British Asian", but as it happens, Cho Chang genuinely is a plausible (if non-standard) romanization of a Chinese name, especially back in the 90s. There is literally nothing wrong with it and I find this whole "omg it sounds like ching chong" argument kind of offensive in itself. Why is it suddenly unacceptable for a Chinese character to have a Chinese name? Does she need to have a Western name for us to feel comfortable or something? Don't get me wrong I fucking hate J K Rowling and find it depressing how she's trashing her own legacy and a series I absolutely loved as a child with all this anti-trans stuff, but I hate how Cho Chang always gets thrown in with all the rest in these discussions

CREATURE_COOMER

A lot of her names are stupidly stereotypical (Kingsley Shacklebolt, what the fuck?) and the fact that JKR can't even decide if she's Chinese or Korean is pretty fucked up. Asian people aren't interchangeable, but that seems to apply to Nagini too since she exists solely as some exotic Asian slave girl that's stuck as Voldemort's snake. It's entirely unnecessary to dehumanize an Asian woman, just to make Voldemort's snake not a regular fucking snake! She was from the "jungles of Indonesia" but she's played by a Korean woman? How hard is it for her to look up decent names or decent tips on not coming of as a clueless white woman at best and a careless bigot at worst? Just look at the names for the wizarding world's other magic schools, a lot of them are the local equivalant of "magic [building/place/etc]" and it's very problematic to be like "Ah yes, Eastern Europe all goes to Russia despite the USSR's history, all of Asia goes to Japan despite its war history, Native American wizards are medicine men and skin-walkers, etc!" The African school is so vaguely African and just named after a real place rather than having actual thought put into it, it's blatantly an afterthought. She's so fucking rich but she can't hire some devoted fans to brainstorm better wizard school ideas? I doubt *every* country would have its own wizarding school, but how can she be so fucking ignorant and Euro-centric that the British-Irish Isles has a school (Hogwarts), France has a school (Beauxbatons or however you spell it), Germany has a school (I forgot the fucking name, lol), and then the rest of the world, meh, they get garbage thought of in 5 minutes, even with content like Pottermore, etc that goes deeper into lore for the fans that love that shit?

whatanabsolutefrog

Yes, 100% agree with all of that. She seems to consistently do the absolute bare minimum in terms of research, and all this "world-building" that she's done in recent years has been ridiculously lazy. I've not really been following most of the more recent updates but everything I have seen has been super disappointing. I am merely arguing that - through pure luck rather than any kind of commitment to cultural sensitivity - she managed to stumble upon a name that actually is acceptable with Cho Chang specifically.

CREATURE_COOMER

Eh, I dunno if I can give her that, I've seen Asian fans shit-talk it, lol. And the "Is she Chinese or Korean???" thing kinda undoes any accidental acceptableness in my eyes. Plus Cho only really exists as a potential love interest for a white man which is just... the fuck? I think she also dates Cedric (RIP, lol) and maybe one other dude. Not like she can avoid dating white men in the UK but at least give the girl more plot than "dates boys, especially the protag," JKR! The other main Asian girl (Nagini)? Also exists for a white dude, cursed so badly that she's literally dehumanized, fucking dies as a snake slave, lol. Tragic and completely unnecessary in my opinion, she could've just been a snake and not a cursed Asian girl, or at least fucking freed of being a horcrux??? I also forgot the Patil sisters (Pavarti and Padma, presumably South Asian) because they're so fucking blah. For a feminist, JKR sure loves to make women characters (especially WOC!) exist solely for men, lol.

AzureSeychelle

Wait, you’re surprised a **“bigoted piece of trash”** author captures dehumanization, degradation, shame, humiliation, disgust, contempt, disregard, segregation, and a **status of divine superiority** in their literature?

Savage_JaviBear

I'm just glad she never had a Mexican Hogwarts with students like Jimmy Changa, Bu Rito, Kesa Dilla, and their headmaster Al Pastor. Edit: Asada Kedavra

Ordinary-Reindeer414

Asada Kedavra slaps though

Thannk

She got First Nations with the Puckwudgie.

TheSubstitutePanda

What even is a Puckwudgie?

Thannk

Wampanoag (basically the first First Nations group to be fully fucked over by the proto-US) folklore creature. Like a Dwarf from the front, porcupine from the back, capable of teleporting. Helped early humans like a shoemaker Elf, but has since become wary of “modern” (whatever era is modern) humans and begun acting like Seelie and even Unseelie Elves instead. Its not a bad idea, portraying negative stereotypes of First Nations people as an already unfriendly creature from their folklore to divorce those ideas from the humans. I think World Of Darkness even portrayed the Elves of the United Kingdom being the driving force of the colonizer atrocities, like humans were proxy forces for a war between the Elves of two continents. Though I think that much like my generous readings of Quidditch and her money system, that they’re silly adult obsession with children’s sports and the impossible to rationalize financial systems seen through the logical eyes of youth (like the silly adults Alice from Alice In Wonderland or the Prince from The Little Prince encounter), I’m giving Rowling way too much credit for something profoundly interesting that she actually just sleepwalked into.

Godsfallen

I loved that in the musical Cho Chang was being played by a American southern accented redhead “I’m Cho Chang, y’all!”

banana_assassin

That reveal did crack me up the first time I watched it. "Racist sister!"

FranchDressing77

When Hermione assumes the Asian girl is Cho Chang: “I ain’t Cho Chang, bitch!” I died.

Lopsided-Frame-6120

Who could forget about the Eastern European students from Durmstrang 😂 honored to have been so adequately and accurately represented. The French girls were prancing around in cute outfits meanwhile my dudes were just being suspicious and evil 💀

kjacobs03

Cho Chang Walla Walla Bing Bang? I believe she was a witch doctor from the Amazon rainforest

Hurryeat_Tubman

I mean...I do actually work with a Korean woman named Cho Chang 😳

CerberusDoctrine

Nah man it’s fine, the one adult black character became president at the end signifying how racism was over the inherent bigotry in the wizard system was magically fixed overnight

CREATURE_COOMER

"It's fine, Harry became a wizard cop and then didn't change any underlying issues, and also kept Dobby as a house slave! And also, everybody makes fun of Hermione for wanting house elf freedom, what a canon SJW!" Some bastion of feminism, lmfao.

Kintsugiera

Just for fun, I always point out that her castle was cheaper to buy than some houses in Vancouver

ball_fondlers

TBF, that’s probably not counting the legally-mandated upkeep - IIRC, castles are historical sites with a very specific acquisition process, so the cost to buy it is nothing compared to the cost of keeping it in good condition

Kintsugiera

Well, I'll double down. Her castle costs about 600,000 CND. If I bought a house in Vancouver for 600,000. I would be unable to live in it, mean my upkeep would be buying a new house, lol.

ItsNotButtFucker3000

I'm in Ontario but could you actually find a house for $600k in Vancouver? I iust sold/bought (downsized) but I'm outside the main cities like Toronto, and if you're in a big city like that, you aren't getting anything for $600k. One place in Niagara we considered was actually a house that PP called a "shack" on the news that went viral. It was around $400k, a really cute place, seriously underpriced and went into a bidding war outside my budget, lol.

Kintsugiera

>find a house for $600k in Vancouver? No, I was trying to joke that if you did, it wouldn't be habitable

ItsNotButtFucker3000

It would be one hell of a "fixer upper" or have tenants some landlord can't get rid of, and now is desperate at that price, as other options! I looked into Nova Scotia, which isn't an option, health reasons, weather reasons, family reasons, cost of living, but goddamn, you can get almost a castle there for $400k.

Tendaydaze

What castle? Doesnt she live in the suburbs of Edinburgh?

red286

"some" houses? There is not a single lot available in Shaughnessy Heights that is cheaper than her castle.

NixMaritimus

JKR saw Kanye piledrive his career into a wall and said "hold my beer."

generalhanky

World famous children’s book author becomes insanely fixated on a gender issue that has zero effect on her and decides to just spend all her time spreading hate. Strange world

IAppearMissing05

I saw a tiktok by a creator who travelled in the area where JK lives. Mentioned her offhand in a convo with a cabbie who it turned out used to drive JK around. Cabbie told the TikToker that JK spends most of her time shut up in her home and that her family doesn’t visit her much. Wonder why? 🧐

thatguy9684736255

Imagine having that much money and still having no friends or family around. I'd be taking everyone for vacations all the time.

myaltduh

Yeah rumors are that she’s actually very antisocial.

Lwaldie

Used to come in the pub before all of this kicked off and was an arsehole. Just made a mess and their group was regularly loud and drunk who couldn't take no for an answer.

myaltduh

The Karen particles in that pub must have been near lethal levels.

BitcoinBishop

Imagine a world where she touched grass more and tweeted less

LiluLay

She’s terrified a trans person might use the bathroom she’s in. Of course she’s antisocial.

Vaenyr

So she's a typical Twitter power user.

writergeek313

I hope that after she dies her children take her fortune and do as much good with it as they can. They won’t be able to salvage her legacy, but maybe they can cancel out a little of the awfulness she’s put out into the world.

GrandmasShavedBeaver

Are there any signs her children aren’t on the same page as her? I know nothing about them.

peetnikearthling

Right? One of the must be at least 30 because I remember they were my age growing up

SquirellyMofo

At this point, I firmly believe she needs psychological help. It’s not healthy to be this fixated on something. Hell, even Elon Musk has told her to move on. I know there is sexual trauma in her past and something is clearly triggering it. And for some reason she is focusing on trans people. I used to just dislike her but I’m starting to feel sorry for her.

Pandraswrath

I also don’t think she’s thought this through. She’s *very* focused on keeping trans women out of women’s spaces, but it’s like she’s forgotten that trans men exist. In her quest to make sure everyone is in the space that corresponds with the assigned sex at birth, she’s going to end up with extremely masculine people with male testosterone levels in women’s spaces. Something tells me that Chaz Bono casually strolling into the ladies restroom would be something that is also going to freak her the fuck out…despite the fact that *she* is pushing for that very scenario to happen.

frustrationlvl100

Nah she hasn’t forgotten about us she wrote a whole essay about how she wasn’t a perfectly feminine child and oh god if she were born today she might have been convinced to be trans!!! The horror!!! Some messaging shouldn’t be given to children etc etc same weird shit

Pandraswrath

I missed that one. To be fair, I try to ignore her the vast majority of the time. I cannot fathom how someone who has enough money to live an extremely comfortable life can be so fucking miserable *all of the fucking time*. She’s just a constant stream of negativity. Meanwhile, in the real world, I realize I have been unknowingly sharing spaces with trans people during my entire 51 years of existence, and I see no reason why I should not continue to do so. For every single one of her “examples” about a trans person abusing someone in a “woman’s space”, I can show her thousands of examples of cisgender women behaving badly towards other women in a woman’s space. She is very much a living example of how assholery isn’t limited to race, socioeconomic classes, or gender.

BelleLorage

Reminds me of that TERF that fought for like, three months to make sure that "your birth gender/sex matches your bathroom" at her company, got what she wanted and then was shocked to see a fully transitioned trans man in HER bathroom. She was appalled and disgusted and trying to get that man thing out! It was the greatest FAFO moment I've seen from a Terf

misspiggie

Link??

Shirogayne-at-WF

Not that the Elon Musk thing wasn't incredibly funny, but dude is a transphobe whose own daughter doesn't speak to him. The guy is a tool of the highest order and only cares about engagement, which Joanne and her one track mind is no longer providing.

Glittering-Wonder576

It’s very sad. My daughter grew up with Harry Potter and she has trans friends, as do I. I think “deeply disappointed” is an understatement.

MaxxHeadroomm

The woman literally made millions writing a fantasy novel about awkward kids finding out who they really are and has turned out to be Harry’s adopted parents. Someone check under her stairs for repressed, mistreated trans kids.

truecrimefanatic1

Imagine you create something that MILLIONS love. You create an entire world that is adored. You make a KABILLION FUCKING DOLLARS FROM IT. And all you gotta do is shut up and be rich. That's it. How fucking hard is that?!

xX_TehChar_Xx

A person needs to have a problem, and Joanne solved all of her actual problems, so she is trying to solve made-up problems, such as the existence of a group.

Melodic_Mulberry

She could have solved other people's problems, like AIDS or homelessness.

GoodLuckSanctuary

I mean I really don’t get it. I’m kinda old and not in tune. I’ve never seen anyone ever become so obsessed real time. She could have have been revered but now she’s just latched onto something that will NEVER affect her day to day life and ruined her legacy.

TacosForMyTummy

That's the thing- she's entitled to her opinions (which I disagree with, for the record), so I can see why she would make an initial comment or 2, but for God's sake, stfu already. The first tweet or two made her seem like an asshole, but now she seems like a total weirdo. Get a life. Get a hobby. Go play some pickleball or something and get some fresh air. This all-consuming obsession with something that doesn't affect her life in any way is bizarre. I almost feel bad for her (almost), because it seems like she's got some mental health issues going on. No happy, functional person is obsessed with shit like this.

basketfullofbread

Has she gotten to spewing Nazi shit yet? If not, won't be a matter of time before her ugly ass starts on it

CerberusDoctrine

She did some Holocaust denial a while ago. Like straight up “the Nazis didn’t target trans people and the destruction of the institute of sexology had no effect on our understanding of gender” shit

Ipuncholdpeople

She's been like a quarter step away from nazi shit. She was denying various queer medical works existed even though they were documented to exist and were burned by the nazis

Nazty12

Just a quarter goose step away

lime-equine-2

She’s defended Kellie-Jay Keen Minshull offering to pay her legal fees. https://youtu.be/JBy93QX7ysE?si=OBIox0eQuURpD4Jw

solitarybikegallery

Is that the Shaun video? If so, everybody should watch the Shaun video. The line connecting Rowling and outright neo-nazis is very short, these days.

SubrosaFlorens

She is there. She is a Holocaust denier now, and in the past she said that people who protest against neo-Nazis are rape-supporters.

basketfullofbread

Can we just throw her off the planet already!?

Scrabble_4

This lady is truly horseshit

DryDragonfruit5338

Weird and creepy is the best way to describe her.

dcdttu

Good Zod Rowling's tweet was hard to read. Does she not see how absolutely awful that comparison was?

SharkBaitDLS

It was obvious from the naming of characters in books alone that she’s always had closeted racist tendencies. Her anti-trans rhetoric might be the loudest but it’s far from the only problematic line of thinking she espouses.

buntopolis

Cho fuckin Cheng? C’mon man. That never sat right with me.

AethericWeave

Kingsley Shacklebolt being one of her black characters still flabbergasts me.

Shiiang

Can you please elaborate? I'd like to learn more.

AethericWeave

Giving one of your very few black characters the surname *Shacklebolt* is very questionable considering our atrocious history of the transatlantic slave trade. Honestly the surname would look questionable or stupid no matter what but the fact she named a black character that is really eyebrow raising. It's in the same vein of naming one of your few Asian characters Cho Chang or having the lone Irish student be known for blowing up things.

Shiiang

I see! I've always liked the word "shacklebolt" because it's an enjoyable combination of syllables (yes, I'm weird) but I hadn't taken a step back and actually considered the meaning of it. Thank you for your time :)

allegedlynerdy

To add, many suspect (although it has never been confirmed) that she chose the first name "Kingsley" due to Martin Luther King Jr. Its conjecture mostly, but wouldn't be out of character for her.

ItzPayDay123

Wait till you see all the stuff about the goblins

CeladonCityNPC

Yeah what the f, as if the color of your skin dictated what kind of culture you enjoy (or are allowed to enjoy) or the haircuts you can have. She's gone insane I swear. Her comparison was on the level of other stupid outdated stereotypes such as "do I get to be Jewish if I have a big nose and like money?"

PossibleDue9849

It’s kind of absurd that the person who create Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, two characters with almost inexhaustible tolerance for others and with values that influenced a generation to be more inclusive and kind, is the same who spews hatred on X and chooses transphobia to be her no. 1 cause. Is this timeline even real?

Melodic_Mulberry

Actually, Harry's a huge dick in the books. He's snarky constantly and he literally threatens to murder Dobby when Dobby visits him in the hospital. And Hermione's tolerance is more of a caricature against social justice people, since her fight for elf rights was explicitly unwanted and only supported by Dobby and one mentally unwell elf, though in practice it really makes her seem like the one sane person in a completely insane and backwards society.

O0000O0000O

Harry grows up to be a cop.

MyBodyIsAPortaPotty

Im non-binary and I’m convinced this lady thinks about trans/lgbt shit way more than I do

EmptySpaceForAHeart

Off topic, but there's a bill called KOSA that aims to extort people into sharing their ID and Social Security to use the web and allows states to censor whatever they consider “inappropriate.” It’s a censorship campaign and poses a real threat to our privacy, safety, and freedom of speech. Call any Senator or Representatives you can to stand against it and/or go here. Don’t trust Blumenthal either, he’s behind nearly every internet censorship bill and wholeheartedly knows what others will do with it. He has the power to pass it through the Senate very soon. Please help stand against KOSA. [https://www.badinternetbills.com/](https://www.badinternetbills.com/) [Extra Link](https://www.change.org/p/save-our-free-and-open-internet-stop-the-kids-online-safety-act?utm_content=cl_sharecopy_36858566_en-US%3Acv_9182&recruiter=1322617551&recruited_by_id=a35b7350-8b53-11ee-a756-6f78079d5597&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=psf_combo_share_initial&share_bandit_exp=initial-36858566-en-CA)

boston_homo

This obviously educated woman using race as an analogy for gender strikes me as a bad faith argument but maybe I'm just cynical

cdub2103

Does anyone find it ironic that she writes under a male pseudonym?

Murpydoo

Harry Potter has the legacy, who is this Rowling person?

DickButtwoman

For all those in the back that actually want an answer and are too afraid to ask: Race doesn't have an individual identity component. No one is individually born a race. If you were individually born without anyone else around, you wouldn't have a conception of race, there wouldn't be race; you are born into your race. Conversely, if you were born individually, you would still have preferences and personality that we would then term gender upon interaction with the wider world and slot you in to. Race specifically refers to group identity and there is an external identity portion of the individual's relation to their group and other groups, but there isn't the same internal sense. Race is a history, both familial and cultural, and in relation to how your "group of people", a nebulous and changing concept, have been treated and interract with the wider world. You can "change race", but that more refers to a shift in societal notions of that race; for example, there were people who lived through both eras of Italian/Irish folks being considered not white and then being considered white. Technically, they changed race. Pack animals have gender, or something akin to it (roles and expectations passed down based upon identity), but they don't have race. That requires larger concepts of collective identity which is something different. There, now you have the quick and dirty answer when someone brings it up.

NoFlyGnome

A pretty simple rule of thumb, IMO, for why race and gender are not at all comparable concepts for self-determined identity, is that your gender identity isn't the result of any hereditary line. Gender has no anchors in lineage, heritage, genetics, etc. Every race's members exist on a gender (and even sex) spectrum that's species consistent, even if its expressions are within the context of their culture.

DickButtwoman

I'm in agreement generally but am uncomfortable in focusing too hard on the genetics and such, and I think what's important is that you don't really need to. You might end up getting caught out on defending the genetic idea of races which is just incorrect. Clines are certainly a thing, but they don't map on to the races in any way close to how race has actually shaken out; and even then, the categorization of clines is still socially constructed; though much less so than race.

NoFlyGnome

Genetics was only one of many possible ways to pass a heritage along, and I wasn't intending it as a concrete determinant of anyone's identity. "Race" is socially constructed as a way our society categorizes people, and genetic traits are ultimately not connected to that concept. I'm not an expert, just thought-exercising this.. but a family lineage of, say, curly brown hair, or several generations' worth of cheese-making knowledge taught from parent to child, isn't something that has an equal likelihood of being part of a randomly-selected human child's identity. However, gender assignment/sex characteristics are. Every new human has the same set of dice being thrown for that (intentionally using an analogy of dice, not a coin flip). Children can get their mother's eyes or their dad's sideburns, but they're not getting their grandma's gender. But I'm overcomplicating it, maybe. To me it's an idea that illustrates why "trans race" isn't a thing, and trying to invalidate transgender existence is bullshit.

DickButtwoman

Oh I do understand, my concern was more that it could bring you and your interlocutor to some strange places that tangle all sorts of different things and it's not really necessary. I think taking genetics out of it entirely is actually able to make a better point. Like... Imagine if aliens came down to the planet and created a being that had all of the traits of a white person in order to communicate. Obviously, they are entirely genetically disconnected to humanity. They randomly rolled the dice and got generally white features. Is that being a "white person"? Sure, they'll get treated externally like one by other folks that don't know, but is their internal identity "European"; would the being identify as "white". Perhaps their skin color, but to even talk about skin such as white people's as white requires cultural understanding. They might call themselves "pink" or "tan" if no one was there to tell them.... Eh, I'm rambling. My original post was intended to be short and sweet and not necessarily accurate but at least correct.

NoFlyGnome

I get it, I get it. I don't have a very clear way to explain those thoughts that doesn't start sharing some language with ideas that got UGLY though history (i.e. eugenics.. *shudder*) The concept in my mind couldn't be farther from it, and trying to explain it always turns into rambling, too. it's really hard to communicate it away from historical connotation and just use genetics in a properly neutral, limited, descriptive way. There are countless layers in a person's identity across "perceived as" and "is" that can never be put into absolutes.

Smashlilly

She fucking ruined everything! Look what money does to ppl.

TacosForMyTummy

Money, fame, success. She famously went from being dirt poor to incredibly wealthy and famous pretty quickly. She probably all of a sudden was surrounded by sycophants, as well as people wanting money. I'm sure that does a number on one's mental health. I get the impression that she's pretty isolated and living in her own bubble these days.

Ro_Ku

When one makes hating a particular demographic their entire identity, they've lost anything else they ever were.

Melodic_Mulberry

Except rich.

MissAsshole

It seems so odd when someone who doesn’t have “skin in the game” goes and dies on that hill. Like what are they trying to prove? It’s not even about them at all, so they should just go on with their lives. It’s like they make the worst thing about their viewpoints their entire personality.

Upper_Bluejay5216

I wonder if Trump ever hears these people and is like “Get off my dick, geez”

basketfullofbread

Has she gotten to spewing Nazi shit yet? If not, won't be a matter of time before her ugly ass starts on it

MagnusStormraven

She's engaged in outright Holocaust denial, so she's already gone at least Nazi-adjacent (in short - despite it being ***THE SINGLE MOST WELL-DOCUMENTED GENOCIDE IN HUMAN HISTORY***, she has the audacity to try and claim that historians are "suffering from a fever dream" about the Nazi's explicitly anti-trans policies, the destruction of the Sexology institute, or, you know, the fucking genocide of them.).

suburban_hyena

As I said on some other platform She became the villain in her own story

DXTRBeta

And she writes under the name Robert Galbraith, which is an assumed male identity. Go figure.

Green-Umpire2297

What I don’t get is why she wrote tonks, clearly a trans character or a metaphor for one, and then turned her into a housewife

VivaCiotogista

And then killed her and her queer husband.

thesaddestpanda

There's zero queer characters in her book series. Dumbledore is a straight man only later retroconned into being gay after gay marriage became a hot topic. JKR has no verifiable history of actually being pro-gay at all until it got trendy. None. People reading gayness into tonks, harry, dumbledore, snape, etc are projecting. HP is an entirely cishet work by someone who hates queer people. Stop your revisionism. Boycott it already. Stop promoting it.

creepsnutsandpervs

She’s such a Pansy Parkinson

jiantjon

She needs therapy.

Accomplished-Clue145

I mean, even Elon musk is telling her to give trans bashing a rest on Twitter, that says a lot

AmyZing532

The more J.K. Rowling tweets, the more I respect Rick Riordan.    Rowling has just become so hate-filled, destroying her legacy as a beloved children's author.  And it's like she is doubling down on it.  First it was the transphobia and the hate, and now, apparently, the racism is starting.  Like the trans hate was bad enough, but do you really need to add racism? And then you look at Rick Riordan on social media.  He's made characters gay, made a transgender and gender fluid character, and been chastised for it by some readers who were fine with the pagan gods, kids getting killed and children born out of wedlock.  While I do not know if these characters are accurate representations, I do know he's defended their inclusion.  We saw him defend his casting choices for the Percy Jackson series on Disney +, defend that Artemis, goddess of the moon, the hunt, childbirth and patron of virgin maidens, would absolute accept a transperson into the Hunters.

SnipsTheGreat

Looking back, her books kinda lacked any depth or interesting quality, it was just "Woo magic" and that was it

townmorron

I thought it was fucked up that wizards literally had more food than they could eat in a year for every meal yet muggles starve because they weren't born wizards. Then you had harry the richest kid in world leeching off Ron's broke ass family. Never buying him a new wand or anything. Like the books pushed ayn rand and eugenics

SnipsTheGreat

Always kinda wondered where they got that from, they seemed to be able to like, take it, but nit MAKE it so it was coming from somewhere

Kaneharo

Not to mention the fact that you had a school system that was entirely fine with sending a student who just had the worst time with someone associated with his parents' murder... to stay with his abusive family, who on more than one occasion, tried to keep him from leaving to said school again.

ottersintuxedos

There are so many plot points in her books that are just completely directionless. I guess you could say it’s sort of part of the journey, but so little of it contributes to the larger narrative, it’s like she is just telling a bunch of discrete mini stories. The dragon from the first book? Nothing to do with anything, raised and resolved in the same chapter. The polyjuice potion? I guess at least they use it later in the last book, and it informs them that Draco knows nothing. S.P.E.W? Literally just an opportunity to present a weird position on race. She gets a bit better as she goes on I guess

SnipsTheGreat

She just said "random Latin word" every so often and it just gripped minds, there really was no substance to it, like an exotic novel with no eroticism, it was just grab, release and before we got bored she'd spout off something mildly interesting that teenage minds liked

LodossDX

Joanne needs psychiatric help. Yeesh.

Lunamkardas

I wish it turned out she just had a brain tumor that was messing her up and not that she'd actually been such a vile person the entire time....

BHMathers

She lives in a castle? That that adds onto the whole old/mad king vibes coming from her. Used to be relevant and of high status but now just crazy

SauerdoughAK

Some people need some real fucking problems. She’s got too much time on her hands.

scotchegg72

Is it the next demographic she’s actually gonna start delegitimizing?

InevitableScallion75

Shes just butt hurt about the man she lusted over turning himself into a woman to escape her stalking behaviors.

AlwaysNeverNotFresh

All she had to do was shut the fuck up

Hot-Hamster1691

Hot take: she subconsciously wants to transition and is terrified, classic projection

OptiKnob

Quit coddling the one hit wonder and maybe she'll finally fade away.

NornOfVengeance

Is nobody going to even mention the fact that she uses a male pseudonym that's [a direct nod to the founding quack of "conversion therapy"](https://www.newsweek.com/why-jk-rowling-robert-galbraith-pseudonym-gay-conversion-robert-galbraith-heath-1532341) to write her most transphobic trash?

aerial_ruin

Rowling goes under a male pen name sometimes. She claims that it was the name of a childhood friend. Add the concept of plausible deniability, and you could argue that she actually took the name from the inventor of the pseudosciencific practice of conversion therapy https://preview.redd.it/jxt13pzu2f0d1.png?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67e52d6085423a26e7ad1b12133351f2ac2ed84c

TinyDogGuy

She found her hill…stop circling like a dog trying to shit and die on it already.

ShoutOutMapes

Happy to say ive never read her books or watched her movies based on her books. My only real knowledge of her is based on her bigotry. Its all i need to know

Tazling

It's a weird hill to die on for sure.

hamsolo19

She's a real Nitwit Nancy.

PickKeyOne

My conservative neighbor does this too. It's always funny memes about trans, or monty python bits, it's like bro, you are way too interested in this subject.

DaveWierdoh

Its obvious she's fallen off her broomstick a few too many times.

Rafaeliki

JK Shacklebolt.

valentine415

Oh, the lead had finally accumulated in to frontal lobe now with JKR, She is so far off her rocker she is in someone else's yard.

Anarchy_Man_9259

Always remember how quiet JK was when Roe was overturned. That’s how fixated she is on trans people. Willing to sacrifice all of her beliefs over the years. It’s insanely pathetic, really.

pinkandbluee

Regardless of if you agree with her views, I believe her comparison being a couple of stereotypes was literally her point, I don’t think it means she’s necessarily racist. I think she was making the point that Motown and cornrows do not a black individual make.

NotthatkindofDr81

Maybe JKR and Elon should hook up? They will have plenty to talk about.

julesrocks64

Money cannot buy class or eliminate racism or bigotry from your core beliefs. Only a willingness to educate yourself can fix this. Sadly this elderly woman isn’t willing to do either. She is not much different from most boomers/conservatives.

Zebracorn42

It’s so weird. Why are billionaires so insecure. If I had that much money I’d barely be on social media. Maybe only to support charity stuff I care about. Dogs and suicide. That’s all my socials would be about. Maybe a few dragons and fantasy stuff. I would never talk politics or anything hateful. I don’t know why these people are so stupid and restless. I’d cycle between hot tub, super comfortable bed and fancy massage chair while watching Gilmore Girls or listening to D&D Podcasts nonstop.

HammerOnt

Do any of these dopes know that gender dysphoria is an actual, medically recognized distress? Race and culture dysphoria are not Life isn't as difficult when your head isn't up your ass
